I hope you do report it. He is probably scaring other women away. You handled it VERY well. I like the way you looked him in the eye. Awesome!

All the report comments are great and all but you never know how the gym is , most would do something about it but on some places they probably wouldn't care because they might agree . Next time you see point him out and what you did to a staff member tell them you were scared and felt threatened by what he said that he might hurt you. They will take a threat of violence a bit more seriously than a douche being a douche

I would have reported him, it's NOT borderline harassment like someone mentioned earlier, IT IS HARASSMENT. It is sexual harassment and it should not be tolerated at your gym. If they don't have a policy there they should. I'd check to see what it was so that the next time he harasses you - you can say take it up with the manager, his/her name is_________. I know they'll be happy to help you.

Oh wow! That post just pissed me off!!! I'm glad you told him off, b/c I certainly would have cussed his a@@ out! And I know how vindictive I can be, I would make it a point to be strength training every time he's in the gym, and then give him that "What?! I dare you to say something look!" Hmph!!!

I can totally sympathize. When I was in high school and college I was a competition weight lifter. (YES REALLY! There are girls who do that!) I also threw discus and shot put. In order to compete obviously I would have to train. It was appalling how many times I heard that I needed to find a 'girl's' sport or asked if I needed 'help' getting those big weights off the bar. I am proud to say that I could squat, bench, and dead lift more than most of the guys in my school ( squat 290, bench 195, and dead lift 230, also clean and jerk 200) I worked out like crazy and EARNED my place on the team in both high school and college. When jerks like this would talk to me I would just tell them to keep it for the competition where I would blow them away. I recently started going back to weight training and it is kicking my butt! I can't believe how much my muscles have atrophied but I'm back in there and ready to kick butt!

mbership, and this discouraged me.. I just want to be thinner, not be harassed by every person on the planet. -hides-

Don't you dare use this as an excuse to not go. Use it. Remember that people like this guy who insulted the OP are the problem not you. They are the ones so full of nastiness that it spills out of their mouth to complete strangers.

i agree don't let this stop you from going. this kind of thing doesn't happen all the time. the scarest part of going to the gym is getting into a routine that works for you. the machines can be scary but the staff are alway ready to help and exsplain even if you need to ask a few times. please go and see for your self. on the brighterside if you take classes their ruled by women and once you befriend the gale and instructors. you will never have to deal with people like that.
I won a year gym me

If that's the case, time to find a new gym.

Our "Y" is very supportive. As others are saying, the most appropriate way to deal with this is through the staff. I am about a month and a half into my regimen and have not even gotten over to the free weight section yet. If you were doing free weights... You are actually doing more than 35 lbs anyway... the bar itself weighs 45 lbs.

F**king Mysogynistic Neanderthal. I feel sorry for whoever his SO might be. Then again with attitude like that he's probably compensating for a lack of something. Good job for standing up for yourself in the face of such idiocy! Apes like that give the rest of us a bad name.

Also, as a female, you typically want to tone rather than bulk anyway. To lose weight without toning is not a good idea. Everybody needs weight training whether it is for bulking or toning. With a toning regimen, you never go to very heavy weights (though some women like to do that and that is fine)... My wife does a toning regimen which is light weights with high reps. It does her a lot of good. Keep doing what you are doing, report this guy... He has the problem, you don't.

no, not even most of them.....but the ones that are, are pretty spectacular. Like this guy at the gym. Probably wonders why he doesn't have a woman at home.....
