Nudity - and your children

So, yesterday this was touched on, but I didn't really follow the thread... I know it's controversial, and that's not my intention in posting this, but I do want opinions on your children seeing you naked. Last night it came up at a gathering with friends and one guy essentially thought it was appalling that my son still sees my boobies.

My story: I'm a single mom of a five year old. I do not lock doors when I'm in the bathroom, changing, etc. I close the door slightly and do my business, but I want to be able to hear him at all times. If he flings the door open with some superhero he wants me to assemble, well, he's going to see boobs.

I personally just don't think nudity should be so taboo, but, i don't want to traumatize my kid with the sight of my knockers *LOL*

What's your take on it? Keep in mind the single scenario and if there's not another parent available to keep an eye on things when you shower...

Your kid, your home, your rules.

Personally I think it's good for kids in a way. Teaches them that it's normal and not to be ashamed of their bodies. I think people that go too far the other way are saddling their kids with some crazy hang ups and emotional issues. But to each their own.

Nope nothing wrong with that and as they get older you will see how they ask or start to stare and then you will know to cover up.

Oh wait I forgot....can I see your boobs? Then I can give a good judgment if they will scare him. Medical opinion you know.

on the same subject , sort of, how about going out for a meal at the local pub today and a woman was breastfeeding her baby while we ate, surely she could have sat in a corner, but no, right in the middle of everyone, even my wife said she could have made an effort to protect herself from all the ogling young men

Growing up, the bathroom was always super busy in the morning, since we all had to get ready for work and school at the same time. I saw stuff. We all saw stuff. Nobody really cared. I'm not traumatized. I'm almost 20 now, and when I'm home for breaks like I am now, it's still like that. We have a house rule that only family is allowed upstairs, so mom's been known to just walk around naked while she gets ready for her day.

I honestly don't think their is anything wrong with that. Maybe when he becomes more mature... 12yrs or older that might be a little weird you know but honestly the world is perverse now a days. Things that were once so innocent aren't because ppl have sick twisted minds. Like you can't have pictures of your baby in the tub due to child pornography? This was so common when I was a baby my mom has tons of these pictures. I never thought my mom was weird for having naked bubble bath pictures of me at age 2 and 3 now if I was 13-14 okay THAT WOULD BE BAD!! but no... My son is 4 and sometimes sees me naked. I try to not let him not because I find it wrong or apalling but because I don't wanna scar the poor kid. but in all honesty young kids under 12 yrs don't know or wouldn't know the difference...

to me, at 5, not weird at all. at 12, yeah, thats different.

My son is 2 and a half, and i am starting to teach him about privacy. I am in the bathroom when he bathes and uses the bathroom, but trying to teach him that he doesnt need to be in the room while I do! :) He giggles if he sees me topless changing though. I just tell him its not good manners to laugh at mommies boobies. Please go play. And he does.

I have never locked my door.....my son is 13 now so I'm thinking it's time..........but he's a very young 13 year old.........at 5 - he saw it ALL!!! My daughter is a girl so it's free range with her. Although not vice-versa - I haven't seen her naked in years. Well my son either......but we were talking about them seeing us right???!!!

With my daughter, I don't really care what she sees because she'll eventually have it all, too.

With my son, though, I don't necessarily try to avoid him seeing at all costs, but I at least try to be covered up when he's around. Although, he is the WORST when it comes to barging into my room at the exact moment I'm completely naked. Never fails.

I don't really care either way, though. They're both still relatively young (DS - 5, DD - 7) so I don't think they'll be traumatized.

Society has made the human body such a nasty thing. How dare you show your body to anybody! Especially children. Who probably care the least because society hasn't had the opportunity to teach them how wrong it is yet.

I have a 6 year old girl and I do tell her that it isnt appropriate for her to just barge in to a room without announcing your presence, but it is more to teach her limits and to make sure she doesnt barge in while the boyfriend is changing clothes. But if I am nekkid and she knocks I will let her come in. She is gonna have the same parts I have, and I dont want her to think that the body is something gross that one needs to be ashamed of.

single mom with (almost) 5y.o. daughter...sometimes she still takes showers with me. Most the time doors aren't closed all the way for the same reasons you stated.

My best friend and I use to talk to her mom when she'd take baths and she'd just cover herself with a towel and we never thought twice about it.
Rare times I take a bath, my daughter is usually playing with barbies in the bathroom talking to me.

I think it's harmless up until a certain age...being that I have a girl, she'll prolly always see her mom half naked hahaha

I'm a single parent as well. I have 2 daughters but it's the same concept. My youngest was ALWAYS into stuff when I went in the bathroom or turned my head. I see nothing wrong with it. Now if he was a teenager, maybe but he's 5!! Don't feel bad and don't let someone else's opinion change how you run YOUR household.

Sorry as guy and I am being serious I see nothing wrong in that and I say that because my daughter-in-law breast feeds and covers up so as to not bother anybody and I think it's normal.....I think you are going to get slammed by this comment...sorry.
