I saw the rheumatologist specialist yesterday finally and got the official confirmation of my diagnosis of my Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Oh joy.:grumble: He was a nice doc and I'll enjoy working with him. He did bring me down a little in that he told me I'd probably be on Prednisone for the rest of my life (ugh) and he also started me on Fosamax for bone loss which I'll take once a week.
What I am most disgusted about however, is I got on the scale today and I am up 5 lbs! YES! 5 lbs! I can't blame water weight or hormones or anything other than an out of control appetite this week and an upside down sleeping habit where I was getting up at 4 am and drinking cups of warm milk and eating snacks.
With this threat of bone loss, I have to commit to walking MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY that I ever have! Please feel free to nag, chastise, threaten, shame, mortify, tease, and otherwise motivate me! I'm so-o-o lazy!

Sounds like you are dealing with this all okay. I know the Prednisone was a huge issue for you so sorry to hear that is sticking around. Hopefully the Fosamax won't have to horrible side effects. Hang in there all will work out. I will not chastise you but I am sure you can get those 25 walks in for Dec just start small and work your way up :flowerforyou:

I often hear many of you talk about Fibromyalgia, Arthritis etc. I wanted to let you know of a resource that helps but it is not popular because it doesn't make money for pharmaceutical companies. My mother has Systemic Scleroderma, related to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, etc. She should have died over 15 years ago, but because of this simple treatment, she will be 77 on Sunday. The following is an excerpt from the home page of The Road Back Foundation.

The Road Back Foundation's (RBF) Website includes information and support regarding an important and often overlooked treatment option for rheumatic and related diseases. The particular focus here is antibiotic therapy, proven safe and effective in NIH-sponsored clinical trials. Thousands of patients have reported successfully using antibiotics for conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, dermatomyositis, ankylosing spondylitis, Lyme disease, Reiter's syndrome, mixed connective tissue disease, fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis. Results of an international survey of patients documented dramatic results including relief of pain, the lessening of swollen joints and an overall successful return of quality of life.*

I encourage any and all of you suffering with these debilitating diseases to research this. I will be glad to answer any questions that I can. Robin, your diagnosis made me think of this and although it is not one listed it appears to be very similar to the diseases listed and antibiotic therapy beats Prednisone.

Mymowmow- I too began to think I might actually be small enough to use ready made patterns again without having to make major alterations.

i'm so sorry, we just got back from a grandpa funeral a couple of days ago. that's always such a loss. thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
@Toots: I think you're right we get to thinking that we can just do whatever and somehow still keep losing...not so much. Still have to work at it. I know this. Thank you for that :

i kind of think it's human nature to do that with everything though. our jobs, parenting, it sucks that we have to be on all the time to be adults  i think i need to be 12 again

JT so sorry for your loss.
Ugh! The peanut brittle is really biting me today. I hope that I can get in a walk because I won't get to eat much for dinner if I don't!
I guess my goal better be to get a better handle on these Christmas treats. I have avoided having things around that I shouldn't eat, but that's pretty hard during the holiday season. I just have to buck up!

Sorry to double post but I did a quick before and after pic and wanted to posted it. The picture from last year is my work ID photo.

I find these really important to me. When I look in the mirror I rarely see a difference and I get frustrated and want to give up. It's when I do these before and after pictures that I realize how far I've come and it helps me push past the sweets and treats and focus again.

You look fantastic. What a difference. Great job and keep up the hard work.

JT- Sorry for your lost. Sending you hugs and positive thoughts.
Robin-sorry to hear about the Dx. I hope you can find a treatment that works for you. Just keep walking. Maybe you could organize a meet up group for other women who want people to exercise with other people. Then you can meet up them at different locations. Meet up.com has lots of groups for a variety of reasons.

Well, I can say that I have released a lot of excess water weight over the last day since I got the flu. Yesterday, I managed to get home from work but I left early and slept for a couple of hours. Only to get sick when I got home. I took today off and will be staying home tomorrow as well. I need to sleep. Needless to say, my exercise plan for the week will need to be revised. I am not doing much right now and I am watching what I eat. Don't want to over do it.

My goal is to get better and rest so I feel like going back to work.

    Hope everyone stays well.

Had to say good-bye to my sweet Pebbles today. She hasn't been eating well last couple of days and when I came home from work her eyes were dilated and she was pretty lethargic & her breathing was really labored. Ran her to the vet immediately, ran blood work to check her kidney function and her BUN doubled since her kidney failure dx in July - her calcium was up as well suggesting cancer, vet also detected a heart murmur. At 17, the only answer was to let her go. She was an amazing, loving cat and I will miss her sweet face.

kah, Sorry about your pet. I know they are like family.
Well, I did walk, but forgot to change shoes and now have blisters on the balls of my feet.:grumble: I did walk at the school indoor track and it was really nice for a cold day. Sure glad that it is there.
I'm so sorry about all of the health struggles so many of you are having. I hope that you will soon feel better. Robin, I hope that you will be able work out a strategy for your treatment so that you will still have a good quality of life. I know you are a fighter.

    Kah,
I'm so very sorry. My boys are the most important thing in my life and really are furry little children to me. I can only imagine how upset you are.....
  • @mymowmow - hardly recognize you in your new profile picture! wow, and i thought your earlier transformation was impressive!
@toots, jt, and kelley -- so sorry for your losses... so hard to lose loved ones, human or otherwise. hugs to all.
@robin - sorry about the dignosis and continued prednisone. did you walk today? (only asking, as instructed)

I had a decent day today, got some work done, did a bit of wii fit, ate pretty well, got some dental work done -- being numb and in pain seems to help with the snacking,

  • In need of some motivation! I am stuck in a rut! I am a stay at home mom of 6yr old, 3yr old and 5 month old and i am having such a hard time staying on track! I know what i need to do but i am struggling! I managed to lose 26lbs but i didn't gain anything while i was pregnant and managed to come out of it the 26lbs lighter, as strange as it seems that was easy for me to do. I am now struggling to keep that going. I still have about 100lbs to lose and need some new ideas on how to get myself moving more and eating less!

@jt--so sorry for the loss of your grandmother! sending hugs your way. :flowerforyou:

@kelly--so sorry you lost your dear pebbles--sounds like it was time to let go, but that's still such a tough decision.

@robin--sorry about your Dx, but as others have already said, you are one strong lady and you will persevere. Did you get that walk in today?

@laurie and liz--hope you are both feeling better soon!

Welcome to the newlings! Sorry I didn't respond to everyone--will catch the rest of you later.

    Tuesday Goals:
To do better tomorrow than I did today. If you want to see a horrendous food diary, take a look at mine.:grumble: Sadly, I'm not even sure that's everything. I was really feeling badly about it, and then when I saw all of the losses, illnesses, and injuries many of you are going through, I realized that I'm truly lucky that my biggest woe today is that I ate too much sugar. Not that it makes it okay, but it's an easy problem to fix so I'm not going to over-dramatize it. Just going to commit to making up for it over the next few days. Tweaked my exercise goals to burn some extra calories--will hit the gym tomorrow and run on Thursday (it's supposed to be in the 50's).

    Exercise goals:
    Mon--core work DONE
    Tues--rest day
    Wed--walk gunner + gym
    Thurs--walk gunner + run outside
    Fri--rest day
Sat--walk gunner + gym or run outside
Sun--walk gunner + gym or run outside

    Grading goals:
    1. Re-read 1984 STARTED
    2. 20/22 Create an ad assignments Almost DONE
    3. x/22 vocab quizzes
    4. 35/48 AP journal reflections

Hi everyone I just wanted to sincerley say thank you for all the kind thoughts and messages. It has been a very long day but we are all hanging in there. She was the last of my grandparents so that makes it a litlle extra hard. I spent a large part of the day cooking food to take to my mom and dad. I give love with food. My parents will be flying back oon Friday for the funeral. My grandma and all my extended family live in Illinois. While they are gone all the girls in the family here in Washington are going to go over to my parents house and get it all cleaned up and decorated for christmas as a surprise for them when they get home since there will be so litle time left . Christmas has always been my parents favorite holiday so hopefully this will help to cheer them up a little. Anyway I am just kind of rambling here so again ty to all of you for being the kind special people that you are. Oh and Kelly I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. It is a terrible thing to have to make that kind of decision. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I have so many wonderful memories of my grandmother who died way too early of breast cancer. I was only 12 and there wasn't much treatment back then. It broke my heart to watch her die. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family during this time.

Good bye sweet Pebbles. I know you were a part of the family and was loved for many years. I'm so sorry for your loss. You did the right thing by being a responsible pet owner and letting Pebbles go before she was in too much pain. I'll be thinking about you. I know it's a sad time for you.
