Got 3.2 miles in on the treadmill tonight...was supposed to get 3.5, but it's harder for me mentally on the treadmill and also harder to put in a big effort physically after working all day. I may see if I can adjust my schedule and start running outside in the mornings since it's easier mentally and physically to get it done with first thing in the morning.
Kaye- Yay for perfect weather and Double Yay to a better-fitting apron!
Meeper- I had one of my higher protein days today (mmmm.....skinless chicken legs in the slow cooker for dinner, one of my new favorites!), and I notice I'm less hungry on these days, too. I guess a calorie isn't just a calorie, though I do wish everything sugary was also filled with protein. Sweet tooth here. Good job getting back into things and getting in some more protein!
Skinny- Thanks. It will be the third time I've participated in this particular 10K race, but the first time I plan to run it or any 10K. (Walked it the other times.)The longest running I've done is a 5K...that is, until I started my training schedule. I'm up to 3.5 miles now...if I stay on track with the training, I should be able to do the 6.2, but if I end up run/walking that'll be okay. I'll be happy if I run most of it.
Good job staying under 190! There's something really motivating about seeing those decades go by...I got under 260 (256-258), but crept back up since Easter. (261) Hoping to sneak back under this week and stay under!
RobinB- Read your post to Doug. I forgot where you had started with your back pain and everything. Wow! You've really made some amazing strides (literally)!! I hope you son's visit is great and that he gives your workouts a boost.
Nettie- Hashbrowns in the waffle maker sounds interesting, delicious and messy.
Laurie- I totally get your mental running block. My friend and I talk about this a lot. She's planning on doing the 10K with me in June. We compare training notes a lot. She has trouble getting going on a run, but once she hits her groove she feels like she won't ever stop. She read somewhere about training for longer races something that helps her and that I've been keeping in my head during my runs, "The first mile is a liar." (And for my purposes, I assume any subsequent miles are also lying to me. )
Rain- Hope everything is coming together well as you finish your semester! Hope your knee isn't bugging you anymore.
Tanya- Sorry your cat doesn't know what time it is! When I try to sleep in, my cats will come in my room and chew on the garbage can liner or stand on my nightstand and knock stuff over. They know the sound of them chewing and rustling that plastic drives me nuts and that their behavior will get me out of bed. Amazing how they have me trained! At least they wait until a reasonable hour to wake me though!
Naomi- Welcome back! New month, fresh start! You're just in time for the mileage (or km) challenge!
Mowmow- Sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope the complications are over and you're feeling strong and healthy soon!
Ushkii- What a bummer about your ankle! I'm glad to hear that it's feeling better already. Don't let your limited exercise derail your efforts with the water and calories. You can do this!0 -
@kah - Sorry to hear about your trainer leaving your gym. Sounds like the one closer to your house may be a good option.
@ushkii - Hope your ankle is feeling better and your walk was pain free.
@mymowmow - Sounds like you've had a rough time lately, but glad you're on the mend!
@tanya - Cat alarm clock! I have a Dog alarm clock. Wish he was more consistent in when he goes off.
@rainandwood - Best of luck on your exams. So impressed that you have exercised every day despite the stress of school. Well Done!
@jnettie - Hash browns in the waffle maker sound crispy and yummy. I saw a post on Pinterest where someone put brownie batter in their waffle maker and topped the resulting brownies with ice cream. Might have to pull my waffle maker out!
@robinb - I've also been a back pain sufferer (ruptured a disk 24 yrs ago, sciatica, arthritis in my spine). I was baffled when losing 80 pounds didn't seem to make much difference. Then I started exercising including 2 days of Pilates. Been mostly pain free ever since. I even got some bands so I can stretch on weekends and I'm going to take them when I travel since sitting for extended periods sets my back off. I hate it that those "you have to exercise" people are right, but it appears they are!
@skinnyjeanz - Yay for a successful April Renaissance! I lost 4 pounds this month. Wish it was more, but don't we always?
@kaye - Love the smell of sheets dried in the sun. Congrats on the better fitting apron. You are a super star!
AFM - Hard to believe it's the last day of April. I'm please with my April Renaissance results and think it was good for me to spend the month rededicating myself to losing the rest of the weight. I continue to have 10+ days of same weight followed by a couple days of losing. And I've come to accept it which is huge for me. I started 2014 with getting to my target weight by the end of the year as my goal. I've come to realize that my goal is to get to my target weight whenever I get there. It stresses me out too much to play the " on this date, I will weigh this much" game. I was able to do this with no problem for the first 90 pounds, but my loss pattern has changed and now it's better for me to focus on getting to my next weight goal and not worry about when I get there. As long as I believe I will get there, the when doesn't matter much.

Good morning everyone.
I did not mean to add weight training to the May challenge, I am going to keep trying to do the strength training from my online trainer. I am not as sore today since I used less weight on Monday. I am supposed to be doing cardio 5 times a week according to my online trainer. That is what I’ll track for the May challenge. So what do I need to do for the tracking? Google docs?
I wish I would walk as much as Kaye. Onward and Downward! Kaye I have a brother-in-law just outside of Boise, Eagle I think it is called. They moved there fairly recently and love it.
3M- Hope you are feeling better!

Tom-Eagle is a true suburb of Boise. It used to be very rural, but now you can't really tell it from Boise. It's really nice.
L2T-I completely agree with you. I just get too frustrated when I put dates on my goals. It's especially hard now that my loss has slowed down so much.
Thinking of Robin and hoping all is well.
Have a great day.
Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
I think I can measure my walking distance and log that for May Challenge, is that the object? I think keep it simple and post here the miles you walked, ran, jogged, cycled, swam... just my two cents.
I walked yesterday and logged, was over cal but not too bad, just popcorn at the movie pushed me over. I was able to walk yesterday a little and it was not bad. Ankle is much better, still a little twinge if it get turned but mostly on the mend. I will try to walk at least 30 min today.
MyM0w - Sorry to hear of your complications; hope you get feeling better soon.
rain - Good to hear from you, keep it up.
JNettie - You and that scale, ha ha.
RobinB - Thanks for posting some of your story, that was great.
kaye - Your walking amazes me, thanks for posting
1. Walk >30 min 4/7 days
2. Drink 8 cups 4/7 days
3. Under cal 4/7 days

@Robin~Thinking of you, hoping your surgery went well and that you are recovering comfortably at home. :flowerforyou:
@Nettie~He felt like things haven’t been right since about February – they made his life kind of difficult (i.e. taking away consults and adjusting his hours). He says they did him a favor, but I still don’t like the way it was handled so I canceled my membership yesterday. :frown:
@Laurie~I’m not sure when my trainer’s studio will open, I am still tweaking his business plan and he needs to find a location. He actually met with a gym owner yesterday that is looking for someone to help market and build clientele in his already existing gym – they are currently talking about a possible partnership, so this thing could take a completely different turn. I’m supposed to go check out the gym this week and meet with the current owner.
@Tanya & Nettie~Gotta love middle of the night wake-up calls from the kitties. Zoe hasn’t been sleeping with me much lately, but she does try to wake me up to play quite often around 3am – I often wake up and roll over on toys that she’s dragged into the bed. She is also a licker, so wakes me up licking my nose. It’s annoying but how can you deny that cute face?!
@Hansea~Mileage on the treadmill is hard for me mentally as well – I don’t know why but a mile seems eternal vs. running outside!
@Kris~Sorry to hear about your recent medical procedure, I hope you recovery quickly.
AFM~No workout yesterday, just too much going on. Meeting my trainer at the park this afternoon for a run, we’ll work out a plan of action - I’m a girl without a gym right now. My Wednesday Wish is just that everything works out.
Sunday~Weights w Trainer DONE!
Monday~Run/Agility drills w Trainer DONE! (walk)
Tuesday~Cardio NOT DONE!
Wednesday~Run with Trainer
Thursday~Walk, unless I have to work late
Friday~Rest Day/visit new gyms
Saturday~None, work then hair appointment
I may be sporadic over the next week or so, work is crazy with software testing – I promise to check in when I can…0 -
Good morning everyone. It has been a good week so far. The weather here is just gorgeous and is supposed to lat through tomorrow. Spent most of yesterday outside. I have graduated to one more lap with the dogs which puts us at just over 3.5 miles. After our walk I went over to moms and thinned out the plants in the garden where I had planted seeds. They are to darn small to try and space while planning so I had to thin them out as they are coming up. Also got a couple more things in. After I got done with that it was so nice out that I broke out the hose and washed my car. It was no where near hubbys standards but since I never do it myself I am calling it a job well done. Between the walk, gardening, and car washing I had a real good burn for yesterday so that was nice. Today I am waiting to walk the dogs until the kiddos get out of school and when my daughter gets home from work we are going to take them and the dogs to the dog park and walking trails they have there. Should be a lot of fun.Meanwhile today is light housekeeping and in a little while I am going to go outside and finish cleaning up and prepping my flower beds for some planting in MAy. The May challenge sounds like a lot of fun as long as someone can tell me how to do the recording. I am super competitive so it will push me to go further.
Ushki I am happy your ankle is feeling better but take it easy and dont overdo. I am still having to wrap mine from back to bak injuries at the beginning and end of March.:flowerforyou:
Robin my thoughts and prayers are with you that your surgery went well and you are recovering.:flowerforyou:
Momow sorry you havent been well. Hopefully you bounce back quickly:flowerforyou:
Nettie those hashbrowns sound really interesting. i am hoping when hubby comes hom,e I can interest him walking with me in the evenings like brian does with you
Kah good luck with your gym/trainer dilemmas. I am totally with you in really not liking cahnge.
Kaye your walking is just amazing. I have to confess that sometimes when I am out doing my laps and I want to quit I think of how well you are doing and let my competiveness give me the push i need to keep going. So I guess in a way you are currently my inspiration to improve. Ty for that.
Susan congrats on kicking the soda habit. My middle daughter has a serious soda addiction and anytime she complains about her weight the first thing I say is well you shouldn't drink so much soda since hers isn't even diet.
Well everyone I hope you have a great day and dont forget to drink lots of water:drinker: :drinker: :flowerforyou:0 -
Wednesday wish: I wish that Robin’s surgery went well on Monday and that she makes a speedy recovery and returns to the thread soon. I hope that the procedure helps her in all the areas that it needs to.
@Laurie – I am with most others for the May Challenge. I am not familiar with Google Docs, but I will learn.
@Nettie – Rachael Ray had some awesome recipes and ideas for the waffle iron during her waffle week. Made me want to run out and buy a waffle iron! But, I didn’t.
@Kelley – Sounds like your gym parting ways with your trainer may have been a blessing in disguise for both your trainer and you!
@Karen – Reading your posts and seeing your grading goals only convinces me more and more that teachers are grossly underpaid! WOW have you got your work cut out for you.
@meeper – This will be my first Color Run and I can’t wait! I am doing it with my daughter, one of her friends and my son’s ex-girlfriend (she and my son have remained friends and stay in touch – yes, I am still holding out hope they might get back together – LOVE HER!!)
@Kaye – There is nothing better than sheets dried on the line!
@Hansea – Thanks for the kudos on my progress. I have to keep reminding myself of the strides I’ve made because I read posts by you, Heidi, Tanya, Laurie, Karen, Nettie (I could go on and on and on… ) who are leaps and bounds ahead of me and I get frustrated.
@L2T – More and more I find that we have so much in common! It’s true though, what you said about exercise helping and that people that say that are right!! I have not done any significant walking or been to the gym since last Friday and the last few nights back pain has woken me from my sleep. That used to be a nightly occurrence but until the last few nights, I can’t remember the last time it happened. I need to make that part of my motivation to get my heiney back in the gym and on the treadmill! I am also trying to hop on your realization boat of my body reaching goal weight it wants and not when I want!
@ushkii – I am glad to hear that your ankle is on the mend. Don’t overdo it, but get back in the saddle with your walks.
@MyM0wM0w – I am sorry to hear you had such a terrible weekend and I hope you are feeling tons better!
Until next time; wishing everyone peace, love and weight loss :flowerforyou:
And….
Don’t sweat the small stuff, just SWEAT!!!!0 -
Hi Everyone! Its great to be back. I have just read these 2 pages after the roll-over. THANKS LAURIE! :flowerforyou: You've done such a great job with that and the plans for the MAY CHALLENGE. I think walking or running should be the main activity to monitor, and those that can't do that should submit to you what they can substitute in lieu of that, and their activity could be calculated as days per month of activity. Would that would for EVERYONE?
As I read it seems like April turned out to be a month of ups and downs and injuries for a lot of people. I'm so sorry to read about the broken arm and twisted ankle occurred by members whose names escape me. MAY will definitely be a better month. It is great to recommit each month, isn't it?
AFM : Its so great to be home! My night in the hospital was nightmarish because of the lack of caring of the nursing staff for my room-mate an 80 year old lady who had just found out she had CA of the liver and they would not give her more pain meds when she asked for them, and she was really suffering, calling out "help me" all the time. She needed help thru the nite and I was up helping her often. Twice a nurse refused her pain meds and the second time, around 3 am,the nurse argued she did not want to wake the house staff doctor up to ask for more pain meds. Myself, as a much older and retired nurse, that made me so mad, I shouted over the curtain, "CALL THE DAMN DOCTOR!" and the nurse walked right out of the room glaring at me. Within 5 minutes the house doctor walked into our room, talked with the patient and order a shot of pain meds for her and gave new orders for that to continue. The staff nurse of course refused me service the rest of the nite.
My surgery turned out a bit more complicated than planned but did work out well, the cyst and surrounding structures were all removed and I have a huge black eye on the right while the cyst was on the left. They originally tried to approach up my left nostril but ran into obstacles so had to go up thru the right and break some bone and cross over to the left behind my left eye the removed 3 more bones to get at where the cyst was. I will have to flush my nostrils for a year with a prednisone/antibiotic solution to prevent any infection or problems in that area.
Currently I flush my nose once an hour for a week till I see the doc.
Theres lots of pain but they gave me great pain meds on discharge so thats no problem at all.
Surgery did not affect my tongue situation at all - so I will be seeing a neurologist in a week for that continuing problem. They did do a biopsy of tissue inside my mouth just to be safe.
Sorry for all the gory detail - as I said I'm on a lot of pain meds and I'm probably rambling. See ya tomorrow!0 -
@Robin- so glad to see you back so soon and so happy that your surgery went generally well. Your recovery sounds very painful, enjoy those pain meds!
@RobinB- I had no idea you suffered from back pain. I've had chronic back pain for 10 years now. I still don't have a proper diagnosis after an MRI, a trip to a physiatrist and 3 different physio clinics. Best answer is SI joint inflammation and arthritis. Does not appear to be caused by a disc. Physio, weight loss and exercise have been my salvation for reducing pain. I am currently not taking any meds (I only use my back spasm meds when I need a sleep aid LOL)
Since it is month's end, I will share my achievements:
Starting weight April 1: 219.2
Ending weight April 30: 214.2
Inches lost: 5.5
I also did my first C25K run today. I didn't plan on it asit was windy and raining and I just wanted to get my steps and distance in, but after a few minutes of walking I decided to see how far I could get. I timed myself with the stopwatch on my HRM, jogging 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds. I finished the entire 30 minutes, and was against the wind on the way back. I only felt slightly winded the last 2 intervals, which blew me away! Not only did I feel like I was not going to die, but I didn't even come close to feeling like puking! I do have some very sore hips right now, I don't know if this is a new runner thing or if it's something more.
FItbit goals:
1. 12,000 steps
2. 8km distance
Monday: 18,006/12.1km
Tuesday: 13,174/8.85km
Wednesday:
Thursday:
Friday:
Saturday:
Total steps: 31,180
Total distance: 20.95km0 -
Welcome back, Robin. I'm sure that dear lady was grateful for your intervention. How unprofessional of the nurse to take it out on you. She should be ashamed.
Aimee, great stats for April.
I'm looking forward to a new month and a fresh start. I need to get myself more firmly planted on this wagon. Still riding a bit too close to the edge. I'm skipping my evening walk. I got my 2 short walks to and from school with Keith. This afternoon I spent an hour digging and planting flowers so I'm pretty tired this evening.
I'm interested in how many of you are fighting back issues. My issue is with my legs. I had deep vein thrombosis 40 years ago when I had my 5th child. My legs have given me problems since. I have been wearing compression stockings for 30 years. Since I have lost weight and started walking, they are swelling a lot less, and I rarely have pain when I walk. Yup, those people who tell us that we need exercise are right, darn it.
Have a great evening. Onward and downward. Kaye0 -
@Robin~I'm so glad you were able to check in, we've been thinking about you! Glad to hear your surgery went well and that you are recovering well at home, enjoy those pain meds and remember not to let them completely wear off for at least the first few days.
@RobinB~Thanks, I'm starting to feel like it was a blessing in disguise - its how my trainer is approaching it. I saw him today and he seems so relaxed and relieved right now.
@Tanya~It is probably you're hip flexors and/or IT bands that you're feeling from your run, when I first started running I would get some pain/discomfort in my hips too. Its important to stretch those areas really well after your run and if you have access to a foam roller (inexpensive at most sporting goods stores) I highly recommend using it for some myofascial release - muscles that haven't been used like that tend to form knots causing pain and the foam roller will help. Look on You Tube for some great stretches and rolling techniques.
@Robin and Tanya~I have back issues too, I blame my dad - think I inherited his disc problems. :ohwell: But I have discovered that as I've lost weight and as much as I exercise, I don't have near the pain I used too.
AFM~Met up with my trainer this afternoon, we talked a lot again so no running but did some kettle bell work and then some agility hill work while wearing a weighted vest - man, some of the stuff he comes up with! Good session though.0 -
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the well wishes. Leg is still a bit tingly, but I couldn't run even if I wanted to because there's a huge fire pretty close to my uni and the air is filled with smoke. My 30 mins on the elliptical today made my lungs burn and it's getting pretty unpleasant (throat and eyes stinging as I type this). I did weigh in and it looks like I finally got a "whoosh", down 5.7 from about 10 days ago.
I have a 6 page paper due tomorrow that I'll be up writing tonight, a 10 minute presentation on Monday, a 20 page paper due next Wed and a two pager due next Thursday. Then I have a week to study for two exams, one on the 13th and one of the 14th. My goal is to continue to exercise (as long as the air quality doesn't get even more horrendous) for only 30 mins a day and stay within 100 cals of my goal one day at a time. No big finals screw ups yet.
Hope everyone is well.0 -
Robin- So good to see you back! I'm glad your surgery went well. My face hurts just thinking about all the bruising and healing and nasal washes you'll be doing. I'm pretty horrified at the behavior of that nurse during your night at the hospital. I don't think she'll be winning any Florence Nightingale Award anytime soon! So glad you were able to help your roomie out anyway. Once a nurse, always a nurse. :flowerforyou:
Rain- Take care of yourself with that fire near you. It's so easy to taking the simple act of breathing for granted, until something gets in the way. I hope the fire gets under control soon and your air quality improves there. And...WOWZERS! Congrats on your whoosh!
Tanya- Great April stats and nice run!
Jtconst- Awesome additional lap! 3.5 miles is terrific!
L2T- Way to go on your April Renaissance success!
AFM- I did okay on my April Renaissance. I didn't stay under calories as often as I would have liked. I did pretty well on my wall sits and planks. Planks were so hard!
April Renaissance:
1. Under calories: 17/30 (More than half the time is better than not at all, I guess.)
2. Wall sit: 20/30, 95 sec. (Started out at 30 sec.)
3. Forearm Plank: 20/30, 50 sec.(Started out at 30 sec.)
And now for my May Mileage:
I started a 10K training program. I run 3 days per week, walk 1 day per week and cross train 1 day per week. I've added up my goals from the training calendar.....my goal for May is to run/walk a total of 66.5 miles!!0 -
Well I am new here to this thread, but so desperately need encouragement. Tomorrow is May 1 and I need to start anew!
Not sure what all the rules are or the format. So please feel free to direct me.............
Thanks so much for the thread we can all use and appreciate encouragement!

Robin Glad your surgery went well and that you are on the road to recovery. The hospital staff should be ashamed of themselves for the way the treated you and your roommate. Glad you stood up for her.
Another busy day down and regretfully I did not make it to the pool tonight as planned. The meeting I had ran a little longer than planned and by the time I made it back to Annapolis, it was 8:30pm and the swim practice started at 8pm. I decided it was to late to swim. Tomorrow, I will get a workout in with my trainer during the morning hours before I need to spend the day with my parents getting my dad to an appointment which will take most of the afternoon. Then I have class tomorrow night.
May Challenge-
We will start by posting the milage here. I started to create the spread sheets last night but had trouble with the google documents. I think the issue is with my computer and its operating system. Older system on my MAC that is no longer supported so I will need to use a different computer. This is not a problem since I will just use a different computer.
This week set a milage goal for yourself that you want to accomplish this month. Form of exercise does not matter just let me know the units of measure (miles, meters, km etc.) Record your distance on this site as well.
Example
Goal milage 140 miles (Full Ironman distance)
5/1-distance completed x miles
5/2-distance completed x miles
5/3 distance completed x miles
5/4 distance completed x miles
5/5 distance completed x miles
Now off to bed.
Grading Goals: Must get 8th grade stuff done by Monday middle of the marking period and grades are due at 3pm
8th grade quizzes double check 0/95
8th grade labs -0/95
7th grade one-pagers 0/32
Have a great night and I will catch you tomorrow.0 -
Robin - Im so glad you're home safe and (almost) sound.
I can't believe how horrible your nurses were! When I went into the hospital for the stroke I was so scared and I didn't have any family nearby so I was alone that first day/night...I was *SO* grateful I had wonderful nurses who were kind and really attentive. I don't know how I would have handled it if that hadn't been the case.
Now they'll get the tongue issue straightened out and you'll be all refurbished and better than new!0 -
Wednesday Wish: I’m back to patience, which is not one of my strongest traits. I’ve really tried to commit to this 28-day eating plan and I’m 9 days in. I only had 3 things this week not part of the plan, which I’m proud of the choices I made. I lost 10 lbs the first week, which is helping to push me along. I’m 9 days without Diet Coke, which is so big for me too. Headaches are pretty much gone – thank goodness!! They were so bad last week. Work is extremely busy so the stress has been very tough, but I’m hanging in there.
Yesterday was Cyrus’ birthday and he’s finally 12. Of course, he towers over me already and wears a size 14 shoe. He’s an amazing young man and I’m so proud to be his Mom. He was born at 32 weeks due to an emergency surgery for a tumor they found in me. Luckily, it was benign and Cyrus was born healthy with no issues. It’s been an amazing journey and I am truly thankful for Cyrus making me a better person.
@ Tanya – I really cut down as well. I can’t even tell you how much I use to drink in a day. I started cutting back and then I said I wouldn’t have one until I drank all my water for the day in the AM. I just want to focus on these 28 days by eating clean and seeing if I see a difference by eliminating Diet Coke too. It was HARD!!!
@ Kelly – Sorry to hear about the trainer. I know things were a bit iffy a bit ago. I know how much you’ve enjoyed working out with him and it was a big commitment on your end too. Hopefully, you guys can work something out outside of the gym.
@ Hansea – I know you’ll get back on track. You’ve been working too hard to back slide. Plus, great job not stopping on the run. Awesome!!
@ Karen – Boy, it sounds like you’ve got so much going on. Sorry to hear about the school drama. I know it can really add so much stress to everyday life. I know you’ll get right back on track with your eating. I challenge you to eat clean until our Sunday event in May. We will be getting in some great walking, but some awesome food and drink too. I cannot wait!! Also, thanks for sharing your journey with dropping DC too. I just can’t believe how much I use to drink. For the past 10 days, I commit to 100-120 oz of water. Once I hit this amount, I may drink Iced Tea and that’s refreshing for me that I fresh brew as well.
@ L2T – Congrats on the 190 and the success in your April challenge!! Woo Hoo!!! Your DH is too funny. I think I would rather gain a few pounds than go through that cleanse. Yuck!! Also, shame on you for sharing that Pinterest idea. Bad girl!! BTW, I love Pinterest!! I just don’t get on as often as I use too, but I do enjoy it.
@ Tom – You had me chuckling. Nice intro!!! Last week was brutal, but I’m doing much better this week. Of course, I didn’t share my goal with my sister and she just bought me 4-12 packs. Bless her heart. LOL!!!
@ Kris – I’m glad you’re recovering and hopefully getting back to your normal self. Eating will come and you’re getting right back on track.
@ Naomi – I completely agree. Where has this year gone? Tomorrow is May 1st. Seriously??!! The last 4 months were not quite what I had hoped for, but I’m really pushing forward and want to see a better 4 months ahead.
@ Rain – Hang in there girl!!! The end is in sight!!
@ Kaye – Cute NSV!!! There’s nothing like fresh laundry hanging on a line, which I haven’t had in years.
@ Laurie – Your rationale makes sense to me. Enjoy your rest day and have a great swim tomorrow night!!
@ RobinB – Only 177 steps? Seriously?? You really were lazy. LOL!!! Of course, I shouldn’t say anything. This weekend is in the 90’s and I plan to do NOTHING by sit by my pool and catch up on some magazines. I know you’re excited for your son to get home and I can’t believe the Color Run is here already. You’re going to have a blast!!!
@ Robin – Thoughts, prayers and cyber hugs heading your way. Sorry the prior night was such a nightmare. Shame on that nurse. Lazy!!!! Unfortunately, this is the care many of our elderly experience. I worked for the AARP years ago and in the year 2020 we will have more elderly than any other age group due to the baby boomer generation. I use to think that was years ago and to think it’s just around the corner.0 -
@robin--so grateful to hear the surgery went well and you are home! :flowerforyou:
@laurie--good luck on that grading--just a month or so until summer...Hang in there! :flowerforyou:
@hansea--love your May goal! Still not sure what I will shoot for. I'm going to look back at my mileage over the past couple of months and set a goal slightly higher. I've also heard the saying "the first mile is a liar" and it's so true--especially when I'm running a race.
@kelley--hope things work out with your trainer--it really does sound like it may be for the best.
@kaye--I've also slipped to the edge of the wagon. Tomorrow I will readjust my tush firmly in the center!
@tanya--congrats on starting c25k! Sounds like you're off to a great start! :drinker:
@robinB--thanks! I am fortunate that I work in an area where I make a decent living. I feel really sorry for teachers who work in rural districts, especially downstate. They earn a pittance for doing the same amount of work we do in Chicago and the suburbs--without exaggeration, I probably earn twice their pay, and it's not like I'm rolling in the dough.
@tammy--sounds like you are really doing great with your mileage already--3.5 miles is awesome! Gunner and I typically do 2 miles if it's just a walk. When we run, I do 1.5 miles with him and then drop him off and do 1.5 to 2 on my own.
@ushkii--do you have a smartphone? If so, search for an app that will track your mileage for you. If not, you can use a site like mapmyrun.com to figure it out.
@L2T--I also set goal dates to lose a certain amount during my first year on here. However, once I dropped below 200 my losses have become so erratic that the game became discouraging. Now, like you, I'm just content to get to goal when I get there. I lost 1 pound in April, and I'm thrilled after so much stagnation and a gain over the holidays. Going to continue to push for more losses as we move into May. I think the mileage challenge will help me focus.
@meeper--yes, I've definitely found a lack of sleep means less energy which can = more eating to try to fuel a tired body. I did get to bed earlier last night, but my dog decided to wake me up at 3 am barking and whining about something (probably a critter outside). I think all of the folks talking about their cats waking them jinxed me. :grumble:
AFM--My wish was going to be for some good news from robin, so it already came true. I skipped the gym again to grade, but at least the weather allowed for a walk with gunner. Tomorrow will be a gym day for sure!
Didn't get to the Hemingway stories today b/c I was grading optional AP journals--got one class out of 3 completed. I also finished entering speech grades for my juniors.
Union drama continues, but the good news is that elections were today, and the woman who causes most of the drama didn't get re-elected. I feel like it's mean of me to be so very happy about that, but I just can't help it. It's bad enough that we volunteer a lot of our time to represent our members (there's no pay for being a building rep), but it's even worse when one of the reps is passive aggressive and creates more trouble than she helps resolve. I'm looking forward to not having to deal with that next year.
Grading Goals:
1. x/16 AP analysis activities
2. 1/3 classes worth of Siddhartha journals (they are optional, so not sure how many will turn it in)
3. x/52 Hemingway short story annotations/questions
(I have a lot more grading, but this is my goal by friday)
Exercise goals:
Mon--walk gunner DONE
Tues--walk gunner DONE + gym NOT DONE
Wed--walk gunner DONE
Thurs--walk gunner + gym
Fri--rest day
Sat--walk gunner + Glo Run 5k
Sun--walk gunner + gym0 -
@susan--we posted at the same time, so I missed including you in my personals. First, happy birthday to Cyrus! Second, you read my mind--my plan is to be really strict with my nutrition until your visit.
Congrats on your 10 lb loss!! :drinker:0 -

Thursday Truth: I'm not doing as bad at this active/healthy eating lifestyle change as I think I am! I'm so glad that I decided to start taking measurements last month. I took them again this morning.....and I am down 8.75" since April 1st!!!! :noway: Pretty nice shock.
I was kind of discouraged because I had some logging lapses and a lot of over calorie days last month, and I had *only* lost 3 lbs. But, changes were happening, and I need to stop getting down about just one aspect of my progress. I will improve my eating this month, increase my sleeping, continue to work on my running, and I know I will see even more progress!
Meeper- Don't punish yourself over your occasional calorie surpluses too much. As long as it balances out over the course of the week or month (ie: more days under or at your calorie goal than over your calorie goal), you're doing great!
Skinny- It sounds like you weren't the only one who thought that the drama-causing woman shouldn't be a rep anymore, either. Glad to hear that you won't have to deal with that next year. I hope it's the best union rep'ing year ever!
Susan- You're really getting back into the swing of things since your cruise! 10 lbs?!??!! WOW! That is fantastic. I'm proud of you for cutting out the coke, too. That's no small thing.
Laurie- Thanks for taking on this May Challenge and getting it all organized. :flowerforyou:
PoisonIvy- Welcome!! :flowerforyou: This is a great place for you to stay accountable. Make a commitment to log in and read the thread every day, post a lot. I've found that it's helping me stay on track to come here! There are guidelines on page 1 with suggestions about what to post, but you don't need to adhere to them.

Happy May everyone! I cannot believe April is over. Here are my final stats for April Renaissance/Fighting Complacency. Overall, I'm pleased with my efforts.
At or under Calorie goal: 28/30
Weight lost - 4.4 lbs (down to 189.8)
@robinb - Glad I'm not the only one who needs to chill out on the weight/date goals. If you read that I'm doing that, feel free to smack me back to reality.
@robin - Welcome back and glad the surgery is behind you. Sounds like all went well (except for the evil Nurse Ratched) and I hope your recovery is swift and seamless.
@hansea - Way to go on those planks in April! And I agree, they are way hard.
@susan - Happy Birthday to Cyrus! He sounds like a great young man (not to scare you, but almost a teen). Enjoy every day. I miss my girls living under my roof and I know I always will. They are the best thing I've ever done. My DH is too funny. He has his own "ideas" on how to lose weight and it's impossible to change them. He has been complaining about his weight loss being stalled and when I suggested actually weighing what he eats, he insisted he can "guesstimate" pretty close. Yeah, sure he can. Sorry for the Pinterest suggestion. I have a board called "Sweets for the Sweet" where I post desserts. I never make any of them. I just like to look at them. Kinda like food porn. I also have a board called "Thinspiration" where I post clothes I will buy/ be able to wear when I get to goal. Sometimes I browse it when I have a craving for something I should not eat.
@laurie - Thanks for taking the lead on our May challenge. I need to decide what I will do for it.
@skinnyjeanz - Glad I'm not the only one who has experienced a big change in the way I lose once I got below 200. I'm now 45 pounds from my goal of 145. Sometimes when I get frustrated, I have to remind myself of how far I've come and in only 10.5 months. I could have never predicted (and certainly did not expect) that level of success. The rest will come off if I just stay the course. I just need to relax at this point and let go of any expectations other than "I will get there".
Exercise Goals:
Saturday - 3 hours yard work DONE
Sunday - 3 miles walking DONE
Monday- Cardio/Weights/Stretch DONE
Tuesday - Pilate DONE
Wednesday - Rest Day DONE
Thursday - Pilates
Friday - Cardio/Weights/Stretch (Not happening. Going to the golf tourney with DH and will get in lots of walking)0 -
Got an app called MapMyWalk to track my distance, it uploads your exercise to MFP! That is cool. I hate having another website to log into and deal with but it works nicely on my android Samsung S2. I will most likely just use the app to measure my walks and upload to MFP.
I was able to work on my trills, did some routering to make the joints for the four post, hope to make the side parts tomorrow. It was very cold here and a good thing i did not plant yet, so it all works out.
Walked yesterday and ankle did fine! So happy about that.
RobinEggs - Good to see you back! Hope your recovery goes well, I always tell my family to have someone, if possible, to be with family member that are in the hospital.
Tanya - Great April achievements!
rain - Your schedule makes me smile, because I remember being there. Keep pushing on it will all pay off in the future.
susan - Great job on your 28 day plan and on giving up diet coke. Great work!
skinny - Ha, I did find MapMyWalk and after trying it love it!
meeper - Keep at it, you never are defeated until you give up.
L2T - Great stats for April!
Going to set my walking goal to 40 miles since that is a little over 1.5 miles for each week day of May.
1. Walk >30 min 4/7 days
2. Drink 8 cups 4/7 days
3. Under cal 4/7 days
Mon: 2
Tues: 2
Wed: 123 2.41 miles
Weak total = 10
May Mileage: Goal 40 Miles0 -
L2T, your loss for 10.5 months is amazing.
Susan, great loss!
Okay, now my mind is blank, but good job on inches lost, too.
May is a new month! I love May because of all the new beginnings in nature. It's my birthday month, so it's a good time to set goals and recommit. I've set my goal for the challenge to walk 100 miles this month. I should be able to do that.
Good luck to everyone.
onward and downward. Kaye0 -
Kaye - its just dog-gone difficult when you get to the last 20 lbs or so. I'm glad you still have a fighting attitude! :flowerforyou:
Kah - weight vest? How many pounds? Sounds like quite a work-out.
Rainwood - I've seen the reports on TV about the smoke - you must be suffering terribly - my thoughts are with you - and best of luck with all those papers that are coming due - you will SUCCEED!
Poison Ivy - welcome - we have no "Rules" but there are suggestions on Page 1 -the very first posting - you can follow that if you're not sure what to post about. Just keep coming back and DO NOT give up!
Laurie - thanks for coordinating the MAY CHALLENGE! I am putting myself down for 30 miles total. I realize thats not much compared to the rest of you but it will be quite an accomplishment for me if I make it.
MowMow - how tough that must have been to be alone when you had your stroke - no family around. Glad you had good nursing care!
Susan - great weight loss! WOOT!!! :drinker: :drinker:
Skinny - glad the election worked out in your favor! Stuff like that makes such a BIG difference in life!
meeper - what are zombies? It sounds like you are doing great at exercise. Hope you can get that eating under control. Maybe look at your protein intake and increase it?
Hansea - great to see such a huge loss in inches! Fantastic! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Lives2T - yes you WILL get there!
Ushkii - I am so proud of you for your continued efforts at walking, despite the ankle injury! :drinker: You are really hitting it hard this time. You are going to succeed, I can feel it. :flowerforyou:
Having a great day myself, getting all my treatments and meds in on time, which I was worried about. I have stuff at midnight and 7 am and did both on time, thank goodness. Got a great nites sleep - loved it. But, had a spill this morning - I am noticing I get dizzy when I stand up too fast, and did just that and walked into the kitchen and then got real dizzy and fainted briefly. Luckily I was standing in a corner and slid nicely to the floor and didn't hurt anything or make a mess  And I taught myself a good lesson on standing still for a minute when I get up from my chair - double duh! :noway: I did have a moments thought while I contemplated getting up from the floor that if only I had some cleaning products I could clean the bottom of the cabinets while I was down there! Darn - an opportunity missed!
MAY CHALLENGE:
1/31 -0 miles goal 300 -
Good morning everyone. So the day is off to a good start. I got the kiddos off to school and now I am free until Monday since their grandma is picking them up today and mom has tomorrow off. I am going to wait again for the dog walk until this evening so we can take the truck and go to the dog trails they like so much. SO far today I have done some picking up and weeded out the front flower bed I didnt get to yesterday. It is kinda funny that now with the weeds gone it went from looking really full to being almost empty since there are only a couple of perennials in there. I put mostly annuals out front and then perennials in the back. I am trying to find something pretty for my back bed that can tolerate almost no sun. My neighbors trees hang over that area and it gets maybe an hour of morning sun and thats it. My DH has finally agreed to let our son work on the mower this weekend. He sometimes forgets that Devon is a mechanic now. Thats what he does for a living and I am sitting here with a jungle growing in my fornt yard cause the mower quit working, I think hubby has trouble remembering they are all grown up now, lol.
Robin I am happy to hear that the recovery is going well. I had to laugh about the cabinet cleaning comment. I have had the same thought when I ended up on the floor by surprise:laugh:
Laurie ty for organizing this months challenge. I am really excited about this one since it is the kind of thing that will really motivate me:happy:
Susan you are doing amazing. I continue to gain and lose the same 5 pounds but at least I am not only gaining. I would moan about it but I know what I am doing wrong. I just have to work on being more consistent with my eating.
Skinny I am glad the elections went well for what you wanted and hopefully next year will run a little smoother for you.
Alrighty time to go accomplish something. First stop fill up my water glass. Have a great day everyone and dont forget your water:drinker: :drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker:

Robin - glad you're home but enough already on this dizzy/fainting thing. Okay?
Cleaning the bottom of the cabinets reminds me of when I started doing floor exercises---oh my, an opportunity to chase those dust bunnies I wouldn't normally see. Well, actually I'm pleased I don't actually see them!
Take care and best wishes to everyone.
It's the first week of Farmer's Market here----wearing a winter coat and gloves to go down there today!

Alright, I am determined to get caught up on personals right this very moment. I have been slacking big time but I really want to get back on track, so here goes....
@lin - I'm glad to hear we're not the only ones still freezing our tushies off! I am so ready for warm weather. We are in week 3 of flooding here in our city, the waters keep subsiding and rising because of the rain we've had and the ice flows breaking lose up river. Still snow on the ground in places, we were finally able to get our Christmas decorations off the lawn this week, though ,so that's a start. I want to pack away the hats and mitts but my boys are still using them pretty much every morning!
@jconst - how nice to have some free time! My mama lives in my basement so "sending the kids to grandma" doesn't work very well for me. Have a great weekend and don't forget to take some time for yourself.
@Robin - so glad to see you back on here - I've been thinking about you! I have been known to contemplate the dust bunnies while lying on the floor after my plank. that's scary about the dizziness and fainting, so glad you were close to a wall! take good care of yourself!
@kaye - happy birthday month! I like fresh starts, too. I am glad to see May as well and am thankful for a clean slate.
@ushkii - love MapMyWalk, it's a great tool! Really glad to hear your ankle is doing well.
@lives2travel - well done on your April goals!
@hansea - wow, that's an amazing result with your inches! It's so easy to get discouraged, I'm glad you found a new way to track your progress.
@meeper - we all have days like this... just let it go and move on, every morning is a fresh start. Don't let one bad day ruin the week, it doesn't make that much difference in the grand scheme of things! Keep the big picture in mind! Also, tell me about these zombies... I'm intrigued!
@skinnyjeanz - Hemingway, eh? Sounds like it would at least be interesting to grade. I love Hemingway!
@susan - I hope you find the patience you're looking for, I know that can be a tough one! Happy belated birthday to your boy! Size 14 shoe... that's insane!! My 12 year old wears size 6. Sounds like he has an amazing story, I'm so glad it turned out the way it did.
@LaurieK - thanks for setting up the May challenge for us!
@1PoisonIvy - welcome to the thread! Just jump in and start posting, the more active the are the more fun it is.
@rain - that's a great weigh-in! I'm sorry about the fires, that must make it so hard to breathe.
@kah - LOVE the kettlebell! Sounds like you've got a great trainer.
@tanya - I love the C25K program, sounds like you're off to a great start! My hips bother me when I first start a new running or walking regimen and I think it's pretty common.
@RobinB - I'm jealous of your colour run, they sound like SO MUCH FUN!!
@Tom - I love that quote - so true!
Ok... I think that about does it for the personals. I read every day and am always replying in my mind - too bad there wasn't a direct translator for that, it would be so much faster.
Thursday Truth: I've hit a pretty major low spot right now, and unfortunately I don't mean weight-wise. Lots going on at the moment... my 12 year old has hit a pretty major rough patch including meltdowns at school and just a difficult time coping with everything, so we're heading back to his specialist next week to see if adjusting his meds will help. DH is in the middle of a health crisis himself and we're waiting on his call for an appointment with a surgeon/specialist 4 hrs away (emergency appointment so it may be very short notice). It's been really hard to focus on my own attempt at a healthier lifestyle. I fell off the wagon for a bit but have recommitted and am trying so hard to stay on track now despite the stress. Admittedly, it does feel good to be back in control of something. My ankle is continuing to cause me a lot of pain and baffle my physiotherapist at the same time. I will be taking a 10 week break from racewalking when the half marathon is over on May 11th (that is the time between the half marathon and when training will start for our second half marathon of the year), and depending on what my PT says, I may also be getting an ortho referral and some tests to see why it keeps flaring up whenever I start training. This has been going on for 3 years now, so I'm about ready to be done with it.
The May challenge is a tricky one for me, since as I stated above, I'll likely be done walking as of May 11th. I will commit to 25 miles, since I should be able to get that done in the next two weeks. I suppose I could use my fitbit's daily tally once I'm no longer racewalking, since my job requires me to be on my feet for 5 hrs/day and quite active. Not sure if that would be cheating, though.
This quote has come to my mind a couple of times in the past week... the first time, on mile 9 of our 10 mile racewalk last week when we were maxed out and trying to keep up the pace for that one last mile... and now again, when I read Robin's story about fainting!

Thursday Truth: I haven't been very good about exercising this week. We've been looking at houses and have put in a bid for a new home. Just waiting to hear back -- I hate the waiting part. I've made poor choices for food, but have stayed within the calorie limit I've set. I've always felt that I was pretty good at handling stress. However, after this past year and a half, I found that seeing my friends/talking with them daily was a huge factor in this. I feel like now that I work out of home each day, I don't have that release anymore (and unfortunately, typing it -- while it helps, isn't the same).
I have been reading and keeping up with you all, but don't really have time for personals right now. Emma's school is doing an art show and then Jacob has his final Jazz performance of the year. I'm sad to see that end, but I won't be sad about having to drive him to school for rehearsal three mornings a week.
@Robin...glad surgery went well (even though they had to change plans once they started). Please be careful and if the dizziness continues, make sure you get that checked out. I don't want you to get hurt.
My planks (straight arm) did max out at 84 seconds. But considering I started with a high of 13 seconds, I'm very happy with my progress.
May goal. I'm going to set my goal at 60 miles. I walk less than that on an average basis, so if I can do 2 miles a day, that will be an increase in my walking (I'm much more of a work my butt off with the trainer for 30-45 mintues than a walker). So there you go.0
