For you diet soda drinkers out there...

I won't bother reading through all the pages of comments, but for anyone wanting a lifestyle change and not just to lose weight they would probably be interested in the information she posted. Pop is not natural, plain and simple. The healthiest thing for your body is ... water.

I quit smoking cold turkey 4 years ago...okay, I've had the ODD cigarette since then, but maybe one smoke a year...if that. Anyway, I had an easier time quitting THAT habit than I do quitting diet coke...sigh.0

Sorry to tell you,but that's crap! I am a diabetic, blood sugars under control. In fact, I'm off my meds. Losing 2lbs a week. Drink 2 diet sodas a day. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't eat chocolate or fried foods, and I am totally celibate. So, don't think your taking the only thing that saves me from a chocolate or Taco binge. Tomorrow I should be down another 2 + lbs.0

What about diabetics??? I have had type one diabetes for 26 years now. Ever since I've had to drink Diet Soda.....I have always been a normal weight... I gained weight after I had an auto accident and was unable to walk for one year.0

I didn't know diet soda was affecting my weight loss. I've lost several hundred pounds over the years and could never keep it off. After working out for 2 months I decided to start tweeking my diet and eating healthier. I decided to take a break from diet soda just because it's a big can of chemicals. I fully intended to drink more. Within 2 weeks I felt so much calmer about food. A lot of my sugar and simple carb cravings had greatly reduced. I decided to just stay off diet soda and see if it were a fluke. I have now not had diet soda for 8 months. The first 2 months were hard I had so many rituals wrapped around my soda drinking. I didn't know it, but I had bought a small table for my beach cabin just so I had a place to sit my soda in the evening by the couch. When I went to the cabin I set up my table and realized I wasn't going to put a soda on it. Any how every one needs to make their own decision for them selves. My husband says diet soda doesn't affect him. I feel it does affect me. I won't be drinking diet soda ever again. I drink water and I've learned to love it.0

Just finished a Diet Coke with dinner *ahhhhhhh*. I've also drank 10 cups of water today and will get 2-4 more in before bedtime. Everything in moderation.0

The chemicals in diet soda has nothing to do with weight gain or loss. Of course it's not healthy for you. We all know that. Will it kill me if I drink one a month. I think it is more unhealthy to be obese than it is to drink a diet soda on occasion.0

Zevia for me ... Only because I can actually pronounce everything that is in the ingredient list lol0

I've lost 56lbs in 6 months & have been drinking Coke Zero when i want to. Dont see how that put fat on me at all. I will be lucky to drink on 600ml bottle & my son has the rest of what I cant drink. I used to drink normal coke all day every day, combine that with no exercise & that IS what makes you fat. I'm talking all day & all night drinking nothing but that.....for years & years. Switched to coke zero before I was wanting to lose weight (went cold turkey of coke & it was the best thing I done) and now when I have a meal out its either water or zero.
Now tell me where I've put on this weight from 'fake' sugar or where the vitamins are being sucked out of me?
I've never felt or looked better.0 -

Brilliant!! Diet anything else just rubbish and more work for your body to process that could be processing real calories.0 -
Not losing weight fast enough? Diet soda is worse for you than regular soda. Anyone wanting a healthy life style shouldn't drink any sodas. If you must, at least stay away from the fake sugar. The aspartame used in diet sodas also causes vitamins to be leached from your bodies and it is also highly carcinogenic. Studies have found that bodies react to fake sugar in the same way as real sugar. It might not have as many calories but your body still creates fat in response.

I'm posting this for my mom and aunts who are diet coke addicts.
Wow you are saving people!!!
OK Sorry for the sarcasm but, It seems like the suedo science you are quoting sounds familiar.
Eggs, red meat, dairy, margarine, are all bad for you.
While at one point in time Doctors used to recommend smoking, medical speed, diets high in pasta to diabetics...
All joking aside.
Soda or pop in general is not good for you. Neither is smoking, diet pills, or jumping to conclusions.
I understand you wanting to control your families actions but let it go!

I have read that artificial sweeteners cause your body to react the same way as sugar by increasing your insulin which can make you more hungry. If this is true, it is your response to that hunger that will make you gain weight not the artificial sweetener. I mostly stay away from artificial sweeteners because they aggravate my IBS.

Thanks for all the great websites!0

There is no way my body creates fat in response to fake sugar--at least not in any way that matters. I drink way too much diet soda and have never been able to quit. The longest I have gone intentionally is 24 hours. It keeps me from eating or drinking something that would put more fat on.0

PMSL - create fat?!
Does anyone here understand physics? Energy cannot be created only transferred. And insulin is released in the same amounts with protein and carbs.
Some utterly retarded responses on this thread. Please guys, please lets not try to post on things you don't remotely understand!0 -

A word of advice from one who does research for a living. Be cautious of trials with low subject counts. The aspartame study on had 6 subjects if I recall. Even though the area under the curve showed a 40% difference, the statistics showed 'no significant difference'. This can be attributed to the low sample size. Had the sample size been a bit larger, a 40% difference would have been considered significantly different.
The Acesulfame K trial was conducted on rats. Beware of animal studies. Many animals have different enzymes which can cause different results in their bodies which humans will not see, or the opposite. Case in point, CLA works well in mice as a fat loss aid, but not in humans.0 -
