What do you replace chips with?

Replace them with will power. Seriously, you're not going to win this game in the long run if you can't exercise control over your desire to eat.
While I appreciate your *incredibly* helpful response, please look down at my ticker. I am not new to this. I have exercised amazing willpower, to lose 160 lbs, I had to, and while I am eating far fewer of them, I would like to cut them out completely for something that would be more healthful. As I have done for sweets, and pasta, and a great many other things that I have learned to live without. It is a process. One that I know, very well. I have been doing this, and doing it well, might I add. Even in moderation, I have decided that I do not want them in my diet anymore, but, I would like to have a good substitute for something salty in the evenings while watching a movie with my family that will be eating (and buying their own) chips anyway. I do not feel it irrational for me to ask the opinions of others for a good alternative.0 -
thinly sliced ENGLISH (not regular) cucumbers. I'm a chip fanatic but I adore English cukes, plus you can have so much more yummy dip since they have like, next to no calories. they're less bitter with a thinner skin than regular cucumbers.0

I take 1 pita bread, cut it into 8, separate the bread so I have double the amount. Grab a little EVOO and some seasoning and brush it on the pita bits then I bake them in the oven. One pita bread makes quite a big bunch of chips. They are great with hummus too. Or I make chips with sliced thin potato/sweet potato also in the oven.
I find that a 'bag of chips' just isn't satisfying for me, always want more so I don't really eat them these days.0 -
I hear those sun chips are more healthier and the baked ones I'm gonna try those instead of the reg ones. I'm also hearing boxes of raisins are only 60 cals.0

"Try light pringles made with Olestra.. 70 cal's for 14 chips or try cutting back on the amount you eat of your fav chips.. moderation"
mmmm just what i always wanted, Olestra, with side effects like loose stools and abdominal cramping. Thanks for the tip. Not.0 -
Kellogg's special K sea salt cracker chips - 30 chips is 110 calories
Salted peanuts or salted almonds, pumpkin seeds
Baked Lays potato chips - snack size bag is 130 cals0 -
Tacos.
^THIS.
also, bacon would be an acceptable answer.0 -
I eat sweet peppers. The small ones that come in red, yellow and orange. Not to be confused with bell peppers, although, that would work for me too. I love the crunch and they totally satisfy me as a sandwich side.
Peppers all the time! I love them and have no real desire to eat chips when I munch on peppers instead. Though I usually go for the bell peppers.
Also, Crunchmaster crackers are good. They're about 140 calories for 15 crackers. I found mine at Kroger for around $3.0 -

ha ha, ya and they also say could cause "anal leakage" on some of the olestra packages. sounds fun!0 -
Kale chips! You can find them at health food stores, or you can make your own in the oven, very easy!0

make your own zuccini chips, mmmmmm. or roast some chick peas, spice them up, those are tasty. Also, popcorn (not loaded with butter) is not too terrible for you. Pistachios! Salty and fatty tasting, just like chips.0

There are some homemade recipes out there (I haven't tried to make them myself yet, but the plan is to try to make them soon):
Collard Chips (recipe from wine club: a bag of collard greens, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1 tsp sea salt)
Coconut Sesame Baked Brown Rice Chips (recipe from nutritionist: 1 package of brown rice tortillas - Whole Foods & TJ's has them- and I just picked a bag up this weekend & hope to make these on Thursday, coconut oil, sesame seeds. Preheat oven to 350, spread oil on both sides of tortillas, pat sesame seeds into them so they stick, cut them up and bake them for about 6 - 7 minutes).0 -
If you have a Trader Joe's, I like their Snap Pea Crisps, they are sometimes labeled as Inner Peas; 150 calories for a serving. Kale chips are an amazing healthy substitute as well!
I wanna steal your avi so hard. *dreamy stares*
Learn to pop your own corn.0 -
chips - just fewer of them
generally this, I'll just have a serving instead of half the bag! Also, I do occasionally get the baked versions cuz I find them tasty, especially baked cheetos.0 -
Kale chips or roasted seaweed. Both salty and greasy, and if you make your own kale chips you can flavor them with what you want. I like Cajun style!0
-
i've heard Kale chips (homemade) are easy and delish.0

You should try Special K cracker chips! I also love tortilla chips and salsa so I buy the cheddar flavour cracker chips and dip them in salsa, they're awesome.0
-
Not sure if someone already mentioned it, but KALE!!!!!!!!!!! 4 cups for Kale is LESS THAN HALF the calories of FIFTEEN chips!! Just spread 4 cups on a baking sheet spray with some olive oil spray (like PAM), sprinkle some spices, (sal/pepper/cayenne, whatever) and back for like 6-9 minutes..it comes out CRISPY JUST LIKE CHIPS! I was skeptical myself, but its true! IT WORKS!!0

baked doritos! i love them.0

i crave salty/savory/crunchy. salt and vinegar kettle cooked chips are MY FAV.
although spicy things will tend to be very high in sodium, they help me from reaching for the chip bag. i like snacking on some pickled pepperoncini sometimes. and i absolutely LOVE cucumber/onion salad. all the tang, none of the calories or sodium. but one thing i also really really like is edamame sauteed in a tablespoon of spicy korean sauce. i like Annie Chung's. and though its not a crunchy option, a piece of string cheese sometimes hits the spot, with it having fat and protein it has good satiety. hummus and celery stalks are great too.0 -
I like celery with hummus -- it is salty and gives me that crispy crunch that I love about tortilla and potato chips. I also love stovetop homemade popcorn with baked kale, taco seasoning, salt and nutritional yeast sprinkled on top! Tastes a little like Doritos ;-)0
