My Uncle Darrel, the man who changed my life and made me the person I am today, passed away recently. I got a tattoo in remembrance of him. My Uncle was a recovering alcoholic and devout coffee drinker (several pots a day) he always had a coffee cup in his hand. The word Serenity represents the serenity prayer, a prayer he taught me, a prayer that got him and myself through a lot. It's the tattoo that has the most meaning to me.

I only have one so far, want more though. MIne is a butterfly which doesn't have much meaning to me, except the body of it is a cancer ribbon that is half pink, for my grandma who I lost to breast cancer, and half grey, for my dad who I lost to lung cancer.

    I have four tattoos...

First, a 'tramp stamp' of a native-art inspired butterfly, that I designed when I was 15, and got when I was 19. Butterflies symbolize a lot of things for me, the greatest of which is Freedom. Beauty, grace, delicacy, and spirit are the other things that they make me think of.

Second, an Alpha & Omega done just above my shoulderblades, which I got on my 22nd birthday. Alpha and Omega symbolize the Beginning and the End, and are sometimes used to symbolize God.

Third, my favourite, a large scrawl of words in Greek, on upper right quadrant of my back, which reads:
Freedom through Submission (or Charity, the meaning is desputable)
    Power through Trust
    Love through Faith

Fourth, my most recent, my medic-alert on my left wrist. I have a couple allergies that can either kill me or get me hospitalized at the very least, and I am allergic to my allergy bracelet. Seriously. Pic of this tattoo is in my profile.

    Edit to add:

My next two tattoos are going to be very meaningful for me as well- the small one will be on my foot, and will read "Love is the Protest", and the other will cover the whole left side of my back, and it's a tree that I designed a few years ago and have been too chicken-*kitten* and broke to get. It'll be a $1500 piece.

This thread makes me want more tattoos!

    I have:

    1. Left Shoulder: My name mixed up to look like a design--I bought a painting of it at an art fair and had it made into a tattoo.

    2. Center between shoulders/under neck: butterfly--went thru a tough period in my life and got it when I 'emerged' from that time.

    3. Right foot--a swirly vine that I drew with stars and two hearts--one for my grandmother that I was very close to and one for my little brother that died of SIDS at 4 months

    4. Inner left ankle: A Kanji symbol that means 'love conquers all' (and yes, I did my research!)

My daughter and I have the Kanji symbol for strength. She had cancer as a baby. We did the tattooes together to signify our relationship and all we have been through together!

    I have two right now.

    1. a ring of dressage horses around my right ankle - symbolizing my love of horses and the sport of dressage. I used to compete locally.

    2. Three celtic rune stones with my sons' and my zodiac signs on them, down my left forearm.
