I am 53 now and you are right, it is about impossible to eat happily and not gain weight. All I can think is that I have to eat less volume, make better food choices, and be active. I am having problems with "being active".
Anyway, we can support each other. I need all the help I can get.

turning 40 sooner than I would like!!
anyone have any input on how important it is to stay within ALL your metrics? I have no problem with the overall cal count but can NEVER seem to stay within my protein count. Is this going to hinder my progress?0 -
I am 46 and it is definitely harder to lose weight and easier to gain it... !! So sad... Just keep on keepin on !0

I'm 45 and you're right on the money! Super difficult to stay in shape. And seems to take much longer to recover from workouts and such. I find that now that I'm in my 40s I have to pay much closer attention to what I eat and always workout regularly. I rarely skip a day working out and I never eat junk food. Sometimes that's not fun but at least I'm maintaining my fitness and health and, in the end, that's important for quality of life.
But for sure it's a huge challenge.
As someone famous once said, youth is wasted on the young!

You can do it! Just need to put the time in to move!
As we get older out metabolism slows down gradually.
The only way to counter act that and be able to get enough calories to enjoy life is to keep your body moving!

In answer to the question about the importance of getting enough protein, as you get older your muscle mass can decrease. So eating plenty of protein and also doing strength training to maintain muscle is very important.
Foods with good levels of protein - salmon, chicken, tuna, Quinoa (a grain), almonds, eggs. You can also add a good quality protein powder to just about anything - like to your oatmeal in the morning or in a blender with a banana and almond milk. Yum!
Definitely try to eat plenty of protein. It also has the added benefit of making you feel full longer.

I'm 40 and training to run my first half marathon ever. Found that, for me, running makes losing weight much easier. The half marathon was my not-so-subtle way of telling 40 "screw you"!! LOL
