    5'9", 254 as of today

Newest total has me at 1590, down from over 1700 when I started. Lightly active at work, plus exercise 2-4 days a week. Depending on hunger I may or may not eat back all of my exercise cals. Have had no problems dropping weight so far, have lost 35 pounds since January 1 (being so overweight, I'm dropping faster for a bit but it will level out soon).

I'm 5'4", weigh a lot, and I usually eat over 1600 but under 1700 a day (unless I get in a lot of exercise). I had a bad day today calorie-wise and am quite a bit over (don't know how much exactly) but usually that is what I aim for. My calorie intake is set to lose 1 1/2 pounds a week.

5'8 and 118 lb; eating 2200-2400 a day. Not trying to lose or gain.
  • 5'6" 128 lbs i eat anywhere from 1200-1800. I think it's good to switch it up a lot, instead of having the same amount every day. This'll help keep your metabolism up and running. I hadn't been exercising for awhile, but I lost 22 lbs pretty much just through food. Now going to the gym a few times a week for cardo/weights to see if it'll make more of a difference, as I am hoping. Good luck!:))
  • too many! im 5'6" and went from 130 to 106 lbs eating 1300. i increased to like 2200 and ive put on 5 lbs in 3 weeks :/ i guess thats a bit too high for me

I plugged your stats into MFP's BMR calculator and your BMR is 1,450 calories. BMR is the number of calories your body burns just to stay alive. Put another way, it's the number of calories you would burn if you were in a coma.

Never eat below your BMR otherwise you'll mess up your metabolism and have a whole host of new problems to deal with.

Edit: find MFP's BMR calculator by click on the Apps tab, scroll down and look for it on the right hand side of the screen.

Or your body needs time to reach a healthier weight--106 is not likely a healthy weight for you.
  • 5'9", 243 lbs and I eat ~1600 calories, with 30 minutes of cardio three times a week. As long as I stay on the tracking wagon the wright comes off at about 1-1.5 lbs a week.
  • 5"4, 112.4 pounds.
I eat around 600 - 900 calories a day and my BMR is around 1200 - 1500 calories. If i was more active it would be 1800 calories.
since i first joined here i dropped 4+ pounds, only from eating healthier, now i'm exercising a bit more i'm starting to see the results on my body.
I want to get down to 105 pounds, and the way i'm eating now seems to be working good.
I would start drinking green tea, and alot of it. Though there's no hard evidence, it's definitely aided me in weight loss, aswell as boosting my metabolism.

1,600 now max because I was told 1,200 was too little. I'd rather plateau eating 1,600 (and cut back) then plateau eating 1,200 (and cut back further).

38 years old, 5'2" 134. I was shooting for 1200 but did the whole TDEE thing and am now going to shoot for closer to 1600-1800 on the days I work out (fairly vigorous cardio/strength exercise for 60-90 minutes). So far haven't lost any weight which is frustrating so trying to find my sweet spot. I've only ever lost weight by cutting calories, but as I've gotten older and my hormones have gotten a little wacky, that doesn't seem to work anymore :-(

1200-1400 most days, probably 1600 once a week. I was doing 1600 daily but didn't lose that way.

I'm 5'6 and about 161 (maybe a bit less now) and I eat 1500 most days, sometimes less, sometimes a little more. I don't eat back exercise calories, and I workout a lot. I used to be on 1200 a day, and when I upped to 1500 I lost weight at a slightly faster rate.
  • I'm 5'6, 149 lbs. My job is pretty physical most of the time, but also not exactly full time, so I set my activity level to lightly active and log particularly strenuous work activities. Plugging my data into MFP gave me a 1710 calorie goal, but because work is a bit quiet at the moment, I took it down to 1650. Not that it makes much difference, I'm over and under it all the time, but my weekly nett is usually about right. I also work out in the gym 2 / 3 times a week, and go dancing once a week-ish, but because actual burn is only roughly estimated by the gym machines, I only eat back cardio calories, not strength training calories. It seems to be working for me at the moment, started 11 weeks ago and am down 7 lbs, and definitely look smaller!

I get better results when I eat 1400 calories on nonworkout-days and 1600-1800 cal on workoutdays. I am 5'10, so I can eat a bit more since my allowed calorie intake when not on a diet is 2100 and a bit.

I tried 1200, but in my thirties that stopped working. Working out and a nonstrict diet (besides the calorie intake) works best for me, it seems.

I'm 5'7 162ish and I eat anywhere from 1560-1800 a day to lose about 1lb a week. I eat more on days I do a lot of exercise and less on rest days / days I'm just no hungry. I will never go back to anything less than my BMR on a regular basis (BMR=1560ish)

5'8 and a half 1800-2000 cals/day workout 3 times a week. About 150 pounds, 10 to lose but more focused on body fat %. It's happening slowly but I'm not miserable, I can drink wine and eat chocolate.
