$248.00 SAYS YOU CANNOT EXPLAIN IT

Hey DAVE, you never responded to MY answer to your question. I'd be offended if I was one to get offended by that type of thing.
Yes...your response was a "probable" answer since you do not actually tell people to spurn the rest of the day on the computer. I was hoping for a legitimate response from someone who actually does tell the whiner to wait. Your response said it is a cop out. my words were not so blunt I guess yet I am the one under fire. I dont mind if the attackers stick with the real issue, but they can't.
My post was to the responders not to the whiners, I have given up trying to convince the whiners of anything. But to the responders, who are really just enabling the whiners, I was hoping they could explain their response. No one has because no one can.
Oh, see-- now he explains-- he wants people who actually DO it to explain it-- fine print gets me every time.
And see-- he's still ignoring me. :grumble:
you have a beautiful family0 -

Dave!! It will all be ok, tomorrow!!!:bigsmile:0

lol. I just got done reading this thread. Dave, you are in fact, entitled to your opinions. As is everyone here. I can't recall me ever telling anyone tomorrow is another day..except to myself. Easter for example, I was expecting myself to "fall of the wagon". I mean, seriously it's Easter...all the fooood....so I told myself "Tomorrow's another day" to simply help me realize that falling once won't kill me, but twice will. Why didn't I just say it like that? Because it's so much easier to say "Tomorrow's another day".
So my response as to why a responder would say "tomorrow's another day" is because it's easier and nicer to say it. It's not the truth. You shouldn't whine and complain. You should shut up, get up, and move. But if like me, you're "too nice" you don't want to tell someone that...even though you should. It's more or less to not hurt someone elses feelings.
Which makes me wonder, if by telling someone else "tomorrow's another day" you're actually hurting and not helping, why would you say it to someone? Simply to spare their feelings? Well, that's not fair to them. Which, is why I don't say it to others. I do, however tell it to myself...but you know what... Since I've started this, even on Easter... I have not gone over my calories, AND have excercised. So to say "tomorrow's another day" is not a fair nor just response.
I believe one says it to be nice, and it's not very nice to lie. ALTHOUGH, when you do use it as a "metaphor" you should be specific when doing so. Otherwise, people continue to binge because they think it's okay.
I doubt this answers your question Dave, but...there it is.

Just thought I'd point out that we're not all in the same time zone - when it's 12:56pm here (wherever your "here" is) it may not be elsewhere.0

very true and I accounted for that

Ahem! (rolls up her sleeves and grabs a nearby big stick.) Once again, it isn't what you say but how you say it. Or, in this case not what you ask but how you ask it. So, there can be no discourse unless the rules are your rules? And your rules don't seem to apply to everyone equally. You can use a scarastic, jeering insulting tone, but when someone like jackeh asks you a direct question about your whining about everyone else whining, you are insulted and invite her to take her toys and leave your sandbox! Your "tude" hangs out a mile.
So, heres a suggestion - if you care about the people who "slipped or fell off the wagon or were tempted by the chocolate Easter Bunny." tnen post on those threads. That's what Banks does. If what you really want to do is vent your spleen, well, you're on the right path. You've got some good information, Dave, but if you want to prompt discourse instead of debate, you are going about it the wrong way.0 -
I don't know if someone explained it, but I'd like to take a crack at it.
it feels better to start over after some sleep. and 'tomorrow' is a longer wait than 'tonight.'

once more and again and again-
now you are not even trying to answer the simple question
now you are taking the attack even further and like others, are inventing words that I never came close to speaking and attributing the invented words to me, You think that is fair? It isn't.
If you "perceive" your invented words as coming from me, say that...don't blame me for what I did not say.
if you can't answer the question, that's ok...but attacking me is absurd. Cease.0 -

it feels better to start over after some sleep. and 'tomorrow' is a longer wait than 'tonight.'
But I bet you it would feel EVEN BETTER to start NOW instead of tomorrow. So you make a mistake, move on, and do something about it... now not tomorrow.
I believe the original question wanted to know WHY we respond with "tomorrow's another day". (not a direct quote so I could be wrong)... but as in my previous response, we say it because it's nice. We say it because we want to try to be encouraging, and what sounds more encouraging....
"You messed up, now go work your butt off so you don't screw up again."
or
"It's okay...tomorrow's another day...just try again, you'll get it"
Well, of course the second is so much nicer...but sometimes the truth hurts. So why we say it... to be nice, why we don't say what we should... we don't want to be mean or discouraging. See my other response to this for more detail. I just hope you're getting the chance to read Dave, I want to know if this answers your question.
If it does, keep your money. I don't want it. lol

if I may add two more cents -- (which brings your bill, Dave, now down to $247.96)
Ahem-- read the original post again-- he is not whining. He is asking a simple question. Why do we enable each other? Why do we say it's okay, when the best advice IS stop moping and do something about it?
He didn't attack. He didn't whine. He asked a question why we don't better counsel one another.
He's encouraging us all to better encourage each others with wiser, better responses that DON'T coddle those who fell or are falling off the wagon to stay off just a little bit longer before they get back up.
Get back up and on now, don't wait-- that's good advice, and he simply asked why don't so many here give that advice. Why are we namby-pamby in our replies?
So, to tell him to suck it up and call him a whiner is off base.
(do I get any monetary bonus for my defense, Dave?)0 -

the only thing that I can figure out as to why "some" did not see what you Marla saw, which is what I meant, is that they have issues with either me or theywant to do the same delay game that another poster mentioned.
being"nice" and telling the poster to wait until tomorrow is enabling bad behaviour.,... we are adults not children who need any kind of encouragement. For many overweight people, the "tomorrow" attitude is why they are here...it is why I came here, The tomorrows are running out.
Marla-

BTW people.......I didn't see Dave putting anyone down or insulting or whining. He was basically saying that if you make a mistake it doesn't mean you should continue to make that mistake and make things worse by saying...oh well, today's already shot instead we'll start tomorrow. Before you know it you're 800 calories or more over instead of 400 calories over. Basically...so you made a mistake move on and do something about it. It's not too late. You can get up and work it off and/or at least make better choices for the rest of the day. And I'm going to shorten my response now cuz these mean bosses of mine are making me go to a meeting :grumble:

I am amazed that we have spent SIX pages of comments on Dave's post that for all intents and purposes put it out there that we do need to take responsibility for our own actions because WE are the ones that pay for our indiscretions.
That said, my husband and I were trying to figure out how many calories were burned reading this post and how many more calories were burned by the blood pressures that seemed to have gone up a bit in this post. Not to mention, how many calories we could have all burned getting away from the computer.

It is twue  I do agree with Dave but it doesn't make me or him right. It's my opinion. And your opinion is your opinion. And I respect your right to your opinion. Who are any of us to say who's right and who's wrong? We are all entitled to our own opinions and we are all entitled to post our imput in these threads. And we all should respect each other's opinion. We don't have to agree with it, but respect it as, their opinion. :flowerforyou:
I feel Dave's words were taken wrong. But again...that is my opinion. I felt motivated by his post. I felt that he was saying...so you screwed up and ate an extra piece of pizza...doesn't mean you should continue to make your day worse it means either make better choices for the rest of the day or get up and work it off. Don't wait til tomorrow to make it better. Get up and do it. I took it as a kick in the *kitten*. But that is the kind of motivation I need. If someone tells me tomorrow's another day, I may have to add a beer with my pizza, then a piece of cake for desert, and a glass of milk to go with it. Now instead of just that piece of pizza, I am over by beer, cake, and milk too And feeling worse about myself than I already am. :grumble: Now if I ate all of that and went to bed and THEN woke up regretting what I did, I feel it is good to say.....Hey, you know what? I screwed up yesterday but it is a new day and I will not do it again today. I will not throw away my hard work. I will make better choices. :drinker:
Because in the past, I have done bad a day or two and then fell into a month or two or more long funk and ended up throwing all my progress away. Like I just gave up. It was then that I finally got to the point where I decided I would not do that anymore. And even then, I still have had moments that I ate things I shouldn't have, but I now get up and work it off or just make sure I make up for it the rest of the day. So at that point, it is no longer something I shouldn't have eaten. Because I made myself earn it. I worked for it and it was within my range.
If I want to have a few beers I make myself workout for an hour first...cuz that's how I roll :smokin:
(j/k...well kind of :smokin: )
and that is my two cents contribution (I think I've posted 3 or 4 times so that's like 8 cents I've added to this pot) :bigsmile:0 -
After scannng everyone's posts and counter-posts all I can think of is that at least the thread took everyone's mind off EATING for a while!!!LOL
Seriously, the ship has sailed, the horse has left the barn, the thread has been run into the ground....though that may be an empirical impossibility!!
And Dave, and everyone else is entitled to their opinion.0 -
Fix it now. I agree Dave. Thanks for thinking along the same lines.0
-
no, kellch-- that's where you're wrong-- if I agree with you, you're right-- if I agree with Dave, he's right-- if I disagree with you all, I'm right.
