OH MY so many people brainwashed to think calories actually matter.

That's the whole premise of the website. If you disagree, you're certainly entitled to do so, but it's more than a little rude to come here and mock everyone using the site as intended.

OH MY so many people brainwashed to think calories actually matter. Someone do a research on bacteria, enzymes ,and stomach acids and you will find out that calories mean absolutely squat! The stuff we log is no where near accurate anyways. Just how things are packaged, shipped, cooked or grown change every single one of them.

You should log the vegetables though just to stay in habit of keeping track of what you ate. This way you can see why you were not hungry some days and then hungry others. You will also be able to see if you had allergic reactions or some other kind reaction after eating certain foods as well. Most body bloat is from eating foods your body is reacting to.

So you're saying I can eat 7,000 calories a day and still lose weight? HOORAY!!!

I'm vegan that's essentially all I eat. I've been chubby my whole life! lol

Calories in calories out regardless where they came from <3

    =]

I think I'd vomit before I reached 3,000 calories of only veggies.

Lol!! love this reply. I can see where you are coming from but as people have said its all about balance. A wise person once said "calories are calories are calories"

You should count everything so you know ALL the nutrients you are getting, not just calories, to include: vitamins, minerals, and carbs and fat and all that jazz.

I've always eaten lots of vegetables. But it wasn't until I joined MFP and started keeping track of portion sizes that I started losing weight.

carrots and lettuce and peppers might not have alot of calories, but starchy veggies sure do. Beans and potatos and corn are loaded with calories. I count them all.

    Beans?

    Technically beans are fruit.
    Culinarily they are a veggie.

Same goes for bananas....They are a veggie but we all refer to them as a fruit.

Everyone knows when she is saying vegetables she is talking about the "culinary" veggies. Jeesh

    beans are a legume, always

    calories are calories are calories

Yet universally pretty much every study ever done that played with macro-nutrient ratios and kept calories consistent has shown otherwise.

In this trial, the low carb group actually ate more calories a day, and lost more weight, showed no increased risk factors over the low fat group (which ate less calories), lost more weight, and improved insulin resistance as opposed to the low fat group.

There are approximately a billion more like it. But this one proves my point so I will exit here.

No one can ever get fat eating tons of vegetables so i don't see the need to count the calories in them.

i don't add my veggie calories and still lose weight.!

They still have calories, whether you count them or not. And even if the number of calories is small, and your argument holds, your thread title implies that it's bad to count the calories, which is clearly not true. Calories are calories.

My biggest thing I have a problem with keeping up with is sodium... and most veggies, especially frozen or canned, have a decent amount of sodium that could really add up...
I log EVERY BITE that I eat.
Most days I plan out my day and only eat what I planned, and yes, veggies are there too.
But, if it keeps you on track to not log your veggies, more power to you!
I just know that cutting my sodium has helped more than anything.

You'll eat more vegetables if you don't get penalized for counting them. It is obviously working for her so don't judge.

Actually, bananas are technically an herb and we all know herbs and spices are zero calories.

The point is, the vege calories are negligible and if counting them discourages you from eating them then you should stop.

Seriously? Bananas are *loaded* with sugar. And the only "zero calorie" thing you have? Water. Just saying.

Think of it this way: your maintenance is 2000 cals you eat 1950 cals of non-veggies, then counting veggies becomes important as it would be easy to go over your 2000 it this case.

^What he said. Count it all, baby girl! :flowerforyou:

Agreed, it would be very hard to eat 3,000cal of just veggies (no oil/butter/etc.) so I can understand what the OP is saying but I am vegetarian so I count everything as well... vegetables didn't make me chubby; butter and oil, sugars and fried things did :(
