Hey I am running late again. Everything here is about the same. Just got back from a walk with Sammy., calie ,and Jerry. Had a good dinner of Salmon. steam cabbage and blackberries. And ice tea.
Hope everyone had a good day.

    Caliecat

Calie that dinner sounds really good. Last night I had steamed brocolli with cheese melted on top and baked hot wings.

I am starting over on Atkins again. I went on a binge after losing down to 212, between my period coming on and binging on sugar cookies with thick icing, the scale said 226 this morning. Has to be mostly water weight, but dang!!!

I am mad at myself................Sugar is high this morning to boot too. :grumble: :grumble:

Hello everyone! I just found this thread today. I have been on MFP for about three weeks now, still learning. I have been a diabetic for, it will be 18 years in September. I got diagnosed with it for my 30th birthday! I also have a huge family history of diabetics. Seen a lot of bad stuff along the way. I was a angel at the beginning and like everyone else, I fell of the wagon. I have no complications as of yet, Keep praying I do not. I am on oral meds, and hoping to get taken off of those. My A1c is running at 5.8, so that is real good. I am always pecking away at it and always reading up on the disease. I agree that knowledge is power, Also I believe that me as a person is the one who has to take care of myself. The doctors have a lot of knowledge, but each person is different in how they react to different foods and meds. So you need to know what your body does with all the different kinds of foods.

I think I am doing well. I have lost 34 pounds in about a year and a half. I hit a plataue and that is when I joined this web site. It has helped me loose the last 2 pounds. This morning my glucose was 97, so that is great and I plan on keeping it up. I had a half a multi grain bagel with SF apricote preserves on it for breakfast.

I have the same problem as some of you. My husband does not want to eat the same foods as I do, he is afraid of not having any flavor! LOL! Sometimes that makes it very hard to stick with your plan. The other day we had smoked sausage and Mac & Cheese. It was horrible. I only ate about 2 oz of sausage and had 1/2 cup mac & cheese. I felt so hungry afterwards. Men!

Thank you guys for having this thread. I am hoping it will help me in many ways. I will try to checkin every day with you all. Thanks again!

Hello Jdhall , wonderful to see your post. seems like you have it all under control. do you think you will be able to get off of the med. My doctor told me as long as I have had diabetes I will probale never get off insulin. At least she has me incontrol most of the time. I am on a very low carb diet. Hoping to see you around more often.

I was told last check that I could take one of my Amaryl away if my morning sugar was 80 or below. I was having low times before lunch. I am afraid to take it away, afraid it will go back up. Everyone in my family who has diabetes are not very good at keeping in control and I am afraid of the "oh I am off my meds, I can eat what I want" feeling. That would not be good. We will see what my A1c is in June and I will see what the doctor says. I take Advandmet 4/1000 two times per day and the Amaryl 4mg two times per day.

My mom was type 2 ever since I can remember and she died of Congestive heart failure about 16 years ago, My dad has be diabetic as long as I have and he is on insulin. My older brother has it and he lets his go crazy. The last time he went to the doctor they told him he would have to go on insulin if he did not get into control. He since then has done a little better. Talked to him the other day and he is in the 180's, Still not the best, but better.

I have heard you can get off your meds, but I do not think you will ever not be classified as a diabetic. I see a regular family doctor once every 3 to 4 months. Thank you and hope to talk soon.

I notice this morning as I was showering that the lower part of my tummy is still swollen up and still black and blue. So maybe Friday my weigh in time I can lose some more. I will be weighing before I leave to go to the hospital if i can remember it, Have to be there 6 in the morning. I am posting on the green team come join me. They seems really nice. I notice that Chipper has a thread going on keeping up on your weight yesterday. I wish I had known about hers before I sign up with the green team. I did post with MFPME thread but she left and I need someone to keep it up for me. It is a self maintaining thread now. So I was looking for a new team.

Sorry to be so late in posting. My graddaughter is in town and we went out to eat. and I stay on my meal plan. Hurray for me. I am cooking me some stuffed jalopeno for my salad I am haing tonight. Making plenty so I will have left overs.

Hi jdhall---- sounds like you have your blood sugar in good control. My doctor just wwont me to keep it aroun 140 since I am on insulin. I get nervouse if mine got that low in the morning. Since I have been on this low carb diet I have not had any low blood sugar like I used to have. used twake me up at night in a heat sweat and filling sick and dizzy everything you can think of. they are certainly no fun. I never had any lows while I was on pills.

    Have a good nite

    Hi all.
I just happened upon this site a couple of days ago. I am very happy about it.
    quick run down.
type 2 for 2.5 years now.
have been on byetta 5mg twice a day
lost 45 pounds at beginning of disease due to diet change, BUT
quit smoking 6 months into diagnosis, after losing all the weight, and gained it all back.
I am currently 247, and will be turning 50 years old this august,
Just when I think I have a handle on it wham, I get blood work back that says protein in urine, small amounts but enough to bring back the reality of how this disease work.
since then I have been seeing a registered dietecian and she is a diabetes expert also, along with my doctor (who is also a diabetic) I have to have the mind set of I am in control and not the disease. My last hurdle for me is the exercise..........I hate to do it. However when I do I can see the results.
oh, well. My dietecian recommends for me 200 carbs per day, 50 per meal, and 25 per snack.
I am looking forward to reading and posting on this website, nice to have support.
I am also trying to incorporate my healthier eating for my husband also, and he is very resistant, but I tell him, if Im cooking you eat what I eat.
    thanks for listening.

    Hi and welcome!!!

Your dietician that is supposedly so much an expert on diabetes is not steering you in the right direction. 200 carbs per day is going to keep you on medication and make it virtually impossible to lose weight..............

I would be looking for a new doctor and a different dietician............They are putting you on a fast track to more medications and eventually insulin shots. Even the ADA doesn't recommend that many carbs per day and they are on the high side for what every doctor I have been to recommends..............

I can provide you with a lot more information if you would like to take this to the dietician and have him / her give you a REAL meal plan suited for diabetics.

    Read this article:
Does a low-carb diet really help control or even reverse type 2 diabetes? According to a study from Duke University, a very low-carb diet (20 grams or less a day) gave participants better blood sugar control and more effective weight loss than participants who followed a low-glycemic reduced calorie diet.
Eighty-four people with obesity and type 2 diabetes took part in the study. During the study, both groups also had the supportive benefit of group meetings, nutritional supplementation and an exercise program. After 6 months, the low-carb group had lower hemoglobin A1c results, lost more weight, and 95% were able to reduce or even totally eliminate their diabetes medications. The reduced calorie group did lose weight, and 62% of them were also able to reduce or eliminate their medications, but the low-carb diet group had better overall results.

"It's simple," says Eric Westman, MD, director of Duke's Lifestyle Medicine Program and lead author of the study. "If you cut out the carbohydrates, your blood sugar goes down, and you lose weight which lowers your blood sugar even further. It's a one-two punch."

The low-carb diet used in the study is very restrictive on carb intake, with participants eating under 20 grams of carbs a day. This may be difficult for many people to stick to, but as Dr. Westman says, "This is a therapeutic diet for people who are sick," says Westman. "These lifestyle approaches all have an intensive behavioral component. In our program, people come in every two weeks to get reinforcements and reminders. We've treated hundreds of patients this way now at Duke, and what we see clinically and in our research shows that it works."

Keep in mind that there is more to these results than just diet. Both groups also exercised regularly as well. Diet combined with exercise is the cornerstone of diabetes management. Before starting any diet program, please talk with your doctor, or healthcare provider.

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well today. My sugar was 100 this morning, It puzzles, me sometimes. I have been very good on my diet. So do not know what is up with it.

When I went to a dietician about 4 years ago, she told me to stick within 135 grams of carbs per day. I did that and it was good. I am only on oral meds, I do not know if it makes a difference with the type of meds you are on. I know that you need to combine all foods, carbs, protein, and fats in low amounts for it to be processed correctly. If you are eating all carbs with out those other things that is very bad for you. I do not think I could do a no carb diet, I like my breads to well. I do however try to eat whole wheat or mutligrain. I have not gotten used to the whole grain pastas yet.

I am heading to Orlando to camp for the weekend. I have some trouble with that, cause my husband does not eat healthy. He wants brats and onion rings for dinner! Okay, I will stop babling  Everyone stick with their plan and try to have a safe and healthy holiday!

Are you in much pain? Such a trooper you are!
My husband is gone away for 5 days and I don't know what to do with myself. It happens every time. I wander about not knowing what to do with myself, unless I am working of course. By the time I get used to being alone, and liking it, he's back. I have been eating a lot and tonight I even opened up a bottle of wine. (Haven't had any for 5 months) So I suppose if I didn't have him, maybe I would weigh 800 pounds and sleep under a tree at the park with a bottle of wine under my arm. Just kidding. (I hope)

Lioness: The important thing is your sugar did not go up on you! That is our main goal, the weight is nothing, Loosing it does help, when you stray like that, just get back on track and say I had a good time.

I have a trip planned at the end of the month and we always go to Dairy Queen in Paintsville KY and have Chilli dogs with cole slaw and of course a ice cream treat. I have been looking at the calories and fat from that and thinking how am I going to make this work. I told my sister-in-law we have to walk a lot! LOL!

Actually, I called my diabetic endocrinologist and talked to him about this, this morning. He said when you are going to eat higher carbs that are not the best for you, you should have more fat because it will keep your BS more stable, so I guess the fat in the hamburger balanced with those carbs from the white flou buns and the french fries to keep me stable.

Surprisingly, I don't have sweet cravings either, which is a VERY good thing for me!!!
