I'm thinking of getting a casual kilt for weekend wear. Church, dinners out, summer happenings. My old friend Kase wore one to the company Xmas party last year and totally pulled it off.

So what's the MFP gang's verdict? Interesting kooky fun - or "Mark of a *kitten*/attention *kitten*"?

I do have a pretty decent pair of sticks, if that makes any diff.

Be honest, I can take it.

my dad wears his family kilt at special events

I say go for it. Be proud of your heritage and you'll meet a lot of new people that way too. Don't worry about what all the guys say. I see a few guys every year wearing them and not for any reason but they wanted too.

I  Kilts! Traditional tartan or modern utility kilt... doesn't matter. The only thing that matter is if you've got the legs, and the length is right. Right in the middle of the kneecap. If it's too long or too short... you're a guy in a skirt.

If you can claim any kind if Scottish heritage and wear a properly tailored kilt in your clan tartan, it's not only cool, it's as sexy as hell.

Under any other circumstances, you're just a man in a skirt.
That's the best sartorial advice you will receive on this subject. You have all the information you need to make your decision.

Nice, thanks. I have a pretty solid vocab, but I had to look that one up.

    sar·to·ri·al   /sɑrˈtɔriəl, -ˈtoʊr-/
    adjective
    1. of or pertaining to tailors or their trade: sartorial workmanship.
    2. of or pertaining to clothing or style or manner of dress: sartorial splendor.

I am Scottish living on the West Coast of Scotland so it has to be a yes!! Nothing better than a man in a kilt, but..... you have to have the legs to carry it off!!! Love the casual kilt look best, think that is MUCH sexier than the dressier look - think blokes walking around at Highland Games (the local games in my neck of the woods on the West Coast of Scotland I mean)

Even here (Scotland) it tends to be only special occasions and sporting events! Probably half of the men I know have one, but they don't get worn out very often (if I had something that expensive and 'specialist' to clean, i'd probably not wear it much either  ).

Kilts are cool but I have no idea when it is exceptable to wear one.

1 fashion tip: dont wear a white one after Labor Day.

I need a photo of you in the kilt to make a decision.... Is that you in your profile pic? Then I'd say, yes.
BUT I have never seen a man in a kilt except in parades. I think they are awesome.
OTOH, I can't imagine a guy flipping up his kilt for a "quickie".... ummm, OK TMI...

The only time it is considered acceptable is if you are Scottish, other than that it is considered a no-no.

I think kilts are awesome! Traditional and the above ^^ However if your not of heritage, I'd wear the above kilt out for fun like concerts, certain bars, chillin with friends. A lot of guys from the celtic and or hardcore music scene wear kilts. It can be pretty sexy and manly I say ;)

I'm of casual and undetermined heritage. My family is from eastern virginia, one of the first areas in the states to be colonized, and my father's family has been here a long time and as far as I know that lineage is lost. I have heard mention among the old folks that the family is Scots-Irish, but I cannot draw a direct line to any immigrant ancestor. I don't claim "Scottish descent" because I'm honestly not sure and it would be presumptuous or even dishonest to make that claim.

My mother's family name also claims Scotch-Irish without naming an immigrant. We're all balding, lots of body hair, built like dump trucks, and many are fair with freckles and reddish blonde hair. Interesting stuff. If we're not scotch or irish we certainly should've been.

Wear it for fun dude! Rock that kilt! Take it out for a night on the town, kilts like beer! :drinker: LOL It’s not like you are going to wear it every day, it’s not like your being disrespectful, have fun and look awesome!
