I definitely need to find some time to work out this weekend. I had an AMAZING dinner tonight. A great perk with our company is whenever we open a new restaurant they do a pre-opening and folks who helped get it ready get a FREE meal. We're basically guinea pigs for the servers. Oh darn!! Tonight was our new opening of Ruth Chris Steak at Harrah's. So Yon our server was awesome and the food soooo good. I'm stuffed!! Lobster, steak, salad, asparagus, - yum!

    Good morning everyone!

Fell asleep super early (for me) last night--it was barely 10 pm. :noway: Gunner woke me bright and early, so I've already been awake for a few hours and had my breakfast. Need to take gunner for a nice long walk today before I head t the gym for my 4 mile run. Tomorrow we are supposed to get an ice-storm, but then it will be 50 degrees by Tues.--crazy chicago weather!

After the gym, I need to grade a bit and then will be going out for dinner and drinks for a friend's b-day.

    Exercise Goals:
    Mon--gym (weights + bike) DONE
Tues--walk gunner NOT DONE (too cold/windy) + core DONE
Wed--walk gunner NOT DONE + gym RAN AT HOME INSTEAD
    Thurs--walk gunner NOT DONE
    Fri--rest day
Sat--walk gunner + gym (long run)
    Sun--walk gunner + core

    Grading Goals:
    1. 30/56 Reading Journals
    2. x/56 JRP thesis statements

    Good morning.

I am still sick  but the good news is I was down 4 lbs. I have been eating and not being active at all. I can't explain how that could be possible. Maybe I'm dehydrated. I have been drinking a lot of water because the Doctor told me to with the antibiotics.

I took my car in yesterday and decided to let them fix it. They gave me a Dodge minivan rental to use while my car gets fixed. It is nice to have a new ride even though things have changed a lot since my car. Maybe the difference is Ford and Dodge but it is way different.

I hope this medicine kicks in and I feel better for work Monday.

Best wishes to all of you!

    Good Morning.

I fell asleep kind of early too - was watching Dateline and missed the final verdict. :grumble: Zoe wore herself out out playing with new toys, so she slept really well last night and even let me sleep a little later this morning. She's been playing hard all morning and now has fallen asleep for her morning nap. Now if someone could just bring me some coffee! I'm heading to to gym in about an hour for a 3-4 mile run and then spending the afternoon with friends.

Saturday Success~Secretly I wanted a 2# loss this week to make another milestone, but I'll settle for the 1.4# I got putting me at 105# loss overall.

Kah - Here's your coffee - :drinker: :drinker: two cups to really get you going!

Tom - I hope you start feeling better, poor baby! It is fun to drive the newer cars, isn't it? All the bells and whistles, eh?

This morning I am suffering from "waxed upper lip" syndrome. I waxed my own hairy lip last night and it is as red as a lollipop today, and I am at the BF's. He looked at me and said "What's wrong with your lip?" I didn't tell him the truth......... the redness hopefully will be gone soon!

Have been busy trying to sort out my dad’s hearing aid problems by long distance. This tends to be a somewhat frustrating experience at best. :grumble: :noway: :grumble: As soon as I’m finished I’m going to make a cup of coffee---the second one!

KARENLEONA – great job at the gym. Heck, I’d be well beyond mellow; I’d be jello. :flowerforyou:

NACETO – glad you had someone get the door back in working order. I’ve never installed an alarm system with monitoring but I did put up a little thingy on the door that buzzes when the door is opened. Since I sleep upstairs I thought it would be a tiny warning to get on the phone and lock my bedroom door. I’m probably deluded---yeah, I’m sure I am. I hope nothing like this ever happens again.

SUSAN – wow, you have Bowflex and a punching bag to use? That’s great. A lot of stress and tension could go flying away by using those tools. :glasses:

SKINNY – I’m always amazed at how much you accomplish…..working, grading, grading, grading, going out, walking the dog, running. Yipes! Our forecast is for ice tomorrow morning so I’m staying home and plan to look for a new soup recipe. Ambitious plan yes? HAHAHAHA.

TOM – I’m sorry you still are not well but amazing loss! Woot!!!! That is wonderful.

KAH – congrats on your loss. Sorry you didn’t see the end of that program. Can’t help you----not only was I not watching that channel---I fell asleep while trying to read a book that I *really* want to read.

ROBIN – sorry about the lip. I’ve never done that so am unacquainted with the pitfalls.

A double wish for BE SAFE, BE HEALTHY and drink your water.:drinker: :drinker:

    Quick update:

@Lin -- thanks for the kind thoughts! I didn't feel incredibly fit as I took 50 minutes to run 3 miles on Thursday, or while the 'tail runner' was *walking* behind me in the parkrun this morning! But hey, look how far I've come.
@Kristen (and other Starbucks lovers) -- you might like this site -- http://www.hughchou.org/calc/coffee.cgi . So not only do a lot of these posh coffees have a ton of calories, they're a massive drain on the wallet too. Still love them though, so I know where you're coming from. (I mean, we spend £40/month on *coffee beans*. So even drinking coffee at home isn't a trivial cost). Sorry for whatever's going on at your work.
@Susan -- your dinner sounds really, really yummy. That *is* a brilliant perk.
@Tom, Vicki -- hope you're back on your feet soon.

OK, Saturday success -- well, I'm already celebrating the SV I'm going to have on Monday... I think my body really likes getting back on track with exercise and eating lots and lots of healthy food like winter soups. Plus although I'm slow, I'm running again, so that's good. And the sun is shining and it's well above zero! About time. Now, I'm just going to quickly do 30DS, and then have a shower, and then I'm going to two different concerts, one after the other, today. One a lecture-with-songs on the life of Woody Guthrie, and then I'm volunteering at the English Folk Dance & Song Society.

    Enjoy your Saturday, everyone!

  • @kelley, tom, and lin!!!! - Great scale victories!!!!! So inspiring!!
@nicole - so sorry to hear about your break-in! that can be so unsettling! i hope your sense of security is intact now that your door and windows are secured.
@robin - you must be getting pumped up for jamaica, especially with this cold weather we've been having! and yes, i think when i'm starting to run, being able to breathe will be important! :)
@laurie - good to hear that you're making such great strides in the gym with your new trainer!
@kvandeest - great job walkng the store!

Well, I might be deluding myself, but I think it's finally warmed up enough (mid-20s, lol) to go for a nice, long walk with my youger doggie on the trail near my house. after a week of almost-no exercise, it is much needed! i hope we don't freeze out there! saturday success is that even with my fairly sedentary week and a couple calorie overages, i've maintained my loss from last week... here's hoping that holds until the "official" monday weigh-in. Happy weekend to all! Get out there and move however much you can!

Good Morning. I am glad Robin posted about the lip problem. I have been considering removing the hair from my upper lip, but maybe I need to be a bit cautious. Thanks for the warning.
You are all so inspiring. I have nothing outstanding to report. I did go for a walk at the track yesterday. Weigh in is tomorrow. I hope that I have lost most of what I gained last week. It is still cold and slick. It is above freezing, but it rained last evening, and froze sometime during the night, so there is a thick coat of ice on everything this morning.
Hope those who are ill will be getting back to normal quickly.
I have some projects to get done today, so I had best get busy. Have a great day. Kaye

Lin- YAY on reaching 101! You should be proud of yourself!

Robin- I have the same issue with waxing facial hair. I turn into tomato face. I swell up and it is crazy! I use ice and then cortisone cream after a waxing- not the best thing for you, but it works for me to get it to heal more quickly. I have also found that while the initial pain of plucking is more drawn out during, after I do not experience tomato face nearly as bad. I use one of those spring plucking things on my lip area- which hurts, but is a little easier on my skin for the most part. It's like this one- http://www.amazon.com/R-E-M-Spring-Facial-Hair-Remover/dp/B001FXUTUM - Caution though- my friend tried it and said she will take tomato face any day over that tool.

Saturday success... I survived. The week I turned 40 I ended a pretty toxic relationship (for me it was toxic- he is not a bad guy, just not the guy for me), had the most terrific birthday party, had my house burglarized, and recognized friends that I never knew cared. (A guy I used to see, who I have remained on good terms with, came over the night of the burglary and stood guard over me so I could sleep a few hours. He was a complete gentleman and genuinely concerned about me.) Another person (a coworker a barely know) drove to my house at 2AM (when he got off work) to bring me a laptop cord, since my home cord was stolen. Those are just a couple of examples of what great people I know. Oh! AND I am down another 2lbs which puts me a pound less than when I fell off of the weight loss wagon in October!

If you know me, then you know I try to find the lesson in everything that happens.

    10 Lessons I have learned since I turned 40:

    1. I have so much to be grateful for, that won't as easily be taken as my "things" were.
    2. Surround yourself with nice people; I know some of the nicest people.
    3. Don’t expect that what is important to you will be important to others... or that others will respect what is valuable to you.
    4. Sometimes “I love you” is too easily said (which is okay).
    5. Surround yourself with people who believe in you. I have the absolute best friends and family (I already knew this, but it must be said).
    6. Replacing cholesterol meds not covered by insurance is not that expensive. (Sorry burglar guys, probably not a lot of street value either).
    7. It is okay to ask for help.
    8. Algebra can be figured out... but other people sometimes can't or don't want to be and that is okay.
    9. I am a survivor and bounce back fairly quickly... always a little bit stronger.
    10. Always use a deadbolt.
  • Hey guys. It's Saturday and I'm trying to be in better spirits. I think sleep helped some. Looking forward to seeing my college roommate and her daughter. Today I cleaned out my closet and found clothes that were over 10 years old. Crazy! They were still in good shape so we're going to donate them. I don't have that many clothes that fit well since I wear uniforms to both jobs so I think I might take myself out shopping to see if that helps. 2 days of not working out due to crazy work schedule really put me in the slumps and I went all out on a Mickey D's meal. Not looking forward to logging that! I am trying to muster up some courage to do my workout today. We will see.

Kinda struggling with some personal things so if you are close to the good man upstairs, send one up for me and the family.
    Thanks.

@kvandeest, kristen, drojen, rachael and all of the other "newish" folks--CONGRATS on sticking with us!! :flowerforyou:

@kristen--as much as it sucks, just log the McD's. It's good to see the "damage" and sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised that it wasn't as bad as you thought. Hope your spirits lift soon!

@nicole--congrats on getting to your lowest weight since joining! I love your 10 lessons--sometimes bad things happen to remind us of all of the good we have in our lives. :flowerforyou:

@lmackbeth--we also had our 1st day of "walkable" weather in a few. Cold, but bright and sunny! :glasses:

@alison--yeah, I justify my starbucks spending by reminding myself that I've NEVER owned a coffee maker and don't drink coffee at home. At least I'm not doing double damage. I also have one of their gold cards, so every 12 drinks = one free drink. It doesn't make up for all the money I spend there, but it's something. :ohwell: Congrats on the SV around the corner and glad your weather has turned for the better.

    @vicki & tom--sending healing vibes your way! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

@lin--Thanks, though I don't feel like I get much done at all! I'm always sacrificing one thing for another. Years ago, I made a selfish decision to not have children, and I married a man who likes to cook and clean which helps a lot. I'm fairly certain I could never keep up with housekeeping if I lived alone. :blushing:

@robin--hope your WUL syndrome isn't too uncomfortable for too long. Seriously, the lengths we women will go to for beauty's sake!

    @kelley--great SV! :drinker:

Ok, so I'm supposed to be grading right now--just looked at the clock and I only have a half hour before I need to leave for my friend's b-day. Definitely NOT a saturday success. Probably won't be back on tonight, so everyone have a nice evening!

Hi all!! I didn't check in allll day lol but I have been reading what everyone is writing.

@kristen- I agree with skinny on McDonald's. It may be the eye opener to deter u from there again. I hope whatever is going on in your life right now gets better soon. Just remember u are a stron woman!! :) if you need to talk, feel free to send me a private message

@robin- I hope your face clears up soon! That's not good :(

@lin- you are so inspiring to me. I hope that I can have a great success like you and I appreciate all of the positive comments you leave for me. You're such a doll!! :)

@skinny- I'm really in this for the Long haul!! One pound at a time!

Saturday success is that I joined the gym yesterday and ACTUALLY used it today. I brought the kiddies with me( they have a room for them) and I got in 42 minutes on the treadmill. The kids weren't crazy about the room though, but it's better than nothing. I was a bit intimidated by seeing all these male gym bunnies, but I did what I went there for. I have to get used to their treadmills. Gotta figure out how to use some of the settings. My other success is that my kids now love silk. So I picked up a pack of 3 half gallons at sams club. I have been logging literally everything that goes into mouth, even my spices. I don't have a scale to measure exactly, so I use google a lot. I've been using all myeasuring cups/spoons with every meal to get as close to the serving size as humanly possible.

We got some snow last night but it's almost melted away. Going to be super cold tonight in NJ. My poor son has an infection festering on his big toe from pulling out an ingrown nail and he didn't bother to tell me about it until last night, so a big chunk of my day was spent doctoring his foot. I'm hoping peroxide and some bactrum helps. My poor baby.

How much weight does everyone need to lose and how long did it take to get rid of what you have so far?? Just curious. :) That's about it for this gal! I'm hoping to lose another pound by Thursday. Have a great night everyone!!! Please stay warm and get well soon for those that are sick.

Ok, antibiotics, prednisone, ibuprofen, LOTS of tea.... I almost feel human.... bad thing is, I'm really worried that a run of prednisone might derail me a bit....

Husband is baking bread... smells too good. I will have a slice later, but only one. Now, the clam chowder, that's another thing altogether..:noway:

It has been raining all day... steady enough to have street flooding.. so much for Arizona being a dry state. I ran out for a bit for a few things, and had a little retail therapy (ok, Goodwill half price day). a little NSV producing. Bought a pair of jeans as an experiment - 16W - and they fit nicely (so why don't my 18 plains fit that well???), and a gorgeous dress for 'motivation'... but when I tried it on at home, it already fits pretty well (a little boob-squishing, but I didn't have one of my better bras on)... the dress was marked 13-14!!!! (no manufacturer's size tag left tho, so I don't know how accurate that is). My last "motivaiton dress" fits (size 16), but I bought it for spring, totally not appropriate for winter.

Haven't worn those sizes since High School....:noway: :noway:

I hate the whole waxing mess. Between my brows and lips - HATE it!!! If I had the money, I would get my lip zapped. I have a friend who got everything done (pits, legs, bikini, lip) and never has to shave. That would be heaven!!!

SUSAN – wow, you have Bowflex and a punching bag to use? That’s great. A lot of stress and tension could go flying away by using those tools. :glasses:

Yes, I'm spoiled and I don't hardly use them. We actually just got the punching bag last week, but we've had the BowFlex a little while. I just couldn't stand 2 minutes without having to stop. Now that I'm 50 lbs lighter I'm working my way up steadily. I've never been good on the eliptical either and this is a combination of eliptical/stairclimber/treadmill. I guess I just wasn't coordinated enough, but I am slowly working on it. The punching bag was really for my son, but I'm going to take full advantage of it. Lord knows I could start kicking and hitting the heck out of things. LOL!!!

My success this week would be continuing my running plan. For me, there is just something about running. It makes me happy. It makes me feel like "super girl" or something. I can't explain it. It just makes me feel better about myself. Seems silly when I'm only running a total of 4minutes so far. Like I said, I can't explain it, it just makes me feel great. Remind me of that should I ever need it, ok?

Saturday success - Hmm, thinks are trucking a long. I went out after dinner last night and blew 2k calories..... so that stunk. Today I got into the Twizzlers but I threw in a extra workout (1/2 hour yoga) to burn them off so the day is at a deficit. I guess that's my success.

Now I get to go made dinner, clean the litter boxes, and feed the boys.

Saturday Success: Another week is marked off the calendar. Work was somewhat OK. I'm still a bit stresssed with it, but I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle. Eating is OK and I stayed under my calories most days EXCEPT Friday night and my free meal. Yum!!! I was really proud of my exercise activity as well, but need to keep it going over the weekends too.

While my weight loss journey is OK, I did get some very tough news this week. Some of my very dear friends who are truly my family got some devastating news. For 6 months, my friends husband has not been feeling well. They were in the emergency room at least 6 times and no one could find anything. Well, after this last bout of excrutiating pain they finally put their foot down and demanded more testing. Unfortunately, the test came back with cancer. It was found on his liver, but they believe started in his colon. He starts aggressive chemo on Wednesday. I'm just devastated by this news and praying for God's will that everything is found and cleaned out. He's only 39 and they have two kids who are 7th grade and a senior. If you can keep them in your thoughts and if you believe in prayer, please lift the ****inson's up. Thanks guys!!

Success- I went to the gym today instead of just relaxing and did 5 miles on the bike in about 15 minutes. Not bad and I also did a mile or so on the track. I mixed the walking with the a little jogging but my legs felt heavy so I could only do a half lap each time around. I will take it. Tomorrow will be my rock climbing day. Friday night was cancelled due to snow not a lot but just enough to complicate road conditions.

This coming week will be extremely busy so I am trying to pack exercise in early this week, knowing that I will have few days of no exercise due to meetings.

Robin- waxing is a pain. Try cooling the wax a little more before applying it. I know that if wax is applied to my lip that is just a little to hot I also turn red. The other option is to apply Neosporin to the area after waxing. I tried the lazar approach and that failed miserably for me. It really hurt and the hair still came back.

    Grading goals-
    7th grade benchmarks 17/29
    8th grade benchmarks 30/90
My report cards are due by January 31. The school year is officially half over. It is moving very fast this year.

My house looked nice enough. No one is running out to get my home nominated for any cleaning, organizing, or decorating awards, but my house wasn't an embarrassment either. I don't think anyone called the producers of "Hoarders" or let the former producers of "Dirty Jobs" know that they missed one.

Saturday Success--- I put my needs before another's wants this week. Rewind..... A family member is staying with us again.... This week he put coffee cake in the cart (like he did the last time he was staying, only more so then), and I expressed that I already said I can't have that in my home. I told him if he wants something, to get a single serving donut or pastry from the bakery section for himself, but not to put an entire coffee cake in my cart. (I still have Pepperidge Farm cakes in the freezer. I"m not perfect. But in the freezer, I don't think about them until I get unexpected company or forgot to plan dessert (like today) for expected company.) I felt a bit guilty, since I DO have some stashes that I haven't used, but that is all the more reason we don't NEED coffee cake, right? I DO have something..... Well, anyway, the coffee cake didn't get home, he did get a couple of donuts, and even though today I had a piece of cake (big piece I counted as two...), I didn't bring something I didn't want to be tempted with into my home.

I know. That rambled. It may not even be a success (since I had the frozen cake today....), but I'm glad I had it in me. (He'll say "What about your husband....?" and that time I said "I've talked to him and he chooses to support me....". Which kind of makes it seem bad, again, that I had the PFRVC... ) I guess I feel like I may have negated any success I had this week, but I don't think I should. I made a choice. I chose not to add to the stash I have at home. That counts for something, I hope.

The positive of my week was I got my modivation back to live my healthy lifestyle. For about a week I went back, partially, to my old ways of no portion control. And, even ifI had portion control I was still eating processed foods.
A couple days ago, I started packing my lunch with whole foods and feel so much better. My fridge and freezer was full of healthy foods, all I needed to do was actually eat what was in there.

Is your ticker the finale for you? If so, you're only 26 lbs away - AMAZING!!! I'm so glad I found you on MFP and you were gracious enough to be friends. You inspire me every day with your food choices, exercise commitment and overall attitude. I cannot wait to see you reach your goal. You've worked so hard and deserve every single kudos!!!!

Thanks, Susan, for the kind words! No, that isn't my final ticker - in fact, I just updated it. Right now I have the goal I want to reach by the end of the 90-day weight loss challenge at my gym. If I make that goal, I only have to set the ticker one more time, my actual goal weight.

@Helen~Absolutely that is a victory, kudos to you for having the gumption to say something in the first place. You should be proud of yourself - frozen cake or not! :glasses:

@Rachael~Awesome that you joined the gym, you'll feel at home there in no time (as will the kiddos).

@Vickie and Tom~Hope you both are on the mend and feeling better soon.

Well, I'm off to bed very soon - early tomorrow morning is my resting metabolic assessment at the gym, so I need a good nights sleep. My friends wore Zoe out playing this afternoon, so think she;ll sleep well.

Helen, Good for you for standing up for yourself and saying no to your relative bringing food into your house that makes things difficult for you. Its your house and he should respect what you are trying to do. Doesn't matter if you had a peice of cake, thats your choice and not something that was forced on you by someone elses decisions.

I'm happy to say, I got off to a good start on my week off and my decision to purge my house. I started this morning with my first real workout snce starting back on this journey. I spent 25 minutes working out on my Wii. The I started in my kitchen and got 2/3 of my counters cleaned off, and my fridge cleaned out. I got distracted midafternoon and started cleaning the living room. Got my dusting and vacumning done and even cleaned my ceiling fan (a job I really hate). I managed to get the last of my Christmas decorations put away too which I know is pretty bad (to still have them out) but I did it. Tonight, I went outside and shoveled my driveway.

I'm done for today but I'm going to start back into it tomorrow. Bathrooms tomorrow. There are 3 of them. I'm going to try to head back into the kitchen tomorrow too and do floors (not getting down on my hands and knees though, the artificial knees won't allow it). If I get through that, the main entry and hallway are next. If I can talk myself into another workout, I'll do that first thing in the morning.

Don't know where the energy came from but I'm going with it while it lasts. I think its just that I don't have to go to work and I can do what I want when I want. Boy, retirement isn't coming soon enough. Have a great w/e everyone. Charlotte
