Hello, I'm 65, 6', with a starting weight of 250 pounds. Short story is Before Christmas my doctor told me I was a type 2 diabetic and would need to go on meds. Having raised a son who was type 1 diabetic since age 5, I knew that I wanted to avoid that lifestyle. I inquired as to a way out. I was told perhaps if I lost a great deal of weight the numbers would drop, but that he doubted whether that was possible. When I asked what was the best way to lose that much weight, he replied calorie counting was the my best bet. At two hundred fifty pounds with high blood pressure and acid reflux I knew it was going to be a diffficult task. I made an appointment for three months from then to do blood tests and see where my weight was then. I researched constantly, began charting my food intake with a smartphone and begin working out twice a day. The outcome...Three months later at the doctors visit I had lost 40 pounds, was experiencing low blood pressure, and had dropped down to a prediabetic number. As of yesterday I have lost 81 pounds, been taken off BP medication, taken off acid reflux meds and feel great. I went from 250 pounds to a weight of 169.
It can be done at any age. Attititude is the number one tool.

Good morning guys, I'm 6'1" started @ 292, down to 276 (unofficial, next official is August 1st). This is a challenging process, and a positive mindset is sometimes a challenge to maintain. Working with a group of like minded individuals moving towards a common goal, makes things a little more bearable, I've learned a lot already, and still have a lot to learn.

Congrats to those who have reached their goals, and continued success to those who are still on their way.

6 ft, currently 328. At one point I woulda been a success story when I got down to 270. Back at square 1 with a new goal of getting to 230 in 1 year. It is going to be tough. I want to make it through a full year so I can really change my life.
  • 6'3 and 265...I have been a Survival Specialist in the Armed Forces 17 years ago weighing in at 235...and since then I have gotten married and now im trying to get back to being healthy again..so if you would like to add me...just let me know..and I will do my best to give the support I can..

Started this journey on April 18, 2012- at 5.9.5" and 240.Currently 206 with another 30 to go. My pants have dropped from a 40 to a loose 36.

Started this whole endeavor as part of a 1 year long, nutrition research study. The short of it is that they didn't ask you to exercise, just adjust your diet for 2, 6 month periods, one a very low fat diet and the second a very low-carb diet. I am just past the 3 month mark on my low fat and won't go low-carb until October. Just using MFP to track my diet and exercise, I found it very motivating and am now very self motivated- walking for 45 minutes on week nights, getting in a full hour+ on weekends and have started riding my bike again. Soon I break out the current laundry rack (aka Bowflex) to start adding strength and toning exercises.

Great to see all the stories and successes on this tread. Keep it up!

I have to agree about the tons of women and this generally being a women's only site. Personally, I like the food tracker and the database with all of the different items in it.

I started this site at 226 (I think I got to 236 at my heaviest) and currently weigh 172; I'm 6'1". This site has prompted me to train for a marathon, to watch what goes down the pipe, and to really understand that 'you are what you eat'. I also have come to realize that even people who are 'naturally thin' are likely eating in the same pattern that I have fallen into and may have counted calories for a period if they find themselves getting larger. Personally, my fear is slipping out the routine that has made this possible because I don't want to go back to where I was with my weight. I'm in the best shape of my life and feel great. Truthfully, it seems like little, simple changes have added up to a huge difference.

When it comes to being a "big man" - I think I definitely take the cake (or at least try to run away with a slice or two).

    6'3", 356 lbs currently (started at 380)
14EEE shoes - I go into shoe stores, ask "do you have 14 wides that AREN'T basketball shoes?", and usually walk right back out.
    21.5" neck, 52" waist, 58" chest, 30" thighs, 21" calves, and 19" arms

And here's the kicker - 24% bodyfat. I'm permanently stuck in 300-land unless I want to lose muscle mass, and that ain't happening. I've got throwing competitions to win. So my goal is about 325 or 330, 315 at the lowest.

About 15 lbs off already, but still a little overpadded:

A month ago (the most recent I have):

My goal is to get back to this or better (this was about 340 lbs, but at a higher bodyfat%):

I'll check in. I started in December of 2011 at around 310#. My current weight is 238. My GW is 225. I seemed to have plateaued recently, but I think it's mostly due to the busy summer schedule and not eating as well as I could.

    Before:

    Pretty recent

Count me in. Started MFP last month at 302 or so. I was 320 back in April, but I know that wasn't my heaviest. I haven't really set a goal weight yet, just hope to consistently continue to slim down. This is the first time I've really tried to do anything to address my weight issues and so far the progress has been steady.

Feel free to add me as a friend if you're looking for support. I'm won't comment on your logs every night or, "at-a-boy" you every time you go for a walk, but I'll be pulling for you all the same.

I KNOW I tell my husband but he will not record anything. He is 6ft 5in 340 but he will just not use the site. But he does workout with me and is watching what he eats. Good for you though do not let the lack of men keep you from visiting and recording your food. I know my husband drinks a lot of calories by stopping at 7-11 but he is working on changing to the crystal lite now ofered there.

    Good Luck

I have been on MFP since Feb. 2012 and have lost 46 lbs. I started at 260 lbs at 5'11" and was steam rolling my way to 300. I finally said this is enough. I started first by logging everything and noticed I was drinking 2000 calories or more a day in Coke alone. So i made some needed changes and am now consuming less than 1900 calories a day and working out 4 to 5 times a week buring 3000-4000 calories a week. My pants size went from a 40 to a 32-34 and shirts from a 3X to a 1X. I also ran my first 5k and did it in 32 minutes. My goal weight is 190 and I am at 214 right now. It is doable. Just don't treat it as a diet because it is not it is a lifestyle change and it takes time for your ind and body to adjust. Keep pushing forward and you will see results.

I know I don't belong in this thread; I was confused by the title. :D

You're all pretty sexy, btw. I'm not a man, but I have serious poundage to deal with, and I like trying to motivate and being motivated.

Right?! I thought this was a thread about liking larger men. Damnit. Plenty of eye candy here though :drinker:

I know, I was just getting ready to throw a few friend invites out to some of these guys. LOL HubbaHubba!

Started at 6'0" - 325. Down to 219... Yes there's a few of us kicking around.

I'm in more of a maintenance phase now. But if you do the work, the weight will take care of itself.
