You said you "skimmed" so you might have missed Barbie's last message, quoted below:

    :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Hi Everybody,
We're headed off to Trail, BC tomorrow. The passports and pet health records are out and ready to be shown at the border.

We'll be in an RV park without wifi so unless we go to the library to use the computer, you won't be hearing from us for at least a week.

    Big hugs to all,:heart::heart:
    Barbie and Jake

As you can see, she is "sans internet" til they get back to "civilization." I do envy the two of them. They are in a part of BC that I have yet to visit. I am more familiar with the coastal area, as that is where most of my mother's family live. I used to get up there at least once a year, but with all the obstacles that post -911 border crossings entail--a PASSPORT or EDL (enhanced driver's license) just to drive across the border:grumble: --I haven't been in about 2 years. My mother elected not to make the trip any more, because it is hard for her to take lengthy car trips at the ripe old age of 93.

Well, this is the Fitness category, we are in, so I am going to take off and try to get a walk in before I go back to work.

BTW, I am down another pound :drinker: so no matter what else happens today, it is a good day.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Hi barb, good to hear from you again. Have you known Barbiecat fpr awhile. She is an absolutely a doll. Her and Jake both. We are used to hearing from her everyday and miss her when she can't. But she will post when she can.

Sammy is losing weight now since Jerry has quit given him table scraps/ Almost a lb in 2 weeks.
Wish I had done as well.

We really had a hot one today. I got the oven going now baking a squash casserole. Smells so good. But is one of those oven toaster so it is not really heating the house up.

    Hi All,
Had a meeting today, a little more shopping then picked Bryanna up from dance practice and took her home. Made a couple of filets for me and my husband along with a garden salad. Jeffrey's dinner sounds so good I wish I was invited.

Ellie, good to hear from you, the way things are going you should make it in your house by August, I have faith in you.

Marie, glad you didn't turn the oven on to an already hot day in your area. It is very hot here also, thank goodness for air conditioning.

Barb (weaklink) congratulations on another pound lost. One day at a time.

Hope to hear from everyone else in the near future but hope you are enjoying your time away.

    Hi Marie,

I met Barbie my first week on MFP when I found the 50+ Women's thread. We share a love of animals, and both have multiple dogs in our household. We also live in the same state (Washington), but have never met face to face. The closest we came would have been the day Barbie and Jake drove through Vancouver on their way to California, and passed probably within a 1/4 of a mile of me, sitting in my office, which is close to the freeway. Their home base is actually about 200+ miles north of me.

She is definitely good people, :flowerforyou: and a great inspiration to us all. Maybe someday our paths will cross in person.

I am glad to hear your little Sammy is getting , well, "littler." Mai Li, my "Little Piglet Girl" (one of her many pet names) sends her best wishes to Sammy. She has lost about 4 lbs. and should lose about 3 more to be at her ideal weight.

Squash casserole sounds yummy. I can almost smell it ! :noway:

Sandy--One day at a time, one pound at a time, one calorie at a time. If I were into Eastern mysticism, I guess that could be a mantra!!

Well, I need to hit the feathers, as 4 am  comes WAY TOOOOO Early!! That''s when I have to get up, as I start work @ 5a!!

My squash casserole was good. We planted the little round zucchini. I am on the lookout for a low calories muffin to make with them, I heard they make good muffin and bread.,

Phoebe, Now that you got that Wil I ecpect some changes in your ticker. I need to make some changes in my ticker also. right now up not down. but I am not going to change it. For that will give me something to work for, to get it back to where it was.

Well not quite normal for he had some mental problems. But he was love by all the family members.

Barbiecat and Jake, Hope you two are enjoying yourself up there in Canada. Wish I could go up there. Have heard so much about it here, It must be a wonderful and beautiful country.

Ellen, You are on vacation too. Were you born in Canada? I know you have been around the world even been to Dallas.

Chowhound. I love your new pic, you are a very beautiful girl. And how is your husband and sister doing?

Eli---Moved in by August. Thats not far away. can hardly wait to hear all about it,

Lol, I'm with you Marie, I am still in my pj's because I spend so much time on my computer in the morning. After this post I am going to exercise, hopefully sit in the sun a little, then I have to pick up my granddaughter for her dance showcase tonight. It is like a recital so all those who can't come to competitions or Nationals can see their competition dances.

So sad about the three deaths this week, remembering Ed McMann from Johnny Carson and Starsearch, Farrah Fawcett from Charlie's Angel's, plus some great movies and Michael Jackson, the King of Pop. It is sad when they die so young no matter how you feel about any of them.

Have a good day and a terrific weekend.

Here I be, for a second or two. We are leaving this afternoon. I'm putting books on my mp3 player, it takes a bit to do that.
The ribs were delicious, as they go.. too fatty for me. plus I keep having images of the little piggies!!
    crazy me!
we got a new grill, put it together yesterday.
still haven't used wii yet. just too much going on I guess.
when I am able to get to the tv, Jim is usually watching it.. so I wait til he is busy elsewhere, but this week, we have both been busy elsewhere
Marie, I saw a cute little jack russell last week and it was fat and made me think of Sammy.

shocking about m. jackson, I didn't know he took drugs.. sounds like it might be that same way that Elvis died.. prescription meds overusage, etc.
sad about farrah faucett.. makes me feel olllldddd... but also blessed, to still be here.
I forgot about ed Mcmahon, he had such a great laugh.

time to get to work, packing, groceries, etc.
be careful all of you, and have awonderful week.
fourth of july coming up!! wow what a quick halfway point it has been

    Well Hello
this is from a newsletter I got this morning

The 'Innocent' Causes of Weight Gain

If you tend to grab a handful of cereal or a spoonful or two of ice cream while serving yourself a bowl, listen up. All those little extras have a way of compounding over time, and the caloric tally at day's end can be pretty sobering. Think about it — some brands of ice cream and granola contain nearly 300 calories per 1/2 cup, which means a mere tablespoon clocks in at 40 calories. Even something as innocent as cottage cheese or fruit salad can do damage if you habitually pop spoonfuls into your mouth. In fact, for many people, these little "appetizers" are a major cause of diet failure or the dreaded plateau.
The best way to nix the noshing habit is to keep your mouth otherwise occupied. Try chewing a piece of gum or sipping a no–cal beverage (like water, coffee, or tea) when you're cooking or putting together a meal or snack. Cut–up veggies are another good choice; not only do they keep you from sampling the wares, but they also start filling you up before your hit the main course
I am very guilty of this. Marie

HI everyone from sunny Saskatchewan. Well, actually it is not sunny anymore but we had a gorgeous day. I have been having more good days than not good days with the back so feel like there will be an end to this. I got my hair cut today so look a wee bit better, too! This afternoon I went to physiotherapy and she felt my back was again better than the last time and said to keep doing the exercises every other day. I told her that my plan was to do some weeding in the garden this week and she said ok, but be very careful. I will do my best and this time, if I start having pain I will quit immediately not an hour later!! So -- garden, here I come!! My roses just started blooming so I will be happy to do a little trimming. I don't think they like to look so scruffy.
I can't begin to answer all the posts, just know I do think of you all.

Phoebe -- As always, drive safely.

Marie -- You asked if Neil was born with club foot and the answer is no, he wasn't. He had perfectly normal looking baby feet. The foot trouble started when he was about 12. He developed hammer toes so had surgery to correct them, following surgery he immediately developed something called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy which kept him in a wheelchair for about 2 years. It was during that time that we went to the Shriner's Hospital in Montreal searching for some answers. We got none, his feet became more and more twisted (for lack of a better word) and he was mostly walking on the outside of his foot. This took a period of several years and then we started a process of doing the reconstructive surgery. The surgery in September will be the last of four and has taken about 6 years. We will all be so glad to have it overwith. I am not sure if I posted after our visit to his neurologist this past week. Just in case I didn't (if I did, please ignore) the plan is to take him off one drug which is known to cause behavior problems and depression and put him on a different one that will hopefully help the seizures and stabilize his mood a bit. If this works we can avoid the neuro. surgery for awhile, hopefully a long while! We are so fortunate to have wonderful doctors for him. They are not only skilled at what they do, they obviously care about him (and us).

Enjoy the weekend everyone. Gayla

Nope, not on vacation yet, but just busy getting ready for my trip. Yesterday I went to the pool with my son and his girlfriend, we had a great time. Watched a movie last night, went to Church this morning and now off to the mall to return a pair of shoes I don't like.

The weather has cooled down today and it is breezy, I even opened the windows for some fresh air.

My weight is doing good but again a little lax on the exercise, although I did try swimming as much as I could yesterday since it is so good for you. Walking at the mall should also help today and if I can fit it in I will do something at home later. :blushing:

Marie, I am glad you are feeling better and you are right to stay in out of the heat. Everyone else is probably doing summer activities that they can't do in the dreary winter. They will let us know what is happening when they get a free minute, in the meantime enjoy each day.

    Good Afternoon,

My morning started off hectic because I ended up driving my granddaughter and her friend to dance which is at a new studio. I took the wrong way there and it took longer than anticipated, then on the way home I missed my turn and ended up driving an extra 30 minutes. Frustrating but not the end of the world. I then went with my hubby to his doctor's appointment and just got home. I have to go back and pick up my granddaughter at 3:00 so will be doing a lot of driving today.

I think I gained a pound after this weekend, but hope to be back on track by tomorrow. I have to find time to exercise today even if it means after dinner. Only 5 more days until I leave so I have to work hard.

Just checking in and hope all are doing well.

hi everybody - hope you all had a good weekend! Marie - it's HOT where you are! I keep hearing about Texas on the news and thinking about you. Hope you have air conditioning!!!!!!

Sandy - I hope your drive this afternoon is better than this morning! I gained a pound over the weekend too - don't worry - we'll both take it off during the week. I have the feeling it may take me going back to the gym and yoga to lose my 3 - and at this point i just can't!

Barb - i don't know if i'm brave or just crazy! lol. I've run this business for 22 yeras now - my Dad started it back in the 1940s. Our 2 best selling products always seem to be in jeapodary from FDA or EPA - therefore i'm always looking at other companies to buy that i could run from the barns the way i do now. This one i'm looking at looks promising - but definitely scary!

Saturday i got the upstairs bathroom floor grouted - still need to do the shower..........omg is that a dirty nasty job! Then i had some painting to do - trim and the pantry shelves. I'll go in this afternoon and hopefully finish the pantry and start on one of the closets. My friends Jennifer and Terry who are helping me are on vacation now with their 2 girls so i need to go to their house and hang out with the dog and water the grass and chickens and check the cows.........

Yesterday my dil came from Colo Spgs - she's getting pretty antsy for my son to be home (as are we all). So i actually took the afternoon off and we went to the lake for a couple hours. It felt like a mini vacation! Very cool!!!!!!!!:glasses:

    Hey Beth! where are you?

Hi Jeffrey, Gayla, Phoebe, Barbie and Jake

Sorry if i missed anyone! elli

    Have you missed me??? LOL

News from the Nut House! I have been BUSY! House guest all last week! It was great. I got to spend a lot of time with my SIL. She is a great gal. I have been cooking some and running around a lot. I did get out yesterday and picked a quart of wild black raspberries. If I have the time I am going out again this afternoon. I have been getting some bike riding in and i have really been enjoying that. The job search is still bleak, but I keep on trying and looking. It could be worse! Smanatha is coming home Thursday and bringing 2 friends home from college with her. That will be fun and lively! We are having our traditional 4th of July cookout with our best friends and thier families. That is always one of the highlights of my summer. My garden is doing great and I am getting ready to pick green beans and I am on my second full cutting of lettuce, now that the rabbits are not an issue.

That is a quick overview of the last few days. I hope everyone else is doing great! I will get the new pics up soon.

I did post a new weight! Whoo Hoo!

Jeff! You reached your GOAL! OMG - you ROCK! That is so cool! Congratulations! I don't know if i'll get rid of my 3 pounds 'till i go back to the gym and yoga.

Marie - how great that you got some new carpet and it only took a DAY! I probably should have gone with more carpet in my house and fewer wood floors! The only carpet I'm getting is a little bit in the master bath and the walk in closet. Everything else will be wood floors. They're already there - they just have to be refinished - that will be the final thing before i move back in......

Hope everyone else is doing well! It does seem like lots of people must be on vacation. I went to the lake on Sunday with my dil for a couple hours - it was my vacation! It was GREAT!!!!!

    Hi Everybody,
I am with a friend at a bookstore/internet cafe in Trail, BC and we're using their computers. I did a quick skim of the posts but all my brain retained was how much I miss all of you and can't wait to get to the next campground and back on my computer.

This is a fabulous part of North America and one that I intend to come back to.   Trail is on the banks of the Columbia River and is surrounded by mountains. The people are friendly. If we didn't love the north Olympic Peninsula so much, we'd move here in a heartbeat.

We have been very careful about our eating but exercise has been walking and since it's pretty warm, not nearly enough walking. I bought two new t shirts in a smaller size  with Canada and a maple leaf on the front, so I'm ready for Canada Day tomorrow.

Big hugs to all,

So good to hear from Jeffrey, Elli and Barb. Glad you are doing so well and we miss you. Summer is always busy so we understand, I will be gone all next week, so our posts will be slim.

Marie, congratulations on the new carpet. I bet the house smells brand new. :flowerforyou:

I played cards today but not before getting 45 minutes of exercise done. We had lunch and then picked up my granddaughter from dance. Made some dinner for my hubby and now plan to just chill out on the couch.

Will check in tomorrow and hope you all have a great evening.

WTG Jeffrey!!! What a wonderful accomplishment.

We are sitting here under a tornado watch and wondering if we should head to the basement. I am quite anxious with weather so not a fun time. It is looking to me like it will pass over. Lots of wind and the birds are really flitting around. Not sure if they are enjoying the extra lift or if they know something is up. Tomorrow is a holiday for Canada Day. Kind of nice to have a mid-week holiday.
Yesterday I put our cruise on a 3 day hold. The travel agent will get back to me tomorrow to confirm. We are just trying to find some better air prices. If not, I guess we will bite the bullet and go high. We could wait and watch but with seven of us it makes it more difficult to get any kind of deal. My air miles will take care of a large part of the cruise which is nice. It should be a great way to celebrate my retirement!! People ask me if I am sure that is what I want to do --- there is no question!!!
I did go to the Dr. today about my knee. I thought it was because I was favouring my other side that my right knee started acting up on me, sore and swollen off and on. The doc thinks that I may have cracked the knee cap when I fell on it a couple of years ago and now it has a bony growth on the knee cap. He also thinks there is arthritis in the knee. I had the x-ray and will get the results Thursday. It hasn't been as sore this week so nearly cancelled the appt. and the hip is getting much, much better. I actually did a whole grocery run without having to quit in the middle. Yeah me!!
Hmm, I am seeing some sunshine so hopefully those dark clouds will not turn around and come back over us.

Marie -- How nice to have new carpet -- what colour? We have been talking new flooring for a long time but still haven't gone ahead with it. Dave wants ceramic tile and I want hardwood. We don't argue about it, we just avoid. He thinks I am too sloppy in the kitchen for hardwood and perhaps he is right!

Barbie -- Enjoy Canada Day, you sound more prepared than I am. We used to go watch the fireworks but haven't for a few years. Actually we can see them from our upstairs bedroom window. We just get the high ones as it is about 20 miles away.

Elli -- Sounds like you are making great progress. It is frustrating when you are in the tedious parts but you will be so thankful when it is done.

Sandy -- Do you play bridge? We used to play bridge with friends but they have moved to B.C. It is a great game.

Everyone else, have a happy day and think of us Canucks tomorrow! Gayla
