Would you pay for MFP?

No, probably not. There are plenty of free apps out there.0
-
I wouldn't have started MFP if it costed me anything. Even if there was a free trial.
This.0 -
I'm the biggest cheapskate. I don't pay for anything I don't absolutely need. If MFP had charged initially, I never would have bothered to try it. And that would have been a shame, since it has been a positive, helpful addition to my lifestyle. This site already makes plenty of money off the ads. If I had to pay I would be sad to say goodbye, but I would do just that, rather than pay.0

I would pay for app being add free.
Also I would pay for some features, fe downloading my diary or being able to have more then 1 year history record on the website0 -
NO! Absolutely not. I only joined because they promised it was free.
I tried another site prior to this, and after a week they kept PUSHING me to upgrade...it was relentless. So I searched and reviews on MFP were very good.
I don't mind the ads for the few minutes it takes me to enter in my diary.
Thanks MFP for a nice service, but please don't charge. I can't afford it.0 -
This!!
I wouldn't have started MFP if it costed me anything. Even if there was a free trial.
Now? Maybe.. But only because I'm addicted to the site. Four months ago, forget it.0 -
and this!
nope!! I'd use another app that was free! ;-)0 -
I'll give them $5 to take away my strikes...
I'd pitch in on this one too!0 -
There are several other sites where you can log your calories for free. I happen to like this database best which is why I'm here but if they started charging I'd move to a free site.0
-
Nope. I would switch to a free site.0
-
NO WAY... :grumble: NOT ON YOUR LIFE...NOT A CHANCE....DUH! WHY DO YOU THINK 95% OF THE PEOPLE JOINED?????
BECAUSE ITS FREE!!!!!0 -
To the person who commented on the creepy ads (the quote didn't appear). This is not exclusive to MFP. It happens all over the internet. After searching for something or a product on one site, move to another and the same item pops up. It's part of how they keep it free.
I agree with you, it's very unsettling, but MFP isn't the culprit.0 -
It kinda sucks seeing this topic lol. Heck no I wouldn't pay for it... that would be ridiculous for me... Even with my huge! slip ups on eating sometimes I have very well understanding of what I'm eating and what I should be eating... I wouldn't allow myself to come to that obsession. Even if I was vastly obese I would just use a pen and paper.
I *appreciate* the convenience of this site though and I'm glad I can use it.0 -
Nope. I would go to a free site. One where I could put my pictures of me up. Even if there were a little cleavage peeking out. I could say f**k and d**k and sh** and cu*t and maybe even have a "wardrobe malfuntion", or at least enjoy other peoples.0
-
Yes I would. Even if it were an upgraded membership to remove ads, and maybe "members only" forums.
I'm a developer though, so I'm definitely biased against the "yay we have the Internet, everything is free now" mentality. I think it's ok to charge for things, especially if it's an upgrade to something that's offered for free.0 -
In the beginning, no I wouldn't have paid for it. I would've clicked that little red cross and found something else immediately.
Now, probably. I wouldn't pay a huge amount but I would be willing to pay something, because I'm well and truely addicted to this site. I don't just use it to track food/exercise, I think it is an awesome social network on it's own. The people I speak to, communicate with about training/food etc, I use this site far more than I do facebook! lol0 -
I don't think i would, but never say never.0
-
No....0
-
Not a chance. There are other free sites.0
-
Seriously I would of never joined if I had to pay. I'm addicted to MFP now and really enjoy being able to log as easy as it is every day! But, I'd find something else if I had to pay.0
-
I wouldn't pay. No one is technically giving any professional advice/tips, so that'd be silly.0
-
In my case, it is not a question of would I pay. I couldn't. No matter how cheap it was.0
-
If it got rid of ads and I could write curse words in the forums then *kitten* yeah, I would. ;-)0
-
If I had to pay, I wouldn't use it, because then I'd just switch to Weight Watchers. This was the whole point of why I liked this site.0
-
No..too many other options available for free.
BTW, you can get rid of the ads by installing AdBlock on your Firefox or Chrome browser. I haven't seen an ad in years, here or any other site.

Agree with "tech". I'd pay if we could have a less moderated, more open forum/site!0

I tracked my eating using an excel spreadsheet and a scale for a year and that worked.
This site IS a lot more convenient way to do the same thing. I'm really impressed with the layout, the reporting, the ease of use, the iPhone app. It makes the process a lot easier, even fun.
But the question is: "How much more valuable is this site compared to the alternatives?"
For a low annual fee ($25-$60) I might stay here. But I am also certain that for a low annual fee, I will take a close look at the other free alternatives out there and bail if I find something comparable.
It's tricky because the database is "crowdsourced" (entered by users) and you need a bunch of them around over time to keep it from going stale. If 85% of the users depart, that's going to hurt. Then you have a paywall scaring off every new user.
Maybe:
Free for 3 months
$10/year after 3 months
$25/year for no ads
$50 prepaid for $0.15/day usage-based, never expires
But you can't go there until there is a strong perception that this site is THE site to be on. You have to be the "iPhone" of weight-loss sites in the user's minds. Crack the economics of creating that perception and you're in.
I'm sure I'm not giving the site owners any new ideas.0 -
If this site wasn't free I would have never started it. I wouldn't have started as a free trial either. Now that i'm hooked I wouldn't pay a monthly fee or anything but I'd pay like $5 to use it forever. I'm just not a person who likes to pay for things like this month to month if I don't need to.0
-
hell to the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. besides, there are plenty of ads surrounding us right now!0
-
No. I'll just move on to another free site. I'm sure they're making a killling already with all the ads.0
