Regular customers at work began asking if I was new. (I had been working there for 10 years lol)0

Whenever I lose weight ...(this will be my third and hopefully final time I need to do this unless I have one more kid of course which then it's only a little bit when that happens), ...people act a little stand offish. My husband is some kind of psychic because he is already trying to prepare me for the jealousy, ostracizing he predicts I will endure. Unfortunately, I already know what that feels like, but he thinks he is preparing me for something I don't know anything about. He's sweet, and it's not so bad. It only comes from people who didn't know me prior to the loss, family who weren't my biggest fans anyway but had me where they wanted me, or friends who when they act like that weren't really your friends anyway right?
So he's worrying and I'm just thinking it might go better for me this time because being a little older I'm likely to show my age on my face more and my weight loss will be easier to take maybe. Whenever someone takes a jab at me or never compliments me but does to others he says I present too sharp of an image an project too much strength and leave no room for compliments or anything, and so does my director. She says I might be intimidating to some people (in person). So I guess it's okay if people can only warm up to me when I'm heavy and shy away when I'm thin, apparently I am causing it in some way. It's okay. Everyone doesn't have to love me, but my kids do and I have to be alive and healthy for them to do so.0 -
I have received many positive comments. It has become almost embarrassing at times. You look younger, less tired, so much healthier etc. I don't mind those (because I know the extra weight made me look older and tired and unhealthy) but I'm not terribly comfortable being in the spotlight either.
The ones that bother me are the "be careful, you don't want to lose too much weight", "you're wasting away" or "you're getting so skinny". I am not skinny. I'm still 50+ lbs overweight and by the BMI chart still obese. They just don't know me any other way. They don't know the person who's been hiding under all the fat. They've only known "fat me" I had lost a significant amount of weight in the past and one of my family members was very concerned about my health, which by the way had NEVER been better. Funny that she was never concerned when I was overweight about my risk of obesity related diseases.
The one I HATE most is "Look at you! I'm so jealous!" this implies that it's been easy or has just "happened" to me. Don't be jealous, it's been hard work and a huge commitment. Eating healthier and moving, moving, moving all the time. I'm not doing anything they can't do so the jealous comment really bugs me.
I want to say "don't be jealous. You can experience your own success. All you have to do is clean up your diet, journal everything you eat - everyday and exercise - A LOT! You just have to want it badly enough."
There are no magic pills, no secrets here. Diet and exercise...we've always known this but people don't want to hear that.
Maybe they are jealous of your will power and determination. That's what I would mean if I said that....not that you didn't deserve or earn it. Clearly you have, no one can take that from you.0 -
someone asked me if i had gotten aids0

Last week, at 59lbs lost in 7 months, two different people asked if I had gotten new glasses because "you look different."0

I was telling my sister in law about my fitness pal and she innocently asked "Have you lost any weight?". I had already lost like 30lbs! Felt a little deflated that she couldn't see any difference
yeah when my friend saw that I seemed a little down she asked what's wrong and when i told her i went gym shopping, met some trainers, and weighed myself and it was more that what I'd been thinking she (unsolicited) started guessing, and guessed about 50 lbs MORE than what I actually weigh, and I was bummed about THAT weight being higher than I thought. That was a few days ago, and I have an appointment to cry about it, but haven't found the time to even call myself to book it.0 -
From a trainer at my gym: "You were way hotter before you lost weight".
I *wish* I'd said "You were way hotter before you started talking!" but in real life I just looked shocked and said "Really?!"
Nothing scares me more then hearing that out of someone's mouth -.-0 -
lmao One of my friends told me my forehead was getting bigger....0

LOL> I had a conference with my daughter's teacher today and she responded "you don't need to lose any more weight, you're emaciated"... Now, realize this... I am 225 lbs ... I am 6'3". I have a BMI of 28+ AND my body fat percentage is roughly 19-20%... I am FAR from making it to "prisoner of war" status... LOL>>> Gotta love it.0

From a trainer at my gym: "You were way hotter before you lost weight".
This. I find the "before" pictures more attractive in the majority of cases. I'm not a chubby chaser, I just think a female face with slightly softer lines is prettier.
Um...thanks for the insight.0 -
"You could do porn."
I am rarely speechless, but that day, I was.
Priceless! Had me laughing out loud!0 -
Hi everyone, thank you all for posting. I woke this morning and found all these posts, just been sat in bed with my partner reading through them.
A lovely, sometimes hilarious start to s cold UK day.

I once made a joke (to my wife while at a family event) that I'd lost so much weight that I could take off my jeans without unbuttoning them. Apparently my Mother overheard this and said, "Nu-uh! I want to see you do that!"
Cue awkward silence.
At least it was your MOTHER and not your Mother-in-Law that said that.
Mothers.. ..
Mine is classic.
Months before I started the loss she shouted loudly, in public, at the poolside where we were staying for the weekend. "you know you've got lovely legs and bum, pity about your tits and tum!"
Get me out of there!0 -
I also had a cousin say "how are you losing so much weight? It's crack right?" (CLEARLY joking...)
I decided that if I ever get asked how I lost weight, I was going to say it was because "masturbating burns a lot of calories." Just because I've had people ask me that before and they got upset when I said eating better and exercising.
THIS IS IT!
My new throw away response!
Hilarious!0 -
My favorite and latest are when they pull me aside to make sure I'm not terminally ill or very sick.
Yes!!! I've had people at work ask me if I have cancer. (And I hadn't even lost weight - I had come in on the weekend and was wearing shorts and a tanktop instead of my normal clothing and they could see my "scrawny" arms and legs.)0 -
These have been so much fun to read! I can't wait to lose enough weight to actually start getting some comments.0

"You're wasting away!"
Um... seriously? I'm still carrying the equivalent of a medium sized child in surplus tonnage.
literally laughed at "surplus tonnage"
totally understand though - and now i've just realised that my "surplus tonnage" is the equivalent of both my children - hmm....
thanks LOL0 -
Not many people have actually noticed any difference in my weight- but my mum tells me I look ill quite often. Which is due to the fact that I actually have facial definition now.0

I was told by a friend that " I look like a real person now"
WTF did I look like an oompa loompa before?
Ive only lost 10lbs I wonder what he would of thought of me if I was heavier.0
