I am just joining this thread, I need to lose 100+ lbs. I will be 30 in March and really want to get to a healthy lifestyle and turn my life around before it is too late. My weekend was pretty decent. I didn't get any exercise in but I did eat well, even with going out to lunch and breakfast. I'm looking forward to getting to know people and help support ya'll!

Welcome! You've found the best thread. I've been on here about 4 months. Everyone is so supportive. The thread does move along though so try to check in daily even if you can just browse through. On the first page, Robin has listed some daily ideas so each day we have something to check in about. The thread will have to move soon so just watch for the next round from Robin. This is the only thread I follow because of the positive people. No negative. Lots of laughs. Personal ups and downs. Weight losses and gains. Hope you enjoy the group and I look forward to getting to know you!!
  • Just getting started but I think that this will work...
  • Hi all - Im about halfway through reading through this thread and thought I'd jump in too. It's so nice to see so many supportive people here.

I've been overweight most of my life, and am queen of, Ill start tomorrow, next week, next month, after the holidays, etc. Or Ill have a cheat day that extends to a week and I just give up. Basically I go along thinking everything's fine as long as I feel fine, but I had a health scare a few weeks ago, which was a big wake-up call to make some major changes. Im on a few new medications, and have cut out all soda and most fast food. Breafkast on the way home is my weakness. I did get a side salad from Wendy's last week - I love their lemon garlic ceasar dressing :P. Ive found that measuring everything out and using my food diary is really helping to keep me accountable for what I eat. I slipped this weekend and went overboard on a few things, but am back on track this week. I work nights, and tend to 'graze' during that time, and am trying to be better about that, or at least having healthier things to graze on, heh. Probably what I'm struggling with most is finding motivation to exercise. I have a treadmill in my living room even, with the idea of walking while watching tv, but that hasn't happened yet. I get bored very easily when walking around the neighborhood. I'm also considering joining the Y, which is practically in my backyard.

My Wednesday Wishes are: To stay on track as much as possible during the holidays and not get defeated if I'm not losing as quickly as I want to. And to someday do more traveling (I've never left the US except for Canada and that almost doesn't count) feel comfortable wearing a swimming suit in front of people.

    Happy Day.....

@Kelly- Sorry about your Kitty I can not imagine having to make that decision. Our Kitty slid into the wall last winter and died instantly. So I know how hard it can be to lose a furry pal.

Wed Wish- I wish one time your life could be like the movies. Like when a person in a movie wishes for something and it just comes true. I just want one wish that's all just one.

Had to say good-bye to my sweet Pebbles today. She hasn't been eating well last couple of days and when I came home from work her eyes were dilated and she was pretty lethargic & her breathing was really labored. Ran her to the vet immediately, ran blood work to check her kidney function and her BUN doubled since her kidney failure dx in July - her calcium was up as well suggesting cancer, vet also detected a heart murmur. At 17, the only answer was to let her go. She was an amazing, loving cat and I will miss her sweet face.

So sorry for your loss of your baby........sigh..........

Wednesday Wish::: Well my wish is that the idea I have for a work out schedule, actually happen and become a schedule. I enjoy working out so why am I being so lazy lately!? I don't know. But this weight gain has me down. Yet at the same time I just want to go munch on things and drown my sorrows. Wow it's ridiculous.
Like this morning I woke up hungry and in the past few weeks i would have grabbed something like a pop tart or stopped and got a muffin. I left the house before i did anything and waited until I got to work and am now drinking some coffee. Hoping this hunger holds off until lunch.
I have been trying to just have 2 cups of coffee for breakfast and nothing else, Mon & Tues went fine this morning I am hungry though so will probably eat a little something.
I just wish I could understand what has changed in me. I know going so long without a loss really got me down and then I just feel like whatever because I feel I will never get there. I see all these success stories and wonder really how everyone did it. It's not easy at all and I know this. I just need to get back to how i was earlier this year.

    Good Morning.

Thanks everyone, I miss her terribly and the house is way too quiet! Didn't sleep worth a lick last night, even with the sleep aid my new doc prescribed me on Monday. Ugh! Its just going to take some time.

Well, I was bad this morning. I had no appetite last night for dinner - felt really hungry this morning and the hospital was having a breakfast for tenants in the professional buildings so I went. I ate way more than I would have normally and way too many carbs - should be in a carb coma soon. I did it, its done, now I just need to make wiser choices the rest of the day - with left over bundt cake from a birthday on Monday and a retirement celebration this afternoon its going to be difficult.

Wednesday Wish~To not feed my feelings today! I also hope I'm not too tired for the gym this afternoon - I missed my workouts on Mon/Tues and feel like it, I need one today or I'll have to answer to myself and my trainer tomorrow!

Welcome to the newbies that have stopped by.

    Kelley

@Robin~So glad to hear you got your walk in yesterday, keep it up. Its really important for women to do resistance/strength training so you might try doing some at home also, just find some exercises that won't exacerbate your condition.

@Tina~You need to have some breakfast - its gets your metabolism started. If you aren't a huge breakfast person, grab a piece of string cheese and a piece of fruit but you should have something in the morning. Also, if you start the day with protein you are less likely to crave carbs the rest of the day...

how sad. i have a 14 year old cat i've had that whole time and i'm dreading that day which i know will come in the next few years. funny how important they become to us. hugs.

right about when the restraining order comes through ;)
In need of some motivation! I am stuck in a rut! I am a stay at home mom of 6yr old, 3yr old and 5 month old and i am having such a hard time staying on track! I know what i need to do but i am struggling! I managed to lose 26lbs but i didn't gain anything while i was pregnant and managed to come out of it the 26lbs lighter, as strange as it seems that was easy for me to do. I am now struggling to keep that going. I still have about 100lbs to lose and need some new ideas on how to get myself moving more and eating less!

welcome. i'm a sahm to three as well.
Just getting started but I think that this will work...

Would it help to eat a good solid breakfast? I know that half a container (3oz) lowfat yogurt over a half of cup of granola keeps me FULL until lunch. It's a LITTLE higher in calories than I used to eat for breakfast but I stay full enough to skip my 10 AM snack so it balances out. Just sayin', it might help ease your morning hunger in a healthy way and give you a better start each day.

Tina - I agree with Kelley you need something for breakfast beyond coffee. I've been eating lazy pre-cooked bacon. It seems expensive, but it works out to 37 cents a slice, and I think that's cheap when you're dieting. And there's no carbohydrates in a few slices of bacon - its all carb free! Plus it keeps me fuller than a carb-ridden breakfast. Maybe you could give it a try?

Wednesday wish: I wish I could magically get an extra week before Christmas. I still have lots to do! I haven't put up the tree, done my Christmas baking, mailed the package to my son in CA who won't be here, and my daughter and her family will be here from WA in one week. YIKES.

Sorry about the double post. I accidentally hit something that posted me before I was ready. I wanted to say welcome to the new ones. This really is a good place to be. I hope that those who suffering losses will be comforted.
I agree about the breakfast. I don't always agree with Dr. Oz, but he says the best thing you can do for yourself is eat an egg every day. An egg, a piece of whole grain toast, and a glass of milk keep me going all morning. I agree that some protein is a key to success.
    Have a great day. Kaye

I so need another week also. I just put up my tree but baking was done with friends like always. I have only bought one gift and some have to be mailed out this weekend.

To add to my stress, my dishwasher has been broken since Friday. Because of the small town we live in, I wasn't able to get a repairman here until today. He had to order parts, and it looks like the earliest I can hope to have it fixed is Dec. 21, 2 days after the company gets here. UGH!
On the upside, I enjoyed the indoor walking track on this cold wet day.

@ Tammy -- so sorry to hear about your grandma. Do try to look after yourself. I think decorating the house is a lovely idea.
@ Kaye -- I've been so careful with shoes. And now I'm doing longer runs I'm thinking about whether I need technical running socks (mucho spendy) as well. But I have regular walking shoes, and boots for if I ever get out onto actual fells (we don't have many fells in London...), and running shoes, and specialist badminton shoes, and cross-trainers (for Zumba, or exercise classes), and cycling shoes. And the upshot is that I have not had one single blister since I started. An indoor track! That's lush. And I too am about to start panicking about Christmas. I know it all does get done in the end, but my kids are like 'when are we getting a tree Mum' (I hope Friday) and I need to get everything into a list.
@ Tracey -- welcome! My top tip would be just to log everything, get a bit of exercise every day, and then just take one day at a time. If you have a bad day, just mark everything down and reckon the next day will be better. It can be hard exercising when you've got tinies but just running around after them all day helps. This thread is full of people who are here for the long haul, which really helps.
@ Roger -- welcome! That is a big fish...
@ Cherie -- I think the thing that has always done me in in the past is sticking to a plan in the week and then stuffing it up at the weekend. This time I've mostly kept on track through weekends -- when I do go over I try to log it so I can make up the calories later. And lots of exercise, oh yes. I try not to think about how I look in a swimsuit; but I console myself that it's a whole lot better than I look out of a swimsuit! And I like swimming too much to give it up.
@ Kelley -- sorry about your dear cat. Sometimes you know it's just time.
@ Tina -- I think the evidence suggests that having a 'proper' breakfast is good for you and makes it easier to stick to plan. I know I'm less hungry when I have eggs for breakfast. Or sometimes I have a slice of toast with bacon and avocado. Good luck making that workout schedule!

Wednesday wishes -- gotta get back on track; the overall pattern here is not good this week. Too much food, too many carbs, not enough exercise, a bit of lip service too. It's these cold dark days that do it (it's really dark here no; it doesn't really get light till about 8 and it's dark again shortly after 4). It's not Christmas treats, either; just regular old unhealthy living. It's not showing up in the scale yet but it's bound to if I carry on. I have to do some computing coursework but then I am totally getting on the Wii to get my cals for the day back in balance.

And a special wish for all of you who are dealing with hard times, family illnesses, and bereavements; that you find peace and comfort as we come up to the holidays.

Tomorrow is Alison's Super Busy Not Gonna Be Getting Much Exercise day -- I'm visiting one of the sixth forms we're thinking of sending my daughter to first thing, then gotta be back so the groceries can be delivered, then getting my hair done so it has time to relax a bit before Christmas, then son has a medical appointment, then we got 4 free tickets for a screener of Life of Pi... and then it's bedtime. Though somewhere in there I suspect there will be burritos. Because life isn't full enough of food at the moment.

    -- Alison

Robin- Amy saw a rheumatologist specialist on Monday and got a shot of that pred... stuff and she has been much better since. She would be so sore that she would cry when she woke up. She has been much better and has to take one pill of that stuff you do not like and I can not spell for two weeks and then 1/2 a pill each day after that. The rheumatologist specialist thinks she does have rheumatiod arthritsand I think it should be confirmed by the blood test she had with him on Monday. It has been a long time that she has been in bad pain and atleast the rheumatologist specialist is easing that pain. Hope yours gets better.

Sorry to hear of all the people having losses (Toots, JT, KAH)

Kaye - sorry your dishwasher is on the fritz - thats really unfortunate especially with the timing for Christmas visitors - - maybe the dishwasher gods will smile on you and you'll get your parts early -

karenleona - sorry you're dizzy - better hang onto the lamp post and don't venture too far !

Holly - I'm not really afraid of falling when I walk, I just hate walking all together. I'm just terribly afraid of everything in the world including going outside and walking where strangers can see me. I could walk in my building but I make excuses like there's a door every 35 steps and its a pain - sigh - oh me oh my - I'm a big lazy baby and my recliner and me have a love affair going on -its ridiculous really, and my illness is a wake up call to get active!

Tom - the diabetes info is really good! Just another wake up call for all of us who skip breakfast!

ps. I got a Disney Dance Party for my Wii today. Will do some dancing before retiring tonight. Also got a good walk in today YAY!

Will have him try next time he swings by. Rats - no dancing tnight. Oh heck, I'll ad lib just a little bit during the 12-12-12- concert tonight!

Kah- Sorry to hear about your kitty. It is so hard to lose a pet.

Robin- Dance, dance, Dance tonight during the concert.

Tina- Like many others have said you need to eat breakfast and protein is the key. If you don't have much time in the morning just hard boil a bunch of eggs and keep them in the fridge to grab quickly. Eggs whites and turkey if you have time to cook or a quick milk shake of skim milk and Whey protein powder. They will help keep you full longer and give you energy to get through the morning. I have not lost any real weight for at least a year now. It is frustrating but I just need to believe that it will drop away again.

I am feeling better after dealing with the flu. I did lose some weight but not back down to my lowest yet. In one way, I am grateful that I did not lose a large amount of weight this time with the flu. I think I dropped about 5 pounds as of this morning.

Wish- is that water would taste good to me again. With that said, I need to start drinking my water again.

Dance Robin, Dance!!! with or without music!!

Tom- great info on diabetes. I know that by improving my diet and exercise and losing weight i have been able to come off my diabetic and cholesterol meds for over a year and have normal blood work

Made it 2.5 km for my walk down to the coffee shop for tea then back home. Was glad i had my walking poles cause i was really dizzy but did not fall or walk in circles and really enjoyed the fresh air. Came home and iced my knee but it is good now
