Good morning Cool Kids! I just got in from my appointment. I am one step closer to getting off my last diabetes medication. We cut the dose in half in both the morning and afternoon. My A1c was 5.6- can't ask for better! Cholesterol, triglycerides and all the rest were good as well. According to their scales I have lost 6.5lbs since my last appointment- I will have to say that while I am still losing, it certainly has slowed to a snail's pace.:ohwell:

I took today as a rest day since it was raining and stormy when I got up and I was able to relax a bit before heading to my appointment. If it is nice later, I may try to go for a walk.

Larro- glad to hear your mom is doing better. What a relief!

Geekmeister- Welcome and good luck on your first 5k!

Hi to everyone else! Hope you all have a great day!

I totally want a 6.5 lb weight loss....I am spinning my wheels, here.

    Good morning Kids!

Super news about your mom Larro. She sounds fiesty!
Kelly Sue, so awesome to hear about the 1/2 dose and the 6.5 lbs.! You've worked hard for that!
Sdereski, I'll check out that website. Perhaps I should plan a kayaking trip to Lake Superior soon!
Standing on a motorcycle does sound dangerous! But I'm only going about 20 mph. AND I'm armored like a medieval knight!
Just, I peeked at your diary when you mentioned the scale not cooperating. I'm not a dietician, but your sugar intake is nearly double the recommendation. I know sugar messes me up in all sorts of ways, even when I'm within my calorie goals. Just a thought. The fact that you're here and committed is going to take you a long way!
Geek, welcome! Cool about your first 5K, and really really cool about nearing your goal! That's fantastic! How long did that take you?
I brought my little 2 lb. weights to work. We have a little work out area at my office where we've all contributed gear and equipment. It's pretty great. I've been lousy about working out at home, so maybe a break and lunch routine will be easier to follow.
Who knew that three beers (really good ones) could equal 765 calories!?! Holy poo! Should've scanned that barcode before the partying began.:ohwell: Totally blew the door off my calorie goal for yesterday. Extra discipline going into the weekend.

Wishing you all a lovely Thursday.

Thanks Curious! I had a good sit-down with myself about that lol. I was doing great in the sugar avoidance then did some reading and IIFYM says go for it! So I did. Well, they didn't mean forget about protein, fats carbs etc - Durrrr! ( as my 12 yr old would say ). Ive taken a new look at what I eat today.

Sugar really is my thing and I need to get OVER it

    Kellysue - Awesome news!

Beeps - We can DO this!

Good Morning guys. I'm back at the hospital again this morning. Mamma is ready to come home. We are hoping she can get a slot at Blountstown Health and Rehab. We know the people there, and since Margie and I work in Blountstown, it would be much easier on us. Thanks for all the kind words.

Welcome Geek. Good luck with your run. I have been around 176, {my goal weight} for about two months now. I lost 65 pounds, from 240 down to 175. It is nice to be able to eat a little more everyday.

    Welcome Euregirl and Just.

KellySue, glad your sugar numbers are getting where they need to be.

Speaking of numbers, it's my check-in day, so I'll just leave these here:

Body Fat: 22.3% Body Water: 56.6% BMI 24.7 Weight: 176.8

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Hello Cool Kids!

Just finding me, Geek and Wonka Cat - Welcome to the Club

KellySue - I am so proud of you. You give me hope that it can happen for me too.

Beeps - Just keep focused and it will happen for you too. You are way too determined of a person to not achieve what you want!

CG - My husband loves riding a dual sport bike too. I ride a 4-wheeler sometimes. But I learned late in life and still not always great with gears! LOL! :blushing:

Larro - I hope that you get your Momma close to home so that you can be there for her and still do all that you need/have to do.

Sderesk - I think it is awesome that you were more concerned with your friend then getting a perfect time. Kudos to you! :flowerforyou:

Got my lifting in-and-done....that's 4 days in a row.

    Whew!

I am only eating raw peas for lunch! My nanny went to the farmer's market yesterday and I had a HUGE pea feed for supper last night and I'm continuing on with this lunch.....I know peas are "starch-heavy", but I don't care. It is ONE time per year....pea season is likely nearly done....and the peas DO NOT WAIT! You gotta eat 'em and love 'em and then apologize to your husband for the night-time gassing...

I picked peas {just about} by the light of the moon last night. I got out there right at dark and did the best I could. Luckily they are Crowders, and get lighter as they get ripe. They had to be picked or they would dry up. Margie took them to work today and gave them away. But there will be more in three days. I have to work around the pea calories. After going to all the trouble of growing them, I'm going to eat at least one mess a week until they are all gone.

It just dawned on me today is Thursday. And I left the house without doing my lifting this morning. So I have it to do when I get off work. That is just great. I have two lighter weights at work, and I might do half my workout here. But on the last lift of the month I try to do a preview of the coming month's weight. So if you hear grunting around midnight, it is just me, huffing and puffing.

My sister just called from the hospital. The local rehab checked out as far as Mamma's insurance, and they had a spot open. But for Medicare to pay it's part, she would have to spend three nights in the hospital. And since it was 0430 when they got to the room Wednesday morning, Tuesday night doesn't count. The hospital can't keep her longer just for that, or it would be Medicare fraud. But if her blood pressure was to go up, then they would have to do more test to find out why. I told Sister to sneak her a salt shaker and let nature take it's course:noway:

So it looks like she will be going to Health South in Panama City tomorrow. {because they spent all afternoon trying to get in the place here in Blountstown, they missed the deadline for today} She was there before and it is a bigger and better facility than the local one. And we won't have to be going everyday like with the hospital. All in all, it's good news.

Hey cool kids, hope all of you are well.

The group is growing and that is great. Welcome to all newcomers...just finding me...geek, wonka and nowiner. Hope you enjoy your stay. This is an active and supportive group.

KellySue...there is nothing more thrilling than being told that you no longer need your meds. I was absolutely elated. You rock. Keep up the fab job.

Larro..I wish your mom a speedy recovery. Hope you are holding up. You know the group is here for you. You never disappoint with the photos.

Beeps..enjoy the peas. I cracked up about the gas. Oh well it's a bodily function..I know whatever is going with you, that you will handle accordingly.

Srdeski..very noble of you regarding your friend.

I trained with my trainer yesterday and then took boxing.bosu training. My boxing teacher resigned and the guy who is replacing him has many of us concerned. i trained again with my trainer today and I needed that heavy weight lifting. I rarely work out during the day and i felt like i was on display. i have alopecia and decided i would not wear wigs or scarves. Since I have a bald head, I get some of the strangest looks. There were two guys who stopped lifting weights today and kept looking at my shiny head as I trained. My next 5k is sept 14th. I am looking forward to my second race. I bore rather easily and have to keep switching things up. I will add a barre class to my mix once a month or so.

    Have a great evening everyone.

Hi. I just found this thread. I'll be 50 in 4 months. I've been logging like a madman for the last 4 months. Dropped 6% bf in three months and am close to 10% now. I feel my diet/macros are dialed in for once in my life. I feel great, my mood is elevated from my workouts. I'm eating complete whole food meals at every meal for the first time in my life. I wish this lifestyle on everyone our age. Good luck folks on your journey to your goals.

    edited to add. I'm 6'2", 200 pounds.

Curious, thanks for the welcome. It has taken me a little over a year to lose 75lbs and that was with a 17lb gain in the middle. I've been back on course since May so roughly 12 weeks for the last 35lbs. After I'm at goal weight I'm heading I to the gym to start lifting again. I've limited my exercise to cardio only this time around because my goal weight has become an unhealthy obsession for me lol. On the bright side I can now run more than thirty feet without feeling like I'm going to pass out which is not something I could have said a year ago.

Anyway, thanks for having me here in this group, I'll check back often!

Happy Friday! I went out for a bike ride this am. It was nice out and nice to see the sunrise! I did get bit by something when I was out there that was not pleasant though. It didn't even care that I had a long sleeved shirt on and bit anyway:grumble:

Looking forward to the weekend just for some relaxation- I feel like this has been a busy, tiring week. Will probably hit the gym tomorrow if hubby is feeling up to it. He hasn't been feeling well for a while now- he seems to get better for a few days then feels blah again.

Larro- glad to hear things are improving for your mother. Your peas sound lovely. I really enjoy the fresh ones so much more, but have to buy mine which can be a bit more difficult.

Caramel- Don't worry about others looking at you- they were probably admiring your strength! You get out there and do what you need to do!

    Have a great day all!

    Hi everyone!

No lifting for me, today....I am just gonna rest and eat a normal salad for lunch. I lifted 4 days in a row and my right elbow is TWINGey. That is enough!

Tomorrow is scheduled cardio....and I'll weigh in after that. With luck, and given my good calorie control this week, I feel like I am for sure 1 lb lighter!

    BOOM!

I'm with KellySue and looking forward to the weekend. I'll be home this weekend, so will log and check in. Weekends are hard with my BF there. He comes Thurs eve and stays through dinner Sund. Of course he's 140 dripping wet. It does get tough feeding him one thing -- usually something really good that I really want to eat -- and then nibbling a dressing-free salad. :grumble: ...oh dear, I'm whining. ok. Sucking it up now.

Way to go on your 4-day lifting streak Beeps! You deserve a rest day to reflect on your success, and rest the elbow. That 1lb. is long gone.

Larro, glad your mom got a good spot, even though not near your work. Medicare and insurance in general are very screwy. What are crowder peas? Not familiar with the variety.

I already ate my first pea crop, and finished planting the next round last night. I absolutely love peas too! At least they have a lot of fiber.

Welcome Mrbyte & phillb! Stick around and feel the love. This is a great and active group.

35 lbs. in 12 weeks is really awesome Geek. I can tell you're super motivated! And you nipped that upswing in the bud. I used to run in my 20s & 30s and miss it. It's a great feeling. I did my 1st 5K , which turned into a 10K because I missed the turn, pushing my son in a stroller! It was great. That was the Border Run in San Diego. Sadly I have something called a "retroverted" hip so the years of running have done some damage, and I had to swear it off. When is your race?

Caramel, your lifting regime sounds amazing. Very inspiring. And boxing! I hope your new coach works out for you.

This weekend will have the usual activities. A motorbike ride Saturday, out to sea for kayaking Sunday, and then the usual house and garden chores. My apples are ripe, and there's still kale and plenty of dandelions, so maybe I'll do some juicing. I'll weigh in on Monday.

    Have a great day all!

    Have a great day all!

First off, when a Southerner says peas, they mean cow peas. The peas I have bearing right now are Brown Crowder Cow Peas. They have a big, full pod that gets lighter as they ripen. When allowed to dry, {or when you buy the seeds} they have a dull brown color. Even when cooking the green peas, they turn the soup a dark color. I found out they are a very viney pea. I didn't put my rows far enough apart. There is no way not to step on the vines when picking.

My granddaddy brought a speckled Crowder pea with him when he came down from Georgia in the early 1910's. It came to be known as the Lon Messer Speckled Pea. My granny kept the strain alive until she died in the 1980's, and Mamma kept it going for years after that. But it got cross bred so often it wasn't the same pea. I was trying to find a speckled Crowder and the Brown Crowder was all I could find in the local seed stores. I have seen some speckled heirloom seeds on line, and I guess I will buy some before spring. But they are pretty costly, and it is such a pain to plant far enough away from the regular garden to safeguard against cross pollination.

I didn't start weight training until I was very close to my goal weight. Now I wish I had started much earlier. When you lose a lot of weight, you also lose muscle. I'm working now to rebuild what I lost through cardio and deficient eating.. You should try a couple of light weight sessions a week just to keep what you have. And if you do it before your cardio, it will cause you to burn more calories.

Are you getting the, "are you sick," questions yet? I'm 5' 11 3/4" and at 175 pounds folks are asking me all the time if I have been sick. I will admit the weight loss has changed the profile of my face quite a bit. It is taking a while, but I'm getting used to it.

You are doing great. You have changed your life style, so a few pounds here or there will not matter in the long run. I'm hoping to gain back 5-10 pounds of muscle, but it is going to be a long slow job of work.

    Hi Phylb & Mrbyte

Im feeling pretty good today, closed my online shop for the rest of the summer so I can focus on my kiddos, get outdoors and prepare for our upcoming 3000 km road trip! We are travelling to the west coast for my baby sisters wedding. Part of my inspiration for getting back in shape is the 90% spandex gowns my sister chose for our bridesmaids dresses!!!! UGH. Honestly......LOL Shes lucky I love her so much.

Its a beautiful day so Im going to go for a long walk before I lift. Im going to mix up my workouts a bit today and have made a conscious effort to lay off the sugar because I have been at a bit of a stall for 3 weeks. At the beginning I had the big whoosh (8 lbs in 1.5 weeks ) then only a pound since. Wish me luck!

    Happy Friday to everyone,

    Enjoy your day!

Hi everyone. I'm off to costco to get my organic foods(mainly my meats from there) in bulk. I find if I am stocked up I eat better. If I run out, trouble begins. My problem is keeping up with my caloric needs at this condition. I will lose pretty quickly if I don't keep up with they calories. Currently I am eating 3300 to 3500 calories and my weight is pegged at 200. 20% carbs, around 260g of protein a day.

larrodarro, I agree with resistance training right away when trying to lose weight. By keeping your LBM up your base metabolic rate stays high and you can burn more just sitting around. Plus, you can eat more and enjoy life in general and end up with a more full looking physique when you reach your goal weight and not play catch up with LBM. I think people who do this reach their goals much faster imo. I'll help in anyway I can on this thread.

Oh..I'd better add that I in no way am advocating my diet or macros to anybody. I've gotten blasted on other forums that my protein uptake is to high and my carb intake is to low. I didn't advocate it there or here. Just stating what I do. I hope this clears things up if anyone else wants to criticize the way I eat.

Beeps...you need some r&r this weekend. Hope you do.

Larro, I wish I had did more strength/weight training right from the start.

I decided to only walk this weekend. I am quite tired.

Curious - Thanks for the encouragement, sorry to hear about your hip issue. I've really learned to love running...something I've always frowned on in my early years. When I was in the military I hated it...HATED IT. For some reason it just brings me some peace when I'm out there alone running with my tunes on. My race is on the 7th, its called the "Freedom Run" and is a local 5K here in the midwest to celebrate our military veterans. It seems like a cool event so I'm gonna go for it. I actually was signed up for an event earlier in the year but I had a calf injury (something that continues to plague my runs) so I couldn't make it. This one I dont care if I'm on crutches I'm running it just so I can say that I ran one. In any case, thanks again for the words and welcome.

Larro - Yeah last year when I was dropping a bunch of weight I went straight into the gym...I dont regret it but it slowed down my losses and played games with my brain. It de-motivated me to a degree because I was up and down. I was gaining muscle for sure but my fat loss just wasn't there...I'm sure I was over training as I was running as well...probably what caused my calf injury. Regardless, it hasn't been my goal to be emaciated...though I am getting to that point, I just want my goal number. As I said...a little bit of an unhealthy obsession. Yes I've been asked if I'm sick...do I have an eating disorder...etc. I dont even bother to argue with anyone. Its just part of my plan. Get the fat off...which for the most part it is...then head into the gym and increase calories so I can gain in a lean way. I have no desire to simply be skinny. I want to be in shape and healthy..simple as that. I think as long as I am in control of it and am aware of my low weight I can deal with it. I'm not saying that I'm right but with 5lbs to go, I'm just going to see it through and hopefully it'll work. I know my way around the gym pretty well and I'm sure with the huge deficit I've been in it will not take long to gain weight back as soon as I migrate my calories to slightly above maintenance.

Thanks again all. Looking forward to participating in this group!

Larrodarro, I believe consistency is key. Train at least 9 months out of the year if possible and find the macros that work for you and stick with it. I'm a big believer in wholesome foods as well. Less supplements when possible. Proteins should be eaten and not drank(when possible). I don't have more than 30 grams of carbs per meal and it works astonishingly well for me. Again, I eat a lot of protein. I eat 8 oz of meats at least per meal but I don't recommend that to anyone. I don't think it's a simple as CICO as well since I'm way over my CI frequently and I don't gain bf on my macros so far. I'm still observing.

caramelgyrlk, Yes I agree. I think its very positive here but I just wanted to put that out so I don't get reported or something for promoting a diet that some haters feel doesn't fit thier parameters. I only tell what I do to get my results. I don't promote. :)

I can't run because of a back injury but I bike in place. I get more of a leg workout with a bike anyway and like the quads getting pumped.
