42, never had kids or a husband, but did revert to type and get a cat several years ago. I agree with aulove, my only regret is my parents don't get to spoil grandchildren but they seem resigned to the fact.

Have lots of weight to lose so would welcome support from anybody like minded!

I'm 38, living a fantastic life with an awesome hubby and no human kids by choice - we have two furry children though! Do I count? :)

More than happy to have like-minded friends!!

I'm only 32 (soon to be 33...) and will never have kids - by choice! You are definitely not alone out there. For my husband ad I, it's purely selfish - we love our life the way it is. :) I don't personally have anything against children, I just don't choose to have them myself. Too much work! :)

We do, however, have a furry child. Her name is Tattoo, and she is the best cat ever. :)
  • I'll be 39 this summer, getting married in June.No kids, neither does he. We are kid less
  • 41 and no kids. I was just told on yesterday that I need to have kids for a tax break.

I've been saying I don't want kids since I was about 14. Nobody believed me then but they are starting to now that I am 40!

Same here, in fact I still sometimes get told 'you'll change your mind one day'

Nice to see so many of us on here. I've always been made to feel weird because I've never wanted kids. One place I used to work I heard a rumour that I couldn't have kids and everyone should not mention kids to me because it would upset me. When I asked someone where this rumour started I was told 'We just assumed you couldn't because you don't have any'

Oh, I can SOOO relate to that! It's amazing how much misplaced sympathy I get. Usually I come back with, "I tried to get a tubal when I was 18 but they made me wait until I was 27 - and it was STILL a fight!" :)

I relate very well too... I've always known I didn't want kids - ever since I was a kid! It used to infuriate me that almost everyone insisted that I would have kids regardless of how much I said I didn't want them... Apparently I had NO IDEA what I really wanted and they all knew so much better! I often think about how much I'd love to (not so subtly) remind them all with a firm 'I told you so!'

I actually DO have 4 cats...so can you say CRAZY CAT LADY!?!? I don't care, call me crazy. Life is good - I am blessed. I should also add that I have a step-daughter from a previous marriage and we are still very close. So I can relate to step-moms, for sure.

Just so everyone knows, I never really wanted to have kids. People kept telling me that I would change my mind or that I would be missing out but none of that has applied to me. I have no regrets. Hubby and I love life the way it is. Someone mentioned that their pet is not a substitute for a child. I agree with that, except my "kids" think I'm their Mama and I'm happy to oblige.

    So happy to meet everyone!

LOL! When i met my husband i was a crazy cat lady in my mid 20s. 3 cats! Although i am 40 and a mom to a 6 yr old girl and I'd like to have another, I totally understand. Children definitely change everything. There are way tooo many people out there having children who have NO business doing it.
I am still a mom to 4 legged friends - 3 cats and one gigantic dog.

I'm 43 with no kids! I've actually been told I'm selfish for not having any.

Funny. I never complain about my kids keeping me awake all night or having bouts of the stomach flu.

The dogs I've had have been much easier to potty train, from what I hear.

I am not in the 40's yet.. on the downward slope. I'll be 37 next week.
I'd love to have kids...but doesn't seem to be in Gods plans for me.
No man worthy of raising my children YET!
ALL my friends are married with kids...I am the lone singleton...

Hi everyone! I just turned 37 & my husband & I just are starting to discuss the fact that we are going to live our lives childfree. We actually did try to get pregnant for a number of years, but more because of the fact that it is what "you are supposed to do". All the comments; "The two of you will be such great parents", etc... :grumble:

Well, we never got pregnant, went for tests...all healthy. We were never that concerned or overly motivated, but everyone else kept saying, "You are not getting any younger"...gee thanks! LOL So I went to see a specialist about IVF, etc. & when I walked out of that appt it hit me like a ton of bricks...I don't TRULY want this. We had a long talk & realized how happy we are with our life as it is.

I am so happy that I found this thread because many times you can feel like this is a rare decision & family & friends can make the choice to remain childfree even more difficult.

Feel free to add me, I love all the support on MFP! :flowerforyou:

I'm 42, 20 years married and have no kids. Happy to be an aunt to 4 but don't want any of my own. Have 2 cats and 1 dog. Feel free to add me.

My mother-in-law didn't speak to me for 8 years when she found out we didn't want kids. She seems to have accepted it now though.

Ha! Yeah, because that child credit will COMPLETELY offset the cost of raising them. (Yes, heavy on the sarcasm there.) We childfree people need to stick together! Far too many people have kids just because they think they're supposed to - not because they truly want them. It's far too big a commitment to enter into lightly.

    I love this topic!!
I am going to be 41 in May and my husband and I don't have and do not want any kids. We will be married 20 years next year.
We have two furry kids and even though one is a sick little guy that cost us a bunch of money in the last 6 months.... it's still cheaper than putting a kid thru college.
Maybe it's selfish.... but oh well. My husband and I like our lives the way it is.... travel, freedom to do what we want when we want. :drinker:
Feel free to add me as a friend. :flowerforyou:

    Lucky you! I'm really jealous!

I knew since I was a kid I didn't want kids, I asked for a tubal every year from my GYN, and she kept saying 'you're too young' Now I'm in my later 30s and STILL DON'T WANT THEM! I'm going to demand a tubal this year. gah! why can guys get snipped at 18 but women can't?

    kids=never had 'em, never will.

I can relate too. I wanted to finally get off of birth control.... 20 years is a long time on the pill!! I didn't get a tubal, but I did have Endometrial Ablation done in 2010.... around the same time my hubby got snipped so no babies for us!
If your GYN won't do it for you, find a new one!

42, soon to be 43, and married 16 years this year with no kids but furry 4-legged ones (currently 2 dogs and 1 cat). I answer "childless by choice" when people ask me if I have kids. This answer is often followed by "but you'd be such great parents!" to which I answer "Well, I think to be a great parent you should actually WANT kids!"
