"When the sh** hits the fan." Okay, okay, maybe that's only a problem in my life. But, every now and then, I just wish the person who says it all the time would change it up a little. Maybe he/she could say, "When things go awry," or "In the event of a disaster," or really just anything else please.

as a child...visually that saying had me so perplexed...why would sh^t hit a fan? lol

I also hate the "You can't have your cake and eat it too" expression. If you give me cake I'm gonna f***ing eat it. That's why I'm here. If you try to give me cake and tell me I can't eat it I'm going to take a *kitten* on the hood of your car.

If you have cake and you eat it you no longer have your cake ergo "you can't have your cake and eat it too." you either have it or you don't but you can't have both.

Why is that so hard to understand?

If I have cake why wouldn't I want to eat it? There's NO point in my life where I've ever been content just holding on to my cake.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Please tell me you're joking and that you truly DO understand what that saying means.

My boyfriend always uses this to passively argue with me: "Well right, but...." I hear those words come out of his mouth and not only does my hand twitch, but my whole damn body does.

"This ____ is off the hook."

    STFU.

instead of stfu, i always use "shut the front door!" or "just shut it (implying the door) already!" hehe... my circle knows my slang well enough that i don't even have to state the nouns any more.

"For all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes."

The over use of "actually" is actually very annoying as well.
It drives me NUTS when people substitute a random word that starts with the same letter and has approximately the same number of syllables. Innovation and imagination do not mean the same thing, people--neither do express and espresso.
We have a commendation medal in the military (as in, "to commend"); I can't tell you how many times people have called it an "accommodation" medal. Yes, here's a medal for being so accommodating!

    "it's all gravy baby"

” everything happens for a reason” and ” it was gods will“
They both literally make my eye twitch.

The sayings I most hate are staples on MFP forums.
    - Sweat is fat crying
    - A tiger's earned her stripes
    - Eat more to weigh less
    - You can't spot reduce

The teenagers in my life say "You're cray cray" I want to strangle the life out of them every freaking time those words come out of their mouths.

Pretty much everything listed here bugs me.

Now that I think of it, I just don't like several people and anything those people say irritates the crap out of me. LOL
