Good start, only because I have come off my "break" and stopping stuffing my face with chocolate after dinner. What's with that? I can usually stick to my calories until I have cleared up after my evening meal, then it all goes to "kitten", as seems to be the saying on MFP.
Also, I have knuckled down to lots of small chores outside and gardening, so more exercise - and still gearing myself up for that dreaded decorating. It means sorting out my pile of brushes, rollers, old paint etc to see what I need to buy, plan how to move the furniture about in my small flat so I can actually work...and use the stepladders. Hate that last bit most of all! Needs must though.
Anyone know why the MFP mobile app lets you record half pounds lost or gained, but in the web version, it's rounded up to the last whole pound? Eg, today I am 291.5lb, but on the web version it insists on 292! So annoying, those 8ozs count, "kitten" it! As an ex system admin/web nerd, it really annoys me.
Good luck for this week, everyone!

Hola from Houston. Still alive and losing, slowly very slowly now. Harvey came and went but the effects are still visible everywhere. Dickinson Tx is my backyard.
Thankfully i suffered no real damage, fence and roof leaks. Still waiting for the mountain of trash lining my mother in laws street to be removed. People's memories and homes, literally the walls, piled both sides of the street end to end with openings for driveways. It's depressing and sad and hopeless. Frankly it's getting old. I just haven't had much time for much else. I'm fighting with logging food, I eat too fast and my sleeve let's me know. I'm dehydrated more now, dangerous for me. Life is getting back to normal. Work is. Exercise hasn't been an issue. Tearing out drywall and fence building are pretty good exercise judging from my muscle aches. I thank God every morning I'm doing all of this with 125 pounds less. I miss the group here. I kind of lost interest when it began being dominated by challenges. I sincerely hope they are helping you. I think I will be back more frequently now that I have a few moments to breathe. Pray for Mexico City, Puerto Rico and all in the path of the hurricane.7 -

Hopefully, I'm back on track! Now to restart my exercises on a more regular basis and get that water consumption back where it should be. It's amazing how a change in routine can upset your normal habits. Well actually maybe they haven't become habits yet if I could lose them so quickly! I have to work on making drinking more water and exercising, as well as controlling my calorie intake, a habit that comes naturally whatever the circumstances. Then I know this will really be a life style change and the start to a healthier me!!2 -
@pneschich great to hear from you. I'm sorry for all you and your family are going thru with clean up and loss after Harvey. Thankfully, it sounds like you are all safe. I'm sad that the challenges have caused you to lose some interest in the thread, they are helpful to many of us. Did you have a chance to read some of the back posts? There is a new poster (can't think of his name right now) who is also on the journey for surgery, you might be able to give him some insights. It sounds like you need to regroup and start taking a little better care of yourself, i.e. dehydration and eating slower!! You have worked so long and hard to get where you are, now TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!! Yes, you're being hollered at by your friends on MFP LOL but only in a concerned and caring way. We missed you, keep us updated, please.2

I am very happy this week didn't show a gain! I fully expected as much. I am still reeling trying to get back on track since Irma blew through town. I haven't been shopping yet because we weren't sure if Maria was going to stop by too. So, many meals have been, um, quick and convenient (translate: fast food!)
Every Wednesday when I close my food diary and MFP gives me my predicted weight in 5 weeks time, I go out 5 weeks and record that prediction in my Food Notes. Looking at that "Note" for today, I am about 10 pounds MORE than what that prediction was 5 weeks ago. A bit depressing! But, I can't dwell on that! I have to move forward, nay DOWNward!!
Until next time; wishing everyone Peace , Love and Weight Loss !!

Barb, my goal now is to maintain, not loose. So no need to include my (daily!) fluctuations - I don't want to scew the group's overall stats. But I'm happy to join you all in this challenge as it's really helpful to me and keeps me accountable.

@psenich - I've been thinking of you and your family, wondering how you're all doing. Sounds like everyone is at least relatively ok, even if majorly rattled. So glad to hear it! The cleanup will take time, but WILL happen...
Personally, I've been finding the challenges helpful despite being in "maintenance." I make it my own personal challenge, and the weekly group postings keep me accountable to something outside of myself. Whatever works, right? Sending best wishes, B.2 -
@pneschich glad you checked in too! I've been thinking about you, not sure where you were but had a worry you may be in TX. My brother is a Marine in the Houston area and is reporting the same as you. Praying for relief from the mess! And yes, please take care of yourself, you can't do if you're not around to do it!2

@Nikion901 I understand the physical challenges you are dealing with and that is why I love "Noni", it's all about finding ways to work with what you can do, whether you have physical limitation, work full time, stay at home, chronic illnesses, ect. And she has names for the forgetting "time passage awareness disorder" and "slob vision" both totally made up but describes what goes on in our brains and life that makes that happen and how we can combat it. My SIL has lupus and other chronic and physical limitations that make it very difficult for her but she has found a lot of help with noni as well! Hope it can help you too but I sooo understand everyone is different and can't always do the same things. Good luck to you! And I too had a late night snack and am robbing peter this morning to pay paul!!3

Wednesday wish: that I had found MFP sooner instead of the fad diets and things to complicated for me to stick too. Some being: WW, cabbage soup diet, slim fast, not eating, pills, pills, pills, major food group eliminating, low carb. But I love MFP because it's easy to just start, and learn as you go. Then using knowledge, dedication and time weight loss does happen!!4

I too am glad to hear from you, and take care whilst working so hard. One of the most inspiring things I read and saw on MFP was you getting back on your paddleboard a few months back, despite the jellyfish stings!
So sorry to read about your MiL's troubles, and all her neighbours, all the areas and people affected by these weather events. Such things very occasionally happen in the UK, flooding usually, or high winds damage, but nothing on the scale that you have in the US. Whatever happens to all the ruined furniture and household goods? Is it incinerated (wood, fabric and other flammable materials) or just put into landfill? I assume there is not the manpower to try and recycle stuff, or if it is safe to do so. Most will have been contaminated by floodwater. The mountain of it to be disposed of must be enormous.

My weight hasn't changed much in the past few weeks. It finally showed up. I've tried to drink more water and I think that's what helped this week. That, and I stayed away from high sodium foods the day before my weigh in.
I think I'm doing better with my diet. I'm not one to eat super healthy. I think meal prepping is helping. I only went over my daily calories one day the past week.4 -

I have put myself on a diet the best way I know how without a whole lot of help. I recently was oked to have the gastric bypass surgery. My dietician said loose 30 pounds by March 15th, 2018. Here's my question, I am now at 548.4 pounds. I've list 43 pounds in seven weeks. My question is, is this to fast? Can it be dangerous to loose to much to fast like I read. Thanks in advance
That's a question for your Dr or dietician. I can tell you starting out strong and embracing a new lifestyle is a great way to begin. The more you lose before surgery the easier the surgery and recovery is. That 30 was the minimum. I was sleeved 2/13/17. Started at 345. Lost 50 before and 75 since. About 30 to go. The more you do to get ready before the easier the after will be. Get in a good program, ask anything and everything and go to the support group. Staying engaged increases your success. You're on the right track. There are several guys in my group who started over 600 now in the 200's. It is a powerful tool. You still have to fix the between your ears part of you to make it all work. Good luck.5 -

Total overall weight lost so far - SINCE 09/2013: 63 LBS
I actually gained another 10 lbs above my 09/2013 weight by the time I was finished with my cancer treatment in October 2014, so in Jan 2015 when I got serious again, I started at 247. So really, I've lost 73 lbs. My goal is 130 so right now I'm about 2/3 of the way there, "only" 45 lbs to go. I'm trying to move more and get some exercise in, but it's difficult when my heart is not cooperating. I had another echocardiogram today, should find out by Monday or Tuesday if my heart has improved any.
My insurance "new year" starts Oct 1st, so I will have to start paying for my doctor visits again - it was nice not having to pay for anything after I hit the catastrophic cap this year, all the way back in February, but <sigh> that has come to an end. Thankfully I still have some money left in my medical spending account, that will help a whole lot! I've been missing a lot of work and run out of any kind of leave, so time missed = no pay. I'm not sure what the future holds, but I will keep plugging away anyway.

@ihp2015 Hi Irene! Great wt loss for this week! You are really dreaming big with a goal to lose almost 30lbs in 10wks. Good luck! What are your plans for achieveing such a lofty goal?
@pneschich I too dislike the challanges. It feels like everyone just shouting into space. Not much interaction or support. If each person would just at least comment about the post before theirs... I know it takes time...
I am sorry you are still suffering from Harvey. I am near Tampa and am very lucky Irma weakened like it did. Hang in there! You have been thru worse. This too shall pass.
Rach4 -
@MermaidPrincessRach I love your new profile pic!! I know the challenges aren't for everyone but please do check in. I would love to keep offering support to those that aren't doing the challanges, and I dont know how to do that if you aren't on here letting us know how you are. BTW how are you doing?2
-
@Barney... you are right on track. You have such a great exact handle on your caloric needs its impressive. I am going to go re-read your post about your bmr and see what I can learn from you .
@KAREN welcome back, you've got this!
@I'm on my way... good for you for doing this young (I'm 47) your body is gonna be so happy! And your skin is gonna bounce back quickly . Yay!!!
@Rachel, I can't say I agree with the expression "shouting into space" . I personally feel support from this group, and the structure is really helping me with my progress ... it may have slowed BUT I'm still trucking along, in part due to this thread and the people here.
Also, I haven't been here long but I assume that summer is slow because everyone is busier and with less structure than in winter.
Cheers2 -
Thursday Truth ... I'd like to pipe in on the 'talk' going on about not liking this thread with the challenges being run ... we've always had challenges on here, but not the one that took such a big hold of the group like the weight reporting chart that's been running most of this year. Those other challenges were things that no one monitored and reported on how we were doing as a group. Sometimes there were several different ones running at the same time because no one could agree on just one to focus on. At least, that's how it was when I joined the thread in 2014.
This thread, like any other, is what you make it ... meaning the people who take the time to stop by, read, and post. However I do understand how sometimes it feels like the only time many people stop by is to report their weights once a week ... But if that is what is helping them stay on track and motivated to keep plugging away in their efforts, then that's all to the good. Say something if you want to share, say nothing if you don't, and if you don't know what to post about but feel like you want to, then follow the page 1 daily topic suggestions that were the foundation for the thread to begin with. .... And now that I got that off my chest. Thanks for prompting the urge in me to share, @pneschich and @MermaidPrincessRach; I think you are not alone in wanting more dialogue and less statistics on here, or some dialogue along with.
@newjax2017 ... I really miss people on here over the weekend ... I think many people find it easier to stop by during the week when they have time during their work day but on weekends are busy with their family life.
@GOINSTD12 ... Speaking of insurance plans ... got my update for 2018 in the mail yesterday, and natch everything is going to cost more next year --- I did a review of the year and see that while I've only managed to lose about 10 pounds so far this year I actually lost over 48 pounds during the 19 week where I lost weight. Too bad there were also 16 weeks where I gained a total of 36 pounds. Only on 2 weeks did I stay the same. (this is my Sunday morning weigh-in stats, Wednesdays are another story). Consistency is Key ... I'm still learning how to apply this rule day in-day out.
QUESTION Everyone .... Give a shout if you use a smartphone for MFP. (I recently had to use one and found it great for reporting on my food diary with it, but terrible for following the community page threads and threads.) So now I use the smartphone for logging and the desktop computer for sharing.
Nuff Said.
Niki

@Nikion901 Smartphone phone user here. I have never used the pc to log on so don't know how it compares. But I have difficulties with other things like Facebook switching from smartphone to pc, formats are different so I feel I'm always missing something important. So I just stick with one. And I do love being able to stand in the panty door and scan what I am about to shove in my face.2

Thanks for prompting the urge in me to share, @pneschich and @MermaidPrincessRach; I think you are not alone in wanting more dialogue and less statistics on here, or some dialogue

I love this thread.
I participated in one of the challenges and it is a great form of accountability. I am so excited they are helping So many of you. So, l support them but I feel like I'm somehow cheating when I do. I have lost so easily since my sleeve but I have struggled in other places. My losses ground to a stop in mid july and are slowly starting again at a more normal rate. The support I have received here has been invaluable. I will continue to come and hopefully support and energise and share my success and failures. More windsurfing pictures too.
