Dr Hyman's #1 Weight Loss Tip: Don't Drink Your Calories!
Soda, fruit juice, alcohol, and those mega-lattes from Starbucks only serve to poison your metabolism. High-caloric beverages like these require virtually no energy to be metabolized. The sugar goes right into your cells and your insulin and blood sugar levels go for a roller coaster ride.
And if you think diet sodas or other low- or no-calorie beverages are the answer, think again! Research has shown that even artificial sweeteners have an impact on your insulin levels. In fact, the very thought of something sweet triggers an insulin response in your body. So you are doing yourself no favors by relying on diet drinks. Get rid of them too.
What should you drink instead? Water. It's what your body is made of, most of us don't get enough, and when you are chronically dehydrated it impacts your biology at the root. Your detox system shifts out of balance and weight gain can result.
You can also have a little green tea which is filled with healthy catechins that have been shown to help stabilize blood sugar.
