Very sweet post and thank you for your support. But how cool is it to see the transformation of your MFP friends from posting maybe no pic at all, to a face pic, to an upper half pic to entire body. It is a beautiful thing to see the self confidence grow and I love how you are trying to instill that in everyone....Great job!!! Very kind and sweet.0

That's a very sweet post, but one of the reasons some people just have head shots - aside from embarrassment - is that it's hard to take a full body picture of ourselves without some assistance (someone to hold the camera). Just throwing that out there.
Oh, and my profile picture is just of my face because I am confident about my body and the work I put into getting it healthy, but I am not confident about my face so forcing myself to stare at it is sort of therapeutic for me (yes, I am strange).
Not strange... but just throwing this out there, you're gorgeous!0 -

DITTO THAT...Taking a pic of myself into a mirror isn't exactly my cup of tea.0 -
I think it's funny a bit creepy when people's pictures are just their ripped torso...or back..or arm, but always headless. I've noticed these are also the people who like to give unwarranted advice...just sayin'!0

Most of my MFP photos are face shots - primarily because I'm taking them myself and my arm only extends so far out in front of me. It never occurred to me that anyone would see that as anything other than an image / representation of who I am. I update them periodically because how I look is changing and it seems appropriate to keep pace with that.
I have never thought 'low self-esteem' or 'bad body-image' from a head shot. It's funny though, because when I see the shots of people showing off ripped abs, or are stripped down to their underwear, I see them as vanity shots and a sign of an inflated ego.
It's interesting and informative to get another perspective on the question of how we represent ourselves on MFP. Thanks for that.0 -
Good post OP, good intentions.
I wouldn't worry about anyone saying anything negative as there will always be people who disagree. I've had people disagree with me when i've stated scientific fact on here against their random thoughts so something as open as this will have people trying to take a pop.0 -

I see that all the time and the reason why i did it was because i want people to see the change in my body itself. For clarification that i was not being self concious i even posted a pic of me with my head right after a shower.0 -
Just an interesting point....if you ask children to draw a picture of themselves, you will notice a big difference in the pictures.
The girls will usually draw a head shot style portrait, but the boys will usually draw not only a full body shot, but often include other things, like representations of their interests, such as being dressed in cleats with a soccer ball, or on a skate board.
Even from a young age, it is apparent that girls are influenced to believe their value is (somewhat) based on their looks - hair, makeup, etc. and boys, their physical prowess.
Not saying this is true of everyone, but it could also lend itself to this topic...I have noticed that generally it is the females who post head shots, and guys, full body.
OP - when I read your original post, my thought was how sweet you are. You don't see that kind of sincere support very often. Thank you.0 -

This is very interesting - and so true now that I think about it!

Thank you =D I like seeing the positive support when i never meant it for any underlying or bad reason. Just trying to help.0 -
This is a ploy to see boobies. Do not do it
 I like it
Lol! I dont think the above was negative, just funny! I usually have a headless body shot cause I like feeling anonymous, so I guess I'm the opposite. Although these days I'm getting bigger, not smaller....
Me too, due 9/6 but showing already! =D0 -
You said that very well! especially for a guy, I'm kinda shocked0

Growing up with 5 sisters and no brothers did give me a higher appreciation for women lol, thanks for the compliment =D0 -

Brian001 I think your post was very sweet and encouraging. I did take some before shots which I will post when I am ready to share my success story. For now I use my daughter's picture because she is my #1 motivation to be healthy.
I would like to encourage those who have NO profile picture at all to find something to represent them - whether it's a head shot, body shot, your eyeball, your nose, your kids, your dog, nature, your car - something that is part of you and what is important or motivating or the "essence" of you.
I like the relative anonymity of MFP (I have deliberately chosen only 2 RL friends to be MFPeeps), but I still like to see SOMETHING that show me a little of you!0 -

Ditto that. :blushing:0 -

It never was nor never would be. I would not have posted that long of a post just for that. Would appreciate if the negativity would be brought down when all i have been was positive to all.
I agree with you. I don't know why people have to be negative. It's not like you are making fun of the head shot phenomenon!! You are encouraging women to own up to their bodies. I got the impression that you were saying that this is a SAFE place to be true because you are here to support us. People need to chill the frack out!!!0 -
<--- not of my head.0

Ummmm.... most photos of people are of their face. I don't get why this is a sign of being uncomfortable with your body. I could post a pic of my *kitten* but no one would know who the hell I was
Personally I prefer to see someone's face. That's the bit I talk to in real life so why would I talk to someone's abs online?
OP: I know you mean well but I really don't think it means someone is uncomfortable with their body if they post a head shot. Not for most people anyway. Head shots are just the norm
Agreed!0 -
My whole body is there...along with my horse, Pipper. He's also a little chubby. :laugh:0

I just love my picture.. That's why I'm using it! I do have other pics up too though!0

Did anyone else read, "To all the ladies out there who have photos solely of your h" before you clicked the link mentally add a different "h-word" than head?
I was hoping it would be "To all the ladies out there who have photos solely of your hoo-has."0 -
I have at least 1 body shot (used to have two but might have removed one can't remember) on here, I just set my main picture as my face a) because it's true I don't like showing off my body, but I like my face, b) I can't stretch my arms far enough or have a side tall enough to stand a camera with a timer on for a body shot, and c) my face does show my weight loss progress, I've gone from having a baby face to having some visible cheekbones
OP I appreciate you're post (nice to see you think about people ) but whilst I don't mind having body shots up for people to see on my profile, I prefer to just show off my face publicly for the time being
Edit: There are two, I checked, well as full body shot as other people have taken of me when I've been out xD0 -
I have not one body picture that I can think of in the last few years that I took myself. My sister managed to get one on new years eve but only becuase I was buzzed. Other than that there are two. One that I allowed a good friend of mine to take at the beginning of my journey and one I let my neice take because she begged me. I have no Idea where any of the pictures are nor do I have any interest in finding out at this point. As I loose weight I am sure I will look for them so that I can compare but for now they will remain archived with the rest. :noway:0

Hmm, my profile pic is of a pastel painting I did that I rather liked. It's not the best one I've ever done, but still, something about it is appealing to me. It didn't actually occur to me to find a picture of myself, either head or full body, which is weird because I have pictures of myself on other things so it's not like I'm bothered much by it, and it is a weight loss site so it would make sense. But I like this one for now.0

I have posted full-length pics as well as face shots. While I'm not shy or ashamed of my body, neither am I here to show it off every time I make a comment. I'd much rather show you my potted plant. (That's not a euphemism.)0
