Your engagement ring/wedding set

We picked ours out together because I have very exacting standards about jewelry.0

He picked the engagement ring out all on his own. He even sized my finger one night while I was asleep to get the size close enough for me to wear it when he proposed. I wasn't even expecting him to propose when he did. I knew he would propose when he was ready. He picked out a beautiful solitare and then we designed my wedding ring together. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.0

Me & my boyfriend talked about marriage & he asked what kind of ring I wanted. Months later he surprised me with a pretty ring when he purposed. The ring was nice but it didn't fit what I NEEDED. It was too thin of a medal & I was afraid I'd bend it (I'm a rough girl who camps, fishes, ect.). I asked him if he'd be terribly disapointed if I returned it & he told me that I was the one that had to wear it so whatever ring I wear he just wants me to be happy with it. So I took it back & bought the ring I wanted. My maid of honor asked me if that would be "juju" (bad luck) but I responded, "Juju would be being stuck with a ring I hated for the rest of my life!" ...."good point". She said.
Ultimatly, every couple & every individual is different. Whether you have a romantic story to tell of the purposal & ring or you come out of jewlery store happy as can be ...as long as you are marrying the love of your life ...it shouldn't matter. Good luck to you0 -
The day after we got engaged, we went shopping for the engagement ring together - it was a joint choice0

I used a 1.25 carat diamond that was in the family. I purchased the setting with another 1 carat in diamonds with my future wife present. Her wedding ring also has 1 carat in diamonds on it and matches the engagement ring. I got a plain gold ring which sits in a box in my closet.
How do the ladies feel about their SO not wearing his wedding ring? I wore mine for about a week. I just do not like to wear jewelry so I took it off.
Exhole wore his for less than 24 hours because he doesn't like jewelry. He sould have said something before we bought it because we could have saved the money. When I told him I wanted a divorce 15 years later, he started wearing it assuming that would make our marriage better.0 -
our engagement was very casual, we were just stting aorund talking and got to talking about a wedding, and realized we were planning it, w/o being engaged so it was like "hey, we should be engaged, will you marry me?" "ok" type situation. we went to the mall the next day. We were poor college students, my engagement ring was about $150, and our wedding bands together were about 200. I lost my wedding band a few years ago, and it was replaced with one with more sparkles (about $250 or so)
They aren't a "set" per say, but they look nice together. lots of small diamonds.0 -
My engagement ring is my husband's signet ring. We went to Kmart and got our wedding bands and I paid for them.0

:blushing: i never got an engagment ring, we didnt have the money for it and our wedding bands cost $30 for the set at walmart......grand total for the wedding was........$100.
$60 for the judge
$30 for the rings
$10 for the dollar menu at mcdonalds after:laugh:0 -
We both picked out our own stuff and we're both really happy. To keep the surprise element, he kept it a secret as to when he had the ring in hand and then proposed at a later date. It was sweet, and I really like my rings0

I've been with my guy for almost 9 years now, he proposed last November. He knew what I wanted because we had talked about it years ago, pear shaped diamond with a white gold band. That's what I got and I love it. I'm getting the Tiffany alternating victoria ring for my wedding band. I love that it's different from the norm. One of my friends couldn't believe I wanted a pear but I like different and almost everyone I know who's engaged or married has princess or round. I get so many compliments on my pear and I can't wait to see the sparkle with the diamond band One month and one day away!
As for my guy wearing his ring, he will wear his all the time except for when he works out. I bought him a special ring for either a birthday or anniversary and he wears it all the time except for when he works out. I love jewelry so I wear mine all the time except for when I weight lift.0 -
My husband chose the ring himself (even got the size right!) and gave it to me when he proposed. It's gorgeous - platinum with a little diamond. Our wedding rings are plain platinum bands.0

He proposed with a set he already had from some kind of trade or something from someone who owed him money. Then we were just looking and he thought I needed a bigger diamond the month before we got married. Took us two years after we were married to pay it off. Oh well we have been married 22 years and I still have the same set. We picked out our rings together.0

We used my great grandmother's ring so I had to fork it over in order to get it re-sized. We had talked about it for a long time in advance.0

First engagement, he sent my college roommate and i out to look and see what i liked. Then we went and bought the ring together, where (and I'm completely not kidding) he sat in the front seat of his Ford Escort, called my dad to ask permission, and proposed. I'm not asking for skywriting, but *a little* romance to it would have been nice.
My current boyfriend and i have been together 2 years, and we talk about it. We went on a "fact finding mission" to look at lots of rings. I don't care if I have a diamond-I'm an April baby, so it's my birthstone. We found a Peridot (anniversary is August) and an Emerald (we both have Scot/Irish heritage) that we loved, and were WAY less expensive than any diamond that would be pretty. He knows that I'll tell him I love whatever he gets when he gets it, but he's also said he'll take my sister with him. Her taste is a little more "frufru" than mine, but he knows she'd point him in the right style direction.
Frankly, I don't mind if he wants me to go help pick something out-just keep the popping of questions a surprise0 -
My fiance caught me totally off guard and proposed to me at midnight New Year's Eve. He picked out a temporary ring because he said he couldn't just give me an empty box.. He told me to pick out the setting I wanted for a diamond that I inherited from my grandmother. Lucky for me, my dear friend is a wholesale jeweler.0

My grandmother gave my husband her first wedding set, my grandfather bought her a new one like 30 years ago. They've been married going on 51 years now, maybe 52. These rings were always going to be mine, in her will and all, but she wanted us to get married because she really liked him, she snuck them to him during a visit when we saw her shortly after the birth of our first daughter. When he gave them to me, I was really shocked and I think the fact that she gave them to him to give to me, instead of just leaving them in her will, meant more to me than the engagement. We were together for over 4 years before that, so I just assumed it would happen some day anyway, lol.0

He proposed with my mother's ring, and then I picked mine out. I bought mine off of divadiamonds online for about 20% of the price. Looks great and yes, the diamonds tested real.
I bought his off of ebay, custom made to have two white diamonds and a blue in the center to match mine. Also perfect and not very expensive.0 -
we got married with simple white gold bands we picked out together. Then went to the pawn shop about six months later and I picked out my diamond. I would have been happy with just the band, but my husband insisted on getting me a diamond. Not that I mind0
-
I did it all on my own, with the help of a jeweler. I picked out a stone, the setting and the cut . My wife loved it.0

I just got engaged on Fri. My fiance and I had looked at rings together a couple of times -- he knew what I liked (and more importantly what I didn't -- anything over 3/4 carat is too big, yellow gold is a big no-no,solitaire princess/round/cushion cut are acceptable) - I'm not hard to please
We were in the mall a couple weeks ago and we looked again, and he had me get re-sized.... He ended up getting me a white gold cushion cut 5/8 ct solitaire cathedral mounted ring from jared on Friday. No sappy romantic proposal -- he asked me if I wanted to be dixies mom (his dog) while we were watching tv on Friday night!....
I know what kind of band he wants, but I'm not completely decided on the band for me.0 -
Prior to getting married, my husband and I discussed wedding band sets. We chose our sets together on line thru USAA. I was set on platinum with a nice solitaire diamond. I had been checking on the type of cut I wanted, since I am the one who is going to wear it we agree on the price, although the bigger the better. I am very happy and satisfied with my ring and band set.0
-
He picked it out all on his own and I wouldn't have it any other way, its from his heart, the ring is something he thought was pretty enough to be on my finger, how'd I get him to marry me, well lol i got pregnant lol! we was 18/17 btw and now we r 30 and still married :b)0

My then-boyfriend, now-husband gave me an inexpensive silver ring that some panhandling hobo gave to him, as a thank you for giving him some change. (SO random, I know!!) I loved that ring, and I knew if I ever ended up marrying the guy, I'd want that ring remade in white gold with diamonds, as my engagement ring. So when things started looking serious, we took the ring to a jeweler and had my dream ring made, using the original as the template. I didn't get to see it til he proposed. When it was finished, he didn't tell me, but took me out to the fanciest restaurant in town. (roses and champagne on ice waiting at our table when we got there) He got on one knee in front of everybody and pulled out the ring. I cried a little.0

I didn't get my wife a diamond either as we were dirt poor. We did get matching gold bands that were probably around $100 each. We had less than 20 people present for our wedding and had it at a restaraunt with a private room. The whole thing was less than $2000.
We'll have been married 11 years in October and my hope is to be able to buy a nice diamond for our 15th anniverary.0 -
We picked the ring out together, but we were poor and had to put it on lay-away...we got married without it. So he did surprise me when he actually brought it home.
Also, on our 20th anniversary (since he found out the year before he never "really" proposed) he bought me a new engagement (solitaire) ring, we went to Grand Cayman (for our 20th Anniversary and he got down on his knee in a restaurant on the beach (7 mile beach) and asked me to marry him. :`) such a romantic.
My original ring is packed away....I wear my 10 year anniversary ring on my right hand and the new set (because he bought me a band and wrap to go with the solitaire for our 22nd anniversary) and the new ring goes on my left. I know this isn't "traditional" but we were too poor to have a nice ring when we got married, so he made up for it later (btw - I also bought him a much nicer ring with diamonds too; after all he's WORTH IT!!!)0 -
My husband asked me to marry him on Christmas Eve and we had only been dating for two months, even though we have known each other our entire life...LOL!! I never imagined us being married, I still have to pinch myself!! He pulled out the ring (I had no idea) and told me that it only really took him two weeks to know that I was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with but he waited two months so I wouldn't think he was insane...LOL!!. I said yes! We started planning a wedding and my family started taking over and all kinds of drama, so we eloped after being engaged for two months and being a couple for three months, and here we are 5 and a half years later, still going strong!
To make a long story short: I took what I got...LOL!!:flowerforyou:0 -
There's a shop here that advertises buying diamond, putting it in a plain solitaire setting for the proposal then bringing the chick back in to pick out her own setting and/or set. That's what he did.0
-
We were moron 18 year olds and just happened across a ring set we liked. Didn't even get a proposal, still admittedly bitterish about that. But it's been 8 years so it can't all be that bad.0
-
My first set hubby picked out, I had no idea he was even looking.
Had to change to a different set after having my daughter due to developing an allergy to yellow gold. I love my ring, we picked it together. It's a white gold wrap type set.0 -
My sweetie knew a few of my favorites. Some I had loved for years. He ended up picking one that was very representative of us and that also happened to be my top favorite. He knows my preferences almost better than I know my preferences.0
