@susan--aww, thanks! That's really sweet of you. I'm mostly okay with how I look now (except for my batwings and roll around my middle), but I wtill have a bit more to go. My BF% is around 32-33% which is at the high end of normal for my age--I think the recommended range is 24-34%. I would like to at least get below 30%. Also, my BMI is still solidly in the "overweight" range at 29. Though I don't know if I will ever get into the "healthy" range (need to be below 160 lbs to do that), I would like to get closer. which is why I'm currently shooting for 170 lbs. which would put my BMI at 26.5. Also, I'm still really struggling to improve my running pace, and I know being even a little bit lighter will make that easier.
I know what you mean about being afraid to regain the weight. Every time it happems to someone else, or a newling joins the thread and says "I lost x lbs and then gained it all back," it scares the heck out of me. I guess it's a good reminder that I'll never be "done"; I have to stick with this for the rest of my life. And you're right, a big part of it is mental, and I know you will get there. :happy: I sometimes get jealous of those who've lost more weight or the same amount more quickly, but I just remind myself that we're all different. Maybe my long stint in the 180s is my body's way of letting me catch up mentally. Maybe your setbacks are your body's way of telling you you weren't quite ready the first time. The key is to keep trying as you are--eventually the mental aspect will get there and then there will be no stopping you! :flowerforyou:
@tanya--I've also heard they are coing out with a new one. After looking at the site, I think I would get the Flex as well. Like you, I would prefer to wear it on my wrist than clipped to my clothing--for all of the same reasons you mentioned.
@laurie--I really hope it's nothing, A colleague of mine had a similar experience, and had to stop her activities for a very short period, but she was able to go back to all activities pretty quickly. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
To all of the newlings: you've stumbled across a great place to get support and friendship. To all the newlings, I do the same as Skinnyjeans. I spend lots of time here, and I feel most able to give support here. The people who post here regularly have become my friends.
Finishing up a good day of meeting my goals. The washer is fixed and mountains of laundry are done. Waiting for Rebecca and her family to arrive. They should be here soon. We haven't seem them for a long time, and her beautiful girls are growing up so fast.

AFM--I had a productive day. Took gunner to the salon, put a nice dent in the de-cluttering, and got some regular cleaning done as well. I also got in 2 short walks with gunner, so a little bit of intentional exercise. My food was really good today, made my protein goal--yay!
Tomorrow I have a salon appt (for myself, not gunner) in the early afternoon. I'm planning to go to the gym beforehand provided the headache that's creeping into my brain goes away. Hoping the aleve and a good night's sleep takes care of it.

Hey everyone, first...let me respond to those kind souls that took a moment to think of me!
@ skinnyjeanzbo -- I'm feeling fine...appetite has been up and down, so I already know I'll fall into the not enough calories trap if I'm not careful because I'm avoiding trigger foods, etc. Now that I know I should have a target of 1200 calories net, then that helps me even more! Thanks!
@ Susan2396 -- I'm a Safety Professional by trade. My current role is a safety manager for a casino/resort here in Southern Nevada. I'm either on my feet all day, standing at a podium teaching/lecturing, or sitting in front of a computer...never a dull moment!
@ tlh0407 -- Procrastination used to be normal for me, to the point my family expected it...I've had to learn how to get around that and start managing my time better. The problem is a very busy schedule between work and college, so I've had to learn to prioritize and find the value of time for myself in there as well...

@ Robin -- thank you for your kind words...good reminder this is better suited to my mindset when I was more on maintenance...I need to pay attention to that if I find myself in plateau sooner than I expect!!
Next, I read a few things that prompted me to share my Thursday Truth perhaps? When I was at 386 pounds, I had no "true" concept of what I looked like to others, and vehemently denied I had any issues of over consumption of anything. What I couldn't get around was I'd traded one addiction for another, and that was to experience a food high just as I'd denied myself any other chemical/narcotic effect and started over eating. For ME, not problem became most real when I was hospitalized and informed I'd be unable to see my son grow up if I didn't change my eating and exercise habits. The ER doc's have not always been kind to me, but my son reaching adulthood without me was NOT an option, so I had to "see" myself from an outsider's viewpoint.
I guess this is in response to someone's comment about not being able to picture themselves at a size 12. If' you've never BEEN a size 12, or haven't been since you were pre-teen maybe, it will be very hard to see the future without comparing yourself to other forms similar to what you might think the results might be. I learned this is a set up for failure for ME every time because it works in reverse for ME. I then fixate on where I'm at isn't good enough, and my efforts to love myself first are shoved to the side in despair and fear of failure always wins out over the small successes.
How I looked at 191 pounds was a surprise to me...I thought there's absolutely NO possible way at 5' 9" tall and 191 pounds I could put on a pair of size 12 anything...but, I was wrong...for the most part, I was able to wear a 14 easily in almost anything or any style of clothing, but I never ever dared to try on 12's because I'd graduated from "girl" clothes to women's clothing about 10yrs old, and went out of Junior High wearing 14's and 16's so I don't have any concept of what my adult body would look like in a size 12. Turns out, I was able to wear 12's and 14's for several years after I reached that 191 pounds and my body then was not what I wanted it to be, but it was certainly MUCH better than size 24 or 26 or even 32 or 34.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that no matter what you weigh, or the size of your clothing, you have GOT to be able to visualize yourself as a success every day for continuing to battle the one addiction society doesn't ever talk about, and that would be food. We talk a lot about over eating, about counting calories or measuring our portions, etc etc etc. What we don't acknowledge to ourselves is we have to EAT to live, just as we need air and water. Whenever we are hungry, we need to eat and that constant reinforcement of the vicious cycle of food consumption is the one addiction I struggle with the most.

Thursday Truth: I am making a cake for sale. I've never done that before. it's for a friend of my sister. Her little girl is getting a tiger cake. I'm pretty nervous. It's one thing to make one for my kids and if it doesn't turn out -- oh well, I tried. They are paying me to make this cake. :noway: I made the striped cakes today (1- 10" square and 2-8" rounds). Tomorrow, frosting and fondant stripes. Wish me luck!
@Kelley...can't even image adding weight to a plank. Just adding them to the squats, lunges etc is brutal. Hope you and your trainer can figure out what is going on with the gain you've had and can get back on track.

@Kaye...so glad it worked out for Nicole. I'm going to wait until I see what my husband does this weekend before I pull the trigger on a house warming party. I had a bit of a breakdown today and yelled at people within ear shot that if they are expecting me to empty every box, it's going to take a long time to get settled...I need their help. My husband just got off the overtime list (first time in probably 8 years) so he should now have two full days each week. Hopefully, if he and I kick it in high gear this weekend, I will feel better about things. I should have taken more time off when we moved. Good luck this weekend -- you'll do great!
@Grammy...you are kicking some tushy!!! My dad was in denial about his hearing loss for years (although I sometimes think he knew but was too cheap to actually pay for them). He finally got them one day before he died. Mom said he enjoyed being able to hear for those approx 24 hours. Everyone I know loves it after they get used to them -- I'm sure your husband will get jealous and follow suit shortly.

@JNettie...I love the idea of the Dr. Seuss room. We did Noah's Ark when I was pregnant with Jacob. Emma just had a yellow room with clouds and moons in a border. We only had 24 hour notice with her and we were pretty broke after the adoption process. Tough situation with your cousin.

@Karen...I agree with you regarding the friending of teachers/students. I think that's where there's a fuzzy line and too easy to cross. I am having a bit of a dilemma because I've never been friends with any of my kids' friends. however, now that Jacob is on Facebook (he hated having to wait until 13 like the rules state since several of his friends were on, but that was the earliest I would let him. That was one of the things I had to compromise on -- Michael felt 13 was okay, I wanted him to wait a bit more), he is required to have me as his friend with full access. I don't search out any, but some of his friends have requested me as one...so far it's been okay. I like being able to see, but, it feels a bit awkward. However, for the most part, all I post about is activities we do as a family.
AFM...nothing much today. I got Emma's desk down to her room so she quit having excuses not to get her boxes unloaded. She sometimes uses the "I'm only 8" as an excuse not to do things, but I told her she needed to start the process. After the boxes were empty, I'd come down and help her organize everything. She actually is a pretty good organizer if she puts her mind to it. For motivation, we found a couple wall hangings for cheap at Hobby Lobby today that will go on the wall only after it's all organized. We also will begin her project of painting her name letters to be hung above her bed. I bet she gets it all done tomorrow.
I got several errands run and the cakes baked. I also ordered a Kitchen Aid stand mixer from QVC. I wanted one at Kohl's but saw that there was a $200 difference so I ordered it from QVC and now have to wait 3 weeks for it. I've decided that if I can sell a cake a month, I will have it paid for in 6 months so I think it's worth it -- especially as I make buttercream frosting. I know Michael will complain a bit, but he's paid plenty for his 5 tattoos and his cigarettes, so...:devil:
As far as my goals go...calories I'm ahead by 26 for the month of August. Water, I'm not doing so well. Exercise, meeting my goal of 3 times a week.

Friday Fitness-I had my first official personal trainer appointment last night. It was great except for the running part. My mind said "you got this, it's only 1 lap around the gym" BUT my knee said "Heck no, you must have bumped your head!!" So, I will not be running again any time soon but I will definitely be moving up the pace on my walking. My food choices were not that great yesterday. I was over on my calories until I logged my workout and I am not sure if my workout calories were correct. I need to pay better attention to what I am ingesting. That said as I sip on a Starbucks iced chai!!!
Does anyone use a Mio Venture Heart Rate Monitor, the wrist kind? I have one and it will only allow me to check my heart rate through about half of my workout. Once I start really sweating it stops working. I'm just wondering if this is a common problem. I would really like to use it so that I can get a more accurate calories burned count.

Friday Fitness: I find the exercise side of weight loss to be so much simpler than the food side. Once I figured out how to incorporate it into my schedule, I've been pretty dedicated to exercising regularly, mainly because it makes me feel so good. I get up at 5:30 to swim laps so that I can get home to my kids before my husband leaves for work. I'm considering joining a CrossFit gym, which scares me a lot - I'm really not sure that I can hang!
I've tracked food daily this week, but I have not figured out how to stay under the calorie goal. I'm still eating way too many sweets and carbs and not enough fruits and vegetables. Why is it that I KNOW this, but still don't change it?
Any tips on how to keep up with this thread easily, especially via the mobile app? I think this thread will help me a lot, but if I don't find time to check in one day, catching back up feels impossible!

@Karen~Its interesting that sleep aids can bring on sleep paralysis for you, that’s exactly why they were prescribed for me. Doc found that I was getting “stuck” between sleep cycles and never really reached REM, which was triggering episodes (that along with stress). Don’t get me wrong, it definitely wasn’t a “cure-all,” as it still happens periodically but my doctor recommended sleeping on my side and that seems to help.

@Tracy(tlh)~Your cakes always seem to turn out beautiful! You definitely deserve a new mixer, glad you’re treating yourself—I’ve been eyeing that mixer, just can’t seem to make myself buy one. I’m a baker too (I make some mean cookies) and still use an old handheld mixer—someday.
@Brenda~I haven’t heard of that type of heart rate monitor, is it water/sweat proof? If not, that could be causing it to malfunction.
AFM~Talked with trainer last night about the gain happening this week, he came to several conclusions. One is that I HAVE to eat at BMR at the very least, so I really need to be more consistent and get those calories in (he told me to relax and quit being so fixated on where those calories are coming from). The 2nd is that when I was benched after thumb surgery I surely lost some muscle, so I’m gaining that back now. The 3rd is that running can often cause temporary weight gain and I’ve upped my mileage and have been running more lately—so it’s a triple whammy. :grumble: This is where my patience (or lack thereof) comes in. Anyway a good session, a lot of squats/lunges which seems to have angered my knee some —so I’m taking today as a rest day. Tomorrow I run!

Oy, body image—mine is terrible. I can’t stand to see pictures of myself at my heaviest. What’s worse is that when I see pictures of myself now, I feel like I haven’t changed that much but I know I have by leaps and bounds. I never want to go back to that weight again, I was unhealthy and unhappy—but it’s scary that it could happen so easily. I hope that through the support of the great friends I’ve made here and the support of my trainer that it will be enough to lose the rest I need to and to keep it off. I think it’s going to be a constant struggle and be in the forefront of our minds for an eternity.0 -
@kah - You're doing great! Don't let the scale get you down. Insomnia is awful. I suffer from it from time to time, mostly when I have lots going on and am stressed (like right now). I either can't get to sleep or can't stay asleep. I didn't get the FitBit that tracks your sleep patterns because then I'd be stressed about how terrible the graph would look. Hope things get better for you soon.

@susan - I think the fear of falling back is universal. If I had kept the weight off the first time I lost it, I wouldn't have spent the last 25 years being fat. But, that's water under the bridge and the only way we can go is forward. And, you're right. My job is not fun. It's challenging (which I usually enjoy) and it's interesting and I work for a really good company. So I really shouldn't complain, but sometimes you just have to vent about your lot in life!
@laurie - Hope the echocardiogram shows that the murmur is nothing to worry about and you can keep on running!
@tlh - Sounds like your unpacking will be done very soon. I'm always impressed with those who move and get unpacked and organized in a flash. LOL at your description of kicking the door wide open. Like you I'm not about to let the opportunity to get a project done while he's willing for us to spend the money.
AFM - Spent hours last night looking at lighting. For some reason, while I'm typically pretty quick at making choices, lighting is always a sticking point. It's just not something that is easy or quick for me to select. And what the heck is up with LED lighting? I need a tutorial to convert light output of LED bulbs to the good old 100 watt standard we're all used to. Lumens are like the metric system for lighting. No one in the US gets it or can convert them to a measure we understand. And don't even get me started on the cost of the bulbs. This weekend is going to be very rainy so I anticipate visits to Home Depot and Lowes to hunt for countertops, a new laundry sink and tile for the backsplash.

Checking in to report...I have energy today!!! I got up this morning and sat outside on the patio eating breakfast and reading a book for an hour. Then played in the gardens for a bit. Now I am inside drinking my morning smoothie for my protein fix. When I am done I think I am going to surprise Brian and mow the lawn. We will see how I feel after that. I may attempt to dust and vacuum the house before going to work.
Skinny (Karen) - I ended up biting the bullet and accepting her friend request. Though I just had to put a little note on her wall saying "I just saw your friend request. I am confused. I though we were already friends on here." Within seconds she responded "I though so too...LOL " I think it is safe to assume that she has not changed one bit and is still not a trust worthy person. My other cousin and I had a nice laugh over that one. I fixed some setting so she could only see limited information on my profile. I don't blame you for deleting that person. I would have done the same.
I have the Flex and really like it. Like Tanya I put it on and forget about it. I keep the app running on my phone so it automatically syncs. I stopped wearing it for a week or so because I was charging it and forgot about it. But I am proudly wearing it again.
tlh - I was thinking to go with the theme doing some inspirational quotes as wall art. I am not a fan of the classic Dr. Seuss colors like red for a room. So if I go with the theme it would be in softer colors such as pink and yellow for a girl, blue and yellow for a boy. For the walls I was thinking of going with a tan or a pale yellow. I am so conflicted on the two themes I narrowed it down to.
Kah - Me too. I loved the books when I was little. I have a nice selection of the books and stuffed animals now from teaching.
Lives - I love how you have your days listed. Especially the last one, Terrible Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. I definitely had one of those yesterday. I was low on protein, fruits and veggies. @tlh0407, hope the new glasses fix your headaches! Have you heard of Zenni Optical? I bought my last pair of glasses there (the ones in my profile pic) for a 1/4 the cost that Lens Crafter would have charged me and they were no-line bifocals. Such a huge savings and the prescription was dead on. I’m hoping to get another pair this fall just so I can switch things up with my look.:smokin:
@ GrammyWhammy, I so hear you about wanting to work out without sweating. I have my own home gym where I wear very little clothes and have a ceiling fan, floor fan, and the fans from the machines blowing on me. I’m a little ridiculous I admit. :blushing:
@kah68, Good for you for seeing a trainer and I also wish for your frustration over the scale not moving would become easier. I know that I have so much frustration over the years. Why is it so hard to lose weight and so dang easy to gain it!!! :sad:
@ Skinnyjeans, TDEE hurts my brain!! I wish I could figure it out but I can’t (or won’t), so I let Fitbit and MFP tell me what to do. On days when my exercise and steps is high, I don’t eat all the calories back. The other day I was told I could eat over 2000 calories. Huh, that would make me gain weight not lose!:noway:
@Tanya, that crustless asparagus quiche sounds delish!! I will definitely have to make it for dinner one night. I never ate asparagus until about three years ago and now it’s my favorite veggie!
@Lives2Tavel, sheesh girl you have a lot going on!! Your job sounds very demanding and now you are going to redo the laundry room! I hope the reno goes great and you will post a pic when it’s complete. We converted our whole house to LED lighting. Love it!!! If you want a great source for lighting check out a website called Lamp Plus. I have bought all my lighting there and many other household items like my mirrored nightstands at a fraction the price I found elsewhere. Great return policy and customer service as well. :happy:
@KrisN30, I would be happy to be your friend. You can’t give up on yourself!! I understand all too well about self-hate but I also know that it does no good. This is a one day at a time, every day battle!! Tips on calorie counting is to just do it. MFP makes calorie counting easier than any other calorie counting site I’ve used or seen. I have logged my calories every day since July 1st, even the ugly days when I ate Krispy Kreme donuts and Chick-fil-a biscuits. @trulydivyn725, WOW thanks for sharing and giving us so much truth to chew on. On the subject of body image. Boy do I relate!! My husband will often point to some woman (who I think has a good figure) and tell me that I’m built like her and will resemble her shape when I get the weight off. I’m always like “Really!” (Major eye-roll) Then there are the women who are really bigger than me and I compare myself to them and hubby will tell me that I don’t look like that. But the truth is I feel like I do. It's a viscous cycle that I have been battling since I was 13 years old. Getting to the root causes is key to finding the success I so badly want. @tvmama, This thread can get away from me too! Especially if I have a busy couple of days at work. I do try to read it often and when I have time, like today, I ramble on and on and on! As for tracking calories, I have learned that pre-logging helps me more than anything else. When I don’t pre-plan and log that when I get in the most trouble.
@kateirving, this is a marathon not a sprint. I know that when I start to get healthy and eat right I have to get past the fact the weight isn't going to melt away leaving me thin. Just take it one day at a time and learn to be patient and to celebrate every victory!
@Robin, I just want you to know that I think you are awesome!! You are so kind to everyone and a great leader for this group. I love reading your threads and truly feel blessed that I found this thread and all the wonderful people on it.

AFM, I have the day off from work and plan to get some housecleaning done. My fitness has been pretty good this week. I’ve been trying to get more steps in and I do feel so much better since starting this journey last month. I have had two days where I have gone over my calories. One was that Sunday splurge at Jason’s Deli and the other was on Wednesday when I was off work. I just didn’t get enough steps in to balance my calorie intake. However I didn’t overeat! I’m keeping a close eye on the whole month to get a better understanding of my calories in vs. calories out. My weight is down and fingers are crossed that it will stay that way for Sunday’s official weigh-in day. I’ll let ya’ll know!! :bigsmile:0 -
Happy Friday! :bigsmile: I took the stairs to a meeting today halfway up realized I had 5 more flights to go. I had to rest at the 9th flight made it all 10 flights but man was I panting like a dog for the first 10 mins of the meeting. The friend I referred to earlier this week and I are going walking on Saturday then to the dollar movie theater to see 22 Jump Street.
Possible TMI alert but I enjoy knowing that even though the scale hasn't moved this week I am losing somewhere because my underwear keep sliding down :laugh: :blushing:

Lives - I love how you have your days listed. Especially the last one, Terrible Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. I definitely had one of those yesterday. I was low on protein, fruits and veggies. I gave into cravings and snacked on potato chips most of the day. But I am pregnant, I get a pass right? :laugh:

I cannot take credit for the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. It's part of a book title (Alexander and the THNGVBD) that my girls loved when they were little. Even nowadays when one of them calls and I can tell they've had a lousy day, I will ask " Did you have a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day?". Yesterday I read an article that shared another new scientific study showing that - as you stated - being overweight is going to be the biggest health threat now. Humans need 3 things to survive - heat, shelter,food - thats it. Modern life causes us to SIT TO MUCH the study concludes this IMPACTING our food consumption - and their scientific conclusion is that we need to EXERCISE more. so simple.
I cut it out and saved it. With your story it all adds up. And with GrandmaKaye's simple way of losing weight successfully it makes it so clear - while she rarely discussed her knee replacements that troubled her, she just faithfully kept at her reduced size of her meals and her increased activitly - with an occasional break for a special meal or break from exercise, and is outperforming most of us!
Kah - have you thought about scheduling 2 rest days in a row? remember you're not fully recovered from your injury - and it was more serious on your body that you originally thought.
IMHO - I disagree with all your trainer's opinions. sorry.
Brenda - I am a big procrastinator too! With the same fears of dropping the ball....:frown: i.e. I am supposed to be leaving here soon - but am still drinking coffee and doing this...instead of packing my carryall...

Susan - thanks for accepting my blabbermouth! :laugh: With your hectic schedule maybe you should drop back your weekly goals and aim for losing less per week - if you're shooting for 3 lbs a month- well, aim for 1? and if your exercise goals are x, just shoot for what you love - I think you said you loved swimming, so set your goal as trying to increase your swimming without setting a number of days. (I have gotten this infor for myself just recently and am going to try it.....crossed fingers....) just thinking this might reduce some stress in your life and help you continue to lose weight and increase activity but at your own pace.

tvmama - its hard to give up the sweets- you will be able to transition to better choices - it does take time. I did it by setting 2 choices side by side. First choice was a favorite choice a 100% carb snack - next to it I set a single serve applesauce without sugar added. For several days I looked at these 2 choices and took the carb snack. One day, I chose the applesauce. It got easier after that. Then I moved to another choice. Later, another choice and so on. Maybe this will wok for you.
KateIrving - well, you said, its been a "few" weeks and you've lost a "few" pounds. From an outside perspective, that is what you should expect.....can you elaborate where your frustration comes from?
Laurie - oh! Glad the tech didn't see any major problems. Hope you get the final results soon - waitng over the w/e might be rough! If any consolation heart murmurs do show up for multiple non-threatening reasons and are quite common -quite common, I assure you from my medical background. I had one that showed up in my mid-30's and its not an issue, just a fact of life to be jotted in my profile.

@holly (mnwalking)--LOL!!! :laugh: You are too funny. in the interest of adding TMI, when I bought new undies at Soma a few weeks ago, I wasn't sure what size to get. I've always been L or XL, but the salesgirl took a look at me and said "you're a medium"--she was right!
@teresa--TDEE hurts my brain too (well, ALL math hurts my brain), but I've specifically rejected the idea of using TDEE b/c of my fears of what happens if my activity level is off in the calculator. What if I say 3X/week, but that's more or less calories than I'm really burning? However, I didn't use a TDEE calculator since I've maintained over the past several months I just used my actual numbers. Anyway, so far it seems to be working okay. Also, if you burned enough calories, there's no reason you culdn't eat 2000 caloires and still lose weight. Remember, your body burns calories just to stay alive (your BMR). If you set up MFP to include a calorie deficit (i.e. to lose weight rather than maintain) then there's no reason you can't eat all of your exercise calories and still lose weight. I lost almost 60 lbs doing that.

@L2T--I'm that way with paint--I will take forever to choose a color. I think the pants were the only good thing I found. Amongst the junk I should have tossed years ago was the typewriter I used in college. It was high-tech for 1987--had a little word processor with memory and dictionary/spell-check. It made for a very funny throwback thursday FB post. I posted a picture of it and tagged my college friends. My college roommate posted (it was so fancy back then" and a few others recognized it too.
@kelley--glad the trainer gave you some perspective about the scale. I'm a firm believer in eating at least BMR regardless of weight loss goals. I've seen too many horror stories from people eating below BMR who think they are doing the right thing by eating less only to screw up their metabolism.
Let me clarify about my hesitation to use sleep aids. It's not that they've ever caused a sleep paralysis episode--I've never taken a sleep aid, so don't know if they would do this. However, of the episodes I've had in the last 20 years, I think almost all occurred while I was on some sort of medication. It's possible that is true of the ones that happened when I was a kid, but I really don't recall. Anyways, that's why I don't want to chance it with melatonin or other sleep aids. I think it's also why I try to avoid most OTC meds and supplements.
@kate--the healthiest way to lose the weight is slowly. At least it seems that people who lose at a rate of 1-2 lbs/week (or less) are the ones who tend to keep it off long term. Don't get discouraged--instead of thinking "I've only lost a few lbs" turn that into "I'm a few pounds lighter and probably a lot healthier than I was a few weeks ago." I know a lot of us joke about putting the weight on overnight, but the reality is that it took most of us years and years to get to our heaviest weight. There's no reason it shouldn't take years to take it off. Patience, Grasshopper. :flowerforyou:
@tvmama--I just go to "my topics" to find the thread, but you can also find it on your profile page under "my recent forum posts." I have no idea how to get to the threads from the phone app--I didn't think that was possible. As far as Cross-fit goes, I've heard great things about it from friends who've joined, but I've also heard others say it's very expensive and kind of cult-like. I think they felt very pressured to spend more and more money--not only by the employees at the gym, but also by the other members.
@brenda--I had a MIO Drive+ wristwatch style HRM and I never had any problems with it not working regardless of how much I was sweating. I have my health assessment with a PT this Monday and I'm a bit nervous--I've never worked with a trainer before.
@tracy (tlh)-- great job meeting your calorie and exercise goals so far while unpacking a whole house! :drinker: That's hard to do even when things aren't busy. I am also up by 161 calories--however, I'm hoping to be up 3000 by months end, so I still have a ways to go. :laugh:

Ugh! Well I had a very active week without any formal exercise. I woke up too late to make it to the gym before my hair/pedi appointment. Then I thought about just going for a run outside, but I still had a bit of last night's headache lingering in my skull so decided against it. Feet hitting the pavement would rattle my head too much.
On the plus side, my hair and toes look great! Also a plus, my scale was back down to 183 today which is my ticker weight. Hopefully, if I stick to my new calorie goal (and get my butt to the gym!) I will finally see the scale go down for real.

@Robin~I may end up with two rest days in a row, mostly because its tax-free weekend here and I have some clothes shopping to do plus house work. I sometimes disagree with certain things my trainer suggests; however, when it comes to muscle I tend to agree with him since it weighs more than fat and is more dense. I was benched for a month after surgery, so I'm sure I lost some muscle during that time. My clothes are fitting looser, so while the scale is showing a gain I feel like I've lost inches--need to learn to be happy with that! I've also been eating well below my BMR, I need to try harder to eat at least that--because of my activity, I need to make a more conscious effort to eat what my body needs. I'm planning to re-evaluate my TDEE and BMR this weekend and try to find the right balance. He's right from some level--I've always loved working with with numbers (guess its why I'm an accountant) so I have tendencies to obsess over them. He's trying to get me to ease off on myself a bit, since I tend to obsess if things aren't perfectly balanced. If you want a good laugh, I think of the daily summary on the home page as the accounting equation (just turned around a bit)--assets are food, liabilities are exercise and owners equity is my net). :laugh:
@Tom~Zoe will love that its international cat day! I coming home to her every day and she's always so excited to see me--she helps me forget what a stressful day I had at work. She doesn't hiss or growl and really isn't that vocal with meowing, but she sure purrs like a diesel engine! :laugh:

Friday Fitness: It really feels good to be back on track. I hit the gym 4 days and plan to go tomorrow. 5 days is plenty for me. While I’m dying on the elliptical again, I know I’ll work my way back up. Walking is at 3.5 for an hour, but it actually was feeling a “little” easy. Time to bump it up. Plus, I want to get back to swimming perhaps 2 days per week to mix things up. I did lose 8.9 lbs this week. Happy dance!!! There’s nothing like that first week of weight loss to get you in a positive mood. I’m excited to keep going and push through week 2. It’s good to be back and thank you guys again for your support my friends.
@ Laurie70 – Hugs my friend!! Just a “little” hiccup, but I know everything is going to be fine. You’ve been patient. Eating right. Exercising consistently. You will not go back to your old ways there’s no way. This is your lifestyle now. We’ll worry about the exercise level after your results.
@ Skinny/Karen – I was thinking exactly the same thing on so many of your points. It’s truly people like you, Laurie, Kah68, Lives2Travel, MowMow/Kris, and so many others that keep pushing me forward. I know some of you it’s taken a little while and there were some ups and downs along the way, but you keep pushing forward. You truly have experienced so many of these hills and valleys so many of us are enduring and then some. What an inspiration!! @ Tlh0407 – I love my Kitchen Aid Mixer. It’s been used a TON that’s for sure and worth every penny. I remember my mom took a cake decorating class and we always had fun cakes for our birthdays. She tried to do one for sale and I remember she was a total basket case. She didn’t too to many because the anxiety got to her even though they looked great! I bet yours will look awesome!
@ Brenda_1129 – Nice job with the trainer. I really enjoyed working with one, but had to let it go. She never had me running though. Thank goodness! I just wasn’t ready for that yet. She pushed me, but I was never so sore the next day I couldn’t exercise.
@ Kah68/Kelly – I love the relationship you’ve built with your trainer. I know you get so much great advice and you’re working so diligently. You deserve all the support you can get. I’m not one to give advice right now on the ups and downs of the scale. Lord knows I’ve been a mess for awhile, but what I do know is your so faithful with your diary and exercise. Like I told Karen and Laurie, this is your lifestyle now and you WILL NOT go back to the old lifestyle. There’s no way. Will you still have to go through some ups and down? No doubt, but just look how much stronger and healthier you’ve all become. You can look back as a reminder, but know you’re always focused ahead.

Hello all. I am enjoying my new job but my companion (old boss now coworker) will be out on vacation next week. This week, I scheduled three interviews, 2 of them didn't show and the other I hired. It's been a good week in limbo. DH and I are in a bit of a tiff today. He had a bad day at work and is taking it out on me, causing me to have a ****ty evening. He told me we were going to the mall so he could get me new running shoes, but then we started arguing about getting his computer set up with internet and I decided just to start drinking and make dinner at home.
Friday Fitness: I went for a 5 mile run this morning. It was my "retire the shoes" run. I should have rested, I skipped softball last night because I pulled something in my foot. This morning it felt fine, but after my run I had to wear my ankle brace and real shoes to work. Guess I'll be doing week 11 all over again also.

I did a leg/butt circuit yesterday and am really feeling it today, which makes me feel that I worked hard enough... Yesterday it felt a little too easy. But no butt soreness which makes me think that I need heavier weights for the dead lifts or my form is off. My feet are feeling better still, and I went for a hike after work and was surprised when my fitbit vibrated at my 17k goal. I've nit reached that all week as I'm trying to rest the feet.
I have a very annoying problem... I have a noise sensitivity. I don't like loud music, power tools, lawn mowers etc. I get very agitated. Especially in my house. I feel like I should not have to hear the noisy kids down the street in MY personal space. It's probably absurd, I know but my blood pressure rises and I feel generally agitated. I'm trying to "let it go" and try to ignore the sounds I find offensive but it's hard. And last night one of the houses on my street ran a generator all night. The sound bounced off a house on the corner, making it seem to come right outside my house. I sleep with the window open because I love fresh air at night and the cat goes in and out without waking me up. I had to wear ear plugs and I could still hear the generator. It was off for about an hour and now it's back on again. I feel like blowing up... I can hear it with all the windows closed, so I turned the TV up to drown it out, which is annoying in itself. :explode: :explode: I hope this doesn't last all weekend or into next week... I'm gonna lose a lot of sleep. And my sanity.0 -
@tanya--sorry about the noise. Could you wear earbuds with some pleasant music that doesn't offend your hearing? That's what I would do. I don't have noise sensistivity, but sometimes at starbucks the other people talking will get on my nerves, so I plug in my music to drown it out.
@erienne--sorry about your hubs being cranky. I don't blame you for calling off the mall visit--nothing worse than taking an already grumpy mand shopping! The cocktail was probably a better idea.0 -
I've been under my goal every day this month, too, ebailey (sorry I don't know your name)! Hurrah to us both! It's a record for me.
Tomorrow night is our anniversary dinner. I've seen the restaurant's menu on-line and realized that other than veggies, everything else is VERY high calorie. So I'm having minimal cals during the day, a short workout for the calorie buffer, and then will only have lobster with lemon, no butter, grilled asparagus, one roll with a teeny butter and a shared dessert. Oh, and appetizer will be fresh mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. Drinking only water. Beginning to think it would be easier to go to Chik-fil-A. I apologize if I'm making anyone hungry, but it helps if I publicly declare my intentions, then I'll be less inclined to stray.
Tried again, and failed, to send emails to make fitbit friends. I think the problem is with their new dashboard. I'm giving up for now. When son has a chance, I'll have him try it. Honestly, if it weren't for him, I'd be lost in cyber limbo.
