I apologize before this post... my dad forwarded this to me. :blushing:
I was in the restaurant yesterday when I suddenly realized I desperately needed to pass gas.
The music was really, really loud, so I timed my gas with the beat of the music.
After a couple of songs, I started to feel better. I finished my coffee, and noticed that everybody was staring at me.
....Then I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my iPod. :laugh: :laugh:
Anyone else have this problem following a diet with increased fiber?!? :sad:0 -

Yes, it's a real problem. Not only a lot of gas, but exceptional "quality" of gas. Seriously sulfuric deathgas,,, like, paint-peeling green cloud gas. My wife is ready to get a cork, or a gun.
She wants me to go outside, and I'm starting to do it when I'm having one of "those" days.0 -
The change in diet definitely has odoriferous effects. I agree with Casper. My experience has been no so much with quantity but with the down wind birds that keep falling out of the sky.0

I was "regular" before, but now I am.....let's just say my system is very clean. And with regard to the gas, I am a walking "time bomb" :noway: :laugh: :laugh:0

The other night, my wife were lying in bed. I was rubbing my wife's back with the dog between us. I let a nice melodious release, and she thought it was the dog growling. She asked, "What's he growling about?" I told her he was jealous that I was rubbing her back and not him!!! :laugh: :laugh:0

I have really been enjoying the support, friendship, and fun that is found here at the Man to Man Forum. We are all various ages, sizes, and backgrounds, but when we get together none of that matters. I look forward to checking out the posts, which can be informative, funny, and just downright weird. But this is what makes the Man to Man Forum what it is. You men do an awesome job for one another and I just wanted to take a moment to point that out. :drinker:

With regards to the gas caused by healthy eating. I find that on my extended workout sessions at the gym I got to let them loose. Anything improper with that? I never had to before but I think its due to my dedication and effort in exercise...0

That kind'a depends on where you are:
A real musclehead gym with big plates of iron and lot'sa mirrors? It's expected and approved and sometimes appreciated.
Your basic YMCA/Bally's/Anytime fitness? not appreciated, but what happens happens. You are lifting weights there.
Planet Fitness? They don't allow grunting or straining, so I'm pretty sure they don't allow farting. Might set off the 'lunk alarm',,, :bigsmile: Wierd,,, they give away pizza and bagels, and those starches always give me gas.0 -
Well it's a Bally's but it's pretty run-down though. I wouldn't call it a classy establishment, lol. But yeah it'd be interesting to find one of those places where it's appreciated.
Hey more serious question, every guy wants to be muscular and cut and have a low body fat%. I'm skinny dude under a layer of fat, my pursuit has been to remove that fat and then get muscular without getting fat, but it's taking it's time and I appear to get muscle gains a little faster than fat losses, so should I just pursue getting the muscle mass first and focus on losing the fat later?0 -
Why pose it as an either/or question. Why not do both... since they are mutually compatible?0

To gain muscle mass, you must have an excess of calories/proteins/building materials in your system. You're adding body mass, and that mass has to come from somewhere. Bodybuilders in a 'bulking cycle' eat phenomenal amounts of food - 5,ooo/6,ooo calories a day. They also lift like monsters and get lots of rest. They get bigger, huge in fact, and they get pretty fat. 3 or 4 months before a show, the Mr. Olympia contestants look like your dad's bowling team.
To lose bodyfat, you must be in calorie deficit. That means you're not eating enough to run the plant and your body has to 'burn' bodyfat to operate. That's how fat loss works, and it's the only way it works. With exercise and careful nutrition, you can maximize fat loss and conserve lean pretty well, but you're gonna lose some muscle too. Bodybuilders in a 'cutting cycle' eat very light, almost no refined carbs and very little fat. They live on lean meats, green vegetables, protein powder and vitamins. They also lift a little longer and a little lighter, and they do monster cardio to burn off cal's and bodyfat.
Anyways,,, either you're eating enough or you ain't. Very difficult to gain appreciable amounts of muscle mass while in a calorie deficit, and very very tough to lose bodyfat while in calorie surplus. A few rare genetic freaks can do it a little, very slowly. As a long time 'easy gainer', I've done it, and the progress is glacial. When I train seriously again it'll be with bulk&cut cycles.
Which to do first is up to you. What's more important to you - lean/trim or big/strong? My rule of thumb is "Cut 'til you see abs - then bulk for 15 pounds - then cut to abs again (and you'll lose 12 pounds, net muscle gain = 3 lbs).0 -

"Will you spend this on greens fees at a golf course instead of food?" the man asked.
"Are you NUTS!" replied the homeless man. "I haven't played golf in 20 years!"
"Will you spend the money on a woman in the red light district instead of food?" the man asked.
"What disease would I get for ten lousy bucks?" exclaimed the homeless man.
"Well," said the man, "I'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I'm going to take you home for a terrific dinner cooked by my wife."
The homeless man was astounded. "Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting."
The man replied, "That's okay. It's important for her to see what a man looks like after he has given up beer, fishing, golf, and sex."0 -
If I'm trying to cut in that case, should I be increasing the weight when I lift or just leave it where it stands. What's the point of weight lifting at all if in the "cut" phase of caloric deficit if there's no excess to build up the muscles?
But thanks for that Casper, now I got to determine which route I want to take, bulk then cut, or cut first. I don't like how I feel when I'm fat so I'm veering more towards cut, but man it's slow.0 -
The body is constantly adjusting,,, adding fat when there's excess nutrition, removing fat when needed for fuel. Adding muscle as a response to stresses (needs for more muscle, because of workload/training). Even the bones are constantly adjusting as response to stress, adding or subtracting bone mass. A powerlifter's femurs are like telephone poles. This is why they recommend resistance training for women to minimize osteoporosis.
If you stop lifting/training altogether, as your body 'cannibalizes' itself for energy while in calorie deficit, it will strip some of your shiny new muscle too - hey, it's easy protein. If you keep some stress on your body with continued training it will go a long way toward minimizing loss of muscle tissue.
While cutting, most B-builders will still train to failure, but instead of 4 or 5 reps at 80% of max, they might stretch it out to 10 or 12 reps at 65% of max. And they add cardio. Lots of cardio.0 -

J/k. Casper, when you said you'll start once you "see" your abs, what does that mean body fat %-wise? I mean we talkn' six-pack, or just those two verticle lines that separate the obliques from the core? We talkn 10-13% body fat, or 16-18%?

Heys, I'm in, although I'm probably younger than most of you (only 19) I hope I can relate still, since I am a guy
since it's just us guys here, I made a post before, but no one is really answering to it, here's the situation:
I went to the hospital yesterday because I had pain in my "ahem",... Turns out I have "Epididymitis" :ohwell:
So it feels like someone punched me down there, but the soreness won't go away, anyways, I want to exercise still but it says to get lots of bedrest, any suggestions on light exercise but still a good way to burn calories? As walking and such gets the infection and inflammation going again. :grumble:0 -

I've always thought I was around 12-14% when my abs show....... I'll try to post a pic.....I don't mind taking my shirt off anymore....lost 25lbs last year!!! Anybody know if I am 12-14% ????? I've never taken a real body fat test before?
