if you shouldn't drink pop, then what should you drink with your rum? lol
    Sunny Delight!

Emily....I just gagged a little!! ;-) I love a good Captain and Diet Coke every once in a while...but the idea of rum and Sunny D sounds gross!!!! :D
Oh but it's delicious, it's pretty much the only way Sunny Delight is even worth drinking.

What I meant to say was as I was walking through the commons area someone put a cup in my hand and said drink this. It was sunny D and rum. It tasted like a creamsicle. So delicious. How can you be on a diet that won't let you drink this once in a blue moon? It just isn't right.

Oh, I could...but I just started this week...not ready to take a "break" just yet! :-) I'll try it when I do, though!

-sickface- Soda and I have been done for a while. I haven't bought any in the cans to keep in my home for a long time. Sometimes, I'd bring home a two-liter of Cream Soda, but that stuff is like 80 calories for eight ounces, and I could never just drink that little.

My husband went to the doctor in May 2011, I had set him up for a physcial and he had some fasting lab work done that included his cholesterol, which was off the charts. At the time he was 273 lbs and a pack a day smoker and a 6 pack a day MT Dew drinker- you know what the doctor told him---- STOP DRINKING SODA!!!!!! You figure he'd be jumping on the smoking, right? NOPE it was the soda first- He slowly got off the soda and he is now 211 lbs his lab work is great-- smokinig is next. The doctor told him that soda, including diet soda , is the one of the worst things you can be putting into your body.

That is crazy. I'd want a new doctor. How can drinking diet soda be worse than smoking?

In general it's not, but six regular mountain dew's a day could be just as bad as smoking if they're causing you to become obese and diabetic. In regard to diet soda, it's associated with obesity even more strongly than regular soda is. There is no great RCT that proves it's causal, but most feel that it probably is.

Because the ridiculous food industry somehow manages to get by on feeding people poison and looking good doing it, while tobacco companies no longer can. Personally, I think having a regular horrible diet that includes multiple serving of sugar-ladden drinks and fried foods is just as bad for your health as having a few cigarettes. The only different is what parts of the body they affect. Both cause premature death, although smoking doesn't make you quite as ugly.

Your absolutely right. Sugar, chemical and caffeine laden foods often affect the same parts of the body that smoking affects both inside and out from your organs to your skin.

I'm not sure that there are any studies that link "chemically laden" foods to disease the same way cigarettes have been linked to cancer, cardiovascular diseases and lung diseases such as emphysema and COPD.
And now you're pulling caffeine into this discussion. If anything, coffee has been linked to prevention of cancer and Type 2 diabetes.

I drink about 2 cans of diet pepsi a day and just have not been able to give it up. It's either that or coffee/cappucino and the diet pepsi has 0 calories!

    ditto!

Read a gross story this morn about Mt Dew.

...someone reported that they found a dead mouse in their can of Mt Dew. Pepsi disputed it saying "if a mouse was submerged in Mountain Dew between four and seven days, the rodent will have no calcium in its bones and bony structures." It would be "jelly like" The only part of the rodent that could survive, added McGill, was "a portion of the tail."

    Definately made me think. YUCK!!

Yeah....that's what we're all talking about. The OP linked to that story.

THE OP DID NOT HAVE ALL THE SAME INFORMATION AS THIS COMMENT HON. READ THE WHOLE STORY AND YOU WOULDN'T BE LAUGHING OVER SOMEBODY ELSE BEING FOOLISH!

LOL that's why Coca Cola rules!!!! I think anything dead would turn into jelly in soda. It's highly acidic. I'll drink regular coke on occasion and that's it. It's the aspartame I dislike. BLAGh!

I started getting really bad acid reflux this year. I've been a serious Diet Coke drinker for YEARS. I wonder if the soda is what's causing it.
