Some help is very much needed, My Dear Cycling Friends.

What kind of bike do you have? I purchased my bike at Target around Mother's Day. I blindly purchase a cheap (in every sense of the word) bike because, after not cycling since I was a kid, I didn't know how much I would use it. After having endless problems with it, I returned it to the store today. Now I am bereft and a little gun shy. Money is, unfortunately, something that needs to be considered, but I want a bike that I can rely on. Any suggestions?

I would suggest looking on Craigs list. I have heard some people say they have gotten some nice bikes inexpensively there.

You could also try asking friends or family if they have a bike they do not use anymore that you could borrow.

If you wanted a new bike it seems a decent new bike starts at about $250 at bike store

Stay away from the big box stores and go to a local bike shop. They may work with you on price and a payment plan. Plus they should fit you properly and offer service after the sale.

My husband an I both bought ours on Craig's list after struggling for months with schwinns from Walmart. I would recommend what is called a comfort bike. We now own Diamondback bikes. They are not expensive and look similar to a mountain bike but as soon as you get one you will notice the position of the pedals makes it a dream to ride.

I def agree with going to a bike store. We bought a $250 bike from a bike store from my daughter about a year ago. Within a month both shifters stopped working right :( The bike store contacted the manufacturer and replaced both shifters with better ones and my daughter has been riding happily ever since.

I'm still on foot. I tried the bike store today, but found that the bikes were out of my price range (August is a terrible time, school clothes, car registration, etc...). I'm going into the city tomorrow so I will try a couple of other bike stores. I haven't been able to find anything on Craig'slist or on my local classifieds.

Does anyone know anything about SUN bikes? It's a brand made out of Miami, FL. One of the local bike shops has them on sale right now, but they are still close to $400.
