Maybe you should mix the breast milk and cow milk while you transition over. Then you wouldn't need to use protein powder. It's the system I used to decrease my sugar intake through beverages.

I honestly think this is a question for a health professional due to risk of disease. You don't know if the breast milk your buying online has been tested for any communicable diseases. Be safe!

There's an ice cream parlour in London selling breast milk ice cream. They were banned from selling it after 'health and safety fears' but it was reinstated after being proven to be safe. And why wouldn't it be, it doesn't harm babies.

My best friend JUST had a baby. She is clean. For a price, I can get her to bottle up and ship you some. See, problem solved.

I saw on a bravo TV show that there is a service in NYC for surrogate breast milk and you can get it in different "flavors" and micronutrient profiled depending on the woman's diet, etc. You can get a sampler menu to try the various flavors to see what appeals to you.

    Srs.

^ I didn't hear of this one, but also in NYC there was a couple a while back making milk based foods with the wife's breast milk and there was somewhat of a legal issue about whether they could sell the goods. Interesting stuff.

You need to know for a fact that the person giving the milk is disease free. Breast milk is like drinking raw cow milk, it comes with risks. Babies likely have whatever their mom's have anyway and the antibodies help fight it but you don't have the same issues the mom does and you are opening yourself up to them since the milk is not pasturized.

I wonder if breast milk can be pasteurized? Can you make breast milk cheese? Butter? Cottage cheese? Cream?

Hmmm..things I've never thought about until now....

So should I see if my mom can still do it?

Websites like OnlyTheBreast.com have donors with medical evaluations and whatnot to ensure you're getting clean milk.

    Just hire a wet nurse.

Seconded, but make sure she eats clean so that she doesn't pass all of her toxins to you.

I don't know if you guys have seen the cat milking scene from Meet the Parents, but I think this could also be a reasonable substitute.

If you are disappointed with a shipment you've received, please inbox me. I will send this woman 100%, given daily to a 3 week old, breast milk.

It's not just a matter of whether or not the lactating mother is drug free and healthy, although those are points to consider. It's also about whether the milk was safely stored / refrigerated / frozen, etc. It doesn't hurt babies because most babies are nursing right from the tap or drinking pumped milk that has been (hopefully) properly stored.

Breastmilk is more stable than cow's milk and when freshly expressed can actually sit at room temperature for several hours, but then it needs to be refrigerated. It can be safely refrigerated for several days, but after that must be frozen. It is good frozen for about 6 months, longer if in a deep freeze.

The problem with buying human milk online is that unless you feel the source is VERY trustworthy, you don't know how they have stored the milk.

I know this is a joke, but I have to say that when I was nursing I was rather productive (so much so that I donated over 300 ounces to the national milk bank that they use to supply breast milk to hospitals and such) as well as freeze enough to continue to provide my son with only breast milk for 2 – 3 months after I stopped nursing. It was suggested to me that instead of donating the milk I pay for the blood work out of pocket necessary to provide breast milk to the banks and sell my breast milk. Because I was dairy and gluten free it would apparently have sold for a premium of about $4 per ounce. So, I basically donated $1200 worth of the good stuff over a 6 – 9 month period of time.

Again, I'm telling you how to score some disease free, high quality breast milk.
