Dear women over the age of 20

Cheaply made is good for those of us that work in labs (solvent damage, ugh) and/or are losing weight and don't plan on staying in a certain size for a log time. And seriously, mom jeans are fugly.
Yeah, seriously. I goodwill it for lab clothes. I feel a lot better about spending four bucks on dress slacks that are going to get enamel or dyes on them within a month than spending thirty to fifty.0 -
Here's my solution.
(FOR ME...NOT ANYONE ELSE!)
1. Buy fabric from a craft store.
2. Dust of my sewing machine.
3. Tailor my own damn clothing.
There ya go. : )0 -
I never have a problem finding something fashionable in the plus sized section of Macy's.
They have a "juniors" plus, things for the more fashionable younger crowd.
I mean where else can my fat butt get lavender skinny jeans.
I want a pair of purple skinny jeans. I don't care what anybody thinks about them, either. I'll get that *kitten* from the Juniors section and rock it. That is, when I'm near my goal weight.
Got my purple skinnys from the JUNIORS section of JcPenny. You're welcome :-)0 -

I actually think that's a great solution! Unfortunately, I never really learned to sew. :-(
I made a sweatshirt in 8th grade home ec. It wasn't pretty.0 -
Uuuummmm ... I shop in misses (and sometimes juniors, too) and I don't wear those things. There are plenty of options.
Right now I'm wearing a very cute, not frumpy at all maxi dress right now from the misses department at Kohls. And I have some very adorable, fashionable clothes from the Macy's misses department, as well. Maybe it's just the stores where you live that are like that.
Believe it or not, there is a huge difference between the Kohl's in FL and the one up here in PA. I was. so. happy. They actually had a GOOD selection of shorts! and I found flip flops that I love. I actually bought the last 2 pair in my size. Penney's is also a bit different in selection. So finding a maxi dress that isn't frumpy in FL doesn't surprise me.
I lived in NY state for 28 years and didn't have trouble finding great clothes in Penneys up there. We didn't have Kohls.
In the misses, they have a great line of -basics- but you shopped in misses for 28 of your 35 years? Their jr dept is pretty good, their kid section is small but OK when it's back to school, especially for winter clothes. ... their basics, again is pretty good in the kids dept. I've lived in 4 states and quite fond of Penney's, but they are all pretty different when it comes to selection.0 -
And also: to the people that ***** and whine that Macy's or WHBM or Ann Taylor is too expensive, you're more than likely getting better made clothing at those places. Look for sales. I would prefer to shell out a little extra on a pair of WELL-MADE jeans that will last me years and years. Quality, not quantity.
Not always true... While I find good deals at Macy's all the time (I don't like the clothes that fit me very much though... they make me look fat and old... no lie)... but they aren't always quality made... I'm a stickler on how things get washed and I have had a few things that I just bought this spring already start to fall apart...0 -

Obviously not. :-) But through most of my late teens and 20s, I shopped in juniors and misses. I have an hourglass figure and it came out when I was about 9 years old, so misses fit me early. And if something was cute and fit me, I got it. I've never had a problem finding clothes that fit the bill in misses.0 -

Old Navy currently has skinny jeans in like 98237042873 different colors for pretty inexpensive. Usually their pants don't fit me right, but the skinny jeans do for some reason. They have purple, and I want the red ones SOOOOO bad, but I'm waiting until I go down one more size (kinda between sizes at the moment). I'll add those red skinnies to my collection of loud pants, right next to my leopard print skinnies that got hated on earlier!0 -
I do occasionally go look around the women's sections. And then head immediately back to the juniors. I'll tell you what, OP, when I stop getting carded for buying lottery tickets (must be 18 in my state; I'm 27), I will consider actually buying something from the womens' sections.0

Once you have shopped at Limited, White House Black Market, Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, etc you won't miss the Jrs. Department clothes. I guarantee it! Plus I bet you will find that you can buy a smaller size and that they fit much better. I finally converted a friend of mine and she hasn't looked back!
HELLO! PRICE! Of course these clothes are well cut and flattering. Yes, I too love those stores but you can't get a single outfit at any of them for under $150. Trust me, my whole wardrobe would be WHBM and Limited but I need to eat, too.
The only time I buy those brands is when I find items at the ARC or Goodwill.0 -
Ummm dont tell me what to do :-)
I am soo guilty of this I'm 29, i like how inexpensive and trendy they are.... That being said you do have to be choosy
I wouldnt buy anything with words or bedazzlement on the butt! But a cute top or dress why not??
I sense some hater-aid0 -
I think most of us would stop even looking there if the styles in the misses section actually suited our tastes. Some of us aren't ready to let go of our teenage rebellion. =PAnd seriously, mom jeans are fugly.
These people clearly know what they're talking about.
I'll shop where I want, for what fits me at the moment and isn't old-lady clothes. Hell, my mom was 44 and we regularly swapped clothes when I was 15. She looked good. I looked good.0 -
Age 23
Favorite store: Abercrombie
Reason: Trendy styles, women's sizes.
Yummmm... too bad they're so pricey, and complete *kitten* to anyone over a size 10. :[0 -
It more depends on what the person looks like..and what particular type of garment it is we are talking about..I get some things in the jrs department..heck..my mom who is in her early 60s shops in the jrs department..and somethings look alright on her..while ill admit some of her choices make me kind of cringe..depending where she is going because of her age..but in the end she is happy..so I overlook it..and besides in the end..no other person opinion really matter..who are you suppose to live your life for?..not a stranger of the street or internet for sure..0

Can I still wear kids shoes? grown-up shoes are too big for my tiny feet.0

haha. I'm 28 but dress from Forever most of the time. Love J Crew that's about as "misses" I'll get. I don't have huge gargantuan hips (thank you God and genetics!!) or a huge *kitten*. So I'm very happy wearing abercrombie and Hollister jeans. :]0

I like that dress, its pretty.
Today I'm wearing some slacks... From the womens department at kohls. I bought 3 pairs... One Black, one gray, one brown with a tiny pattern... So I guess I do wear from the womens section sometimes. Its not always jeans from the juniors section.0 -

I love it, too. And I'm hoping that having my IUD removed will allow me to get back to that size!0 -

Can you please send this to my MIL?
I think my Step-MIL does too and she's over 60 for sure. I think she wore a prom dress to my SIL's wedding.
Sadly, I can totally relate.
VERY SADLY, SO CAN I!0 -

Agreed! ...and to agree with another poster "Mom Jeans are FUGLY!"0 -
One really cool thing about this thread: I did read about a bunch of new stores to try out. That garage one has some cute stuff.0

A few examples of misses clothing from Macy's and JC Penney:
While you look great in all of them, I wouldn't wear a single item in these pictures. That is not my style at all.
Today I am wearing a shirt titled "The Periodic Table of Pirates" (black with white table of elements with jokes written in them), Levi jeans (juniors), and a grey zip-up hoodie with a skull and crossbones and rhinestones. And a black plastic headband with a butterfly on it, accenting my bleach blonde pixie with pink highlights.
Maybe I'm not dressing my age (24), but I sure am dressing my style!0 -
Dear person that wrote this...
I think we can all agree as women, we will wear what makes us feel good. Whether it be a cheaply made sun dress or a swanky pair of slacks from Banana Republic.
In no way does our clothing choices define who we are as people on the inside. If we feel great who the frick cares. Judge me because I can change out of my top that you think is hideous, but you can't change your incompetent MFP post.

I bought two 80 dollar sweaters at Ann Taylor, and I shop there often. The sweaters fell apart after one season. I had a pair of work out pants from Old Navy for 20 bucks that lasted 3 years. Sometimes it just depends.
That's weird. I'm pretty sure they're made in the same Indian sweatshops :huh:0 -
Here I am at a friends wedding in a Junior's Dress.......and I'm almost 32. Sometimes it's just hard to find nice things in the women's section.

You know what? I'm 37 and I shop in the juniors department because those are the clothes that fit me. I have a high waist so I have to buy my jeans, dress pants etc. in the juniors department because that's the only place where I can get low rise pants. I'm also petite but I don't particularly like the petite clothing, especially the pants (waist challenge aside) because they're too short. Just because I'm petite doesn't mean that I like my pants to be ankle length. Never mind the fact that most of the clothes in that department are for Pumpkin Sweater moms and are just old looking.
I can rock any junior outfit and I can make the clothes look professional. It's all about what you pair with it and how you dress it up or down for that matter. I don't care how old I am. I wear what I like and what looks good on me and what makes me NOT feel frumpy. If juniors clothing, tight fitting shirts, short skirts and booty shorts make me feel good then I'll wear it and I really don't give a crap what anyone thinks because in the grand scheme of things your opinion is meaningless.0
