No problem!!! I know that there's been a lot of backlash at this thread, but I do understand what you all are trying to accomplish here... And I say kudos to you all for trying to stick it out through the storm!!!

Thanks for the flyby MissResa. We aren't trying to stick it out anymore, we just ARE! Bring IT!

I know I'm not part of your group, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has let you know that you can get "Bring It" gear from Beach Body? I know that there were some P90Xers on this thread...

Hey girl! Yep, I mentioned it. I have the black P90X t-shirt that says BRING IT! on the back! My hubby has one and I bought my brother (who also does P90X) the tank top for his bday!

As for the clean eating/ cookie thing. I eat as clean as I can. I have tried a LOT of things in the last 5 years of my weight loss journey and for me, limiting the white flour and sugar is what works for me. I call it my white *crack*. Once I start eating it, it triggers more cravings and I just want to eat MORE!!!!!!! I know my trigger foods, so I just stay away from them. I can eat a piece of dark chocolate and that satisfies my craving.

I try to balance the tough love with encouragement. Some people respond well to bossiness... other people need a pat on the back. For me, balance in every part of life... is key. Peace!

    Jess
You just made a lightbulb go off in my head..I had cut my pasta ,rice ,bread basically all white flour back in Jan 1 ....and I havent been tempted to eat anything bad like I normally would ....hmm I wonder if that helped me stick with it this time...

I think that it's the post from the very first thread that intimidated me... Not about the "Bring It" philosophy... But the clean eating only; I do eat whole grains, lean proteins, and bunches of fruits and veggies... But there are times when I do want to be able to have a piece of dark chocolate here and there... I would love to try this out, but I also don't want to feel like a failure if I can't meet everyone's ?expectations?

BTW-I've always done much better at the gym with someone who tells me "you WILL do it" rather than "I know you CAN do it"... Maybe that's why I used to work out with guys when I was in the best shape? That's why your thread intrigues me so much? Either way, you guys will help motivate me, just by reading about your successes and your outlook on physical fitness:drinker:

Glad to have ya popping in ...its all about sharing ideas and insight ......we are a pretty relaxed bunch ...Sassie likes her cookies but I just take them away and pass her fruit...she still sneaks them though...lol

I do NOT you fibber!!!! LOL I will eat your fruit though.....have any yummy peaches in that cute fruit you cutie patootie :P

Did my workout today and did I ever BRING IT!!
I worked out my chest, shoulders, triceps and abs for an hour and 13 minutes. No time for cardio today so tomorrow I'll wake up, jump on the elliptical (NO EXCUSES! I hate mornings but gotta do that to fit it in tomorrow) then do yoga later in the day.

    1. When you reach your next short-term goal(s), how are you rewarding yourself?
I bought myself a candle holder I had wanted for a long time after I lost 40lbs. (It was $60, not what I would usually allow myself to spend on something unnecessary). I've bought myself a PS3 game as a reward before as well.

    2. When you reach your long-term goal, how are you rewarding yourself?
A custom made corset from one of the best corsetmakers.

    3. What's something that you've always wanted to do, but been too afraid or incapable of, that you will be able to do when you reach your goal?
    Run 10k.

    4. Finally, who have you inspired or hope to inspire with your new healthy lifestyle?
My daughter, she's 12 and just wants to eat poptarts and ketchup.

    QUOTE:

    Hey everyone,

I just want to remind everyone that we are not here to bicker about what's right and wrong. We know that this path is what's right for US, so we will continue to be forward looking and results-oriented, while maintaining balanced, fulfilling lifestyles, whether that includes cookies and tootsie rolls or not.

That being said, I really don't know why someone would drop in just to taunt us and promote our failure. Seems like a waste of time.

Anyway, as we said before, we'll do our best, forget the rest, and pay no attention to negative posts. It's funny how fitchick99's account is mysteriously deactivated already...

    M

I want to make it clear that I didn't post on here to bicker, nor do I have a problem with your path. I think everyone is different and we all need to find what works for us. MY problem wasn't your path, but that it seemed like you were saying that those of us who do not follow your path are losers. Just because our way isn't your way, doesn't make it wrong or not successful.

I didn't workout today because I was crying most of the day because my grandfather, who raised me is dying. Is that an excuse? Would I be slammed because of it? I think a combination of the tough love path, plus loving support is best for me, personally.

I am really happy you found a path that works for you, I just wish you could be more accepting of others. I also hope your dad gets better. Lifestyles are hard to change and hopefully you can lead my example.

Question: What is your fitness plan?

    Hi candycaneps,

I never said that people who didn't choose this path were losers. However, to follow this path, it DOES take an extreme amount of dedication and commitment. Not that other paths don't, but clean eating requires a lot of preparation and creative thinking, seeing opportunities where others may see obstacles. That being said, I see nothing inherently wrong with WeightWatchers, calorie counting, etc. However, those paths CAN be easier to start up than clean eating. Clean eating is not necessarily difficult once you get in your rhythm though.

As far as whether or not a plan is successful, I DO have an issue with that. You need to more clearly define what "successful" means to you. To many on MFP, it seems that success is just dropping those pounds, using whatever method is easiest or fastest, not necessarily the healthiest. I DO NOT support diet pills, crash diets, starvation, etc, and most, if not all of us, realize that these are unhealthy methods. However, when I check the boards, I STILL see questions about the best diet pills, 900 calories a day, or whatever diet fad is in. To me, success is not necessarily just the pounds dropped. I suppose I feel that losing weight is more of a side effect of committing and DOING what it takes to make a lifestyle change. Diet pills ARE NOT a lifestyle change.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. We are people too, and realize that it is a tough time. Nobody here will SLAM you because you didn't work out today. As personal attacks, insults, and slamming are against the forum rules anyway, I'd like to believe that all of the members of Team No Excuses have more pride and self-respect than to embarrass themselves with a derogatory comment about anyone. What we do hope is that you see an opportunity to live a lifestyle that is long, fulfilling, and that would make your grandfather proud, and for us, eating clean and taking care of our physical and mental selves is how we choose to approach this.

I am accepting of others, whatever path they choose, as I realize it is not my job to force this plan on anyone. And I don't. But I don't want to see people tiptoe around their health and look for as many ways to cheat, when in reality it takes less effort to just do it right. Here, we're not tiptoeing, we're just diving right in! Feel free to chime in if you want.

That being said, I'm still sure we have a lot of lurkers out there checking up on us. We need to make ourselves proud and do what we know how to do. Bring IT! Even if you aren't at the level I've proposed yet, I KNOW that you can still take something positive from this thread, as there are many people who are dedicated, passionate, and full of great information.

    Candycaneps,

Ooops. Forgot to mention the fitness plan.

I'm a P90X-er and Beachbody addict for life. These people have been doing it for years and doing it right. Inspiring, tough, and will take you to where you never thought you could go. I also love TurboJam and Power 90. Well, just all of the Beachbody products.

I do want to remind everyone that this isn't exclusively a P90X/Beachbody thread, as we support whatever fitness program works for you. P90X just reminds us to Bring It everyday, and bring it hard. Once it warms up outside, I am going to commit myself to jogging, as it's something I've never been great at and has always intimidated me a bit. Like Jessmomof3, I hope that someday I can compete in some sort of race, like a 10K or half-marathon.

    Everyone,

Great recipes, great thoughts, and tough lovin' support! I don't have as much time to post during the week but I will probably find myself sneaking in more than I should:laugh:

One final thing for you to ponder tonight.

For many of us, we've all wanted to lose weight, get in shape, get fit, etc for a long time before we actually do. So I ask you this.

What event, moment, or person in your life made you realize that this is YOUR time to do it, do it right, and do it for life? What made it finally CLICK for you? And how have you thanked that inspiration for helping you take charge of your life?

    Good night everyone!

Night M~For me it was a few things, going to job interviews and realizing I no longer fit in any of the clothes that have put me in debt, seeing my overweight diabetic elderly grandfather and having him tell me to get moving now not later, and promising him I would be 10 pounds lighter next time he see's me, realizing that I am going to be 36 years old and just found the man of my dreams and worrying about getting pregnant with time ticking away and weight being a factor, worrying that I won't be all the mom I can be and all the wife I can be, being tired of the aches and pains (that have gone away completley with exercise) and dying young in this body because I just wouldn't do something now......

I am sure there is more inspiration, my immediate is to pass Mya next week so she is trippin on my fruit :P

    To answer M's question:

This time was different for me because of a book. I checked out the 3 hour diet by Jorge Cruise and saw there was a cookbook and an exercise book for "Real Women Real Sizes" well the workouts sucked they were things like hold the table palms up for 1 min then push on the table palms down for 1 min and I was already way beyond that, but that wasn't the part of the book that made the difference. The first section takes you through a soul search and you answer questions and dig deep into why you are the way you are and why you failed in the past. I had a pretty tough time getting through the process and suddenly I came to some revelations that I had never realized about myself. Like I cannot imagine myself thin at all since I have been heavy my whole life. I was 150 at age 5 and 274 in 3rd grade and over 350 by 8th and over 400 by high school and then 535 at my heaviest. I have no thin pics of me. I really did not believe I could do it and thought I was trapped by my fat genes. So I found in myself that by going through it I was doubting not only myself but the God that I profess to trust and love with all my heart, soul, and mind. I knew He wouldn't do this to me and give me this test and not give me a way to work my way out of it. So I woke up that day and started loving me and believing in me and decided I was worth it. Now I just have to keep it up.:flowerforyou: Not sure who to thank for that revelation I guess Jorge Cruise had something to do with it but I thanked God for it.:flowerforyou:

Oh my goodness! You folks are really way beyond me. But I completely agree with your philosophy & I'm working on staying clean.
I don't know what the turnaround was for me this time - maybe a good friend going through cancer surgery.
I haven't let my weight hold me back for many years - I just regret that I was so afraid people would laugh at me when I was younger so I didn't try a lot of physical things. Now I do anything I want & if people are nauseated they should turn away.:embarassed:
I'm working toward a dream month long vacation in June. I want to be able to wear lots of clothes I love that haven't fit for a while & have the energy to do everything that comes my way!

I think I am in the "enjoy a kick in the bottom" approach to motivation, so hopefully I can join you all in Team No Excuses.

I think that excuses are when I fall down and I do so much better with the doing it all approach. For me, a small bag of chippies leads gradually to a big bag so I need to avoid the small bag. I know I've read others elsewhere on the board saying how that cheating is ok now and again, but I nearly took that and went out and splurged. It took my lovely husband to remind me (I had asked him to) and make me step back. I guess this is the motivation I need - someone patting me on the back when I've made a miss-step is not going to work. So please feel free to kick me in the bottom!
What event, moment, or person in your life made you realize that this is YOUR time to do it, do it right, and do it for life? What made it finally CLICK for you? And how have you thanked that inspiration for helping you take charge of your life?

I had a bit of a rough time last year. When my third child was 10 weeks old I went in for a quick specialists Thyroid check post pregnancy as I had a lump found after my second child. 90% of these are nothing and so it was just a routine check and I was expecting a pat on the back see you later visit. I didn't get this. I had noticed a lump in my lymph node in my neck and my specialist immediately looked very serious and told me she was almost certain I had cancer. Not what I was expecting. So the next couple of months were busy with many tests, biopsies, scans and other appointments - with everyone telling me that they were almost certain I had cancer. Not full of optimism the medical profession. Finally, after a series of inconclusive test results they decided to remove my thyroid and lymph nodes. Anyway, turns out I am an extremely rare good news case :-) No cancer, despite all the symptoms and their certainty. So I am fine. But I had a very close look at the world of the very sick and I realised that I needed to put me and my health first for my family. So this was what made it finally CLICK for me.

I can't remember the other questions properly, so here goes:

My short term goal : To run 5K. To get here I am doing the Couch 2 5K program (up to week 3). I don't have a reward thought out. I believe the thrill of the achievement will be enough initially. It's a big deal to me.

My long term goal : Weightloss plus fitness. I want to be fit fit fit. Weightloss will come hand in hand with that, but I am working hard to get fit too. Again no reward thought out, although new clothes will be joyfully purchased!

Nutrition - I don't know all the clean eating rules, but I suspect on the whole I do this most of the time. I almost always cook from scratch and I have always eaten whole grain breads etc. I do have rice and pasta on occasion though. I don't eat biscuits (cookies) or chippies any more!

Exercise - I am working out 6 days a week and I almost always BRING IT. I use my HR monitor to make sure I keep working hard. Mostly I try and keep my HR above 80% as fitness is another of my goals. It may sound strange, but it's been watching some Biggest Loser episodes that has really pushed my attitude to just doing it. I ran in the rain - I just remembered how hard those people work and knew that I could do it too.

Goal-setting - I guess I could do better with this. My goals so far are 1) Weightloss 2) Running 5K 3) Getting above average fitness on a fitness test.

uh oh....I have to admit to breezing over this in the beginning...............and I have been saying *kitten*.......see I did it again. Ok, I am gonna work on that.

M - Thanks for puttin this new thread together for us........I am excited to see everyone over here..Bringin It !

    :flowerforyou:

No problem! Glad we're past the storm and just hanging out, bringing it like we know best!

If you're new to this thread, please post your short and long-term goals, being as specific as possible and with a timeline if you've thought it through (believe us, you should! ). See our old thread for some ideas of what we're doing.

I thought of a few questions to ask today while I was in class (yes, it was that boring!).

    1. When you reach your next short-term goal(s), how are you rewarding yourself?

    2. When you reach your long-term goal, how are you rewarding yourself?

    3. What's something that you've always wanted to do, but been too afraid or incapable of, that you will be able to do when you reach your goal?

    4. Finally, who have you inspired or hope to inspire with your new healthy lifestyle?

    Think about it team!

Oh, and I think I'll start calling everyone HIPOTs. High potential candidates for success, that is:happy:

    M

1.When I reach my short term goal- 10 lbs by may- I will reward my self by just being happy and setting another goal!
2.My long term goal is to be in my weight range for my height - around 165- i will reward myself by getting new clothes
3.I would get a new swim suit..and hopefully look good in it!
4.I'm not sure but i plan to in the future!

I'd like to join. I'm not too sure yet as to any goals, I don't want to lose weight or tone, i'm where i'd like to be as far as spriritual and physical. I would however like to learn new ways to perhaps shake up my workouts or my diet plans. I have to admit my meal planning could use some work. I would like to one day be able to eat "clean" but at this point with a family, it creates a little difficulty. So I guess my "bring it" would be to eat better, incorporate healthier food choices, and I think I would like to learn more plyometrics to include in my workouts. Maybe others can send ideas my way :drinker:

    My stats
    5'3
    107 lbs
I guess my goals are to restructure my family's diet and add new fitness exercises. Well look at that, I went from not sure of any goals, to naming two! hot dang!

If I can get my family to eat clean, I will reward them with a holiday..we all need it.

Hello everyone. I'm bummed today. I've been steadily "bringing it" but this morning I weighed myself (try to do a weekly weigh-in) and I have *gained* weight. I'm frustrated because for the first time ever I feel so good and healthy and positive about my looks, my health, everything... I just figured my weight would fall into place. But somehow I've gained almost 5 pounds and it makes no sense!! I've been sticking to 1200 net calories per day, although once in a while I go over calories one day and so will stay under calories the next day or two to catch back up. I have been eating mainly whole, healthy foods. I have been working out every single day, doing Jillian Michaels' Making the Cut workout plan, I'm on day 24 of 30.

I am trying really hard not to be discouraged because I *do* love the way I feel... I just thought it would result in weight loss, not weight gain. I could have been eating burgers and fries and had the same results! :noway: But the funny thing is, I don't even want to... I'm glad I've been eating healthy. But I just figured it would have some pay-off on the scale too.

    I know your pain...HA
I have quit using the scale and rely only on how I FEEL and how I look. Vain? I don't know maybe but with clean eating and burning up the workouts, any kind of workouts, good things are happening. Weight fluctuations could very well be one of the major triggers to slacking off or worse, quitting your regimen. You certainly don't seem ready for something so drastic as slacking or quitting but I would suggest skipping the scale for awhile. It is only a number after all. How we feel and really getting in touch with our bodies seems more important than what we weigh.
burn a few hundred cals and you will no longer be "bummed"

Thanks Dave. I told myself that... that I'm not going to let myself give up because of a number on the scale (even though it was a shockingly big number compared to what I was expecting! :noway:) I will go by how I feel. Still... a triumph on the scale would have been nice motivation.

    Hey there!

First off, I encourage you to go back and read through our previous thread, as you'll pick up some great information about what we've talked about. Feel free to bring it up again though if you are questioning something.

Clean eating can be done with a family, and children can learn to like healthy foods, whether people believe that or not. It's giving in to all their wants and whims that trains them to reach for unhealthy foods when they're older (believe me, I have an 11 year old sister and 14 year old brother who'd like to sit around and eat junk all day because my parents let them). It does require some planning, but over time, you'll think nothing of it and it'll become much easier.

Did someone say PLYOMETRICS? I'm thinking P90X! Plyometrics X, the mother of all X workouts! If that doesn't work you out, I don't know what will:wink: Thanks for joining in here!
