Good Morning Heeters, waving to cindy, hazel, lucy, bebe, wonderland, julie, yari, kathy, and all that follow...............
It is a dreary day here again in Ohio. Can feel it in my bones. The arthritis really kicks in when the weather is damp so I have really been hurting all morning and moving rather slowly.
Thank you Hazel and Bebe for your loving words of support and kindness.
Well going to get off here for now, DD is getting ready for school and we've then got to get going. BBL

Good Morning Ladies,
How many walkers do we have here? Cindy, how many miles do you walk a day and what is your goal to reach 1000.. Weeks, Months?
I'm a walker. My friend and I do 3 miles every morning and my hubby and I do 3-5 miles on Saturdays. My friend suggested that we try to do the Disney 1/2 marathon next March... We would have to do 16 minutes miles or better for the entire race. We are going to try the 5k on 4/25.
I need to tell you a little about myself for those who don't know me... Julie may be the only one.. I meet Julie when she first started the Daily Heet on MCC over a year or so ago.
Well here goes.......... I live in Florida on the east coast..I'm married to Dennis and I have always been a stay at home mom. We have 3 grown kids, Kim (28) who got married in July and is expecting in October, Denny (30) and single and Melanie (21) who is in 3rd year at the University of FLorida. I joined MCC because I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and it was a great tool for counting carbs and losing weight. I went from 180 to 140 but gained back 18 pounds last summer . Guess it was all the wedding planning and getting off track. I really need to get back to counting carbs..... Where is my willpower.

I started off with a banana this a.m. and some coffee. I finally got my pedometer from Avon yesterday and I now need to figure it out.
Hazel - you sound like you are doing great! Keep up the good work.
Debbie - I'm sorry about the arthritis. We are having some nice weather here today and I'm looking foward to walking on the track during my lunch break.
Bebe - are there lots of dogs in your area? Wow, what a pain, having to run from them.

A very good morning to all my HEETERS sisters. The sun is out for me this morning and I LOVE it! I am a sunshine kinda person and it makes me .
Bebe, you are an early bird. Too bad we didn't live closer together to walk together at 7:00 a.m. Do you walk on the beach? I used to when Iived on the Island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. It was such a beautiful time of the day with day break, quietness, me and my Lord Jesus walking along together. Enjoy your early morning walks for me too, okay?
Debbie, sorry to hear about your arthritis. I know some others who suffer from it and I am thankful I am not one of them. My mom used to run her hands under hot water first thing in the morning to get them going. With the warmer weather coming, do you think that would help you in your joints? You are a positive one and I know you will overcome your challenges. I still didn't make it to the gardening center but that is on my mind so will go there this weekend. I am sure there must be a window for planting season. I can't wait for harvesting my own home grown vegetables.
Suzi, how nice of you to introduce yourself. Nice to getting to knowing you better. I am sure your daughter's wedding went well and it was beautiful. I will soon be involved in wedding arrangements and plans for my daughter's wedding. She has scheduled it for January 9, 2010 and the chapel has been booked. She has her reception place set up too so now it is all the little details like shopping for her gown, ordering cake, makeup and hairstylist, favors and etc. Maybe you can give me some hints as to what made this chore easier for you. I can sympathize with you for that weight gain. I had gained less than 10 lbs during the holiday but it seems like it is taking forever to take it off again. So discouraging but it has been one of life's lessons for me, I hope. A second on the lips is forever on the hips. How true! But, don't give up. With all your walking and having a walking partner will help. Seems like you have good goals set and that sounds like fun. Good luck on your 5k that's coming up soon. You can do it.
Better get some early lunch as I want to check out the Silver Sneakers club at the gym today.
Breakfast was half a papaya, Yoplait light yogurt with some flax granola cereal, lunch will be Italian wedding soup with some unsalted saltines, dinner chicken pot pie (homemade). Found the recipe in my diabetic cookbook and it seems very simple to prepare and I do believe I have all the major ingredients so no need to run to the store.
That pineapple bread I fixed last night was a flop. I substituted Splenda granulated for the sugar and it tastes horrible plus, it deflated after getting cooled. So, guess that will be going in the trash today. I told myself I don't need those extra calories for something that don't taste good. Hooray for me! Patting myself on my back since that is the very first time I have said that to myself. :bigsmile:

Lucyfan!!!!! Good to hear from you, girl. I know you are so busy with school and studying and soon your finals. But, you gotta eat more than a banana for breakfast. Don't starve yourself as your body will start going the other way..... storing fat. We definitely don't need that. Eat, eat, drink your H2o and get your walking in. I know you are going to enjoy your new pedometer. I need to find mine and put it on too.

Hi all, How is everyone doing today?? Its beautiful here in NYC..and we are supposed to be hitting 70’s tomorrow woohoooo!!!!!....I packed my gym bag and will be hitting the gym this afternoon and after work for a spinning class.. I haven’t been doing to good this week and ate 592 calories this morning (I know I know) so I figured I need to hit the gym, no darn excuses and keep it really light throughout the day and the rest of the week….I need to show a loss!!!!

Good morning Heeters. Suzi- nice to meet you. I walk 5 miles 4 days a week and 4 miles 3 days a week. I'm going to bump the 4 mile days up to 5 miles in a few days. I don't have a time goal for my 1,000 miles. I just wanted to see how long it would take me. That Disney marathon will be a blast! How fast do you walk a mile now? I can do 14 minute miles but that is realy pushing it. 15-16 minute miles is my norm. I think I'm going to change my weigh in days to Sunday morning instead of Monday. I think if I decide to eat that birthday cake on Sunday I want a whole week to burn it off. No realy, I was thinking whay do I weigh in on Monday? Sunday morning makes more sence to me. Yari, I'm glad you are having nice weather. You go girl! I wish I could join you for that spinning class. Hazel, You bet your bippy someday we'll meet each other ! Has anyone heard from Julie? I am doing my 3 mile workout in a few minutes. I have no idea whats on the menu today. I had my fiber one cereal w/ 1% milk for breakfast. Lunch may be a muffin meatloaf, baby carrots w/ 1 tbs light ranch and a cup of light & fit yogurt. Dinner is up in the air. Snacks will be a fiber one bar, an apple, strawberries, maybe a banana. I eat fruit for my snacks or I just can't seem to eat them. I will drink 1 gallon of water and walk 5 miles today. Hazel- GREAT JOB ! I know you can drink that water! Avery seems to be feeling better. In wish you could all be here with me watching all the birds in my yard right now. I have 3 feeders and 2 hummingbird feeders and 2 bird baths. I have 100 + birds in my yard all day long. I them! Hazel, I think Adam should win American Idol too. He's my favorite. But , Allison is great for being only 16. Hey there girls! Just got back from the gym for my first Silver Sneakers class. It was 1/2 hour of cardio and 1/2 hour of strength. Nice class for us seniors. LOL. Imagine, I never thought I would be in this kind of class but here I am and I loved it! Of course, it looked like I may have been amongst the youngsters in that class. Ha. Ha. Someone told me I had to be 65 to be in that class. Little did they know.
Yari, it is good to see you. You are allowed those kinds of meals from time to time though you do work hard in those spinner classes too. You are young and you can burn off those calories in no time. Just enjoy yourself and focus on the healthy lifestyle. You can do it.
Cindy, I can only imagine having 100+ birds in your yard all at the same time. No greckos, I hope. I think those birds are such nuisances making such mess here in Dallas. And, I mean, mess! But I enjoy watching the humming birds, cardinals, blue jays, yes, even doves. I am sure you have more out there in the open country. It's so good when the young can bounce right back after being sick eh? Glad to know that Avery is feeling better. With a good nurse/mother like she has, she can't stay down long.

Hazel, Way to go on your Silver Sneakers class! I am so proud of you! :flowerforyou: We get doves, sparrows, these big black birds that have a bluish tint to their feathers and a black bird that has red & yellow on the tips of it's wings. We have a roadrunner that comes in our yard looking to eat a smaller bird. :grumble: We don't have cardinals or blue jays. The last 2 days a couple Orials have been fighting the hummingbirds at the feeders. I'm sure there are other birds that come too. What are Grecko's? We have these darn birds in town in Odessa that hang out in the trees outside Walmart and other stores and make such a loud noise at night. I have no idea what they are. They are loud and noisy though. Yes, I am so glad Avery is feeling better,. Thanks for the well wishes. Are you drinking your water? ok better run. Have a great afternoon. Cindy0

how the heeters this afternoon? for breakfast i had fish and mango,strange aint it.i didnt feel hungry and i had to eat something.the fish was from dinner and the mango dropped out of the tree while i was doing the laundry.i darnks lots of diet o and plenty of h20.this is my 2nd day without any alcohol and i wanna make it to a week atleast so pray for me.

hazel i wish we were living near by so we can walk together,i really wish i had a female here in nassau to work along with,it will help a whole lot.tried to get my neices involve but they dont feel the way i do about weight losing,so im so happy to have you guys.
sue welcome to our wonderful group,during the holidays i gained about 20lbs also,so lets do this together,cuz we can i feel it coming out of me,a thinner person.
cindy how do you manage with all thoes birds?do your cat look up the tree at them?and congrats on he miles walked,you are very dedicated,i really need to tighten up my lacens and get a stepping.glad to hear avery is doing much better.
lucy is that pediometer the one that counts calories from curves,i was surpose to order one of thoes,hope you get it working and let me us know how it goes.and like hazel says you need more than a banana for breakfast.
yari your such a sweet heart always going to the gym,i have a few machines here at home and dont use them much,but im getting there baby steps.
will be back later,dont know what dinner will be as yet,i need to get back into tha habit of planning,last few months that is what helped me with my weight lost.well the house is full of healthy stuff now and its cleaned from top to bottom.

Julie, those birds at Walmart ... if they are fairly large and black colored, they very well could be those greckos. They are a noisy bunch and if they stay there all day, the mess would be horrific! I hate those birds. Don't know what good they do except noise and mess.
Bebe, fish and mango? Now, that sounds just like island style eating. Yum yum. what kind of fish was it? reef and fried? Strange breakfast food, but if it works, then it is okay. I love mango but don't like paying the high price at the market. You know when you live in the islands and they fall off the tree like yours does, it is hard to pay big money at the market.
One of my goals for the month of April that is helping me, is planning my menu. I don't plan it ahead of time so far in advance, but if I can get it first thing in the morning, then my mind is on the right direction of healthy eating and I become more focused. Perhaps this could help you, Bebe. At least you have healthy food in the house to select from.
tonight I fixed a chicken pot pie from my diabetic cook book and it sure looks good. Approximately 256 calories for 1 cup. But I didn't use half and half cream and my salt is very minimal. Carbohydrate is 18g. since I didn't eat much all day, I think this will just round off the day for me.
time for dinner. TTFN. still struggling with the H2o. I am almost down with 6 glasses so maybe not too bad.

Hey Bebe so nice to hear from you! A mango falling from a tree in your yard? How cool ! I would love to have a yummy fruit tree. My cats love all the birds. The cats are strictly indoor kitties. They sit in the window sills and watch the birds all day. Yep Hazel I bet those birds are greckos. I think my dh told me the Midland officials wanted to kill those birds. I think they are too loud but kill them? I love all of God's creatures. I cannot see killing them even if they are a nuisance. TTFN- Cindy0

Well, our weather report says we are expecting much needed rain. But severe storm? Hope not. Going out tomorrow to Dallas Baptist University to Hymn Sing.
My diabetic recipe for chicken pot pie really turned out good. DH really liked it and taking some left overs for lunch tomorrow. Had some cling peaches for dessert. Yummy! Yes, doing my 8 glasses of H2o today. Hooray for me.

Boy this is an active group.. I 'm having a hard time keeping up and keeping track.
It was our 32 Anniversary today.. Hubby and I went to this local fine Restaurant on the Intercoastal waterway... I overate, but I did get some ideas about trying new food. Hubby's entree , braised short ribs came with Himalayan Red Rice. Good RICE.... It has this real nice nutty flavor... I had the mixed grill platter, of duck, lamb and filet mignon. with red cabbage and field greens salad... I brought most of the meat home.
I walked 4.5 miles today and did some yardwork , so I hope that worked off some of my calories.

sue you are right this is an active group,so imagine if you miss a day hey.and you did just fine on taking the rest of your meal home.for dinner we had prk chops,corn on cob,boiled cassava and mixed vegs.i did what you did sue ate a little bit of p chops,cuz i ate most of it while cooking :sad: :sad:
debbie you do come up with great quotes and how we love them so,cleaning the truck i dont love that one,its so hot here we have to clean our cars early in the am or late at pm,i know that will be a good wrk out.
cindy i can imagine your cat looking outside at the birdes,what a lovely sight..the mangoe tree is a great one,the kids at a near by sch stops each day for the fruits which helps alot,because cleaning up the fruits after a few days is rough becuz they drop so fast and rots even faster.
hazel the fish i had is similar to mackeral,its called jack.i know the breakfast sounds strange my BF turned up his nose also.i notice that protein fruit or vegs first thing in the am wrks great with my weight losing,but for some reason i hate breakfast.
its after 12 midnight and i have to get some shut eye,will be back .have a great one heeters

Cindy, yes, those birds are irritating. If not making noise, making a mess. i forget where it is, but my DH told me this one place piped in sounds of monkeys and the birds disappeared. More people should do that, huh? Some places here in Dallas have signs that they will periodically have loud noises to chase the birds away in case you happen to be in the area when that happens not to be alarmed. I have not heard that yet. I like the idea of the monkey sound best.0

Sue, congratulations on your 32nd wedding anniversary. How nice of your DH to take you to such a beautiful restaurant where you not only enjoyed good food, but had a beautiful view. I thought of the scene from CSI Miami on the Intercoastal waterway and how beautiful that is. You gals who are on the coast line are so lucky. I miss the ocean and beaches. Your meals sounds so dellicious. I love red meat but have not been eating much of eat since I started my healthy eating lifestyle. I fee much better for it.
But working in the garden, that should be burning lots of calories. I admire all of you who work in gardens cause I haven't started yet.
Bebe, I have not heard that word casava for a long time. It is some kind of root plant in a starch family? If I remember correctly, I did enjoy eating that in the islands. Yes, I can enjoy your kind of breakfast. Now you got me to thinking about trying to eat more protein for breakfast. Great idea. Thanks for the tip.

I just got back from my walk . My friend and I walked 3 miles in 43 minutes. That's a little faster than a 4mph pace. I think we should be ready for the 5k next Saturday.. Of course our walk this morning was level and the 5k on Saturday is up and over the causeway and back... My son is also entering the 5k but he'll be of course running it.
Were is everybody from? I live on the east coast of Florida, halfway between Jacksonville and Miami.

Well ladies, today is Friday. TGIF ! We've almost made it through another week. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today. We had a tornado watch and thunderstorm warnings up until midnight last night. Thank goodness we didn't get a storm. It rained a little but cleared up by 10pm . Dh and I were still able to go on our 2 mile walk. I will be doing my 5 miles today. Lets have a great day everyone! Drink that water- eat those veggies- get moving. I was reading on the American Heart association site that for every hour of exercise you add 2 hours to your life. Let's add some hours to our lives! ttfn- Cindy0

well today is the first day that i have journal my breakfast,whichi know helps me to keep track .and thinking back it helped me lost some weight last few months also,so i think i will be doing it again from now on,also i need to weigh myself more often that helped a lot also last time.

Bebe, keeping a food dairy journal, I believe, is really helping me to stay focused. Hope this helps you too. Also, Cindy has been good to remind me to drink my water and I agree that this too, is important.

Good Day Heeters, Hope your all doing well today. Well the weight is creeping back on slowly and I am still eating well. When I hurt myself a week ago I took some time off to heal and then the weather was not suitable for walking so getting back into my routine again. I am back on some medication to help with managing my diabetes so I hope with that said and taking it (though I hate to take medication), that things will turn around again. Sorry to whine as its not good for me to nor do I want to drag anyone else down. Just being Real with myself.
So many of you are walking and exercising like crazy and that is great. I see that Julie hasn't posted in a few days but with hubby ill and family members coming in to visit, she needs a little break and we have got to keep going and posting as she wouldn't want it any other way. Keep her and hubby in your prayers and I know when she can she'll be back to us.
WTG Hazel.....you are dong so great, and Cindy too!!!! You both are such an inspiration. Bebe and Lucy you are getting mindset and that is key to success. Dispite all that has been going on with me and family and such I am not giving into old habits and bad foods. I love eating better, and feeling good and I know in time I will get there, I want it too bad to fail.
Did anyone watch dr. phil today? He was saying that to yoyo diet is like a death sentence. That hit me hard, but made alot of sense. He also said their is no quick fix and you can't take a mix, or pill, or try some waste away creams and think you'll get fit and lose weight. You have to get all the components in order, mind, body, food and exercise, you can't do one without the other. He is right, and I think that is what our emphasis is here, is simply what we stand for: Healthy Eating and Exercise Team. Julie could not say it better and if we do just that we will 'Shape UP". So its just that simple..

Hi Debbie, Great to hear from you. I agree 100% on getting your mind, body ,food and exercise in order. You have to have the right mind set or no "diet" will ever work. I have lost 100 + pounds and gained it back twice because I had the wrong mind set. I thank God I finally get it. I know this time I will be sucessful in keeping it off. I also agree that losing the weight twice and gaining it back was terribly hard on my body in ways I may never know. I am so thankful my body is responding to the exercise and eating right this time too. I now realize that this is a lifetime thing for me. I will have to eat right and exercise the rest of my life or resign myself to being overweight and unhealthy. Nope- No sir- I pick the exercise and eating right! I you all and want the same for you too ! We can do this ! We are all beautiful, strong women ! We ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ttfn- Cindy0

Debbie, do not be discouraged. We are here to help you. I, too, struggled for such a long time with my diabetes condition and didn't know what to do. If I cut out food, my weight still didn't go down. If I ate too much, my weight would go up but I would feel better with my diabetes. But, my blood sugar was out of whack.
I am so glad I found this group and with the help of all on this board, I have come to realize what Dr. Phil is saying is right. I am trying new recipes found in Diabetic Recipe cookbook and find that both DH and I like the recipes. It keeps us in the right calorie, carbohydrate, fat level to also include the protein. But too it tastes good.
So with this said, I find that if I can control the kind of food I eat and drink my H2o plus the exercise, my blood sugar is better controlled with my medication and too, my weight seems to be going down. Woohoo. Try this and see if it helps you.
Trying to remind myself to take in dairy products as I normally do not. Balance is the key. Good luck.:flowerforyou: :bigsmile:0 -

DEBBIE~thank you for watching dr phil and sharing that info with us,i have so many diet pills i can open up a diet store.but i havent taken any in a long time due to them speeding up my heart,and just early this am i was thinking of taking some of the slim quick that are on my computer desk.and he is right about the mind set,if its not in the mind to do well,then we will fail and try another quick fix and some days i want a quick fix.today and everyday i look at myself in the bathroom mirrow and ask myself how did you get like this?i want to put a towel over it so bad just so i dont see me in it,to tell the truth if i was living by myself i would of done just that.so after i read your post ,i went and confronted the mirrow and told him that i will not ask that question again,instead i will do away with the mindset of the quick fixes and eat healthy,exercise most days,dont want to schedule myself cuz i will only break it,but RE MIND myself that this is the only body that i have and if i take care of it like i have being doing for the last 3dys now,i will see changes in my appearance.like you i have gained a few and stayed away from the group for a few dys,i told myself thoes sisters of yours are there for you so go back and from that day to now,i have been seeing progress in the way i think about losing weight.
hazel congrats to you,give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. yes i have lived in the bahamas all of my life ,hawaii i will love to visit some day.

THIS SOMETHING I READ ON ANOTHER FORUM AND I JUST WANT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU GUYS. During my study of Japanese culture there is one value that stuck out boldly and has inspired me. The word 努力 = doryoku is a word that is deeply ingrained in Japanese culture which means “hard work”. The Japanese equivalent to saying “good luck!” to someone is “work hard!” and the Japanese strongly feel that if you fail at something it’s simply because you didn’t work hard enough. It sounds very strict and unfair, but it is a concept I have come to embrace. They do not allow excuses to let you get away with giving up or failing. (That’s not to say failure is a bad thing, what makes or breaks a person is if they keep going at it or not.)0
