Hi to everyone! I just got back from physio and apparently I am not ready for exercise yet. I will continue with the stretches that she prescribed a couple of weeks ago. It is getting better, i guess, but so slow. I have my sheets hanging outside today but will need some help getting them back on the bed. I think I can manage Neil's bed but our bed is in our old water bed frame and I have to lift it out a bit to put the sheets on. I HATE asking for help. I want to see if I can find a tool to cut the suckers around my chokecherry trees and do it without bending. I am sure I have seen such a thing but have no idea where. I will look through the Lee Valley catalogue and if they don't have it likely no one does. I am also thinking about getting on my butt to try to weed a bit of my front shrub bed. I hate driving up and seeing it look like no one cares about it.
We are having a glorious summer day, really the first one this year. I hope it is the start of a trend. I have to go take a look at my garden and see if the seeds my kids planted have turned into shoots. After typing that I couldn't wait, the lettuce is up but nothing else yet. I didn't watch and they may have planted stuff a little deep. I would like to pick up some tomatoes tomorrow, better late than never!
Ohoh, I should have taken some notes to remember what I wanted to comment on!! Memory of a flea!
Marie -- I am glad the tests go well.
Phoebe -- So sorry that your back is not getting better. Good luck at the chiropractor.
Jeffrey -- Some herbs, such as basil, don't do as well drying but I don't think it is impossible. I know some people prefer to freeze them from fresh. I have never done it but I think that they chop them up and freeze them in water in an ice cube tray. Take a look on recipezaar.com and there is likely information about it. I will look tonight to see what I can find.
elli -- As always you make me tired just reading about all you do! I don't think you need to worry about the gym. Glad you popped in!
Sandy-- Woohoo!! Good job on your loss. You are doing great!
Everyone else -- hope you are having a great weekend.
Take care and keep smiling. Time to hit the ice pack!
Gayla0 -
Good morning Gayla, Glad you are feeling a wee bit better. Jerry killed those pesky horn worm all day yesterday. they were the biggest tomatoes worms I have ever seen. I think he killed aboyt 6 of them. I kind of hate to go out and see what they did overnight. They just about demoblish one plant.and have started on some more. We never been invaded like this before. And to think they turn into beautiful butterflies.Wonderful morning here in Texas. Sun is shinning gonna get hot tho.
Ellen, Our grass is sure growing after all the rain we got the other day.
Chowhound, Hope you husband is doing fine and your sister. I think of your little family a lot.
Big G--How is sunny California.
Bobbiecat and Jake,,Where are you guys at now. Hope to see some pretty pictures of your trip.
Eli, Glad to hear from you.And I see you are as busy as ever. How is your farm house coming along. I have seen some lovely ones on our travels thru out the years. They had a big picture of one in the Lab where I went to get blood work and it remined me of your lovely farm house.
Jeffrey, How is the all american boy doing this morning. You seems to keep yourself so busy.
Phoebe I guess you and Jim are on the road again.
I have no plans today, just rest and go out and see what damage those horn worms have done.
See you all later, Marie0 -
Good Morning,
Was busy with my granddaughter yesterday, we went to the pool for most of the day. She was in the water, I was working on my tan. She spent the night and she is still sleeping, so I must have worn her out.
Glad your test went well Marie, let's hope the next surgery goes easy on you. I can't wait to see a picture of you on your bike pedaling along the street.
Gayla, be sure to listen to your doctor and take it easy on your back. Like you I do not like to ask people for help, but when it for your health we have to bend.
Elli, glad you checked in, I was starting to worry. The house sounds like it is making great progress.
It should be done and decorated by the time your son comes home.
Barbie and Jake, stay safe and drive careful. :flowerforyou:
Phobe, glad you also checked in. You are already gone but we miss you when you aren't here.
You will love the Wii Active if you want to exercise and have fun. There are a lot of lunges and squats and the resistance band really works your arms, back and shoulders. There is tennis, inline skating and boxing which is really fun but sometimes hard. It gives a total workout so I love it.
BGamma, wheeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeee are youuuuuuuuuuuu? Don't you love us anymore?
Jeffrey, always busy good for you. I know nothing about canning, or anything else to do with cooking so I can't help you at all. We had a beautiful day yesterday and back to rain today. Our weather has been awful, when is summer coming?
Beth, hope you and your buddies are well and safe. Write when you get a chance.
Chowhound, thanks for the kind words. It seems like it is taking forever but it is paying off, so one day at a time is my correct motto.
My daughter and her family will be coming from downtown Chicago this morning so I better get the house organized and some cots set up for the two grandsons. Would also like to get some exercise in before they get here so I better get moving.
Have a fun and happy day.

Been a slow Sat. around here today. Everybody out doing there own thing. It is hot here and we are staying in. Been looking at Devil Food cakes recpes to make for Father Day. that will be next weekend. It just been a lazy day. Peaceful and nice. I had a lean crisine pizza for supper. Don't know what jerry is going to have. We just got back from our walk. I do plan on doing a lot more walking when i get thru with my legs. Love ya!! Marie0
-
Good evening, all.
Just got back from a 60th anniversary, very nice. Did not overeat either which is a bonus. We were about 2.5 hours down the valley; the cherries are starting to color, the strawberries are in and we stopped at a lovely spot to share a small meal by the lake on the way back. And I still have some calories to spare. That's not counting the exercise ones from our walks along the lakeshore.
Glad to hear you were able to get out walking Marie. We actually came through a little rain shower on the road. First we've used our wipers since I don't know when. It does clear the air to have a bit of a shower tho'.
Hope you all had a great day.

We've been busy but I wanted to check in and say hello to everyone. It wasn't as hot today, no rain, and only a short period of high wind. We ate one meal outside at the picnic table under the awning. Our friends brought their meal and we had ours so everyone had their choice of what healthy food to eat. We said "no thank you" to all the people who invited us to join them either at a Mexican restaurant or at the buffet at the casino. we walked instead. Jake got over 20,000 steps on his pedometer and i got over 23,000 steps.
Big hugs

Good Morning,
Beautiful sunny day here and I think it will be warm enough to go to the pool. Later I will be having a bbq for my kids and grandkids. :drinker: I bought some chicken breasts for anyone who doesn't want burgers or hot dogs. (that would be me)
Hope everyone has a beautiful day and hopes the weather is good to all. :flowerforyou:
Hugs and kisses,
Sandy0 -
Nice day here today. We plan to do the walking tour of heritage homes in Nelson. Should be inspiring, as we live in one that needs a lot of work. Also will get some excercise which is good because I seem stuck at this weight.
Have a nice day everyone and good luck to you Marie on Tuesday.0 -
Thanks chowhound. Enjoy your outtings.
Jerry has finally realize that it is him that making Sammy so fat. He has cut out giving him some of his ice cream and sausage at breakfast. And his cookie at Jerry cookie break time in the afternoon. So we shall see in the morning how it has work. That little fellow is up to 28 lbs. Way to much for him. Now if he could just figure out my problems.
Have a great day.
Marie0 -
Hi everyone from sunny Saskatchewan. It is 30C (87F) today and my poor little tomatoes are looking very warm and droopy. I have been neglecting my garden and flowers so gave them a good drink today. I hope they all recover. We are going out for Neil's birthday dinner. I usually have grilled shrimp but we shall see what intrigues me tonight. Steak is one of the things that I don't cook well so I may try some. I always overcook it which makes Dave happy but no one else!!
Poor Sammy on a diet. Even when things are good for us it isn't easy so I expect it will be the same for him! It will likely be hard for Jerry too.
Chowhound -- I would love to do the heritage home tour as well. Hope you have fun. If you are ever in Manitoba they have a wonderful walking tour of their heritage homes in Brandon. You follow a map and the brochure gives you the history of the homes. Unfortunately for the most part you don't get to go inside. I was very lucky that one woman (home owner) saw me doing the tour (on my own, Dave was checking out a military museum) and she invited me in to her home. She showed me all the unique things to the home. I would love to do it again, it was a wonderful couple of hours (and I didn't have to hang out with old tanks, etc.) Sorry, Beth!
I better get ready to go out. I have clothes on the line and don't want to leave them as the forecast is for a thunder shower.
Keep smiling. Gayla (yes, my butt still hurts but I am getting used to it) :ohwell: :flowerforyou:0 -
Hi Gayla, tell Neil Happy Birthday for me. So good to hear from you this afternoon. You sound better.
Alice is going to have cateract surgery in the morning. Seems strange ot have a kid old enought to have cateract. Hope all goes well for her.
We are planing on going to her Other side of the family reunion this coming Friday. Haven't seen any of them in 60 years so it will seems strange to see then all grown up and have grandchildren. They have a family web site and have been chatting with them for serval months and I am ansious to meet them all. Not any of Alice uncles or her Dad are alive and just one aunt and she lives in Calif. and will not get to come. I was planning on making Chicken and Dressing in the crock pot but my surgery cancil that and it is way to hot. I will go to the deli and get some Ham slice up. Amd maybe make a brocolli salad.
Hope you have a nice night out and enjoy you meal.

Good night to all
Barbie and Jake0 -
Now Barbiecat and jake don't over do it. that sounds like an awful lot ot steps. Don't wount you to get hurt. I thought 10,ooo steps a day is ss what they recomend. enjoy your trip. Marie0

Good Morning Everyone!
I hope you all had a great weekend! The job quest continues. got a few things working so I am more hopeful this week.
Marie- "Sevin" dust will take care of the tomato worms. Very easy to use and very good! The plants should recover just keep them well watered.
Gayla and Ellen- Gayla! good to hear from you and Happy b-day to Neil! About 18 years back my wife and I restored an old Victorian house. It was a great project but all consuming. It took us 7 years but we doubled our money in that time frame. It was just too much house for us. When we got done we had over 4k square feet of living space (not counting a 3 car garage and full basement and an attic that could have been opened up). It is a very nice home to this date but I noticed a while back that the care and maintenance was slipping. We were going to participate in a historic show but backed out. Anyway I really love those tours.
Sandy- glad to hear you are staying busy!
Barbie- How is the trip?
Beth- Just where have you been girl?
Ellie- How is the house coming?
PJ- I bought some pint jars for my herbs. Thanks again!
We transplanted more plants this weekend. We had an explosion of moss roses! We transplanted probably 200 and I did not dent what we have left. We also had a "blessing" of sage. I think that I am going to have spray the flower beds to get rid of all the excess before they take over completely.
Animal update! The coyote seems to have moved somewhere else. The rabbits have eaten about 25% of my romaine lettuce, and the chipmunks have made a nest in the wood frame of the hot tub. We had deer in the back yard Friday night but I chased them off before they found the garden. So to sum it up, "they" are winning! LOL I am going to build a RDS (rabbit defense system AKA fence) today to protect what I have left!
Amanda and Sam will be home for Fathers Day! See me smile! Day is good and doing well! So far today I have made the bed, swept the floor, done Dayanne's hand wash items, applied for 2 jobs and drank a pot of coffee! You all have a great day!
Jeffrey0 -
:glasses: Good Morning, Sunny and warm [It will be hot again, but I'm not complaining]
Barbie, that's a LOT of steps. I think I'm doing well if I get close to 10,000! You'll be down 10 lbs when you get home!
Marie, Hope your surgery goes well tomorrow.
Gayla, Nice to be able to hang clothes outdoors. We had our first showers yesterday in a long time. Quite refreshing actually.
Jeffery, Did you find the exercise helped a lot with the weight loss or was it more cutting calories?
Chowhound, Nelson is a pretty town, lots of heritage homes. How was the tour?
Everyone getting there water rations? I guess with the warm weather it is even more NB.:drinker: :drinker:0 -

Jeffrey - how's Day?
Hey Sandy - how's it going? Sounds like some good family fun!
Beth - you doing ok over there?
It rained here and we had severe thunderstorm/funnel cloud/hail watches for 9 days in a row. Yesterday it only rained a tiny bit so that was nice! I'm tired of being muddy and dirty!!!!!!! We've gotten lots of painting done and some floors - this week they're supposed to bring kitchen cabinets and the finish guys are supposed to install them and work on the wood trim - STILL so much work. My dil came up from Colo Spgs to help yesterday. We worked all day Saturday and Sunday again.......I'm wore out but excited about the house!
Miss you guys - everybody have a great day!!!!!! elli0 -
Jeffrey, You simply amazed me with what all you do or have done. remodeling a vicrorian house. What a job that must have been.
So glad Sam and Armanda is making it in for father day.
Hope the job search is successful.
as far as the horn worns, Jerry is just picking them off and killing them. He only found one yesterday. I read on the internet that they come out twice a year. So we will have to keep our eyes open. These are the biiggest I have ever seen and their droppings look like rabbits Never have I have ever seen anything like this. Have a wonderful day. Marie0 -
Marie - if you, or Alice have chickens - feed the horn worms to them - they LOVE them! elli0
-
No chickens here just frozen ones I buy at the the store. I remember when my Daddy had a grocer store when I was a kid and every saturday morning he would get out and kill and dress he chickens for his orders for that day.ugh~!!!!!!!! stinking mess.
Marie0 -
The walking tour of heritage homes was wonderful. There were only 8 homes which I am thankful for. Not everyone participates of course and it would be too tiring anyhow. Our house was the oldest house except for one built in 1895, We now realize how much money and time goes into these homes and they sure soak up the money. Gorgeous though and great to live in and a great conversation peice. We will just do what we can with this house (not listed as heritage because of some of the crazy 70's reno's and of course stucco) slowly, as I have heart problems and my husband is recovering from Cancer. Then we will sell it and move to an easy care place with less stairs.
Ellen we do have water restrictions already but we have huge rain barrels underneath the eavestrouph (sp) so we are fine. We even sell them and have sold out. We need to get on that and provide people with more.
Have a great day everyone and good luck tomorrow Marie. Will be thinking of you.0 -
thanks Chowhound,
Glad you enjoy your tour
.
I thought I answer this earlier but I don't see it anywhere. I must not have sent it.
Sammy lost 1/2 lb this morning. I told Jerry he was the one making him fat. Now he believes it.
We are not on Water rrestrictions yet. but probable will be before the summer is gone.
We have a hot one out there now.
Just heard from Alice my daughter her cateract surgery turn out fine so far. she is home resting now. Will be off tomorrow and go back to work Wed.
Hello to Sandy, Barbiecat, Jake, Eli, Ellen, Phoebe , Gayla, Jeffrey., Beth, and Big G.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Last day for my daughter and her family and last day of sitting for Marisa for a while. Tonight is the big benefit and I will bring Marisa there later for dinner. It will be a late night so tomorrow I will be exhausted, although I already am.
My weight seems to be coming off faster this week, I think because I am so busy. Our family bbq was wonderful with a day at the pool before the eating. After dinner we play a Wii game called Raving Rabbids and it was so much fun.
Marie best wishes tomorrow and as usual my prayers are with you.
Trying to do 20 things at once so will talk to you later or tomorrow.
Sandy0 -
Sandy you are one busy gal. Enjoy your family. Sounds like you all had fun.
Marie0 -
Hi everyone! We had another hot day today. My garden is all up except for the cucumbers. My tomatoes still look a little weary but I think they will survive. Apparently we have had the driest Spring since they began recording statistics, a very long time. Farmers are worried as the dryness along with the cold weather has not made a good start for crops. All of this will not help the economy I am sure. I was in to see my Investment guy today and told him that nothing will keep me from retiring the end of December. He talks away about all the investment stuff and I am sure that my eyes glaze over, he doesn't seem to notice and talks away. He is a very nice guy and I would never want to tell him that most of his statistics, etc. are not very meaningful to me. Sad to say, I know!! I am def. a people person and not a number person.
Marie -- So glad that Alices' surgery went well. It doesn't seem that long ago that I had my cataracts done. I was still in my 40's when they first noticed that cataracts were forming but I got about 10 years behind me before I needed surgery. As you know it will make a big difference for her.
Hope everyone else is well. I will catch up later in the week. Gayla0 -
Hi... I am still alive and kicking... just been working 18 hour days doesnt leave a lot of time to get to my emails let alone on a website.
I will get back with you this weekend after I read everything.
Miss talking to you all
Beth0 -

We had dinner with friends tonight. They barbecued chicken thighs. we asked for ours without skin and without barbecue sauce. we brought the salad----tons on different veggies with spray dressing. We said no thank you to the rolls, the wine, and the cheesecake. We left right after dinner so I could go to a line dance class. Jake went shoppingthat way the other two couples could drink wine and eat cheesecake without feeling guilty:laugh:
jake played golf this morning and I went shopping.
We had sad news today about the death of the older of the two girls of the two girls who groom the dogs.       :sad:0 -
oh Barbie - i'm so sorry about the girl who grooms the dogs! They're the ones who stay with them as well the rare times that you leave them right? The ones you no longer provide food for? I have the impression they are YOUNG girls...........so sad! The guy who's doing my kitchen cabinet's 18 year old was in a bad horse wreck - she had surgery yesterday - she's going to be all right thank GOD! Lots of broken stuff, lots of rehab - but full recovery expected.
Hey Beth - good to hear from you - thank you for checking in with us. I always tell my son you don't have to leave a huge e mail or talk for a long time - just a hey mom, i'm crazy busy but all right. Those 18 hour days have got to be killer! Hang in there. You're always in my prayers.
Hi Gayla - I'm like you with the whole numbers thing - i don't know how i manage to run a business sometimes (i have a good accountant:happy: ). Anymore i try to NOT think about the investment thing - i figure i'll be working for at least another 20 years neway!
Sandy! You lost more weight! RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!! Sometimes just being so busy seems to work!
Sounds like some fun family time - that's so cool! Hey - did you leave a comment on my house blog? I'm pretty sure it was you - thank you so much for looking at it and commenting!!!!!!! Hopefully soon I'll be adding pictures of the kitchen cabinets!
Marie - hope Alice is healing well - i know you have surgery........today? tomorrow? Always thinking about you and wishing you well!
Love you guys!!!!!!! elli0 -
:flowerforyou: Elli---the girl who grooms the dog had cystic fibrosis. she was 20 years old and a college student. I knew she had cystic fibrosis but except for the fact that she was much thinner than her mom and sisters, she didn't seem to be someone who was living with a chronic condition. It wasn't until she got sick and was hospitalized a week or so ago that we really faced the fact that she might not live long. Jake offered to come home right away but her mom and sisters wouldn't hear of it. jake is going to call them every night so they have someone to vent or cry to. One of the sisters told Jake that he was the grandpa she always wished she had. thank you for your kind words.......I'm sorry to hear about your friend's daughter and happy to hear that she's on the mend.
:flowerforyou: Beth---it's good to hear from you. I hope there will be respite from those long work days.
:flowerforyou: Gayla, I made the decision to retire a few years ago even though I could have been better off financially to wait two more years. somebody had said something to me about "quality of life" and I woke up one day and looked at my job and said "I'm done". I think deciding to retire is as much about intuition about you want you life to be as it is about all those financial numbers. i wish you the best as you wrestle with that decision.
:flowerforyou: We spent $20.00 and two hours at the laundromat today but now we have clean clothes, sheets, and towels. When I get home I'm going to kiss my washer and dryer and live in gratitude that my life does not usually include the laundromat.
hugs to all
