As many people have suggested, I decided to start with a fresh thread for those wanting to Bring IT daily.

From the original thread- some ground rules before you start. Please, no backlash, as we've already experienced that and have moved on.

Hello everyone,

In an effort to keep myself accountable while on my fitness journey, I would like to start this thread to get to know the community. I have not been posting for a long time, but the information I have seen has compelled me to start my own thread. My goal is to motivate you, and also to receive motivation from others. However, I emphasize that this thread is only for those of us who are serious and dedicated to a lifestyle change, incorporating our fitness program and nutrition program for a healthier, more fulfilling life. Therefore, I would like to invite you to join, but please consider the following ground rules.

-Nutrition: Clean eating only. If you are unfamiliar with this concept, please research it. There is also a thread over in the Nutrition section dedicated to clean eating. I will place emphasis on lean protein, whole grains, non-starchy vegetables, fresh fruits, monounsaturated fats, and whole, fresh food in general. White flour, sugar, processed, packaged, low-carb, low-fat, 100 calorie packs be gone! Log your calories, fat, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and sugar each and every day. Every morsel of food should be recorded in your food diary.

Questions about diet pills? Quick fixes? Easy ways out? Alcohol? Take them somewhere else. If you’re inquiring if these are ok, you already know the answer. Please do not seek validation from us.

-Exercise: Just do it. There are no excuses for not exercising. Your body needs cardiovascular work. Your body needs strength training. Find a program that fits your tastes, goals, and lifestyle, and DO IT! We all have the same 24 hours per day, and if you are truly dedicated, your commitment to a new lifestyle will be reflected and rewarded in how you look and feel. I highly recommend a chest strap heart rate monitor so that you can get the most accurate count on your exercises and record them into your diary. Don’t guess.

- Mental Preparation: This is probably the biggest component of any successful lifestyle change. Now is the time to be serious. Are you ready? Can you give up chips, cakes, cookies, and alcohol throughout your journey? Can you dedicate one hour to exercise each day? Do you have the necessary support? Are you ready to give up toxic friends and those who are holding you down out of their own insecurities? Are you willing to make your goals specific and clear to yourself and those around you? Do you view this as a lifestyle change or a diet? Answer: If you are viewing this as a diet, this is not the place for you. If you slip-up (we all do) will you persevere and get right back to it, or will you view yourself as just another failure? Do you regularly participate in negative self-talk? Are you doing this for yourself or to impress others?

Define why you are here. Do you want to set a healthy example for your children? Do you want to lead by example for an unhealthy family member? Climb that mountain without getting out of breath? Not worry about fitting in the roller coaster ride seat? These are all valid reasons, and you need to keep them front and center to bring you back should you venture too far off the path. This is your mission statement.

Take time out to ponder these questions, and meditate. Yes, meditate. Clear your mind, and see yourself at your goal. How do you feel? How do you look? What are you doing? This mental picture creates an end-goal for you to envision whenever you get discouraged and feel like quitting.

Goal-setting: I encourage everyone here to have a set of long-term goals, broken up into shorter term goals. And by goals, I mean very specific, challenging but achievable goals. If you are brave enough, list your starting statistics, your current statistics, and your goal statistics. Height, pant/dress size, weight, body fat %, right upper arm, left upper arm, waist, hips, chest, neck, right thigh, left thigh, right calf, and left calf. This may seem like a lot of measurements, but sometimes when the scale doesn’t reflect a change, and you know you’ve been following your program to a T, the measurements speak louder than the scale. This will motivate you to continue. Also, align these goals with weekly, monthly, and yearly goals. Keep in mind that even when you reach your goal weight, there are always opportunities to dig deeper, reach higher, and achieve more than you ever thought possible, whether it be in your strength, endurance, or your ability and desire to be a better friend, spouse, or parent.

I have a tendency to be blunt when others are nice and to play the devil’s advocate. I want everyone to succeed, but I want you all to be as unwilling to accept excuses as I am. If your health and fitness is truly a priority, then make it a priority. Of course life will put you in some unsatisfactory situations, but prepare yourself and develop contingency plans should you find yourself in one, and then get right back to it.

Feel free to share your thoughts, motivation, goals, measurements, recipes, and questions here. Surround yourself with others who have similar goals, and you will have a higher chance of success. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or issues, please feel free to post or send me a personal message, and I will make an effort to get back to you as soon as possible.

Finally, no excuses. Just do it!

Thanks everyone!

The following rules have been established to help maintain a civil and friendly environment, allowing everyone to enjoy the discussions found here.

Please read this post completely in order to prevent any potential rules violations.

    FORUM RULES

    1) No advertising or self-promotion. You may not post advertisements for other services, websites, etc. which intend to sell products or services for monetary gain. Any such links will be removed at moderator discretion without warning and could result in your posting privileges being revoked.

    2) Posts intended to promote potentially unsafe or controversial weight loss products or procedures, including non-medically prescribed supplements or MLM products, are considered inappropriate and will be removed without warning. This rule has been created to protect members from multi-level marketing schemes or other hidden sales tactics which are strictly prohibited on this site.

    3) Posts or messages to members promoting websites that compete with MyFitnessPal are also prohibited.

    4) Do not attack/slam/insult other users. The forums are here so that members can help support one another. Attacks or insults against each other takes away from the supportive atmosphere and will not be tolerated. You can discuss the message or topic, but not the messenger - NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are attacked by another user, and you reciprocate, YOU will also be subject to the same consequences. Defending yourself, defending a friend, etc. are NOT excuses. Violations of this rule are taken very seriously and may result in being banned without warning! If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

    5) Topics which are started with the intent to denigrate, belittle, or disparage another MyFitnessPal member, either directly named or through enough descriptive commentary to be possibly identified, are prohibited. Such topics will be instantly deleted and may result in the banning of the original poster. This includes following another poster around in the forums, posting about past events gone sour, divulging personal information, spreading gossip or rumors, posting email exchanges between users, etc. Keep the drama off the forums!

    6) Do not post an email or mail message from any other MyFitnessPal user or moderator on the forums at any time.

    7) No explicit, sexual, offensive, insulting or vulgar content or language. This includes any explicit or "risque" images. The MyFitnessPal forums are rated PG-13.

    8) No derogatory or offensive references to sex, gender, ethnicity, religions, or sexual orientation.

    9) For your safety, do not post personal information such as telephone numbers, emails, mailing addresses, instant messenger ids, etc

    10) Do not post messages that violate federal, state/provincial, or local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or is bound by NDA (non-disclosure agreement)

    11) If you have concerns about another poster or wish to report a rule violation, the ONLY appropriate venue is to use the Report Post feature or to message me. You may NOT air such concerns on the message boards themselves. If you have a general concern that does not involve a specific member, you may post your question in a civil manner in the "Feedback" or "Help" forums.

    12) We reserve the right to disable the posting privileges of any member for any reason at our discretion without warning or notice.

    13) Topics about politics or religion are not allowed and will be deleted. This includes posting images or signatures. Unfortunately, we have seen that topics about either of these subjects are highly likely to result in heated arguments and disputes. If you really wish to discuss either of these topics, please google political forums or religious forums - there are plenty of other places to express your views.

Thanks for your cooperation and I hope you are enjoying the site!

    ______________________________________________________________________________

Everyone, please, please read the above rules carefully, and then read them again. Personal attacks, negative criticism that does not contribute anything constructive, and catty bickering will NOT be tolerated at all and I WILL make an effort to report it IMMEDIATELY if it does happen. Mike will suspend you from the site if you participate, so please save everyone some effort and just don't.

That being said, Bring IT part II!

No problem! Glad we're past the storm and just hanging out, bringing it like we know best!

If you're new to this thread, please post your short and long-term goals, being as specific as possible and with a timeline if you've thought it through (believe us, you should! ). See our old thread for some ideas of what we're doing.

I thought of a few questions to ask today while I was in class (yes, it was that boring!).

    1. When you reach your next short-term goal(s), how are you rewarding yourself?

    2. When you reach your long-term goal, how are you rewarding yourself?

    3. What's something that you've always wanted to do, but been too afraid or incapable of, that you will be able to do when you reach your goal?

    4. Finally, who have you inspired or hope to inspire with your new healthy lifestyle?

    Think about it team!

Oh, and I think I'll start calling everyone HIPOTs. High potential candidates for success, that is:happy:

  • Ok there seem to be alot of questions here, but I think I can do this. I think it might help to motivate me.
    Stats:
    22
    5'1"
    107
    Size:0-3

    Goals:
To be more fit, and healthy ( basically to be more toned)
I love the size I am now as far as clothing, I just want to lose extra stubborn pounds around my tummy and I have to drop my weight to do that. =] I want to lose the extra pounds by May 2009. I have around 5 extra pounds to lose.

Rewards for my Long-term Goals: A Juicy Couture bathing suit =]
When I meet my short term goals, like exercising twice a day, I don't usually reward myself, but maybe I should start doing that as incentive to continue.

I think that's great for a start intro! Good luck everyone! :flowerforyou:

Ok so today I did the fitness test and well I felt like collapsing so I finished but I started the first dvd for the p90x lean just to see if I could do it...well lol banana roller I'm not quite there just yet but my goal is to take the test every 2 weeks until I feel I can pass it and feel good....I did do my usual routine 2hrs so I feel great!! Also had a quick visit with my Doc regarding my weight loss he gave me the go ahead to continue on as I have been so I am happy..I will get my liver function tests back this week...it seems like everyone is doing great today and really motivated......drinker

    Myastyme!

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I've heard other people say the fit test alone is enough of a workout! Don't worry about it though, you'll get there. I still go to my knees for most of the push-up series, but I am definitely getting stronger. Hello biceps and shoulders! I've been doing the pull-ups with bands because I'm not strong enough to do real pull-ups yet, but I believe I'll be purchasing an Iron Gym pull-up bar here very shortly. And though I can't see too much of a difference yet, my pants are getting loose, and I like it! I like how you have a little me jumping up and down on your shoulder yelling "Bring IT!" Whatever gets you going!

Thanks for starting a new thread! And thanks for the post of the TOS.

    1. When you reach your next short-term goal(s), how are you rewarding yourself?

A new pair of running shorts is my next reward!!

    2. When you reach your long-term goal, how are you rewarding yourself?

My reward will be the finish line of my half marathon on May 2nd and hitting my goal time injury free!

    3. What's something that you've always wanted to do, but been too afraid or incapable of, that you will be able to do when you reach your goal?

    No fears here!!

    4. Finally, who have you inspired or hope to inspire with your new healthy lifestyle?

Well, I am told often that I'm inspiring to others. I've lost 70# and completely changed my life since I had my 3rd child. It's been a work in progress for me, but I've found something that works for *me*. My family is the most important to me and now I'm happy to be a good, healthy example to my 3 beautiful daughters and hubby!

    Sweetapplepi!

Nice to see you laying those goals out there. Sounds like you're already pretty fit, but I'm glad to see you reaching for that higher level. 5 pounds by May is definitely doable, though those last few are always the hardest. I will be honest, those last few tummy pounds come from superclean eating, cardio, and iso moves for your definition. Who doesn't love sexy abs? Mine want to peak out, but I still have a ways to go on losing the fat before I see those cuts. Thanks for hopping in here and letting us know what your goals are!

    1. When you reach your next short-term goal(s), how are you rewarding yourself?
I reward myself by fitting into clothes I have stashed away because they were my favorites but I was to heavy to wear.

    2. When you reach your long-term goal, how are you rewarding yourself?
Well Longterm Goal means Jogging I know its sounds like a silly reward but I have always admire those cute jogging ladies so I want to be one. In addition I will be finding me some hunk to go on a cruise with.

    3. What's something that you've always wanted to do, but been too afraid or incapable of, that you will be able to do when you reach your goal?
Be myself without hiding behind a sheild of insecurity ..I just want to be fun have fun and weight has always made me a tad more demure than I would like..In addition I would love to get a sporty red motorcycle and a nice leather suit to wear when riding ...Sexay!!!!

    4. Finally, who have you inspired or hope to inspire with your new healthy lifestyle? I hope to encourage and inspire everyone here at MFP and everyone that is currently in and enters my life.

    1. Rewarding myself with a new pair of sneakers......mine are not so sneaky anymore
    2. Rewarding myself with feeling better, and a new pair of skinny jeans.......
    3. I want to be jogging on the mountain trails.....not huffing and puffing at a slow pace.
    4. I have inspired 2 of my friends to start eating better and 1 to start working out more. I hope that I can inspire another friend to start coming here and paying attention to himself...he is 300+ and not shy of 400 by much at 5'8".....walking is hard on him :(

I guess I should answer my own questions:laugh:

    1. When I reach my short-term goal, I am going to enjoy my spring break with my boyfriend and not feel self-conscious. I might not be going anywhere, but I can't wait for the break!

    2. When I reach my long-term goal, I'll be frolicking around freely in a bikini on the beaches of Oahu in June.

    3. I'm not afraid of much, but when I reach my goals and prove to myself that I can overcome this challenge, I want to start my own business, finding some venture capitalists who believe in my vision and my product, and be my own boss!

    4. I hope to inspire my family to FINALLY get healthy, for themselves, me, and their future family members. I want to be an example for everyone I meet and radiate the picture of a healthy balance of fitness and vitality.

Come on everyone, don't be afraid to share!

    1. Short term goal- new pants
    2. Long term- plastic surgery to remove the excess skin and a new wardrobe
    3. Ride a real bike not stationary- never have ridden one I was always obese and afraid to fall.
    4. The rest of my family and some of my friends/colleagues who have thought like me that we were just stuck in our genes and would always be fat.
  • 3. What's something that you've always wanted to do, but been too afraid or incapable of, that you will be able to do when you reach your goal?
That's an interesting question. I don't think my current weight goals have hindered me from doing certain things. However, I would love to feel more confident in my bathing suit this summer. =] Who wouldn't though

    4. Finally, who have you inspired or hope to inspire with your new healthy lifestyle?

I hope to get my hubby inspired so that we can be a healthier couple. He's a firefighter, and is in great shape already, but I think we could both be just abit healthier. He's plans to buy an elliptical machine this week, so I think I'm already starting to inspire him.

Dave-I'm not sure if I can stick to the level of clean eating that you all are at... I am definitely not eating a bunch of junk, but I am one that is guilty of having a cookie if I've had a really great week and decide that I would really like one:blushing: . I do enjoy reading about everyone's progress, so I hope that you all keep at it!!!

I am personally trying this out and I am not totally clean. And you can have a cookie, just what sort of cookie are you eating? I am striving for clean.....and more so using the Bring it to my advantage on pushing further and having those here to push me. You can still try it out..........ya know ya wanna

I think that it's the post from the very first thread that intimidated me... Not about the "Bring It" philosophy... But the clean eating only; I do eat whole grains, lean proteins, and bunches of fruits and veggies... But there are times when I do want to be able to have a piece of dark chocolate here and there... I would love to try this out, but I also don't want to feel like a failure if I can't meet everyone's ?expectations?

BTW-I've always done much better at the gym with someone who tells me "you WILL do it" rather than "I know you CAN do it"... Maybe that's why I used to work out with guys when I was in the best shape? That's why your thread intrigues me so much:tongue: Either way, you guys will help motivate me, just by reading about your successes and your outlook on physical fitness:drinker:
  • For the most part I eat great during the week, but I do have small cheats here and there. I try to remember this is a LIFESTYLE change, not just a quick diet. Eating a few cookies here and there is ok as long as you don't over indulge. Also, I bake my cookies at home and use low-calorie recipes. That way I satisfy my sweet craving ( or whatever craving I'm having) without completely blowing through alot of calories.
I shop at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods too for healthy alternatives for great snacks.

Also here are a few smoothie recipes that I found, hope it's ok to post them here...

Green Tea Smoothie Recipe – One

1 large peach, fresh, pitted, and sliced or cubed or ¾ cup canned peaches, drained
    1/2 banana, sliced
    1 ½ tablespoons honey
1 cup of brewed green tea, chilled
1/2 to 3/4 cup ice cubes

Brew the green tea and then chill for 45 to 60 mutes. In a blender, mix all the ingredients until creamy and smooth. If you like, this green tea smoothie can be decorated with a fresh peach slice.

Green Tea Smoothie Recipe – Two

    1 cup milk
1/2 cup low-fat vanilla or vanilla bean ice cream
2 ½ tablespoons smooth peanut butter
    1 banana, frozen and cubed

In a blender, add all the ingredients, blending until smooth.

Green Tea Smoothie Recipe – Three

1 1/2 cups cantaloupe or honeydew, diced
1/2 cup lemon or vanilla yogurt
    1 cup green grapes, frozen
    1 tablespoon fresh mint, minced
    Lemon juice, fresh

In a blender, add all the ingredients, blending until creamy. If you prefer a tarter flavor, add additional lemon juice.

That's why your thread intrigues me so much? Either way, you guys will help motivate me, just by reading about your successes and your outlook on physical fitness:drinker:

Glad to have ya popping in ...its all about sharing ideas and insight ......we are a pretty relaxed bunch ...Sassie likes her cookies but I just take them away and pass her fruit...she still sneaks them though...lol

Well, it's good to know that you all won't send an angry mob after me if I do eat a cookie:laugh: , and I know from other posts on different threads that you all are a great bunch of people... I will definitely keep on "peeking" at your thread, because I love hearing about everyone's progress!!!

I know I'm not part of your group, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has let you know that you can get "Bring It" gear from Beach Body? I know that there were some P90Xers on this thread...

Hey girl! Yep, I mentioned it. I have the black P90X t-shirt that says BRING IT! on the back! My hubby has one and I bought my brother (who also does P90X) the tank top for his bday!

As for the clean eating/ cookie thing. I eat as clean as I can. I have tried a LOT of things in the last 5 years of my weight loss journey and for me, limiting the white flour and sugar is what works for me. I call it my white *crack*. Once I start eating it, it triggers more cravings and I just want to eat MORE!!!!!!! I know my trigger foods, so I just stay away from them. I can eat a piece of dark chocolate and that satisfies my craving.

I try to balance the tough love with encouragement. Some people respond well to bossiness... other people need a pat on the back. For me, balance in every part of life... is key. Peace!
