It's funny you're posting this...I literally JUST finished reading through a post that was 80% people being nasty and rude simply because they disagreed about the infamous "negative calorie foods". My mom always taught me that if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Some of these people need to speak to my mom.

    Same here!

This is the internet. If you post on public message boards, you should have thick skin. If someone says something offensive to you, ignore them.

It's a shame MFP does not have an ignore option.
actually i think they do(not sure am using mobil) that lil arrow next to the users name

Yes, it is, I just saw. Didn't realize that was there lol

Says the guy who posted videos about the alkaline diet

    Exactly my point ^^^

So my question, aside from the information being right or wrong and stating so in a more educating way, was it anything that would harm a person? Not at all.

You are putting silliness into people's heads which is doing nothing to further educate them, if someone watched that and didn't have the where with all to do a little research themselves, they might actually beleive the video, making them more ignorant to the how things actually work.

Not everyone has thick skin. Some people turn to these boards becasue they do not have people in their lives who support them through their fitness goals. When those people get bullied and hurt on here, they lose any support system they may have. Words can cause serious damage to someone's life. And un-provoked meanness is never acceptable, no matter where it takes place. I'm not saying we should form some sort of vigilante group that seeks to destroy the nay-sayers... I am saying that if you are here to HELP and SUPPORT people through their fitness goals, make your voice louder than those who are here to be cruel.

OP, you rock. :) Exactly this.

    This and this!

Insisting that everything be supportive and positive all the time is simply not realistic or possible. After all we're people and we're friggin' starving!

Definitely starving. I need another apple. :)

But I do disagree with it not being realistic or possible. Moderators, or at least the site owner, could close accounts of habitual bullies, could they not?

    Agreed.

I think they just feel comfortable behind the safety of their computer to type nasty things... because WOW I'm sure they'd get punched in the face if they had the b@lls to say what they say to someone's face

When I first joined MFP I was blown away by the supportive community but lately I have noticed a lot of tear-downs (I'm thinking specifically about women's bodies)...I don't know if it is new or if I was not around long enough to notice

I have a lot of dumb fitness questions to ask but no way would I post them because I would be ripped to shreds

Hey, I heard there is an ignore option. Anyone care to tell me how to do it?

So instead of clicking the ignore button you feel the mods should deactivate people who say things you or someone else considers to be negative?

This would make for a very bad website and very busy mods working hard to kick off users they need for revenue.

Again, why not just use the ignore feature if you don't want to read what someone says?

And you still don't get it right? Didn't I say that people, including myself, are not professionals in the field or specialists? And if you are going to talk about research, what kind of research are you talking about? Because if you are as smart as you trying to sound, then you should be aware that the internet is full of useless information as much as good material.

auticus - There is an ignore function. Next to everyone's user name in a forum thread there's a little arrow that will open a drop-down box, and the bottom option is "Ignore User".

    Did not know that!

This is going to be my last reply on my own post, because I don't want to somehow continue to fuel any of the negativity that is happening here. I am just going to seek out people who need support and encouragment on other boards, and do my best to give it them :-)

Using the ignore feature burns no calories. ;)

I can use ignore feature, but I believe more people are unaware of this option than are aware. It's not so obvious. I acknowledge it's simply a preference issue- I prefer the moderators keep the site full of supportive people, but I know that's just my preference. Yep, they'd be busy, unless more mods were added.

As for lost revenue, people do leave sites because of negativity. That's also lost revenue, isn't it?
