Louisa - welcome - 37kg - you're doing great! Glad to have you join our thread. We love to support each other.

Kaye - sewing and cleaning - and coming under calories - you are inspiring me!

It rained last night. Got to the dog park and it was literally 2 inches of thick mud, churned up like whipped cream, with no other dogs around. I let Layla have her run, but I stood stock still. Still ended up with mud up to my knees but to see her race was worth it!

Saturday Success- I was sick the last couple of day... mini flu... (Bob had maxi flu last week, and mine isn't so bad...). For the first time since I can remember, I didn't feel guilty about letting people down when I was sick. (I was supposed to help at Church with the Fish Fry, etc...) I didn't even tell myself the "no one wants your germs" stuff I usually do when I am trying not to feel guilty. Even my subconscious was onboard. Where I would usually dream that friends were mad at me for letting them down, I dreamt they told me to take care of myself because I'm more than what I do! My new year's resolution was to put my own health before the wants of anyone else. I feel like this lack of guilt is a sign that I'm being successful in that!

@helen--that's an awesome success!! I was also down with a mild case of the flu this week--it's definitely going around.

@robin--sounds like a fun (if dirty) visit to the dog park. We are getting lots of rain this weekend and combined with the melting snow, it's sure to be a muddy mess outside. Gunner just had a bath today, so he's sure to romp around in it tomorrow. :ohwell:

Turkey burgers turned out good, but I couldn't get myself psyched up to do any grading. I'm posting my grading/prep goals for tomorrow--maybe it will help motivate me. I have 57 Junior research papers to grade between now and the end of the month. I do NOT want to put them all off until spring break, so my goal is to get started on them this week--I'm going to set a lofty goal of 10 for tomorrow.

    Grading goals:
    1. x/16 punctuation tests
    2. x/16 writing assignments
    3. x/10 JRPs
    4. finish re-reading Gatsby
    5. finish typing up Gatsby theme assignment

Well I did climb last night and tried a new route or two. They were good climbs but I may have climbed one to many routes, had a hard recovery this morning. The morning trip to the gym with my trainer did not help either but at least I did get a great back and chest workout in. The best news was that I have lost a half inch from my waist. I will take that loss over weight # on a scale any day.

Work out goals for this coming week.
    Saturday (gym) Done
Sunday- Swimming or biking with a friend I hope if not gym
    Monday- Gym trainer
    Tuesday- Gym
    Wednesday Rest
    Thursday- Gym
    Friday- Rocks

I will update March goals tomorrow.

Thanks guys. I think I was just having a woe is me pity party. I haven't gained anything, but I haven't lost in a month either. I'm just not making the most nutritious choices or exercising like I was either hence no loss. Today felt good to get refocused and made good choices all day so that's my Saturday success. I'm come too far and worked too hard to just throw this away. It's just so hard being patient, but I know these changes have to be made a regular part of my life.

Super busy day though. Cleaned the whole house top to bottom, completed 5 loads of laundry, took Izzy for an hour walk and spent 5 hours at the ball park for Cyrus (pictures, opening parade and first game of the season - they won!!). Overall, it's been good, but I'm pooped!!

Hi, I'm not sure any of you remember me but I'm back after a few months away (I was here in the fall, October). I fell off the motivation wagon. I still have over 100 to lose. In fact I restarted my entry weight this morning by deleting my fall entries (I'm only 4 lbs less from where I started when I joined MFP anyway).

I am going to try & conquer my carb/sugar addiction by trying the South Beach Phase 1 for the next 2 weeks. Today is day 1. I can't even put into words how hard it will be for me to give up 1) soda and 2) bread/potatoes/pasta. I'm insulin resistant so I've got to change my way of eating forever. My fasting blood glucose in late January was just 3 points away from being pre-diabetic. I have gained all my weight these past few years in my middle. I'm hoping a good loss for these first 2 weeks will help motivate me to eat only sensible carbs when I reintroduce some after 2 weeks.

My Saturday success is I got out on my elliptical and had a good 45 minute workout. Without any carbs this morning for energy! Ok that's not much of a success I suppose but since I'm starting over, I wanted to find something positive that I've done so far.

Hi Susan, from Las Vegas yes? I remember you from when I joined last fall. I'm sorry I've been absent all this time & wasn't here to cheer you & the others I met here on. You can stop the spiraling! You've done so well to lose over 40 lbs.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Sunny here in VA after that big snowstorm on Wednesday, not a trace of it left, yay.

Hey Kitty!! Welcome back. Yes, it's Susan from Las Vegas and thanks for remembering. I've had some good success, but had some road blocks along the way. The holidays were not good and I gained 10 lbs back so quickly. By the end of January, I lost the 10 lbs and was back on track. It's a constant battle, but I feel there's more positives than negatives. I never stopped logging through ( just received my 205 days of logging notice - Woo Hoo!!). Plus, I've tried to stay connected with this group too and they have been my sounding board and bring me back to my senses. Even if you get down you have to keep communicating with us. We're all here for each other. I'm glad to see you back and your 45-minute exercise was awesome!! I can barely do 5 minutes on that crazy machine. I'm basically just walking, but really need to start upping my exercise. We CAN and WILL do this!!!

@Louisa - Welcome!!! Congrats on the 80 lbs - AWESOME!! This will be about my halfway point too. I'm not quite there yet. I've lost 44 while tracking with MFP, but lost some before that so I'm at 60 right now. It feels great, but had some bumps along the way too. This group has helped me get through those plateaus and when I'm throwing myself a pity party. Tomorrow we'll do Sunday Share and you'll learn more about each of us. You've found the best group in my opinion. Enjoy!!

@Laurie - Awesome news on the waist loss. It's so great to start seeing your hard work paying off not just from the scale. Good for you!!!

@Robin - There's a big convention in town this week, Catersource. I've got suppliers in so I'll just need to make smart choices. Monday night is Nobu at Hard Rock so I can focus on fish or light sushi. Tuesday will be a bit more casual since we're going after my son's baseball game. I think we'll go to Sammy's Woodfire Grill and I'll get a thin veggie pizza with a side salad. We haven't picked Wednesday's place yet, but again I'll try to focus on a fish dish. Normally, they let me pick the places so I just need to pick places where I can know my menu ahead of time.

@Helen - Glad you're on the mend. It's so funny how we're all so different. To be honest, I don't remember one dream. I've heard everyone dreams, but I truly don't remember a single thing. I guess that can be good too.

@Skinnyjean - Yes, I'll be in Chicago from May 17-20 attending the NRA (National Restaurant Association), which is the largest restaurant show in the world held at McCormick Place. I'm staying at the Crowne Plaza off Madison. It's a crazy weekend, but a great chance to network and see folks in the industry. Glad you're feeling better too. Be careful not to overdue it though.

My projected weight-loss now says I will be in ONEderland in 5 weeks. Wow. That doesn't seem like very long at all. I hope I make it.
It sounds like some of the illnesses are abating. I'm glad to hear that. Good night. Kaye

@karenleona--that's so great that your knee has healed enough to do the rowing machine!!! :drinker: I've been eyeing those at the gym. I think it's the one machine I haven't added into my rotation b/c, as you said, it looks boring. However, I've heard it's a great full-body workout, so I will probably work it in eventually.

@kaye--I remember the day I got that notice--such a great feeling!! I'm so happy for you!

@susan--you should have really nice weather for your visit (provided it's not rainy).

@laurie--congrats on that loss from your waist. I agree it's a much better success than losing lbs. I've been losing on the scale, but I haven't seen a loss on the measuring tape in ages. I would trade quite a few lbs to see my waist measurement go down. No worries though--we know it's all connected, so eventually your scale will move and my tape will get tighter.

    Sunday Share:
I'm Karen from Chicago. I've been on MFP for almost 2 years. YIkes--I just realized I will be at my 2-year anniversary this week! :noway: If you hadn't figured it out from my "grading goals," I'm a HS English teacher. I'm married with one big fur-baby: my boxer/shepherd, Gunner. I've been a part of this group since July 2011 and it's been an integral part of my success. This group motivates and supports me, and it also gives me a sense of accountability. Even though I know everyone here supports me when I screw up, I don't want to let myself and others down, which spurs me on when I'm feeling lazy.

I managed to finish re-reading Gatsby last night, so that's one goal checked off my list. However, I need to get going on the others--I'm really feeling that lost hour due to daylight saving time.

Sunday Share: For those of you who don't know, my name is Susan and I live in Viva Las Vegas. It's really not that exciting and were just another city. Our suburbs are just like any other suburbs except your neighbors could be limo drivers, exotic dancers, card dealers, or probably work in a casino somewhere. . . LOL!!! I moved out west last April after 18 years in Atlanta to work for Caesars Entertainment. I'm a single mom to an awesome 10 1/2 year old son, Cyrus.

I started taking control in January 2012 when I weighed 325 and lost 25 lbs really fast with Medifast. The food was awful so I just started cutting portions and exercising, but not following any set plan. With the move, I was living out of a hotel and eating out for 2 months. I gained back 9 lbs and just tried to maintain. Last August the dietician with my new company introduced me to MFP, which I had never even heard of (hard to believe). I have not looked back. Today I received my 220 days of logging notice, which in itself is a HUGE accomplishment for me. I was right on track August through October, but hit some plateaus and then the holidays. I gained 10 lbs, but lost those 10 by the end of January. February was a tough month with another major decision and that was to change job. I'm so thankful this other door opened because I wasn't real happy with the casino business. I just finished my third week as the Director of Purchasing & Quality Assurance for Capriotti's Sandwich Shop and LOVING it!!! Today I'm 265 so I'm down 60 lbs, which is awesome!! I would really, really like to be in onederland by 12/31. 60 lbs in 9 months - I can do it!!!!!

Good Morning. I'm Kaye from Western ID. Our little community is right on what I like to refer to as Idaho's nose. Our home is less than a mile from the Snake River. At 68, I seem to be the oldest member of this group. I am retired and love being a part of the lives of my 7 children, their spouses, and 14 grandchildren. My husband and I will celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary by attending the high school graduation of our oldest grandchild on June 11. I joined MFP at the end of September 2012. I expressed a desire to lose some weight before I had a knee replacement, and my daughter told me I needed a plan. I found this group shortly after joining. It is a real lifeline for me. I love being accountable to someone, and I love the support I feel here. The knee replacement was very successful. Walking is my exercise of choice.
I use needlework as a "coping mechanism". It relieves stress and keeps my hands busy. I can't eat and do that at the same time. Another strategy that is working well for me is to divide my weight loss into 25# goals. I've lost 25# twice now so I know I can do it again.
I love Sunday share. I always learn a little something new about everyone.
    Kaye

Good Morning fellow MFPers. Well lets see Sunday share for our new friends. My name is Tammy and I am a wife and mother of three just grown children (22,20,19). My husband is an engineer on a fishing boat so I am frequently talking about him coming and going as he is gone for 2 months and then home for 1 throughout the year. I was a stay at home mom for the last five years due to some health problems that made work challenging and my husban and I feeling that three teens were better with a full time at home parent. Must have done something right I somehow got all three through high school and into college, lol. I have been heavy ever since puberty and then with each pregnancy I just got a little bigger. When I started having health problems I really just stopped paying attention and all of a sudden last August I got on the scale and realised I was flirting with four hundred pounds (378). All I could think of was the way my husband and I used to joke around when we were a lot younger about the stupid things we would divorce eath other over and one of his was if I ever weighed over three hundred and here I was way past that. He has never been anything but loving and suppotive with me but it served as a wake up call. Even better then the weight loss so far though is that I have managed to wean myself off of all my meds for deppresion and chronic pain in the last 5 months because I am not having the problems I had been having since changing my diet. I hope everyone has a great Sunday. Oh yeah My hubby flew in safe and sound last night so I am going to gear up to having a great month spending time with him

Hello - I'm Lin and I live in Central Iowa. Retired and divorced lady, in my 60's. I am celiac, have fibromyalgia, loads of allergies, and osteoarthritis. I've been tracking my eating each day here on MFP since May 5th of 2012. I've lost 118 lbs. At my age I still don't know what my body will agree to do but I am working to lose another 25 lbs. Meanwhile, I've had no migraines for over a year and am off the beta blocker that I was given for years to try to help with that problem. I've also recently stopped taking prilosec which I've also taken for probably a decade. Now I'm down to just synthroid which I will take the rest of my life---I've had my entire thryoid surgically removed due to indeterminate lumps (I was exposed to radiation as a child---long story).

I'm trying to improve my health as much as possible for several reasons---obviously to enjoy my life more, to try to avoid those places my dad has been in the last few years including hospitals, skilled nursing care, assisted living, and now intermediate care, and also I have no idea what will happen with my health insurance at year-end. I may be out in the market hunting for coverage and who knows what may happen in that arena this year.

Right now I'm struggling along trying to get over a fibro flare and I have what may be a few months of dosage tweaking on my synthroid. Overall I feel okay with my progress---I'm no longer taking sinus meds, allergy meds, muscle relaxers, or what use to be my daily friend---mega numbers of extra strength Tylenol each and every day.

I think that's enough. Are you all asleep now???

    Lin

Wow--I agree with Kaye--I love hearing something new (or just getting reminders) about my friends in this thread!

@lin--I can't believe all of the meds you've been able to decrease! I'm sure I've seen you post about it in the past, but when you list them all together it just really emphasizes the great change you've made in your health! :drinker: I hope that fibro flare is gone yesterday!

@tammy--ditto on what I said to lin above regarding meds! Also, I loved your story about your DH joking about divorcing you if you weighed over 300, but then always being loving and supportive. That's such true unconditional love. I had a similar experience with my DH. Shortly after I started MFP, I was talking about how much weight I needed to lose. I had only lost a few lbs at that point, but my husband insisted that I really wasn't *that* overweight. I nerved myself and said "I weigh 235 lbs, so yeah, I need to lose quite bit." His response was "You mean 135." Not a question, a statement. When I said "No, I mean TWO-35," I could tell he was surprised. In his mind I was still the same as when we met--not thin, but under 200. I guess true love is blind.

@kaye--wow--48 yrs married is so great! My parents are at 47 this June.

AFM--I walked gunner and now am at starbucks. Finished goal #5 and now I'm going to tackle those junior research papers. Here I go...

    Hello Friends-

Once again I am a few pages behind I have some personals but will focus on just getting caught up.

I skipped work Friday and hung out it was some what okay got some car stuff done. Sat my success was I actually made it to the gym and my angry forced me into a hell of work out.

Sunday Share- My name is Holly I am going to be 40 on 3/29/73. I have a 16yr old son who just started his first job. I go to school part time to finish my business degree and I work full time for Target HQ. I recently bought my first house and this is my 3rd attempt on MFP for losing weight. I joined this group a little over a year ago and find everyone very supportive. I currently struggle with my eating but I finally got a fitness routine down somewhat.

@Diana- Congrats on changing your thoughts when talking with your friend. I would agree with the others I recently made someone I was in love with my Ex. I don't even see myself being friends with him because I am not friends with any of my Exs my reasoning for that is they did something bad to me for me to make them an Ex so they don't need any attention from me.My Ex chewed and spit out my heart to and every day is healing for me.
@Helena- If we lived closer I would work out with you. As an adult I have a hard time making friends too probably because I am such a loner.
@Sherrie- Hope you feel better soon
@Robin- Toothache rub clover oil on the tooth it will take the pain away. You can get it at any health food store.
@Jtconst- Congrats on the improvements in your physical fitness
@Laurie- Prayers go out for Joe
@kah68- Pear tree that is interesting and convienent

My name is Laurie and I live in Maryland. I have been working at losing weight for over 2 years. The first year was very successful but the second year has been a battle in losing weight. During my journey, I have discovered many new activities such as rock climbing, frisbee golf, curling and now I enjoy exercising and clothes shopping. You will also see my grading goals posted again in the near future since my intern will be moving to the high school next week. I will then be back to teaching my 7th/8th graders science. It will be nice to start teaching again but at the same time I did enjoy the freedom from grading and planning lessons. The things that help keep me accountable are working with a trainer weekly and this thread. It helps me to stay honest with myself and to strive to reach new goals.

    March challenges
    1. Water between 15-18 cups a day. Being met- Weekend are still hard but today was good.
    2. Add mobility exercises back into my routine for back and shoulders at least 3 x's a week. Good when I work out and warm up but still need to work on this during non- exercise days.
    3. State the positives in my life, especially when I do better on a reoccurring activity. Positive comments is coming along even as I wrote the intro above, I had to stop and look back and what I have accomplished instead of focusing on the challenges losing weight.
    4. Add 3 days of core work as well. This week not so much so I am planning on getting back to it to this.

@holly--glad you took your anger out in the gym!

Got 5 of my junior research papers graded--usually the hardest part is starting. DH made turkey meatballs for dinner which were delicious, but I'm a bit too full. I logged a snack later, but not sure I'll need it. Did my core work for the first time all week (due to being sick). Held my plank for 1 minute and moved to forearms for side planks, so that's progress.

Sat--gym DONE = walk gunner DONE
Sun--walk gunner DONE + core DONE
    Mon--walk gunner + gym
    Tues--core
    Wed--walk gunner + core
    Thurs--walk gunner + gym
    Fri--walk gunner

March challenges- In Like a lamb- out like a lion
    1. do core routine at least 3x week (wk 1 = 1/3) (wk 2 = 1/3)
    2. add upright rows and shoulder presses to my core routine (wk 1 = 3 sets of 15 reps each) (wk 2 = 3 sets of 15 reps each)
    3. increase hold time for planks (wk 1: regular forearm = 40 sec. and straight-arm side planks = 45 sec.) (wk 2: regular forearm = 60 sec. and forearm side planks = 25 sec.)
    4. increase push up reps (wk 1 = 14) (wk 2 = 15)

    Grading goals:
    1. x/16 punctuation tests
    2. x/16 writing assignments
    3. 5/10 JRPs

I rarely read anything on MFP except this thread. Today a thread caught my eye. I think its "An apology to my body." Its in the motivation and support section. If you can find it, its worth the read. Very thought provoking. Kaye
