I just realized something- how many extra calories a day am I ingesting in lip gloss/chap stick?
According to a 2002 Glamour magazine article, women inadvertently consume ~4lbs of lipstick in a lifetime!!!!
I don't wear much actual lipstick, but I use a lot of chap stick- primarily Burt's Bees or Yes to Carrots brands, which are made of Coconut oil and Beeswax. Beeswax, as far as I know is indigestible, but coconut oil is 9cal/g saturated fat!!!
Have I been sabotaging my diet efforts in the quest for kissable lips?

If you are seriously worried about calories in lipstick and chap stick then you have crossed over into an unhealthy obsession.20
-
my first thought was "WHAT?" but i think you are serious....so this is my response....unless you are actually putting it in your mouth and swallowing it...i think you should not worry about chapstick calories. that would be like worrying about ice in your water for logging hydration consumption. put the chapstick on, make your lips look good and go work out!! :flowerforyou:0

This explains EVERYTHING.3

I would assume...just walking to the mirror and lifting your hand to your lips would burn the calories involved! I wear it everyday and will not stress about those calories.1

and btw....cool shoes!0

This is why we are all overweight! Excess chapstick and lipstick! I solved the billion dollar question!5 -
i heard if you drive by mcdonalds or burger king and the smell of the food is in the air you have to add those calories to your daily count6
-
Never thought about it but your right. I go through a tube a week from bath & body.4

According to my calculations, if you ate the entire stick of lip balm, and if it was made entirely of coconut oil, you'd have to work off a whopping 4 calories. (The stick sitting on my desk says that it contains .15 ounces.)
Oh wait! Pesky decimal! You'd have to work off 39 calories.6 -

This explains my weight gain. I have been wearing lipstick since I've been two.5

I think your biggest danger would be from the Burt's Bees chapstick. It's made form beeswax which will still have traces of honey in it. Honey being sugar will cause an insulin spike and cause your body to hold onto its fat. Even though the quantity is low it is being introduced into your system transdermally so it's an instant shot of sugar to your bloodstream rather than a slower absorption through your digestive tract.5

Gaah!!! Jeez, I hope that's not true! But it does seem logical....1 -
How many calories are burned through kissing? I bet it balances out.1

Make sure you do not apply any after 9pm at night - it will turn immediately into fat and make your muscles drop off!5 -

No, I'm pretty sure it's true. I read some studies that proved it I just can't find them right now. They were pee reviewed.0 -

The studies I read seemed to indicate that it would store the fats inside your muscle fibers where they would be inaccessible for use as fuel.1 -

OK, Now I can tell you're just making fun of me. That's not nice. I'm really struggling to make all the right choices on this journey, and I don't need negative nancies teasing me for trying to think outside the box!1
