    Too many to count >_<!!!!

The most annoying for me is when people consciously substitute letters:

    Lyk
    Yus
    Pleeze
    Wat
    Wen

Even typing them makes me feel degraded and destined for another round of schooling, and what they don't realise is that it takes longer to read their ape-like language than it does to read English.

I hate when people type "ya'll" when it is really "y'all." Boorish.

Yeehaw! Someone else who knows how to spell it!

I have many grammar pet peeves. I gave up trying to correct them and just grumble under my breath.

I work with a gentleman who adds an S to almost every singular word:

    Somewheres...
    Anywheres...
    Nowheres...

Instead of saying, "and then" he always says "an nen."

It could be a Minnesotan thing, but it drives me crazy!

There's also the infamous your and you're debate. I judge people who don't use the correct word.

This whole site is my grammar pet peeve.

Also people who type in "txt spk"
It was cool 10 years about when phones didn't have full QWERTY keyboards.
Now pretty much EVERYONE has a QWERTY keyboard.
Abbreviating words that are 6 letters or less is just pure laziness.
Just type out the full word damnit.

Misplaced apostrophes and quotation marks. arghhhh
There's a barbecue place here that painted advertising in their window last fall trying to sell their delicious smoked "turkeys". Ok, if it isn't a turkey, what is it? If it is a turkey, you don't need the quotation marks. If you're not sure what it is, let's just say that, then.

My absolute biggest is your and you're. My former boss always used those words incorrectly. In fact, I don't believe he ever heard of "you're". The other is lose or loose. And don't forget there, their and they're.

It bugs me when people say Pacific instead of specific. One is an ocean.

Definitely this. When I started my job the lady training me used to say pacific. I really wanted to correct her but didn't think pissing her off in my first week would be a good career move!

    Then, than (time vs. comparison)

Their, there, they're (possession, location, contraction of "they are")

Where, wear, ware, were (location, verb, noun, past tense of "to be"--and it doesn't even sound like the previous words)

Misuse of apostrophes when trying to show plural possession i.e. the students' textbooks

My biggest grammar pet peeve is when people derail a conversation to criticize someone's minor grammar mistakes instead of actually addressing the argument at hand. This especially irritates me when the person who made the mistake actually has thoughtful things to say and maybe just isn't very good at spelling.

Besides, spelling and grammar are two different things. Spellng errors are not grammatical errors.

Also, linguistic descriptivism is elitist. A lot of supposed grammatical "errors" are intentional cultural signifiers that have been developed by a group as part of the process of identity formation.
