Set small goals, looking at the big picture can be too overwhelming.

Dr Hyman's #1 Weight Loss Tip: Don't Drink Your Calories!

Soda, fruit juice, alcohol, and those mega-lattes from Starbucks only serve to poison your metabolism. High-caloric beverages like these require virtually no energy to be metabolized. The sugar goes right into your cells and your insulin and blood sugar levels go for a roller coaster ride.

And if you think diet sodas or other low- or no-calorie beverages are the answer, think again! Research has shown that even artificial sweeteners have an impact on your insulin levels. In fact, the very thought of something sweet triggers an insulin response in your body. So you are doing yourself no favors by relying on diet drinks. Get rid of them too.

What should you drink instead? Water. It's what your body is made of, most of us don't get enough, and when you are chronically dehydrated it impacts your biology at the root. Your detox system shifts out of balance and weight gain can result.

You can also have a little green tea which is filled with healthy catechins that have been shown to help stabilize blood sugar.

    Burn more than you eat.

All dieting would cease to exist if everyone could just follow this principle....

    Instead of using the lift:
    walk up one floor,
    walk down two floors.

Buy a food scale. You're probably underestimating what you're actually eating.

Control your portions and eat more veggies. (ok, so that is 2) Personally I was shocked to learn that 2 ounces of pasta is a single serving. Really? Wow!

No diet will ever be enough if you don't get off the couch.

if you fall off the wagon, get back on as fast as possible, so it doesn't spiral from one meal to one week to one month to one year.

and also, by resisting temptation you build up your tolerance to temptations, but the minute you give in your resistance to tempatation goes back down to 0. By temptation I am not talking about planned cheats, but more of surprises that you weren't expecting to eat when you started your day.

Just because it's a "serving" you don't have to HAVE a serving. For instance If a serving is 3 Cookies... you CAN have just one!

GET UP AND MOVE! I call my diet "get off the couch and pick up something heavy".
