It's almost half way through my 4 week work hitch and all my work gear is definitely roomier, which is unusual as the laundries normally manage to shrink everything! Keeping up with my logging and exercise bike sessions and slightly under my calories allowance, so allowing for the errors in my food selection from the database, I think I am ok.
Now time to start the next challenge, today I will start a c25k programme on the treadmill to alternate with my bike sessions and couple that with some body weight exercise to give me a bit of strength training. Still managing over 10k steps on my Fitbit most days and the temperatures here are starting to rise so even walking around the site now is a sweaty soft sand workout.

Good to see everyone is hopefully getting out of winter mode now and can start some outdoor life again.

Loved the ice cave pics... just a bit too cold for me.. I'm a heat lover

LOVE the ice cave pics! My husband and I are cave explorers (hence my nickname..lol) Best workouts I ever get are hiking mountain ridges searching for caves to explore...unfortunately we only get to do that during the warmer months. Hoping to do a caving weekend in May. :)
    Have a fab weekend everyone!

Happy Saturday everyone. I'm new here, so a bit about me...

I'm Tanya, 40 yo, live near Hamilton ON. I'm a mail carrier for Canada Post, I drive around my route, but hop in and out of the car and walk to mail sites and houses/businesses upwards of 70 times a day, so my job is quite active. I have a 22 yo daughter who is currently in first year college. She is taking pre-health right now in hopes of becoming a paramedic. I have a BF of almost 4 years who lives about an hour away, so we only see each other once a week or so.

I've struggled with my weight most of my adult life. I overeat, eat junk food and am an emotional/compulsive eater/binger. That's just about everything isn't it? I've lost 10, 15, 20 lbs a few times only to gain it back and then some. My lowest point (and highest weight of 251) came last January. I have chronic back pain from a work injury 10 yrs ago that flares up every so often. I have plantar faschiitis off and on since my early 20's from sports. Last year, I started getting hip and knee pain along with the chronic pains and PhysioMed staffers came to our office to show us the programs they had to help with our health. I got my blood pressure checked and it was through the roof. I felt rotten, sore and tired all the time, and had bad headaches all the time. I signed up at PhysioMed. It was the best thing I ever did.

Now one year later, I am 27 lbs lighter, my hip pain and plantar faschiitis are gone, my back pain is in control, headaches are gone. I took tons of Advil and other antiinflammatories and muscle relaxants before, I don't take any now. I've see a physiotherapist, chiropractor, foot specialist to help with the chronic injuries. I do active sessions (exercise) with a kinesiologist 2-3 times per week for core exercises and cardio/strength training. I also hike and bike in the warmer months and have added yoga, HIIT/strength training DVD's and a rowing machine to my workouts away from physio.

I started MFP in January to keep my eating on track. I did well last year, but could have done better counting all my calories. I found it easy to switch to healthy foods and cook my own meals, but do enjoy fast food once in a while still. I also cut my addictive diet Pepsi intake from 5-6 cans a day to only one. I'm hoping to cut down to only one or 2 cans per week, but I'm still using it as a stress crutch at work. Once here, I found EM2WL group, and that is the program I'm following with great success. I currently eat 2322 calories per day and am losing about 1 lb per week.

My highest weight was last year: 251 lb
    My current weight: 223.6 lb
My ultimate goal weight is somewhere between 150-170 lbs, which I will assess as I get closer.

Active thread!!! Welcome to all the new members!!! :drinker: :drinker:

Tanya, congrats on your weightloss and all the changes you have been able to make!!! Keep it up!!!

I went to Bikram yesterday in the afternoon. I prefer going in the morning but I had a great session. I meant to fast yesterday but felt dizzy around midmorning so decided to eat some. I still feel yesterday was a low calorie day. My lifting workout this morning was excellent!!! I change it up next week. I bottled my very first batch of homemade Kombucha. It tastes good but not as fizzy as I like it to be and taste too sweet. That might be due to this very low/almost none sugar diet I am on for a week now.

BTW, beautiful pics of the ice caves!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!!! :drinker: :flowerforyou:

Happy Saturday afternoon. Windy and rainy here today. Hubs and I went to the gym this morning. It was cardio day- 35 minutes split between treadmill, stair mill, bike and elliptical. Followed by crunches, planks-regular and right and left sided, sit ups and a few other core exercises. I then rounded off my time at the gym with some time in thd pool with the Hubs and some friends. A great time, but now I am all congested and feel a cold coming on. Ugh! Did manage to make it to the Mennonite market for some produce. Just hanging at the house for the remainder of the day. Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday.

    Hi All,

Sounds like everyone had a busy weekend.
    Welcome newcomers!!

Bitter cold here this weekend, but my husband and I did manage to go out to the ice caves again on Saturday. They are just phenomenal. It was like a highway out there, so many people are taking advantage of the frozen waters and easy walking to get to them, even though it is usually very windy and cold.

Sunday, did my long run....on the treadmill. Man, that was tough! First half was easy, last 7 miles, not so much. No cardio today - just strength training,

    Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Hi All, Happy St Patty's Day to Everyone. Gloomy weather here today and had some snow this morning. So much for our splash of Spring we had last week.

Made some Wild Sockeye Salmon and Scallops for dinner Saturday night, it was really Yummie & we had a movie night. I love to cook good food!

I started back on weight training yesterday and it really hurt. I am glad to be back at it. Tomorrow morning I will be back on the 5:30 am work out schedule, not so sure about that yet!:noway: I did do down 1 pant size so I will keep thinking about that when I am trying to crawl out of bed!!

weight-training is where it is AT for size reduction FO' SURE!

I am trying to figure out if I should try and go to the gym M through F, instead of just M/W/F. Adding in "more cardio" does NOT seem to enthuse me, at all....so, maybe if I just go back to the gym and do some lifting, I will:

    1. skip the unnecessary lunch-time calories;
    2. continue to regulate much better sleep; and
    3. get away from the office.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I am undecided on this, but I might actually give this a whirl, tomorrow!

    I DID LIFT, ALREADY, TODAY!

Hello all!!! Happy St Patrick's Day!! Are you getting pinched or kissed.  I did a quick workout this morning, just some bodyweight exercises and some choreo practice. Teaching tonight. Down another pound!! :drinker: It really helps to eat clean!!!! And weight training!! I am .2oz from my goal. LOL Ok...I'm there. I made homemade snack bars this morning. I used this recipe http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2011/08/12/hot-fudge-brownie-larabars/ I used cashews instead of walnuts. The dates I bought were on the dry side so I added water as recommended. I also added 2 tbs of unsweeneted organic coconut flakes. I should have added more. They are good!!! But I think I blew up my nutribullet, it started smelling like burning and smoked... I need to bite the bullet and buy a food processor!!!! Geez!!!! And my blender is not any good either. I wish I could get a Vitamix but those things are soooo expensive!!!

Ruby, try to get back on the swing of things as soon as you can. I know it might be easier than said but it is easy to get off track so the faster you get to it the easier it will be. :flowerforyou:

Beeps, those are really good "excuses" to get to the gym during lunch.

Sdereski, those ice caves are such beauties. I don't do very well in cold weather but give me the proper gear and I am all for it especially if it is to have some fun. When I lived in Germany I had no problem skiing or going to the Christkindlmarkts.

alf -congratulations on being "at goal"!! That seemed to happen REALLY FAST....which I think is a testament to the importance of returning to fitness/nutrition, as soon as one can!

I am wearing a great green dress!! ("...but not a real green dress, that's cruel!"....2 points for KNOWING this Canadian band!?!?!?)

Beeps - that sounds like a great idea to get out of the office during lunch time. I work in an office and when I used to have a gym close by I did that M-F and loved it. You really inspired me about the heavy lifting, I had read your profile how you used to do a lot of cardio and then discovered heavy lifting and changed your body. That was exactly what I needed, I was doing tons of cardio and not getting toned. Within a little over a week on the weight program I could not believe the difference in my body. I think when I used to lift weights I wasted a lot of time by not using the right form and going WAY to fast to just check it off. Now I am making each rep count! I am 0 points on your Q about the Canadian Band... shoot.

Alf - GREAT JOB ON GETTING TO YOUR GOAL WEIGHT!! :drinker: I hope someday I can post the same. Thanks for the advice on getting back into my routine ASAP, I know you are right about how fast it can slip away. Even getting started on Sunday seemed hard and before I got sick I was so excited to do it. On my days off I was bummed to not lift. I am preparing all my clothes, coffee, ect tonight so I am ready to rock it right away tomorrow. Wish me luck before the sun comes up I better be up.

    Happy St Patricks Day!!!

Alf congrats on getting to goal weight What a great accomplishment.

I need to incorporate a weight training program along with my cardio. Does body weight exercises count??? I am going to pick up a copy of the rules for weightlifting for women.
several of my MFP friends have recommended it. Just made my five week plan for exercise routine today.

If you have a specific injury, perhaps bodyweight counts....otherwise, pick up the free weights and DO THEM.

Beeps, that was soooo funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I liked the photo of the competition guy, LOL, before Arnold's picture. But oh so true, yes, pick up those heavy weights. Increase gradually though...I have gotten hurt in the past yes so I am very cautious. But I don't get stuck in the 5-10lb dumbbells. I really need to invest in a barbell set but I don't have space in the house for it. I don't go to the gym anymore. So my set of Bowflex adjustable weights can do the job right now...

Thank you to all of you for the kind words. I have been at goal weight before, about 2 yrs ago, actually below, 122. But I got too comfortable and went back to old habits and poof, "magically", the weight crept up again!!!!!!!!!!! I think 122 is way too low for me so 125 is my lucky number. Hope to keep it this way, 1 to 3 give or take. So will see, maintenance is the hardest!!!! :grumble: I am still learning. I am not the same person since I joined MFP in 2008 especially when we are talking nutrition. The old me thought a calorie but just a calorie now I try my best to eat healthy foods and not so much processed junk. The old me thought I could eat anything I wanted as long as I was exercising, NOPE, I know better now.

    Have a great evening!!! :flowerforyou:

Beeps, love the bare naked ladies. That was the very first song if theirs I heard many years ago. They were guests on Morningside. 2 points if you know what that is and who the host was!!
Oh, BTW, you look great in the green dress.
Alf, congrats on getting to goal! I knew you would do it!!

Ruby, great job getting back to it.

I was not feeling well at all last night, so missed my workout.
Felt better as the day went on, so got my run in (only 30 min) and then Was off to curling. Lost the game. Bummer.

You kids are all doing fan-tas-tic! :drinker:

Happy Hump Day all! I have been sick for the last several days, and still feeling under the weather, but am back at work today with my aloe infused tissues in hand. My nose is so sore! No workouts as breathing has been more difficult since my nose has been so plugged. Also, my grandson is at the house today and tomorrow. My next scheduled gym day is Friday so hoping that I am feeling much better by then.

Alf- congrats on reaching your goal. Your snack bars sound yummy- too bad about your nutribullet though.

Beeps- Loved the green dress! Very cute!

    Have a great day all!

Oh - and funny video. haha I don't do any lifting. I might like to some day. I'm doing 20 minute DVD's now and once I get to my goal weight I'll see what's next. I don't have a gym here so have to get organized to figure out what I should be doing.

Beeps~  It's all good. I have been on antibiotics for three days. I am over the contagious stage at this point. I definitely make sure to stay out of his face though. Lucky for me he is not at a "huggie/kissie" stage. He is too busy being a boy for that!
