jnheff - you just "bumped" the post by commenting on it. All it means is that you are keeping the stream active so that appears on the list of posts on the home page. Anytime someone comments on a post, the topic is "bumped".

Hi Ladies…Finally got my brace today…now let’s see if it works. They did a lot of fitting today and want me back in a couple of weeks. She gave me lots of information so I am looking forward to the next few days of trying it out.

Glendalight: a friend of mine on Facebook lives in Lethbridge and had posted some pictures taken near where she lives of the smoke from the fires…looked scary

Auntiebk: thanks for the info on roasting veggies. I had tried some a few weeks ago, but wasn’t sure what to do. This will give me a base to go on. I will defiantly try this within the next few days. I’m heading to the farmers market tomorrow.

Carolyn: I’ve never met a cat yet that would lower itself to doing something a mere human would want them to! LOL! Sometimes I will sprinkle or rub in cat nip on the scratch post…it works for a bit…but I’m sure they use it just to give me a false sense of hope that I am actually “training” them!

Barbiecat: Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. When we moved to the country 12 years ago, we were on a private road so didn’t have even one kid all those years, we moved here 2 years ago and even though we are closer to the city there are only 2 houses on this road and we don’t get a soul! I miss the decorating and dressing up.

Laura80111: Yes I am trying some chair exercises that another lady on this sight told me about, and they do help. I was talking to the people about my knee today and they said to keep going to the pool and just modify the leg movements for a bit so I will be giving that another try.

Well this was my first time opening a word document and copying it to here...yea for me and I didn't have to keep notes and wrack my poor brain trying to remember everything. Hope everyone has a good day.

I am totally getting stressed over not losing weight this week. I've weighed almost every day (I know, I know . . .) and every day is is up a bit. Tomorrow is my official weigh in and I'm thinking I won't record it if it's up.

This kicker is that last week and the beginning of this week were my most active ever. If the fitbit is correct, I've had a net loss of calories anywhere from 400 to 1200. So the response of most is that maybe I'm eating too few calories, so I've bumped it up for the last two day (although I still finish the day a negative.)

I can totally understand not showing a loss - but it seems mathematically impossible to show any gain at 175.4 pounds and 1600 calories a day with a daily burn betwee 25 and 3500.

I know I don't eat the best foods, but still such a difference in calories vs burn shouldn't result in an increase. I've lost weight by counting calories consumed and burned for the last 12 years and I've never gained if I was honestly recording everything.

Don't get stressed. our weights also cycle some still. I have a puffy week about every 6th or 7th week. I would seriously look at your sodium and how much water you are drinking. those things really play into your daily weight fluxuations. Once you have those under control if it still isn't changing I would look at your nutrition mix. Some people do better with lots of carbs and some do better with less carbs and more protein. Also if you have gone to non-fat crazy that can cause stalls in weight loss. Just keep tinkering with the mix until you get one that works.

Hello my dear friends. Hoping each of you is having a splendid day! I’m working away in my office; trying so hard to get my October class ready to roll. Once it starts, there is nothing to do but do with it; you can’t do any work on the course itself because things are so hectic.

It’s cool and rainy here today; we had about 2 inches of rain last night…very welcome! We are getting those darn taxes done….I hope we are through over the weekend. The hardest part is getting all the rental information done; we used to keep such good track of everything and since we got the girls…poof! No more organization at home! :frown:

I did well yesterday; met all my daily goals. I even exercised twice; once on my walk with my fitness buddy and when I got home, I got on the elliptical. Today should be good as well. I’m eatingcmy Healthy Choice entrée as I type! I plan to get back on the Bowflex tonight.

Cathy: sounds like lots of us have arthritis issues. Have you been able to find a personal trainer?

Robin: dance away! What joy! We call the dog groomer the “dog laundry”.

Linda: so sorry you feel awful today, but as you say, lesson learned! My best friend does telephone triage too and that’s what they call it too! At least you are able to stay in nursing in one way or another; that’s the beauty of the profession! :flowerforyou:

Jen: OMG I think I must be a bad mom. I stopped doing kid laundry in 2 weeks! When DH asked me to marry him, I said yes on 2 conditions: 1) I was not changing my last name and 2) If I don’t wear it, I don’t wash it. So I certainly wasn’t going to wash their clothes either! Actually they were kind of excited about it; they had never seen or heard of a washer and dryer, so it was fun for them.

Michele: we go to a pretty small church too (about 250 people). What kills me is that we are deacons and take turns serving communion and the lady in charge has told us we are the ONLY people who ever call if they can’t make it to an assigned service. Can you believe it? The people serving communion just don’t show up??? :noway:

Polly: great NSV and good for you to limit your craving like you did…waiting between and being controlled.

Gail: sounds like you had a great walk! Much better than indoors at the Y

Sheiria: welcome. We are not all teachers here so you will fit right in.

Nancy: I used to eat the same thing all the time then after about 2 years I rebelled and I think that’s when I put on a ton of weight. I think next week in clinical will be better. I know now I need to include protein in my snack and lunch. I think you are doing an amazing job with those young ladies!

Glenda: glad the fires are more under control

Barbie: such a cute graphic! Good idea about Halloween candy. I buy all the chocolate I can because I don’t like it!!! I don’t ever get into it, but if I buy smarties or something like that I will.

Cjspensley: Your dry cleaner shrinks your hubby’s clothes too? OMG what a coincidence! LOL  Yay for losing that pound and for good news on the measurements.

Barbara: we do tend to write long posts, don’t we? It’s encouraging and motivating to read them though!

Lila: glad you are feeling better today! Don’t sweat the dinner; as Linda says “lesson learned”!

Amanda: congratulations on your anniversary! You are indeed lucky! :flowerforyou:

Liz: I don’t exclude any food from my diet. I think that is too hard to do for a lifetime. I eat potatoes, but like everything, in moderation. One week we may have none, the next week have them twice. Sweet potatoes are yummy too. I haven’t heard that they cause bloating but I suppose it’s possible.

Carolyn: Declaw! LOL. I have always had declawed cats, but my friends who keep the claws say to put them on the scratching post every time you see them scratching somewhere else. If they seem to have a favorite spot, you can spray it with bitter apple (available at pet stores). The problem with that training method is that it takes about 2 weeks of doing it consistently, which basically means you can’t leave the house.

Nancy: I say wear the LuLu Lemon tank tops! What a hoot! OK, so what IS a LuLuLemon tank top?

M: I havent’ tried roasting veggies before, but they are on the menu for this coming week. As far as the puppies go….can you adopt a doggie that wouldn’t get adopted otherwise? That’s how we ended up with Benny Beagle who was about 7 when we got him. I actually was looking for a blind, 3-legged pit bull (hubby used to raise them and we love them) but never could find a “special needs” pitty that could go to a house with cats. So instead we got a toothless old Beagle who doesn’t bark LOL

12774: good news on the skin! I sometimes spray baby oil on my skin or use the baby oil lotion.

Wessecg: could your gain be water weight? How’s your sodium intake? Related to your cycle?

Laura: yay for salmon victories! What do you take for lunch? I usually take things I couldn’t prep too far ahead, although I can decide what they will be. I guess I need some good ideas for lunch!

Janie: say “bump” LOL. It’s just a saying to show that you were here so the thread shows up on “My posts”.

Cathy: hooray for word! I wouldn’t be able to post without it either

Holy cow there were so many posts to respond to. It’s amazing to see what we are all up to and to celebrate our victories with each other. OK, lunch break is over; I must accomplish something! Take care, Meg :drinker:

Just got home from swimming and shopping. My triceps are soooo sore, from the swimming but I am not going to stop. I had to share the lane again with the same young soldier I swam with Tues. He's a hottie!!:blushing: I swam more today and rested less, then went and bought some goggles. I'm going to keep the 2 days a week and add strength training after walking on Mon, Wed and Fri, with just walking on Sat and off on Sunday.

Linda and Barbie- I no longer have to worry about candy for Halloween, we live out in the country and the houses are too far apart. But when we lived in another town they would bring kids over to the neighborhood, I just bought candy I didn't like. And yes ladies there is candy I don't like LOL.

Meg-good for you, meeting all your goals, I know life gets crazy and stops us sometime.

Liz- I eat sweet potatoes, no wheat or white and yes I feel fuller eating heavier foods like sweet potatoes.

    Amanda--Happy Anniversary

Carolyn- I use sticky tape that you can get from the pet store. It is sticky on both sides and my cat Danni hates it. He likes to claw the furniture and DH has threatened to have him declawed. He isn't the only one, just the one DH catches.:ohwell:

Barbara- Thanks for the recipe, I will have to try that, it sounds yummy.

I'll stop by later, got to return some DVD's Tigress.

    Hello Ladies,

I've really enjoyed the cooler weather in Denver over the past two days! It seems like I'm always ready when the seasons start to change. I spent four days up in Vail by myself (hubby was being difficult), and I'm feeling so much more relaxed. The leaves have started turning up there, so it was gorgeous! I did some walking and tried water aerobics (couldn't move the rest of the day!). I also got in a lot of reading next to the creek, and watched the movies that I wanted to see at night, along with a glass of wine. Nice.

Megblair -- I think it was you who posted a while back about salmon poached in wine? It's wonderful! I've also tried it with scallops. So simple and delicious. I add some lemon and a sprinkle of salt, and it's to die for. As an aside, I've kept wine since the '70s, thinking that it was supposed to get better with age. NOT! The bottles have started imploding and turning vinegary. The day that I decided to try your recipe, the only white wine I could find in the house was from 1986. I opened it and used it, but felt guilty using such old wine for cooking. It was just starting to get a little vinegary, but wasn't bad, so I drank a glass too! (Also part of your recipe, I think).

Amanda -- Happy Anniversary a day late! I hope you had a wonderful day. It sounds like you've been together for a long time, which is quite an accomplishment in this day and age.

Wessecg -- It's always been my pattern to drop weight every two weeks (2-3 lbs.) instead of each week, so maybe your body is just taking a short break. Or I'm wondering if it could be water retention from the extra exercise? Or could you be building muscle from the exercise, which weighs more than fat? Try checking your measurements and see if you've lost there. Our bodies are sometimes hard to understand, but I know that you'll be successful in the long run if you just keep at it -- this is just a small bump in the road!

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the coming of fall!

Jane, I'm so jealous! I'm really missing Colorado in the fall (although I hear it rained yesterday). I still have a kiddo and my mom there and try to get back as often as possible, but it's never enough and much harder with another kiddo and grandkidlet further out in California. I'm racking up the Southwest miles though :). Vail is lovely - and it sounds like you really relaxed.

Have you tried cooking salmon on a cedar plank? We thought it would be meh, but any fish we use has been fabulous. You don't have to do a lot to it, but you could mix a little dill and mustard into greek yogurt and slather it over the top and it's to die for - or brush the fish with a little vinaigrette before you put it on the plank. It doesn't take long to cook (maybe 15 - 20 minutes) and it's so good!
  • Hello Everyone!

I am so proud of myself. Today, it's the University library's birthday. Every year, they pass out birthday cake. The library is next door to my office. In prior years, I would have two pieces of chocolate cake with white frosting. Today, I got a very small piece of cake, ate four small forkfuls and threw half of it away.

I have been doing quite well since I have joined this site. The food diary and exercise diary has helped me so much. Also, participating in the monthly challenge has motivated to eat healthy foods, exercise, and drink water. I thought I would go into
serious sugar and caffeine withdrawals, but it has not been the case. I am feeling great. I weigh in tomorrow and am not too concerned about how much I have lost this week. I am just happy that I am changing my eating habits and today proved that I do have willpower!

I hope it's water retention. I haven't really been exercising, just doing tons of walking in my daily activities. This is what fitbit shows - which would indiate a two pound loss - not the one pound gain I saw today. I don't think it should matter, but a lot of my dinners have been after 8 in the evening as that's when I've been able to get home. Oh well, the scale will tell tomorrow. How can I purge any excess water weight tonight????

Where are you living now? I'm from western Montana, and Colorado is exactly like home except that it has a LOT more people! I've been in the Denver area for 32 years now -- came for graduate school, got married and never left.

I've heard of cooking on a plank, but never tried it. Where do you get the plank? Do you just go to a lumber yard, or is it something that you buy in a specialty cookware store? Sorry to be so ignorant. I assume you put it in the oven -- and it doesn't burn? Do you need to put oil on it first? I'm full of questions, I know. I do love my fish and would like to try something new.

My husband is Persian, and we do a lot of that type food. Have any of you tried it?

When I did Slimgenetics a few years back, they told us to put a capful of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar into a glass of water to act as a diuretic.

So many posts to catch up on! I will read them all but don't have much time to reply now. Last item on the to-do list, while DH is on vacation, is cleaning carpets. We're going to tackle this in a few minutes and then going to the Quad cities for a few days of fun and relaxation!

Cathy - I'm glad you finally got your brace and hope it helps!

Cjspensley - I was laughing when I read -"He will eat dinner, then an hour later have a bowl of cereal, then later have some ice cream." Your hubby must be related to mine!!!! He does the same thing and has the tummy to prove it! He does eat the healthy recipes I've been making as long as he doesn't see all the ingredients! Heaven forbid, he see the word Light or Low anything on the package!

    Amanda - Happy Anniversary!

Mwheatcraft54 - I've been getting more headaches than normal too and also am thinking it's due to changing weather (hopefully). After our last old dog passed away in 2010, we decided no more dogs but about six months laters we got one because the house just seemed too quite (even though we have cats) and then of course he had to have a buddy a few months later.

My short term goal is to eat still eat healthy the next few days while away from home! There will be a pool at least so I can still get exercise in! Just looking forward to getting away, just the 2 of us and de-stressing!

    Take care all!

It's great to read everyone's words. I have been missing for all of August and half of September. I can't believe how the time has flown. I have really focused on taking care of my knees. I started physical therapy this summer so it really changed my exercise. It is really important to build stamina slowly. I had to "get over" being so mad at myself for doing too much to fast and really hurting myself. The lack of exercise just made everything so much harder--especially losing weight. I do track and keep lots of info just so that I can see what's working and what's not working. Finally, I seem to be getting into a better rhythm. Exercise is the thing that I truly need---even when my food choices are good, I REALLY need to move.

I am looking forward to getting back into the habit of checking in here. Hopefully my computer will be cooperative (that has been another challenge in the past month but its happy today!).

Good to "see " you all again!
    Have a great night,
    Sally

Polly - so sorry you aren't feeling well, but glad you got to the gym anyway. Fitting into that skirt is wonderful! You know, some days it just seems that I really use up the calories, and other days even tho I'm not hungry, I don't use as many. Go figure!

Sheirai - I honestly feel that any mother is a teacher -- we're constantly teaching our children all sorts of things. We're teachers and lots else. Welcome to the group!

Nancy - the minute I read about the gym boss, I hurried up and looked it up. I wonder if it can be downloaded to an iPod? I'd really love something like this. It can be such a pain to always watch the timer on cardio equipment to see when you need to speed up when doing intervals, this would be absolutely great! I think I need to check this out more to be sure it can be downloaded to an iPod, but if it can, that would be WONDERFUL. Also, if your not constantly looking at the time, it'll probably go by much faster. Am I correct in assuming that there's some sort of music and at certain intervals you get some sort of indicator (maybe a chime or something)?

glendalight and other - how right you are, 50 IS very freeing. If we make a mistake, you can always say "well, I'm not 20 any more". The things we can get away with! Like wearing an out-of-date dress.

Barb - yes, those mini donuts are baked and not fried. I just haven't figured out yet what's the best way to ice them, they're so small. As far as my ankles, I honestly think it's more of a seasonal thing because lately it's gotten cooler and I don't have anywhere near the problem that I had. I, too, buy the Halloween candy at the last minute. Problem comes in that Vince buys it earlier, and when he does, it just put it out-of-the-way and let him eat candy that I don't like. Update: Vince just finished the doughnuts even tho they weren't iced!

Did 1-1/2 hr of "I Want That Body" DVD. Actually, there are two programs - level 1 and level 2. I thought Level 2 was challenging, so I made a note to only do that level. Tomorrow is water aerobics. Sat. I'll go to yoga and then they're having this "fitness extravaganza" at the Y where you can try out classes. I'm going to try the zumba, but the only time they have classes doesn't work into my schedule. However, if I like it enough, maybe I'll get the zumba for the Wii or else a zumba DVD

    Amanda - feel better fast!

I just realized that I still have these holiday 3Musketeers in my pantry from last year. What I like about them is that they're mint. The good thing about the Halloween holiday is that there are lots of coupons...lol When Vince worked for Mars, Halloween was their really big time, as you can imagine.

Liz - I find that when I eat a baked potato, since I don't put butter or sour cream or anything else on it (except maybe sometimes an herb), I want to drink more water, it can be somewhat dry. But drinking add'l water is good. Did you drink a lot when you had the potato? That could be why you're feeling so full.

Carolyn - right now I'm making these plastic canvas coaters for a friend for Christmas. I just got these coasters that are kittens, I need to make them. Maybe for next Christmas for the kids.

Nancy - since you were a lifeguard, do you have any tips about getting your feet dry? In the winter, you have socks and shoes on, I'm always concerned that if I don't get my feet dry I might develop some sort of foot fungus. Last year I used baby powder, but one thing I found is that no matter how hard I tried, I ALWAYS got some of the powder on my pants. I guess I could try putting the pants on first, then using the baby powder. Don't know how that'll work out. Someone one time suggested using a blowdryer on your feet, but honestly I try to take as few things to the Y as possible, plus I try to get out of there asap because we usually have senior bowling that afternoon. J'boy sounds a lot like Vince who didn't want to eat a purple potato because "it looks weird"

mwheatcraft - try using weights when you do the pushups. Instead of putting your hand flush to the floor, hold onto the weights (no, you don't lift them). That should help take some of the pressure off your wrists. So sorry about your doggies. Getting another one might be a good answer.

The guy to cut out the spillover for the spa just came, so I'll be out on the deck, stringing popcorn, watching him. To me , this should be very interesting.

12774 - that's great the you shower. I know there are times when I don't and I usually regret it later in the day.

wessecg - I hear the frustration in your post. Please remember that your body was in starvation mode for so long that it's most likely taking it a while to realize that you won't be putting it back in starvation mode. Generations ago (before refrigeration) man would increase his caloric intake during bountiful times (and so the body would store fat) in anticipation of lean times. Unfortunately, our bodies haven't adjusted to the fact that we have food available to us year-round. Right now your body probably thinks its in a bountiful time and its storing up for a lean time. Give it time for your body to realize that you'll always be giving it food. Oh, yes, sodium has a lot to do with it. You said that you know some things you eat aren't the greatest. Perhaps they're high in sodium? I'd check. Even things that you don't think have somdium in them sometimes do. Like I was looking at WalMart applesauce. Do you know that it contains salt? I almost fell over. I'm sure its there to enhance the flavor of the apple, but I don't want enhanced flavor, I want the flavor of the apple. So I went back to my old brand. Whenever I eat late at night, regardless of how many calories I have left for the day, I can always be guaranteed of a weight gain the next day. That's just me.

Not only does my dry cleaner shrink my clothes, but my dryer does, too!!!!

Right now I'm making these M&M cookies for the workers. In a way, I'll be so glad when this is done because I won't feel like baking any more. Cookies that have been baked, I can leave. But raw cookie dough is my big downfall.

After they installed the spillover today they cleaned the pool (well, as much as they could). Right after they left, I was in my bathingsuit in the pool. They had to empty the spa so Vince put water back in it. Tomorrow he's supposed to run the spillover, mainly to be sure that it works like it should and that there aren't any leaks.

Dogmom - good for you throwing away that cake. Look how far you've come! "We've come a long way baby...."

Well, the guy came and cut out the pool and the wall for the spillover. The general contractor was of the opinion that it would be a 2 day job, but he said that he got some of this quick setting stuff so it only needs one day for him to work. He will be back later to install the handrails, but that'll be a ways off.

Laura - sometimes I find it so annoying when I buy something for Vince and he won't eat it, so I wind up having to finish it. Like I bought a cantaloupe while ago and Vince ate the whole thing. I bought two more, and he thinks that's what got him feeling sick. There's nothing wrong with it, but guess who's going to wind up eating it? Well, at least it's cantaloupe. But it's just annoying that he thinks that's what made him feel sick. He's probably just not used to good food. Bought it from the same farmer and all, same variety of cantaloupe.

Cathy - woo hoo on getting the brace! I hope it works for you.

Don't ask me to explain this, but every time it seems that I go in the pool, when I get out, I'm really energized and ready to do cleaning. Weird! Maybe it's because I'm so rested and cooled off.

Here's hoping everyone has a great evening.

30 minutes tapping. I really am not good at all but practice practice practice and maybe I will be able to do it. Work is busting my butt and I am so tired but I did my tap anyway.

I will be back tomorrow all.

:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Robin, when I started line dancing in 2004, my goals were to not fall down, not knock anyone else down, and to keep coming back......eventually I got to be skilled enough to be relaxed and enjoy dancing.....never, never, never give up.

    Hi,

Just a quick note to say hi! I am so exhausted today! I am waking up tired, took a little nap and I am still tired! I think it must have something to do with still having periods at 55!

So, now the months of counting for that year to go by to say- hip hip hooray I am finally menopausal, start all over again!

I need to get back to the gym and maybe this will get me back to feeling better! Tomorrow, I will go and ride the bike!::drinker: :drinker:

Keeping busy with the girls and school, animals, and loads of laundry!

Hope you all have a great Friday and weekend. I am working this weekend!!!

    Happy Anniversary Amanda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Blessings,
    Linda

I'm tired tonight  and my iPad is really annoying me, for some reason the keypad isn't working right:grumble: , it's almost like it's sticking:huh: . Anyhow it's been a strange day and I'm ready for it to be over so I'm just going to bed. Hope for a better day tomorrow!!!!

    Hugs,

I have not lost a pound in over a month!!! I know I need to bump up the exercise to get over this hump but doggonnit I'm lazy!! I did add some cardio at home after the gym yesterday and I did some cardio at home tonight. I'll hit the gym tomorrow for strength and cardio and try to get some in at least once this weekend. I just hope it's enough to start the scale moving again!
