  • aries, wow you have your hands full. Hope we can all get to know you better. We are good at being there for each other and supporting each other. Welcome to our group and look forward to seeing your posts.

lstpaul, thanks!!!! You always help me out with your advice. I am not too worried about my time line. I just want to get to 50 pounds lost. Right now I weigh what I did 12 years ago. I look in the mirror and even though I am still big I say way to go Sherry!!!!! (yes, that is my name:laugh: )

Yeah I do have my hands full a bit but I love it. I get asked all the time how I do it and to me it is just normal life. Yes all six kids live with us and I am busy pretty much all of the time but it's great. Thank you for the warm welcome to the group.

aries88: welcome to the greatest group of ladies.

lstpaul: 90 minutes of exercise makes me tired just thinking about it.   You must be feeling strong to have that kind of endurance. Thanks for the motivation. If you want to try some workouts at home www.collagevidoe.com has hundreds of titles you might be interested in looking into.

momma2four: You are so close to making next goal. The exact date is not important, just sticking with it and taking the loss as it comes. Slow and steady is the plan. I get so impatient when I prefer INSTANT:laugh:  You are doing great.

Today was a busy shopping day. I have one more Christmas gift taken care of. And we have all the fixins for Thanksgiving dinner except for the fresh things that have to be picked up Wednesday. I love Thanksgiving, so much to be thankful for.

    calories: yes 1314
exersice: yes (just a little, better than nothing)
    water: not quite
proud off: Not grabbing drive through fast food when I was in town today. In the past I wouldn't have thought twice about that.:embarassed:

I am taking a little road trip so I will do my weigh in on Saturday morning. You each take care.:flowerforyou:
  • Complete update for the day

Calories: 2156....had a few snacks today
Exercise: great -2.5 hours total and 1574 calories burned
    Water: 140 oz

Feeling very frustrated though....according to the numbers I had 3184 calories I could consume with how much I work and all that....but there is no possible way I can eat that many. I love how much I work out but I am concerned I might be hindering the weight loss process if I am not getting enough calories throughout the day. Any thoughts on that????

I blew it at the birthday party. I had lobster risotto and birthday cake, plus three martinis. And if that weren't enough, I drove through Taco Bell and ate three taco supremes. WHY DOES TACO BELL ALWAYS SABOTAGE MY FREAKING WEIGH INS? OK, why do *I* always sabotage my freakin' weigh ins with TB??!?!?!?!?

I am over by 700 calories. Why did I do this right before weigh in again?????????????

    Checking in for yesterday

Had a crazy busy day with my hubby yesterday and unfortunately spent too much time in the car.

Calories... stayed with in but just barely
Exercise... hardly any due to being in the car.. but, if you count all the walking we did going scavenging for a new light light fixture at the many places we went , I at least got a little:ohwell:
Water... quite frankly sucked.. probably drank about 3/4 of a gallon and I am feeling the effects today.:grumble:
Proud.... Proud that I was able to not go hog wild at Sweet Tomatoes and have a sensible lunch and skipped the desert!

Well.. today is a new day.. so, I am going to get back on the horse and try again.. Can't start let myself slip.

    Checking in for yesterday:

Calories: I actually hit 1200 exactly to the T
    Water: over 9 glasses
Exercise: Yes, ended up reading the wrong class schedule at the gym and ended up in the most intense aerobics class :noway:
Proud: wanted to take a nap, but had a cup of tea and headed to the gym instead

Could be the martinis though that lead you to taco bell. Trust me, I know how that goes!

My thoughts are that when I exercise, I count my calorie burn very conservatively. If my HRM says 500 calories burned and MFP says 300 calories burned, I go with MFP. We had a pertinent discussion here last week -- As someone with a lot of weight to lose and a high percentage of body fat (over 30), I'm unlikely to go into "starvation mode." The same rules don't really apply to obese folks. So, for those of us who have a lot of weight to lose, it's not as important for us to eat those exercise calories.

I have been leaving most of (if not all) my exercise calories most days. I think, what if I underestimated the calories or the portion size of something I ate? What if I overestimated my calorie burn? I personally like the safety net of leaving several hundred exercise calories uneaten. As I lose weight, I I'm sure I will have to adjust what I'm doing and start eating more of my exercise calories, but right now it's working for me.

That being said, when you do eat some or all of your exercise calories, you need to eat healthy foods. You don't get to eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's just because you ran for 90 minutes that day (:frown: ). But if you need an extra spoonful of peanut butter or you want a glass of milk or a piece of fruit, etc, and you have exercise calories, then go for it. I always eat when I'm hungry and I try to make healthy decisions. Of course, I'm also guilty of budgeting my calories for bad little indulgences (namely beer and/or pizza  ) but I certainly don't do it every day. Just try to make as many calories as possible *quality* calories. Don't eat empty calories just because you have some extra exercise calories. I think doing that would definitely hinder your weight loss.

I'm sorry! But today's a new day! :flowerforyou: That was just a tiny step back, but you're doing great!

You should go to Taco Bell's website and check out nutrition information. Find the healthiest & tastiest thing on the menu. That way, when you have a night like last night, you can drive through Taco Bell and order ONE of that, eat it very very slowly, and get your Taco Bell fix.

What you say makes perfect sense. Most of my exercise calories go uneaten every day and I rack up a lot of exercise calories every day. One thing my husband pointed out was that I am building muscle so not to go so much by the scale but by inches lost since I am losing inches. In the last month I have gone from a size 20 to an 18 so that is progress. It is nice to have those extra calories so I can indulge every now and then. I am a firm believer that you cannot deny yourself or you will end up overindulging. I eat when I am hungry and my family eats pretty healthy anyway...homemade dinners every night and with my husband being diabetic, it makes it necessary to eat healthy all the time. I do have a problem with my thyroid that was just discovered this summer and I go back on the 1st to have my levels checked to see if the meds are working *crossing fingers that they are*. I know if those levels are off that is going to hinder my progress as well. So anyway thanks for the advice. I think for now I am not going to worry so much if my exercise calories are eaten or not and just focus on eating healthy and getting the exercise. I am not going this morning because of a bad night's sleep but I will go after class for at least 30 mins. Oh and weighed myself this morning and am down another 2 lbs!!!!

    Good Morning Girls,

It looks like everyone has been busy. I love to see all the post.

Zora, New day. Even if you did not do so well this week, aren't you doing better than last? Keep it up, do not give up.

aries, you really do exercise a lot if you have that many calories. I think as long as you are eating some of them it is fine. I would think (and this is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt) That if you have over 3000 worth of calories each day, that eating 1500-1800 calories would be the least you should have. I would ask my doctor though to be sure.

jlb, you always have good advice thanks for sharing

awestfall, you beat your self up too much. You try too hard then get burned out. Slow down, take this one meal at a time. Slow and steady wins the race sister. We care about you and want to see you succeed. Okay?:flowerforyou:

snowflakes, love seeing you on here you always make me smile.

Stephanie, congrats on the advanced work out. :glasses: I am proud of you for working out instead of napping

To all my girls have a wonderful day. you guys, you are the best:flowerforyou:

awestfall: You can do this, just keep on trying! We are all in this together! :flowerforyou:
zorahope: It is a new day, don't let one bad night sabotage your week ... just have a great day today before your weigh-in tomorrow!

    checking in:
calories: over ... but not as bad as other days lately, I thought I had done well until I added up all my high-fat snacks (peanuts, pretzels and my 'old friend' cheese)

exercise: good ... I FINALLY got myself to take a walk during my son's swim team practice  ... he was guilting me into watching him for the full 45 minutes - and I was very easily agreeing to it ... But last night I told him I would walk for the first 20 minutes and watch him for the last 25 - and he was fine with it, and it felt good! I will have to make that a habit.

water: good ... 64 oz ... but probably not enough during the day, because I got really shaky again last night after my walk and right before dinner. I shouldn't have been hungry, so probably was not enough water again... not sure, but it caused me to snack too much again last night when I got home.

proud: I exercised on a non-YMCA day ... woo hoo! :drinker:

Thanks Momma you always know the right thing to say to me.I am trying to learn to take one meal at a time and I am not setting time guideline goals to meet anymore. My body will hit those goals when its ready.I just have to keep striving everyday to succeed and try my best.I am going to try to remember this everyday.

The weather here is making me feel so tired and bummed today but I am going to try to push myself to exercise and drink my water today.I already used up most of my calories for breakfast which stinks but everyone makes mistakes and mine was well worth it LOL!!! I am going to try to exercise hard today.

    Good morning gals,

We all are learning what works for each of us. What motivates us, what kind of inner strength do we each have, what trigers binges etc. We each are different and individual, yet we all can understand, and related to each other. You are a great group of ladies, so glad that we can share our ups and downs.:flowerforyou:

I am taking a little road trip and coming back tomorrow, so I thought that I would weigh in on Saturday morning but then I remembered that we will be without power starting early Saturday morning. A transmitter in our canyon is being replaced. I decided to weigh this morning so you wouldn't be waiting on me. Here goes:

    Last Week: 210.6
    Today: 209
    Total: 1.6 lost
    Percentage of: .75

Got past the first 15 lbs.

You each have a great weekend!:flowerforyou:

Good job Snowflakes! and have fun on your road trip!

I am also going to be taking a little trip away from the scale (a delayed anniversary get-away for my hubby and I - just to a casino/hotel not too far away - but for all the prep work for my parents to come and stay with the kids, and get them to and from all their activities - we may as well be flying somewhere for a week! ). I will have to weigh in Sunday morning.... but don't wait for me to declare this week's biggest loser (for one thing - I don't expect much loss).
Tonight we will be going to a seafood buffet, and a fancier restaurant tomorrow, I'm not too worried about that because I have a good idea of what I will be choosing, but will really have to watch what I eat for breakfasts and lunches. I did workout this morning for on hour at the Y ... so plan to eat most of those exercise calories tonight, and I will make use of the exercise room at the hotel too. I'm more concerned about the drinks I will have ... for one thing I'm not used to using calories for alcohol much .. and I'm not used to drinking at all lately so will need to be careful. I'm thinking a vodka & diet soda might be a lower calorie option, any other ideas?

(... and my 'old friend' cheese)

I hope I don't offend you because I mean this in a not-bad way -- Last night I was at the grocery store and the cheese was on sale 3/$5... and I bought 3 but only 2 of them were made with 2% milk because I *really* wanted some pepper jack. :embarassed:

So I got home, and I was so excited about my pepper jack but it has 110 calories for 1 ounce. :ohwell: So, rather than sarcrificing any other part of my dinner, I thought I'd just have 1/2 ounce. My poor little sad 1/2 ounce serving of cheese. I took the smallest bites ever just to really savor it. But, I thought about you. It was seriously all I could do not to go back and eat that entire block of cheese. I don't know why I torture myself by bringing goodies like that home.
