P90X... starting a new thread...

I just wanted to know about my diet. I am not going by the diet in the program but rather sticking to the diet that I has helped me get to the point that I am at now. That should be ok , right? The diet won't affect getting results on the program will it?
Your diet has obviously worked great for you, but it may be time to re-evaluate your diet in an attempt to reach your goal. P90X will eventually break down your body if you are not taking in enough calories. Be careful with a large caloric deficit with only a few pounds left to go. Your body will burn whatever it can burn the easiest. At some point that becomes your muscles if you are not taking in enough food for the energy.
I am not trying to be Mr. Negative, I am trying to help you reach your goal in the healthiest way possible. If you continue down your current path you may reach your goal weight, but you will be skinny and very soft. Not necessarily a good thing.
No worries. I just am starting out on P90X so I am very open. I just hope that in the end, the program actually works for me.0 -

are you doing the Classic Program? I am on day three as well :-)0 -
Yeah, we're doing classic, but I'm on day two today, I think I'm one day behind you...We did plyo this morning and it was killer!0

NO doubt! My arms and legs are still sore from the first 2 days but tonight I am pushing onward and going onto dvd 3....
Its fun isnt it?0 -
So I did plyometrics last night. Wow that was tough. I felt sick when I was done, but was super happy I finished it. Tonight I'm doing arms even though my triceps hurt so bad from all the pushups in Chest & Back.
Quick question: I started this program on Feb 24th and I'm going to Vegas for a week on March 10th. So I'll be about 2 weeks in. When I'm back should I start back up where I was or should I start over?
Thanks.
Good job everyone! You are keeping me motivated!0 -

I think you will be say it and wanting more. I am really excited to keep going on this program. I needed this morning to rest up just a bit but I am def into this. I am excited to see Kempo X since I am a Tae Kwon Do instructor.
Thanks for all the help everyone. Def makes this so much easier :-)0 -
Hey everyone... I'm on day 3 of phase 2 with classic... Plyometrics+2hours of volleyball=extremely sore legs!!! When I woke up this morning, I couldn't believe how sore my legs were!!! It is amazing to me how I can feel my muscles being worked in completely different ways compared to the first month-I guess Tony Horton really knows his stuff with the muscle confusion  .
Good job, everyone, on your new starts!!!:drinker:0 -
I am assuming that is grams of each. So your total calories looks pretty low. I don't have all of the details, but you have lost a lot of weight, now that you are thinner you weight loss will be much slower. Also, you will want to have less of a caloric deficit than you previously had to make sure you don't lose muscle. I would shoot for around a 200 for your daily caloric deficit. This would be about 1 pound every two weeks (pounds of fat). You may actually gain some weight if you are adding muscle.
So, just a little caution...what worked for you in the past may not be the best for you in your current condition.
You have had wonderful success and I hope you continue to your goal. If you want it to be as healthy as possible, make sure your caloric deficit isn't too much. Also, you may want to add more protein now to help with muscle growth. A healthy amount is .7 to .9 grams per pound of body weight.
This, of course is just my opinion.
Cheers!
Well said and I totally agree!! Undereating can be just as bad as overeating with this program. I know, I made that mistake my first round. I saw results but it wasn't until I did my 2nd round that I began to eat more and really pay attention to my nutrition like I needed to.0 -
Congrats!!!! What program are you doing? Classic, Lean or Doubles? We're doing Classic. We just got done doing Plyo this morning and it is so nice to have someone to laugh with at yourself!! But I made it! Ready for day 3, I think!!!
Yeah, good for you girl!! I prefer the Classic version myself. I tried Lean but just wanted more weight training and I honestly just don't care much for CardioX (I know! but I'm a runner and it just isn't enough cardio for me! ).0 -
I did shoulders and arms yesterday, had a good burn. Does anyone know how many calories you burn with yoga? I wanted to enter that as my excercise for today, dont have a heart monitor yet, and on exercise log it counts 90 minutes of Hatha yoga as 289 cal. Is this correct? I enoy working out with P90X, staying away from weighing in weekly. Should I weight myself once a week because Im still trying to figure out my correct cal. intake?
173.5X10=1735 RMR
1735X20%=347 Daily Activity Burn
1735+347+600=2682
Im subtracting 500 cal from 2682 because I want to create a deficeit to lose weight.0 -
just a general question..
about how long is DVD # 3 : Shoulders and Arms plus Ab Ripper X?0 -
Hey everyone. I'm new to myfitnesspal, but I'm excited to keep count of my eating better.
I'm actually on the last week of P90X and just started the doubles regimen. I wasn't quite happy w/my eating habits and had to skip a day last week when I was sick w/the flu. I'm also considering extending this phase by 2 weeks. We'll see how I feel after this week. Doubles is intense!! But I love it. I'm glad I decided to add an extra workout. My body really needs it. I'm breastfeeding while doing this, so I need to eat about 3-600 extra calories to maintain the milk supply. So I blame that as to why I still have a large gut, and poor diet. But I'm getting better, and with adding doubles, I feel incredible! I guess my word of advice is keep going!! It doesn't end at 90 days, these are life habits
I'm still trying to figure out how to keep my food recorded on this thing, but I'll get it right. I'll pop in and out every once in a while. I'm a mother of 3 boys and barely find time to excersize, let alone spending time on the internet. Looking forward to some motivation.
BTW- the picture of me is day 1, I'll post my recent pictures soon.

So sorry you don't like Cardio X!! I did it last week and LOVE it! It took me back to highschool X-country training and totally gave me a runner's high!!0 -

S & A is right around an hour and ARX is 16 min. :bigsmile:0 -

I think you burn more with YogaX than hatha yoga. Plus it is 92 min long! I would stick w/ weighing in once a week, I usually do that on Fridays to keep myself on track. If you are setting your goals at MFP that way, then do not add in your exercise cals (you've already added them in).0 -
Thanks JESSMOMOF3 for your help I'll do that, weigh myself once a week and set my goals in MFP.0

JESSMOMOF3 you rock. thanks to you as well as everyone else in this discussion. makes it a lot easier to enjoy something when you know there are people out there who will generally help you and not mock you for what your doing.0

Breastfeeding does take quite a toll on the body, doesn't it? I was either pregnant or breastfeeding for four years, and I was always hungry. I don't know who came up with the 'breastfeeding makes you skinny' idea, but it didn't work that way for me!0 -
Jess,
Another question for you . . .
Have you used P90X+? I have the DVDs and am planning on starting as soon as I'm done with this round of P90X (my 3rd). If you have used it, how do the workouts compare?
Thanks for all of your advice!
Sandy
Yep, I sure have! That's exactly what I did, I think it was round 3 for me? They are different from the regular X, not going for a set number of reps, but timed reps (a minute of bicep curls instead of just going for 8-10, etc). Lots of great varieties of pullups (L-pullups, 7 point pullups), different pushups (spiderman pushups). And if you like Plyo, you'll love Interval+ and there is a Kenpo+ that is a LOT more intense than the original Kenpo. Also an Abs/ Core Plus that uses the bar for some standing/ hanging abs. Anyway... I highly recommend them to someone that has already gone through P90X!! I have some hybrid workouts I can send you if you want!
Now I'm even more excited about starting the series. I'm assuming you did classic over lean? The only thing I miss about the lean when I'm doing classic is the core synergistics workout. I LOVE that one. Yes, please send me your hybrid workouts; I always like new varieties.
Also, what did you do between P90X & X+? I'm thinking Core Synergistics, YogaX, & StretchX for about a week and then starting the +. What do you think?
And, thank you.0 -

No problem! I'm obviously passionate about P90X and happy to help! :bigsmile:0 -

Yep, I did Classic. What I did was kind of switch up the workouts from P90X and the X+. Shoot me a message and I'll send you the hybrid round! You'll still do Core Syn on recovery weeks. I would take a couple weeks off and just do what workouts I felt like... changing things up. Core Syn is a good one, I did running, biking, swimming (since I was tri training). The rest is good for your body and you will be ready to come back strong when you start again!
Workout for me today... 4.5 mile tempo run. (10 weeks to go til my half marathon!)
Ab Ripper X w/ my hubby tonight. :bigsmile:0 -
My hubby paid me a compliment that made me feel like a million bucks!!! He said that he could see a HUGE difference in my legs, and that I have so much more definition in them now. As sore as I am, that was definitely the motivation I needed.:bigsmile:0

First of all, good for you for bf!!! I bf all 3 of my kids also. 300-600 cals is a good idea to keep up your supply. Good job cleaning up the food too, that's when you'll really start to see the results! I also have 3 kiddos (but I have 3 girls!). I find that early mornings work best for me, before anyone else is awake. I have found that tracking here consistently has really paid off for me. I've tracked on & off before, but I really got serious in the new year and have lost those few pesky pounds. :bigsmile:0 -

YEAH!!!! That's the kind of compliments that will keep you going!! Sorry about the sore legs, make sure you're stretching well! I had a nice compliment from a lady at the gym on Tuesday. I was doing my speedwork run (aka, running my tail off! ) and she came up afterward and told me that I had gotten even smaller and she could tell I'd lost weight! Woohoo! (she hadn't seen me in maybe 6 weeks? Different schedules... anyway...)
So... give someone a nice compliment today and make their day brighter! :glasses:0 -
I'm excited and concerned at the same time about this program. Due to health reasons I am restricted to 55g of protein a day.
I did legs/shoulders today and loved it. I'm plotting my plan but going to probably incorporate classic into my marathon training.
Is the exercise too intense for 55g of protein a day? I do not have the option to up that. I was once following a sports nutritionists advice and neither of us realized I have a kidney disease. I was on 110g of protein and it increased the damage to my single kidney. So, as you can see uping the protein in not an option. I'm just curious if this program will be beneficial to me if I can't eat higher protein. Look forward to your responses.0 -
oh boy, just got the shipping number and our DVD's are on their way. I don't think they'll be here this week yet, but maybe monday? I don't thin ups delivers on Sat.
Should we start as soon as we get them, or wait for the next monday?0 -

There are two guides that come with the DVDs -- the Nutrition Plan & the Fitness Guide. Make sure you read them both thoroughly; they have tons of valuable information that you'll need to achieve great results.
For me, I read the books, watched a couple of the workouts so I would know what to expect, and cleaned out the kitchen cupboards. I then knew that I was ready to Bring It.
Good luck on your journey! It's quite a ride!!0 -

Eh, CardioX is the workout I probably burn the least calories on. I make myself do the kenpo, plyo, and core syn sections again just to make it long enough. Might have to sub some TJ or something else for Cardio because it's boring...0
