30day shred

Hi!

I have just done my first workout of "30 day shred"! wow! it feels amazing and is definitely a great workout! i am going to do it for 30 days and see what results i get as i have heard great things.

but i was wondering if there is anyone who has done the 30 day shred and what you put into MFP exercise? did you choose "circuit training general"? and if so that says 25 mins is 193 calories and according too MFP i need to burn 215 a day so what do i do?

any help and advice would be great! :)

just put in 215 manually in the little calorie window!
I finished day 5 today and its a looot easier then the first two days! I use 5lb ways
  • So do you think the 30 day shred exercise would be burning the 215 i have to?

oh sorry got that last part a little wrong..

how heavy are your weights? you could increase them! i started with 5lbs and every time i felt like im dying i changed to 3lbs. by day 4 i could do the entire level 1 with 5lbs! yes, that fast :)

if not you could do a longer warm up, say like 5more mins or do another workout after it (you tube), depends on what youd like to do!
  • I was going to ask this too. I am curious. I read some people use a heart monitor so you know heart rate and can calculate how many calories were burned by that.

I enter 20 minutes of Calisthenics, but if you have an HRM you could just manually add what it tells you.
  • When I did it I put in circuit training general, but now I have a heart rate monitor..will be your new best friend! Trust me!

I had asked this some time ago and was told to use circuit training to log it. When I asked that was the general consensus of what other were doing. It is a great workout.

I am on day2 - level 1, glad to hear that by day 5 it gets easier. I use circuit training on MFP. Its gonna be about right. Have used their other tracker amounts and dont seem to have suffered from it.
  • Thank you for all your replies!

i think i am going to do another form of cardio exercise before it. (if i do it after i will not want too after the 30day shred workout! haha)
Tonight- day 2 of the 30 day shred for me i am going too do some zumba before it that should ge tmy calories up!

everyone that has just started this 30day shred lets keep this chat going and compare it all, it owuldbe goos to have support fromt others that are doing it at the same time! :)
    Thank you!
  • Day 2 and it is kicking my butt...( are we allowed to say azz?). I considered myself a very physically strong person having bench pressed 100lbs less than a month ago, but give me 5 pound weights and 30 seconds of shoulder presses and I am dyiiiiiing! Seriously, I have met my match! I am looking forward to building more stamina *wipes brow*

I wear a HRM when I do the 30 Day Shred. If I plug it into MFP,using circuit training, general, it gives me WAY more than my heart rate monitor. I just started level 2 today. I have been burning 135-150 calories.

First time I did it, I couldn't believe that is all I burned, but the amount burned has been pretty consistent. Today with starting Level 2 was the first time I hit 150. It sure felt like I should have burned more than that.

Honestly I just started by putting in 25 min of general circuit training. That being said, I've actually lost more weight than MFP says I should have, so i'm guessing it's actually more, depending on how tough you are already/how heavy you are.

I'm on day 12 today. I can do full-on pushups and deep lunges, so I thought I was ready... OOF!! Boy am I having a hard time with this level! ! Can't wait til level 3 tho!
  • Yeah ive put in Circuit training, general and i dont know if the calories it says i burnt are too many than i actually did i also did 20 minutes of zumba tonight. It is day two on the 30 day shred and man my muscles are soooooreeee! haha it feel sooo good to do it and you definitely feel like you have had a workout!

i just worry that im thinking ive burnt calories than i have cos of what MFP says :S
  • Thank you i think i will just stick too putting in circuit training general and doing other exercise as well thanks :)
  • I recently finished all 30 days of the 30DS. I entered it as circuit training-general, but used a HRM for my calories burned. When I started I was 13 pounds heavy then I am now and was out of shape. I would burn around 300 calories during the first week and a half. As I lost weight and got into better shape, I was burning about 250. It would be a little bit higher when I started the new levels. Even though I didn't use it, 30DS is in the database for exercise and I believe it will give you higher calories.

Also, don't know if you plan on doing 30DS for 30 days straight?! But I found taking a break once or twice a week from the workout was good for me. My muscles needed the rest and after a day a rest I felt like I could push harder on the workout.

It is a great workout, I lost 12 pounds during the time I was doing 30DS (which took me about 35 days with breaks). Good luck
  • Do you have a heart rate monitor? that is the best way to track what you are doing.
  • Starting day 8 tomorrow, I took my last two days off from it because I was just getting sore and tired from working out so much. I worked out about an hour and a half for the last 11 days. I can't wait to finish my 10 days this week.

I just talked to my best friend about this and she uses a HRM for 30 DS and is 257lbs and uses 5lbs weights. SHE burns 230 cals during it, so don't let MFP lead you to believe you are burning close to 200 unless you weigh close to her weight.
  • I dont have a HRM no,, i cant really afford one at the moment all the ones ive seen are expensive, i know this would be the best way too see how accurate it is. i didnt realise 30ds was in the system i will have a look for that. do you think that is more accurate than circuit training.

Its not too much of a problem as if i do the 30 day shred with the other cardio i do then i am going over my cexercise calorie goal on MFP anyway it would just be nice if it was accurate :)
  • i only weigh 58kg
  • Ok, I may have lied (not on purpose) but I just did a search for 30DS and I didn't find it. I thought it was in there because my sister logs it for her exercise, but maybe she just added it as an exercise for her database, since she uses a HRM. I was in a group on MFP that was doing 30DS together and it looked like people were averaging between 200-300 for 30DS. If you aren't in great shape, I would say you are closer to the 300. But if you are in pretty good shape, maybe 200 is right. Also, I logged 30DS as 25 (which it is with the warmup and cool down), that might give you more calories.

I also did additional cardio (jogging or ellptical) with the 30DS, so I would meet my personal goal of 40 min of cardio 5 times a week.
  • Yeah thanks :)
I did try too find it but couldnt haha ......so im just gonna stick with circuit training general and do my extra 30 mins of cardio a day which gives me close to my goal for the day so then i know with the 30 day shred added on ill be meeting or going over my calorie exercise goal :)

i wil maybe try and invest in a hrm in the future but cant right now :S

    Hi :)
I used circuit training before I got a HRM. I burn around 215 calories on the 30ds level 3 if that helps?

If you're burning 193 calories you could always go for a 15 min walk to boost calories burnt to 215??

Hope you enjoy the 30 ds as much as me! No idea what i'll do once I've finished it!

Hi, I did day 3 level 1 yesterday and really felt as tho I couldnt put the effort into it that I needed to so am having a rest day today fom it. Am expecting my poisture when exercising will start to get better after a few more days as well, that's when I know the work outs will truly begin.

Have looked at some of the before and after pics on aother post and they are truly motivational.

    Good luck everyone.

I just started this video back up today. I have been using it off and on for over a year but never do 30 days straight. Does anyone know if you should do 30 days in a row? That was what I thought she was saying in the video, but I have also been told that you should let your body rest.

Hi tinjc, my impression is you do what you can. Some have said that 4-5 days with a rest in between, others have gone all the way through. I managed 3 days, 1 rest day and am about to start again. Then maybe do 10 days at each level. I don't think there is a wrong way to do.

    Question folks.......

This may make me sound like a right bozo but when you talk about 5lb weights are you talking 5lbs in each hand or would that make it 10lb?

    Cheers
  • Yeah im on day 4 today as well! see how i go tonight after work!
i feel like it is getting a bit easy now too kepp going i find the jumping rope the hardest!

annnnnd i am aiming for 5 days on 1 day off and then every ten days change the level

my hand weights are 2kgs together thats just under 5lbs

    :D
  • Jillian actually has her own weight loss tracking app, it has all her dvds in the exercise tracking section so I use it litteraly just to track my calories from her workouts and then enter something with the same calories! Such great workouts! I reccomend killer buns and thighs if you dont mind not being able to walk the next day!
