I am so old that we had party lines when I was a child, yes you had your own ring tone per family and when you picked up the phone any one of 4 other families could be using the line. First cell phone age 50 and I am proud that I paid for it myself ;0)0

I had my dads old pay as you go cell phone when I was 13. It just hung out in my backpack for emergencies. I got a "real" cellphone when I was 15, with a texting plan, booyah. I'm 23 now.0

12 and it was a basic flip phone. Now I'm 18 and have upgraded to an iPhone0

I was 11. It was when I started secondary school, and I was in the First Orchestra, so I had to be able to keep my parents updated in case there were extra rehearsals, or rehearsals were cancelled full stop.0

16, when I moved half way across the country without my parents.0

Got a car-phone in my car around 1989...I was 26...Eventually I got a cell phone when they were small enough to carry around...Not sure when exactly, but it must've been some time in the 90's?? I still have it, but have since moved on to a Sony Ericson W600i Walkman, not a modern cell phone anymore. Not sure how old it is, but it still works and it texts and take pics, but the memory is REAL small. 49 now.0

My parents got me one for my 10th birthday since I was always biking around in the forest with my friends.0
-
I was 20 years old, and that was like almost 5 years ago. The only reason I got it was to have a way to call home in college.0
-
I was 13. And the only reason why I got one because I wrote a very formal, intelligent 3 page proposal report on why I needed a cell phone with a plan on its uses, etc.
My parents were very impressed with my proposal report and ended up getting me one.
I'm 22 now.0 -

I was 17 (gonna be 27 soon) and i had to pay for it. It was one of those uber cheap cell phones from Verizon. it didn't do Anything but text and call. The screen was all pixelated and blue/grey! When i was 12/13 and through HS/JrHigh if i had to stay after for Choir or anything like that my mom made me do the whole 1800Collect thing. Where when it asked to state your name i had to say "mom, im done come get me now' super fast and hang up. LOL.0

I'm 42.....
Does getting your first corded telephone in your bedroom count? If so, I was 14 when I got a phone in my bedroom. Rotary dial.
First phone without a cord....I was 16....and WOW pushbuttons!!!!
Pager at 21. First cell phone at 28. Now I feel old.0 -
I was 45. I'm now 57. I grew up with no home phone either. Yeah, back in the day........
Oh good. Now I'm not the only one on here that knows how to use a rotary dial phone. Kids see them now and say, "How do I dial?"0 -
I'm embarrassed to say I was 14....I'm 23 now.
BUT! It wasn't my idea, my parents insisted I have one, as we lived out in the country, and I'd often go into town and need to let them know when to pick me up or if I was being harassed by the jerks at the movie theater (and there weren't a whole lot of payphones around, either).0 -
I got my first cell phone when I was around 25. I'm 33 now. (I was rather behind on the whole cell phone thing. Most of my friends had had a cell phone for years by the time I got one.)0

My parents STILL have a rotary dial phone in their basement. And they also have a TV with no remote that you turn on by pulling a knob outward, and it has the little UHF dial on it. They're big believers in not replacing something until it's actually broken.0 -
I got mine when I was 16. I'm turning 30 in a few weeks.0

Lol...um....38 or 40 I think....I'll be 50 this month. I never had a home phone in my room in my parents house. They were all corded and had to sit in the living room next to my parents in order to talk to my friends.
And well....my kids were in high school when then got cell phones...my youngest stepdaughter I think was 5 or 6 when she got hers.0 -
I got it at 13, as a Christmas present but I had to pay for the bills. Also, I'm 22 now.0

I got my first cell phone right after 9/11 because i realized I needed to be able to have my mother get in touch with me in an emergency. I don't remember how old I was then, I'm 65 now and I have an iPhone with all the bells and whistles.0
