Friday fitness: I feel like a wimp compared to the rest of you, but I do continue to get in my walks. I've added 20 min of slow-pace twice a day walking Keith to and from school, plus my pedaler and my 50 min fast-pace walk, so the totals look pretty good. DH fell tonight on our walk, but he did a pretty impressive roll and is fine. He stumbled on a raised place in the sidewalk. He doesn't watch closely enough and he doesn't pick his feet up very good any more so it is a concern. He walks along the edge of the street a lot and I'm thinking that is a lot safer than the sidewalks.
    Have a good night. Kaye

@kaye--all that exercise added up is VERY impressive! :flowerforyou: And remember, it doesn't matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch! Glad to hear the DH wasn't hurt in the fall.

@laurie--nice that you got those papers graded. It sounds like I probably shouldn't take up climbing--I bruise like a summer peach.

@nicole--it's nice that you are enjoying the job so far--I loved hearing about the warm welcome your new colleagues gave you. As for the free food, I feel your pain. At my work, there were donuts at least 2 days this week which I managed to ignore. Then yesterday a colleague brought homemade cinnamon raisin cookies. She DID use half wheat flour, but they were far from healthy--I only had, 1 so I call that a victory. My only advice is to make sure you bring your own healthy lunch and snacks--it doesn't always work, but if you have nothing to eat, it's a lot easier to cave in and indulge in the free stuff.

@pie--yay for getting over to the free weight section of the gym. :drinker: I still haven't gone there at my gym, but I have expanded my use of the weight machines including the pulley ones I see all of the big boys using. I do lat pull downs and tricep work on that machine and I can definitely feel it! Sounds like you have a fun holiday weekend planned--enjoy!

    @tammy--glad you're feeling better. :flowerforyou:

@marca--you are doing so great at c25k!! And yes, once I could do the 20 minute run, I could do the full 5k.

@robin--congrats on the loss! :drinker: You are nearing a HUGE milestone--50 lbs!!! I'm do excited for you!

@kelley--Can't wait to hear how your hair turns out (and maybe a picture? ). One of my close friends has curly hair and for awhile she was doing the dry cut. She really liked it when she was wearing her hair curly. She's gone back to straightening it again, so I'm not sure if that means a different stylist.

@alison--sounds like you are right back at it!

Good morning friends. Well I am very happy to b feeling better and I have the whole house to myself today. Both of the kids are gone to work and its just me me me:bigsmile: I am on the finishing touches of the great painting project. I just got a couple spots I want to touch up and then to put everything back were it belongs. I would like to get that done and some general cleaning and clean out the ever declining pit that is my bedroom. I would also like to clean my backyard but will be satisfied if I get the house all done today. havent had a lot of weight fluctuations since the beginning of the week. You would of thought the stomach bug would have scored me a couple pounds but nope. Just bouncing around in a one pound range. Now that I have made the twoderville goal the next big goal is the one hundered pound mark. I have only around twenty pounds to go so am definitley hopeful to see that one before the end of the year:happy:

Kaye I think you are a super women the way you still take care of your large family and still find time to make these changes for yourself. Happy to hear your hubby effectively tucked and rolled and wasnt hurt.
Marca you are doing amazing on the c25k program. I have been tossing around the idea of giving it a try.
Nicole your new job sounds wonderful but yikes on all the free food. Just try to stay strong and remember we are rooting for you.
Laurie the bike trip sounds like a lot of fun and a much better first trip then jumping straight ona cross country ride though that would definitley be an adventure.

Well everyone I hope you enjoy your weekend and have a great day:flowerforyou:

    Friday Fitness:
I've done pretty good this week considering I'm back to work. I got to the gym on 2 works days, and as I mentioned in my previous post, I've been focusing on more strength training using more machines and heavier weights.

    Saturday Success:
I made it through a tough first week of school. Not tough b/c of the students, but just b/c of the circumstances--a full first week (we often start back mid-week so it's more of an easing into things) plus hot, muggy temps. I also have a student teacher and though I'm sure I will appreciate that in a few weeks when he takes over 2 of my classes, right now he just takes up a lot of my time b/c I need to get him acclimated to the school. Anyway, there were lots of food temptations as I mentioned to nicole, but I avoided most of them. Also, we had a department meeting after school on Wed. but I still went to the gym afterwards. My hope is to continue the gym 2 days during the week and then 1 or both weekend days.

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Yesterday, I had 2 starbucks mocha light fraps :noway: --I got one on the way to work and then my student teacher made a coffee run and got me another later in the day. I couldn't say no to that, could I? After work, I had a few cocktails and split an order of fries with some friends. Then, I came home and ordered the asian food I had been craving since Thursday afternoon. Overall, I was over by about 400 calories which I'm sure I can make up today. I plan to hit the gym and then do some serious grading b/c tomorrow we have plans to go to a friend's party and then maybe visit my niece.

    Grading Goals:
    1. 40/73 Summer reading quizzes
    2. 2/73 Columber essays

    Exercise Goals:
    Sat--walk gunner + gym
    Sun--walk gunner
    Mon--walk gunner + gym
Tues--walk gunner or maybe run outside w/him
    Wed--walk gunner + gym
    Thurs--walk gunner
    Fri--walk gunner

Happy Saturday all!!! Lots to do today and not all of it fun!!! I have sourdough bread rising (I have found that true sourdough made with wild yeasts is ok for my tummy in moderate amounts!!!), I made peach jelly last night and am making grape today (MO has some of the best concord grapes!), I have an easy client meeting this afternoon, and then of to my parent's house to play while almost the whole family is together!!! Tomorrow is Mass (I still have not picked music:embarassed: ),and a BBQ to meet my son's girlfriend's family. Mon., I am headed back to my parents' for a little more visiting!!! So, if anyone would like to rob me you now know when would be a good time.... but please don't break the window, the door is unlocked. And if you find valuables in my house let me know where so I can look for more!!! LOL!!!

jtconst: I am SO glad you are better AND have a day to really focus!!! And be glad you didn't have a loss from sickness... they never seem to stick around anyway!!!

Carla: Have fun at the ball game!!! Stadium food is part of the fun so just budget it in your goal and you will have a great time with no regrets.... well except the sodium.... but that is a temporary situation!!! I would SO like to try Zumba someday... but I am afraid my lack of all grace may make it more of a comedy routine than an exercise routine!!!

naceto: WOW!!! Those are some MAJOR temptations!! The good news is, after resisting all that you will be prepared for ANYTHING!!! I have to keep reminding myself when I am tempted that exercise can't erase my bad choices.... I can't out run my fork!!!

Robin: Thanks for the uplifting words!!! Your encouragement means a lot, as does all the encouragement I receive on this thread!!! I hope that the meds are doing more help than hindrance.... I wonder if that is where the grumpies came from. I so need to add squats to my routine... great for the old knees!!!

skinnyjeanz: As a homeschooler, I am impressed with how many students you keep up with on a daily basis!!! It was all I could do to keep up with my own kids in that area!!! I am so glad to hear I am not too far behind the curve with the 5K looming ever closer!!! I am also glad to hear that I am not the only crazy person to start running while still heavy!!! Everyone seems to think that if you are not a stick, you can't possibly be a runner!!!

Laurie: I think the bike ride sounds WONDERFUL!!! Though it is likely not the best choice for a dizzy chick like me:noway: !!! I have enough trouble staying up on my own 2 feet!!! I hope you can get a group together though... I am looking forward to following your progress and being there in spirit!!!

Kaye: You are my inspiration!!! When I feel like I don't want to get out there, remembering that you have are out there walking and have been since soon after surgery, I have no excuses left!!! You just amaze me!!! And your AWESOME weight loss keeps me moving there too!!! Never think you do not have an effect on those around you because your efforts are not the same as others!!! You are working hard and it shows!!!

My Saturday success I have shared all week.... reaching my 25 lb. mark, keeping a steady pace with the weight loss instead of being all over the place like I used to, running well and enjoying the freedom of being able to run at all.... I just feel like a new person!!! And maybe that is because I really AM!!!

Thanks all for the advice on resisting the free stuff! I think I will do as Skinnyjeanz suggests, and make sure I bring plenty of healthy stuff with me, in effort to make sure I'm not as easily swayed to the dark side...

TOPSmarca - YAY for the 25 lb mark!!! Isn't it an awesome feeling? You should celebrate with a new outfit! :) At 20 lbs, I splurged at my local consignment shop and found a couple of things which I had tried on prior to that- which hadn't previously fit me well. You deserve a huge pat on the back! Great job!

RobinsEgg- Soooo very close to 50 lbs! Holy healthy choices Batman- you will win this battle yet! :) Keep up the awesome work! You inspire me!

GrandmaKaye- You are NOT a wimp! I am not one to do squats or run marathons, but I feel major strength in the little things that I am able to do. You seem to do a ton of walking, which is awesome... On weeks like this one, where I am quite frankly a bit lazy... I read about your walking and am inspired.

jtconst- Thanks and I am SO happy that you are feeling better!

Laurie, Skinnyjeanz, and the rest of you educators--- remind your students that APPLES and not cookies, are the way to your hearts

I got my dumb bells last night and I’m going to get a bench in a little while. I should be all set to do some real strength training yeah!

Hope you are all doing well!

Ok guys, it's time for a break from grading.

@tom--yay that your weights arrived! I ventured into the free weights section today to do some arm work, so that was a step in the right direction for me as well.

@kaye--I love that you are Tom's quote of the day!

@nicole--my students know that starbucks gift cards are the way to my heart. :blushing:

@marca--I admit I don't always keep up with all of those students--there are days I feel like I'm losing my mind. I often have students come up to me b/c they told me yesterday they needed something, and I have no idea until they remind me. I've learned to start writing everything down in my plan book--so I put little notes like "Tommy absent Fri--give HW on Thurs." It definitely helps as long as I remember to read the notes.

AFM--at starbucks grading but I really need to head home for dinner. DH is grilling burgers--yum! I plan to finish the reading quizzes tonight and will try to finish the essays on Monday since we have plans for most of tomorrow. :ohwell: I may take gunner for one more walk this evening to help make up for yesterday's binge. I agree that exercise doesn't erase those bad food choices, but a little extra can't hurt either.

I think I needed a down day this weekend so today was it. I did make it to the gym this morning and managed to motivate myself to use the ARC trainer then the spin bike. I should have done some running drills but just did not feel like it after I started to attempt it. This afternoon, I managed to get my nails done. I decided to try the gel nails so I will see if they truly hold up without chipping for 2-3 weeks. I am not sure they will hold up to rock climbing since that always manages to chip my nails.

    Plans for the week:
    Sunday- Rest day DONE
Monday- Trainer long run 2.5 miles DONE
Tuesday-Gym weight NOT DONE REST DAY
    Wednesday- Rest day DONE
Thursday- Gym- cardio and drills NO Drill, light cardio DONE
    Friday- Climbing DONE
Saturday- bike I hope no Gym DONE

    Week of 9/1
    Sunday-Bike Ride
    Monday-Rest
Tuesday- Trainer session (long run or drills)
    Wednesday- rest
    Thursday-Trainer session
    Friday- Rock climbing
    Saturday-gym

Hi All. I need to catch up with the thread, but here is a pic of me with my new hair. I'm not sure I can ever style it as well as he did but I'll try. Its hard to make out, but there are a few blonde highlights as well, to "cover the grey" as he put it! :noway:

Kah - LOVE your hair - but boy do you have a lot of it - I hope you can manage it yourself from this day on - having volume has always been a dream of mine - but I don't envy you the amount of time you have to put into taming those locks!

Laurie - so sorry you weren't feeling it at the gym today . Hope you like the gel nails - they are pretty strong - let us know if they survive rock climbing - that would be pretty strong indeed.

I can not seem to get my heart into doing my upper body work out - its been twice this week now that I've skipped it. It hurts when I do it and I am wondering if its the bursitis in my shoulders from my polymyalgia rheumatica that is flairing up again that is making me not want to do it. I'm fine with my squats but I dread doing the upper body work to the point I make my self sick thinking about doing it. I literally wiled away the day on the computer for 4 hours today avoiding it.

I did learn some disgusting things on MFP about what is listed in the food listings - did you know sperm etc is listed ???? :noway: I'm not KIDDING! :ohwell: give me a break! but I guess people are really good about counting their calories, and the horizontal mambo is listed somewhere under calories expended. SHEESH :smokin: and smoking a cigarette burns 4 calories (SKINNY - I'll bet you never counted those calories!)

I went out to a MEET-UP GROUP tonight that was for Board-Games and had a blast. We met in a Pub and had drinks and food and broke up into 3 groups and I played Scattegories with 6 women who were all very nice. There were men there too but they were playing kill 'em games I didn't understand. We played from 6-8:30 then I left to come home and watch the tail end of the Nebraska - Wyoming Game. Go Huskers!

Saturday success? I think today will be a maintenance day for me. We had our traditional waffle breakfast this morning. There was a birthday party with cake and ice cream for 9-year-old GD, along with hot dogs and chips. Tonight is the Boise State University football game so DS, DIL, DD, and SIL are making "football food", none of which is very calorie friendly. I did get in a walk around the short loop before kickoff, but I am already nearly to 1200 calories and the game hasn't even started!
Thanks for all of your kind words about my walking. I guess that I need to remember that I am old enough to the mother of a lot of you who are rock climbing and weight-lifting. Thanks, Tom, for using my quote.
So onward and downward. Have a good evening. Kaye

Hi All, I've been away from MFP for about 8 months and have just restarted my journey. Due to health problems I fell off the wagon and unfortunately am starting back where I started 3 years ago. I am so angry at myself for not realizing sooner how bad things were but the past can not be changed. I'm starting fresh and hope that you will all welcome me back to the group. I'll review the day to day stuff but there's no way to read back all those months. I'm going to give you a quick review of myself especially for the new folks who don't know me from before. My name is Charlotte and I'm in Ontario, Canada. I've just turned 59 this month and am a single woman with 2 grown kids and 5 grandkids (1 more on the way in January). I have struggled with weight problems since my 20's and have tried just about everything. I had great success here on MFP 3 years ago but ran into some health issues last year that derailed me again. I have a whole list of health issues including 2 knee replacements, several prolapsed discs and arthritis. I am a full time working nurse on a surgical floor in a hospital just outside of Toronto. I love to read, travel and spend time with my grandkids. I used to love gardening but am finding it too hard now as I can't kneel down d/t the knees. I live alone except for my furbaby. She is a tortoise shell cat who I inherited when my Mom passed 5 years ago. I promised Mom I would take care of her and its sometimes a struggle as she is not the most sociable cat. She is used to me but hisses and spits at anyone else who comes into the house.
So, thats about it for me. I have a long way to go to get to my ultimate goal but I'm happy to take 1 pound at a time. I am looking forward to seeing who's still here on this forum and to meeting some of the new people. If you would like to friend me, I'm happy to accept new friends who need encouragement and can offer some back.
Have a great Labour Day w/e everyone. Charlotte

@charlotte--Welcome back!!! :flowerforyou: It's so good to see you here again. I thought of you this summer when I had a 6-hour layover in Toronto. Here's to a fresh start! :drinker:

@kaye--sometimes those days just happen. I had a similar issue yesterday--went over by about 425 calories, but tonight I'm leaving approximately 600 calories on the table to make up for it (and give myself a little cushion for the party I'm going to tomorrow  ).

@robin--I say if the upper body workout is causing you pain, maybe just focus on the squats. No sense making yourself sick over it--that will just create negative associations with all exercise. Do the parts of the workout that you still enjoy or that don't hurt. You can add the other exercises back when the pain subsides. About the smoking--yes, smoking cigarettes burns calories, but so does breathing! I know you were just bringing it up as a joke, so my sarcasm isn't directed at you, but at whomever added that to the database. Why on earth would anyone list that as activity? It would be like logging every moment you stand throughout the day as "exercise." People are so silly--and the listings you saw in the food database proves it! Glad you had fun at your meet-up group--I LOVE board games! DH and I used to play often but have gotten out of the habit lately. :ohwell:

Still haven't gotten back to grading tonight--doubt it will happen at this point.

Thanks, y'all! Yep, there is a lot of hair (well, a little less now  ). For the most part I haven't used a dryer on my hair in over a year, unless I planned to use a flat iron and straighten it. To do it like this I need to use the hair dryer with a diffuser, so that will take some extra time. He did a dry cut (good for us curly-haired folks); told me a different way of using my hair gel and to exercise some patience when styling it. So, we'll see how it goes. I liked him a lot and his prices are reasonable so scheduled another appointment for November. I think Zoe is still trying to decide if its really me. LOL

Afterwards I went to visit my grandmother (and mom who has been staying with her); she is going downhill and is pretty much bed ridden now. It was a harder visit, but I'm very glad I got to see her and visit with her. I know she enjoyed my visit as well.

@Carla~Good for you for making it over to the "big boy" section of the gym! Taking the first step is the hardest part.

@Robin~Glad you enjoyed the meet-up group, sounds like you had fun!

@Nicole~Sounds like it has been a fabulous week at your new job. All that food would be hard to be around. I think, as Karen suggested, it would be a good idea to take some snacks and lunch - maybe that way it will be easier to turn down the goodies. If that isn't possible, just try to make healthy choices from what is available. Remember that you are in a transition here, so allow yourself some time to become acclimated to your new environment - you'll get into a rhythm soon.

@Charlotte~Its fantastic to see you! Glad you found your way back, we've missed you around here!

@Karen~I could NEVER turn down a free frap!

I made it to the gym today after all, I woke up early enough to get a workout in early - did some running drills, so it felt great!

    Exercise goals this week:

    Sunday~Training DONE!
    Monday~Training DONE!
    Tuesday~Rest Day
    Wednesday~Training DONE!
    Thursday~Rest Day
Friday~Run/walk Outside & some housework DONE!
Saturday~Running Drills on Treadmill DONE!

    Everyone have a great night!

kah--love the picture. Your hair is beautiful.
Today didn't turn out so bad after all. I wasn't very hungry when the football treats came out and I was busy putting together my GD afghan so I just had a couple of tastes of things, and came in under my total if I include exercise calories. Could have been much worse. Now if the scale would just start of move more consistently!
Onward and downward. Good night. Kaye

@Robin -- you are just doing so well at the moment! I think that 'oh gosh I don't want to do it' feeling with weights is normally a sign that you have been overdoing it a bit. It shouldn't hurt, other than that good 'I'm working out' sort of pain.
@Marca -- I'm so glad you're having such success with C25K, you're running faster than me now I think!
    @Tammy -- Glad you're feeling better.
@Nicole -- Sounds like the new job's full of risks. Just make sure you log all that free food and I'm sure you'll be fine.
@Kelley -- love the new hair! I'm not sure there's enough blonde in the world to cover up my grey any more...
@Charlotte -- welcome back! You've taken the most important step, right? And I was only a few days behind you (but luckily didn't let it go too far this time).
@Kaye -- isn't it a great feeling where you go out to an event that you think will be really hard, and then you keep in balance? I love it when that happens; I just feel so proud of myself.

Sunday Share: well, it's been a long time since I've been around. I'm Alison, and I'm a married 48-yr-old mum of two teenagers. We all live in Walthamstow, East London. I've been doing this for about 14 months now! But I had a bit of time off. I try to do half an hour of exercise every day except when I don't, and I encourage the kids to do so too. I don't much mind what, but I particularly like walking, dance, badminton, cycling and swimming, especially swimming in the open air. I have been running too; I wouldn't say I like running but it's amazingly effective. And I lift dumbbells sporadically.

I've been going slowly mental since the kids got off school, but they're going back on Wednesday! Hopefully life will get back to normal then.

Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend, especially all you people with a holiday on Monday.

    Kelly- nice hair!:drinker:

    Charlotte - Welcome back eh!:flowerforyou:

RobinsEgg- I used to have a group that played the board game RISK, I loved taking over the whole world.

@tom--yay that your weights arrived! I ventured into the free weights section today to do some arm work, so that was a step in the right direction for me as well.

@kaye--I love that you are Tom's quote of the day!
Karen good for you getting some arm work in! My arms are pretty bad looking since the weight drop. They need lots of work hence the new workouts which are getting more geared towards full body workouts because my whole body needs it. I love Kaye's line "Onward and Downward", it has become my new mantra O&D!

I am going to assemble the new bench today so Monday starts the workouts officially. I am going to start easy and see how I do. I’m trying to go slow so I do not hurt myself. The workouts from my blood pressure machine manufacturer’s website has the workouts with a description of each exercise and a video from the front and one from the side perspective.

Quote of the day:- “Fitness – If it came in a bottle, everybody would have a great body.” ~Cher

Hope you all have a healthy holiday weekend,

Good morning and happy Sunday folks. I hope everyone is having a good day. I am getting ready for a girls day with my sil, neice, and daughter. We are going back toschool shopping for my 10 year old neiceand all hangig out together. We will probably get lunch and then get our nails done. We did this last year kinda on the spur of the moment and she had so much fun she talked about the day all year so of course have to do it again:happy: I finally got my house whipped back into shape yesterday. My son is supposed to put the baseboard back on while we are gone and the never ending project will be done:bigsmile:

Quick Sunday share. I am Tammy wife of twenty years and mother to three grown kids. The oldest is out on her own and the next two are graduated from college and actively looking for careers in their feild so they can get out and start their adult lives. My husband works in Alaska and we live in Washington so he is gone two out of every three months.I started on MfP about a year ago when they were featured in womens world magazine and havent looked back. It isnt always easy and there are ups and downs but there is no way I would go back to the way I felt a year ago.

Kelly your hair looks super cute.
Laurie I was thinking about trying the gel polish today when we went to get our nails done. I literally usually chip them within 24 hours:grumble:
Tom your workout looks impressive. I think you will enjoy the strength training. I know it surprised me when i did:laugh:
Charlotte welcome back. You were missed.
Robin I agree with what others say. If you dread that part of the workout so much just give it a rest. Otherwise you will start avoiding all the working out due to association and you have come to far to do that.

Alright I gtg and get this hair tamed before everyone shows up. Have a great day guys.:flowerforyou:

Charlotte - BIG HUGS - so sorry to hear you've had health problems ! Gaining weight back is a curse I've had to bear too. We shall work together on this. I feel bad that you still have to work on a surgical floor with your bad back but you know what is best for you. I'm so glad to "see" you again - dear friend!

Kah - So sorry to hear your grandmother is bedridden now. glad you got a good visit in with her.

Boho - "Going mental" until the kids are back in school, eh? I guess that's a common state of affairs for mothers during the summer.....all that constant jabbering

Tom - your new workout plan seems very sensible and a great way to start - I hope you have rest days in between. I didn't think I needed them, but I had them anyway. As far as the squats go, I haven't hurt anything yet........
OH - Tom - measure your biceps when you start so you can see progress!

JTConst - your girls day with your niece sure sounds like fun and so relaxing!

Thanks everyone for the advice about upper body lifting - I am going to just drop it for now until I get my prednisone med levelled out. Its dealing me fits now and even this morning I woke up and my hips are hurting - that is NOT a good sign - it means the dose is probably too low. The doc is trying to get the dose to the lowest possible one so the side effects are minimal but the dose is still effective. I have to stay on this low dose for a month and give it a good college try - so maybe this hip pain will go away in a few days, I hope. If it interferes with my squats the Dr. is going to get a phone call!

Hi fellow-100pound-losers! I just found this thread! I've been on and off this journey a few times but have recently really kicked things into gear and I need motivation to help me stick with it! Sundays a good day to begin I guess, here's a little bit about me!
I'm a married 26 year old aspiring tattoo artist, and mother of 6! I love to draw, write, paint, sing and snuggle my babies! I love to garden though I'm not green thumbed by any means. I actually enjoy strength training...though I haven't mustered up the courage to do much free weights yet, and mostly stick to the machines as of now. I plan to move up to free weights when I feel more comfortable. I hate cardio but I know its a necessary evil...I'm working on building up my endurance and speed with the C25k program this month...not because I want to be a runner...but because if I can run, then I won't have to do it for as long...bwahahaha I currently don't have a scale...it died...might have been murdered, not sure, and I've decided especially given that I'm working on strength training and building muscle, that I'm only going to measure for a while, a long while and base my victories on how I feel and what I can accomplish rather than the number...I've never done it like this before...but since i've always given up before I figure that means it's a good idea.
This is also why I'm not putting time limit goals on myself anymore either for weight. No more "I want to be under this by then" statements or missions for me. I simply plan to concentrate on increasing my personal best every week, in weights, in distance, in calories burned....Eating cleaner, getting my water in every day! And I know the results will come! My birthday is in April! I'll be 27. I just want to turn 27 feeling like I've accomplished something, feeling healthy and happy with who I am as a person. Especially proud of myself for how far I've come even if it's not all on scale victory!
I work out five days a week right now, I have to walk four of my kids to school in the morning, so i just finish the walk to the gym after that with my teenager (she's homeschooled) and we work out! it's 1.2 miles there and back plus what I do at the gym. She has just started working out with me, she used to just sit on a stationary bike and watch tv hahahaha. She is working on bulking up since she's a very tiny girl and gets mistaken for a lot younger than her age enough to annoy her. It's helped me stay motivated having her doing it with me! She may be the biggest difference and the one I needed to finally push myself through the mental road blocks I've set myself. Watching her make progress and be proud of herself makes me feel like a good mom, and makes me want to make her proud of me too!
I look forward to getting to know you all, and to motivating you along your journeys while hopefully staying motivated on mine! :D Happy Sunday all!

Kelly- Love the new hair style. I also have lots of thick hair with blond highlights to cover the grey.
Charlotte- Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your health problems and I hope they will clear up quickly.
Tom- That is a great workout you have planned.
    BoHo-Welcome back.
Robin- I hope they docs get the meds right and soon. Glad you had fun with the meet up group and I also like playing board games but have not done so in a while. Did you meet up with the hiking group yet?
Kaye-Great job on not over doing it on the football food.
Tammy- The girls day sounds like fun. The gel nails are not suppose to chip so after 24 hours mine are still going strong. I also chip mine easily as well.
    LilMiss Tayln-Welcome.

Today, I did get the bike ride in before it started to get to hot. Rode around BWI airport which was about 10 miles and very hilly. There are a couple of difficult hills on the route and they are long ride up. Tomorrow, I am hoping to get another ride in this time going 20+ miles. My friend wants to ride from Kinder Park up to and around BWI then back again. It should be a good ride provided she is able to go before it gets to hot.

    @laurie--the bike rides sound great!

    @talyn--welcome! :flowerforyou:

@robin--I hope the meds get worked out soon and that hip pain goes away.

@tammy--the girls day sounds fun! A nice reward for finishing your painting project.

@tom--my arms need a LOT of work--my ultimate goal is to be able to do dips like the muscly people I see at the gym. I can do the hanging crunches, but not the dips. I can hold myself up, but once I dip down, my arms aren't strong enough to raise my whole body back up. :ohwell:

@alison--glad you will be getting your "me" time back on Wednesday.

    Sunday Share:
I'm Karen, a HS English teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. If you weren't here last school year, let me warn you that I tend to post my grading goals here in the thread. It is not for sympathy. It's just b/c listing them and getting to mark them as "DONE" helps to motivate me.

Today DH and I went to visit one of my oldest friends and his partner. A couple of years ago, they bought a 2-flat in the city and converted it into a single-family home. We hadn't ever been to the house, so when they planned this Labor Day cookout, I told DH we really needed to attend. So glad we did b/c we got to see a lot of old friends and had a really nice time. Food there was delicious, but I managed to stay in control and make good choices. A little bit over today, but I'm even for the week so no worries. Afterward, we stopped by my parents' b/c they were babysitting my niece and we wanted to see her.

Tomorrow I will spend my "day off" grading--it's not ideal but at least I don't have to teach all day AND get the grading finished, right? I hope those of you celebrating the holiday have more exciting plans.

    Grading Goals:
    1. 60/73 Summer reading quizzes
    2. 2/73 Columber essays

    Exercise Goals:
Sat--walk gunner DONE + gym DONE
Sun--walk gunner DONE + run outside DONE
    Mon--walk gunner + gym
Tues--walk gunner or maybe run outside w/him
    Wed--walk gunner + gym
    Thurs--walk gunner
    Fri--walk gunner

Hi All, Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back. As I told Robin, I almost didn't come back as I was embarrassed to have slid backward so far but now I remember why I joined and stayed with this group for so long. You!! Each and everyone of you. What a wonderful, awesome group of people you are. I know that I made the right decision in coming back and with your help and encouragement, I'm going to make progress quickly.
Since I did my Sunday share yesterday I thought I'd mention my long term plans. I spoke with my daughter before starting back on MFP and told her that I needed something to work toward so, next May she and I are planning a trip to Florida with her 3 kids. Right now they are 14, 6 and 4. We went to Disney 2 years ago and took the oldest 2 and now would like to take all 3 of the kids. I'm excited about the prospect of the trip and can't wait to start planning for it. Its 9 months away so if I can keep at it, I'd like to lose about 65 pounds in that time frame. I know its doable as I managed it the last time. I'm also planning a trip to Vegas with my older sister for next October. I'll turn 60 next August and she'll turn 65 in November so I told her she had to get a passport and save up for plane fare. I have a timeshare of sorts that will cover the room while there so if she covers her plane fare and expenses the rest is taken care of. I haven't gotten a firm yes from her but I'm sure I will. If I can lose 65 lbs by end of May, I will work toward another 30 in the next 5 months. So excited to have goals to work toward.
Thanks again for the warm welcome and a quick shout out to all the newbies I have yet to meet. Welcome to the best group on MFP. Charlotte

Charlotte and Alison!!! I am so glad to see you both! YAY! Welcome back!

Pretty busy day today, and I haven't had the chance to catch up with logging my food- so I will just do a share.

I am Nicole, a widow and mother of a 15 year old boy. I am a full time student, and have struggled with my weight my entire life. I had been in the aerospace business for the last seven years, but recently threw my hands in the air and decided that I wanted a job that would make me happy... so I quit :) A lot of my friends and family thought I was a little crazy to quit without a new job lined up... but they thought it was crazier still that when I found an opening at a local software company, I actually believed it was the one job that would make me happy. For two months, I applied for no other jobs.. and I interviewed at this company a LOT. I started last week and it is just as great as I decided it would be.

I'm sharing this story because it is proof that if you believe in something, focus on it, and work hard towards it- you WILL achieve it. We can do that with our health as well. We all have this power within us to achieve greatness. Some things may not happen as quickly as my magical job search... but they will happen. Believe in yourself- because you are worth it.

Skinny – I wasn’t around last school year and am looking forward to your posts. You are such an inspiration and I look forward to reading your posts. I think you’re doing awesome on your grading and think it sucks that you have to do it on your day off, but teachers sacrifice more than most people realize – I bet you’re amazing at your job.

Laurie – I so want to get better at riding my bike and your stories make me jealous! I will get there…some day!

Lil Miss – You have to do this anyway that works for you. I think it’s awesome that your daughter is working out with you – I honestly wish I had someone to go this journey with me. I definitely think it would help keep me motivated. I definitely haven’t been the last few weeks.

Robin – Good luck with the medicine adjustment. I know how frustrating that can be but I know you can pull through it and figure it all out with the help of your doctor.

JT – I think you should have invited us all to your girls day out…think we are all a bit jealous. Glad you ladies had fun.

Pie – I love Zumba as well. I always feel very out of place because I have NO rhythm but doesn’t seem to matter to anyone – they are just all having a good time. Wish I had someone to go with me.

Naceto – It’s all new – you will get in a routine and it will become easier to resist. You can do this!

Kah68 – Love the new do! Too cute

Kinnurse – You’re back, that’s all that matters. Good luck and you’ll get all the support you can handle!

I am sure that I missed someone so I apologize in advance for that. I've had a great weekend in general, but not great food wise. I've made some bad choices but tomorrow is another day, right? This whole week has seemed to be that way. I haven't done very much exercise either. I've got to get myself together and get back on track. This is one battle that I won't lose. Sunday Share - I'm a 35 year old mother of 2 beautiful boys (8 and 9 years old) from South Carolina. I've been overweight every since I was a child. I've tried lots of things but was never really serious about losing weight until now. MFP has done wonders for me and this thread is amazing - the support that comes from here is AWESOME! I've come further on this journey that I ever have in the past and can't wait until I reach my goal. It's something that I have to do for myself and I am totally worth it and so are all of you!

Welcome, Charlotte. One of my worst fears is that I will somehow lose the focus that I have now and gain back all this weight. Congratulations on grabbing hold and coming back.
Welcome to the newbies. I love the support and accountability that I have found here. It keeps me going. Today was a quiet day. I did get in my walk with my daughters this evening. Under on calories so that is good.
    Onward and downward. Kaye
