6 yr old taken to police station in handcuffs

Spank her! I was spanked when I was a kid and Im perfectly fine. Yes spanking should be the last resort, but obviously there needs to be something more than "time out" done here. This child was totally out of control. I have a 6 year old and if she EVER acted like that I would applaud the police handling the situation like that. And you bet your butt she would be getting a spanking when she got home!
Spanking is the last resort. Most of the time, all
I need to do is pull the spoon out of the drawer.
I got the paddle a couple of times in school. I
acted like an *kitten*, and got what was coming to
me. The principle had a special paddle made
by the woodshop teacher that had holes drilled
in to it.0 -
I learned early on not to get in trouble at school..why...becausue they would paddle me...and then wehn I got home Id get a belt for getting in trouble...didnt take long for me to figure out...dont get in trouble...
I have an angelic red headed daughter now, and yes she has the red headed spirit...so when she acts up she gets one warning...
once she didnt heed the warning and got her *kitten* smacked...now she heeds the warning...its very simple
As a former police officer i was called to houses to raise peoples kids for them, they wont take their pill, they wont go to bed, they wont stop talking back, they ran out the door, they wont eat supper....
yes..all true calls...because nobody wants to be a parent anymore....
Then you have the parents whose kids are the rowdiest most obnoxious kids on the playground and you see them shove your angelic girl down ...so you go pick her up and wipe the tears and tell the mean kids to be careful and its not nice to shove...they cry to their parents who decide to lecture you on how they know how to raise their kids and for you to not tell their kids this or that...and you calmly tell them away from the kids to get the F out of your face....and take babygirl for ice cream0 -
If her parents spanked her, this wouldn't be a problem...
A wooden spoon speaks volumes.
Absolutely. What's a 6yo doing in Kindergarden anyway??? Shouldn't they be in at least grade 1 or 2??
Kindergarteners are ages 5-6. I've worked with this age group for 6 years. ;-)0 -

OMG! Where do I need to move????0 -

They also have this in TX. Half the football team in my high school got "swats" at least once a month. It was that or suspension. Which meant they couldn't play. Obvious choice. Didn't stop them from being dbags tho.0 -
no way. a 6 year old doesn't understand things the way an adult does. you arrest the parents.
Arrest the parents? Really? Way to teach the kids they will be held responsible for their actions.....0 -

L-O-V-E this!!!!!!!!!!! So very true0 -
I have three questions:
1) How many calories did the 6-yo burn off?
2) What is this listed as in MFP?
3) Should she have lifted weights before or after the cardio?
Cheers,
Sean
1) 347
2) Banchee Screaming
3) She lifted weights during. It's a hybrid exercise much like 30DS.0 -

My Mom broke a lot of spoons on my butt!
I'm no stranger to the flying shoe either!
Personally, I liked the ping pong paddle the best... it covered more surface area so it hurt less... hated the wooden spoon though... that sucker stung! And I had a couple of each broken on my *kitten* as well.0 -
In all seriousness, I would be upset if my child had a behavior problem at six years old and ended up with a record. Not denying responsibility for the parents but a record at 6 for not being able to control the slurry that is a childs hormones/body chemicals is a little rough.0

The parents need some parenting lessons.
6 years old? Throwing furniture and flipping out? My dad would have whooped my *kitten*. I had any object at hand thrown when I was a kid. I was never an angry person, straight A student, never suspended, became successful.
My dad's parenting style was "putting the fear of god in me, and he was god." :laugh:0 -

We had a ping pong table with no paddles. Why? They were all broken across my butt! They had to fashion a lovely paddle out of a 2x4. :-)0 -
i wish my kid WOULD act up like that and get taken to the police station! you might as well keep that child for a minute cause he will get it when he gets home. toothbrush to the toilet duty (ha! i said duty)
im sick and tired of these parents blaming everyone else. get your kids under control. if you dont do it now, then you might as well let them take a ride to the pokey cause thats where they are headed.
you think you are doing your kids a favor by "talking" to them and trying to reason with them? Uh no I dont think so. Quit trying to be friends with your kids. Be a damn parent!0 -

its the parents responsibility to figure how to hold their children responsible. Again- kids don't have the mind capacity to understand the concept of being arrested. arresting a kid doesn't solve any problems.0 -
When a child goes on that much of a rant especially in school there is definitely a problem with discipline at home.I have 3 kids one of which has ADHD and he would NEVER even think about acting like this at home or at school, because he knows he'd in in MAJOR trouble when he got home!
YES! YOU GO GIRL!0 -
Maybe this experience taught the girl not to misbehave so badly.0
-
wow, that'll teach her I guess.0
-
Wow. She had to be crazy out of control. Makes me wonder what is going on at home...
more this.0 -

Then perhaps they can expunge the record later in life (around 16/18) if nothing else happens between now and then... just a thought... and make the parents have a record and file it in the "need a parenting class or two" file... seriously, there is no reason (sans a documented mental health issue such as Autism or Bipolar disorder.... and even then the kid should be treated by a professional, not given an automatic pass) that makes this kind of behavior in anyone even remotely acceptible.... at all... "mood swings" or not...0 -
I'm sorry... but if my kid acted like an animal they would be treated like an animal.... bring on the squirty bottle... there would be no amount of "mood swings" that would make think otherwise either... mood swings or not it is NOT acceptible to have a tantrum that results in throwing furniture and tearing stuff off the wall...
Bring on the flames.
No flames. Just applause !!0 -
wow, that'll teach her I guess.
hopefully it teaches the parents!0 -

Sometimes we tell my 5 year old that the vegetable police are going to put him in jail if he doesn't eat his veggies at dinner. Usually does the trick!
But no, seriously, I think the child AND the parents both need to be held accountable here.0 -
"Our policy states that any detainee transported to our station in a patrol vehicle is to be handcuffed in the back. There is no age discrimination on that rule," Milledgeville Police Chief Dray Swicord told WMAZ-TV.
I'm all for law enforcement "doing their job" the Nazis used the same excuse, true story
What I have a problem with is that stupid phrase overruling common sense. come on, 6? How strong is a 6yr. old that you can't detain her without handcuffs? :noway:0 -
I was discussing this with a co-worker of mine and found it interesting that her immediate reaction was to say that the school was wrong. In my opinion, this child's age shouldn't matter. It is the school's responsibility to protect the staff and students. If a student poses a threat to the environment, regardless of age, the school has to take action to control the situation. I mean, the principal got hurt because this student pushed a shelf over on him/her! If this were a Jr. High or High School student, reactions would be totally different. Everyone would be like, "Yeah! That kid should be punished!!" Why is it different because this child is younger? Isn't it better to try to put a stop to this kind of behavior BEFORE the child gets any older? Just my opinion!
I completely agree with this. I hope that child was scared straight. Like it was mentioned before, she learned or was allowed this behavior at home. So, it shows a lack of discipline for the parents. Hopefully, this will make an impression on a 6 year old that that behavior is 100% UNACCEPTABLE.
If my child was taken to jail in handcuffs 6 or 16....I would them simmer on that for a while. I'm sorry, these days unconventional discipline speaks mounds!!!
I have 4 children ranging from 4 to 14 and everyone of them is respectable, polite, and mind the rules. Sure a little detention here or there for missing or late assignements or being late to class. Otherwise, they respect their educators. So I must be doing something right.0 -
I just wanted to say that my faith in humanity is restoring reading all the parents who're NOT siding with the kid here. Its unfortunate but seriously...control your kids!
Edit: BTW, to all those "give every kid a participation trophy even after losing a game" kinda parents, what would you have liked the school to do? Just take abuse from a freaking 6 years old?0 -
My youngest has ADHD and a mood disorder. There are signs earlier than 6 if that is the case for this girl. There were times when I had to physically restrain my daughter. Fortunately, the rages subsided by the time she hit school, but had they not, I would have had no problem with her being handcuffed and removed from the school. She was incredibly strong during these rages and had no regard for her safety or the safety of others. She usually didn't remember what she had done either. And yes, she was/is disciplined...spankings, timeouts, etc...0

I don't understand how that's so difficult to comprehend. It's the parents responsibility to be accountable for their child and get the child the resources they need. If the parents won't willingly seek help for a child who obviously has control issues then the parents should be compelled to do so, carting a 6 year old off to the police station in hand cuffs my scare the poo out of her, but it's not going to solve the root of the issue.0 -

Wow, use of Nazi in four pages.....may be an internet record =P0 -
She needs to see a psychologist and talk it out. It seems that she has some anger issues. Small children should not be put in jail, they are just kids and they need someone to take care of them and to me this seems like her outcry for help.
I somewhat agree with this. Yes, the girl has anger issues and needs to get some help. However, when a child is a danger to others, authority figures (police ) need to take appropriate action. Jail and handcuffs might seem excessive to you. I personally dont think it was. however I was not there. Call of the officers involved. Not to mention this child should be going to give the courts and Child services (hopefully) some work to do to work with the parents to get the child the help that she deserves. That child knows the difference between right and wrong and actions have consequences.0
