    I was working with a company up near Lowell for the summer... and no lie, one of the conversations that was going on during lunch was the northern Mass. people saying how the "Boston accent" annoys them (ie the lack of "r's") because it makes them all sound stupid....

    Yep, see 'The Fighter' you'll think exactly that (and that's the Lowell accent in that movie, but very similar).

    B. Similar to Antarctica in temperature and always covered in snow.

    I love the shocked expressions when I get back from a week in Maine and people ask where I went that I got such a tan. And I'm a little guilty of "C" but that is how my family up there sounds, so it's not my fault. lol

    Well I'm 50% Canadian. And 50% Russian. I'm a US Born person but tell it to my parent's that I can't be half Canadian. They will be interested to hear what you have to say.

    I think there are a few misconceptions about Canada/ Canadians.

    - That it's cold all the time
    - That we're actually nice
    - That we're naive
    - That we all talk like we're mentally challenged cartoon characters
    - That we all drink beer, play hockey and drive snowmobiles

    You mean when your "oot & aboot" :laugh: My wife is from Sask. and whenever she tells someone she is from Canada they act like there is 100 people up there. "Oh yea, we know Bill & Helen from Toronto!"

    YUP hahahaha, it's sad... I can't even pronounce it "oot & aboot".... Sounds like a bad Australian accent impression.

    You know I just tried. It sounds more Scottish when I say it.

    I'm from Wisconsin, besides the cheese and cows, in the past it was fonzie or Laverne and Shirley comments! We are also known for beer and brats, but that is not a misconception~!

    For Goodness sake. If I'm not half Canadian what the eff is the other 50% of me. What is the POLITICALLY correct way to say that half of my heritage is half Canadian?

    I am originally from Newfoundland Canada and have been asked numerous times if I lived in igloos, was a fisherperson and if I know so and so from PEI...2 seperate provinces people...

    I do however, have the CDN accent when it comes to out and about, and house :happy:

    Whenever I hear a Canadian say 'about', it sounds more to me like "a - boat" than "a - boot"

    I also notice a difference in the word "sorry" sometimes. Instead of "saw - ry" like I hear most of the time down here, I hear "sore - ry"

    There're probably other subtle differences, but those're the two I keep noticing a lot!


    Uhh I don't know what part of Canada you have been too, but I have never heard any one say "about" like that bud.

    Yea, no telling where they were from. There's no doubt all sorts of different dialects and accents scattered about Canada just as there is in America.

    I'm from New Jersey.
    Everyone thinks the Jersey Shore is an accurate telling of people from NJ.
    If you live in New Jersey.. chances are you are NOT going to spend your Spring/Summer in that horrible state, you go to FL to tan.

    A Canadian friend of mine LOVES to say the phrase "Out and about in a boat." making Out, about, and boat sound almost identical.
