I find strength training and cardio need a little distance. Today I did some squats! 120lbs x 15 x 6. Stairs are now my natural enemy!0

Round 3, day 17
Think I tried to kill myself, but I didn't succeed.
3 flights of stairs (finally, the knee cooperated!) carrying my 10 - 12 pound pack
50 mins on the weights - anyone have suggestions for the next step up from the abductor/adductor leg machine? I've almost topped out the weight stack on this one.
50 mins swimming - 400 m each freestyle and back stroke, 100 m butterfly, 550 m breast stroke (Cut things a little short due to the weights right before, and the OTHER knee is now talking. Go figure!)
@ tazmac
Nice start for your 4th round! Keep putting those feet one in front of the other!
@ etaylor
You are doing great! Keep it going strong!
@ jezy
Nice variety! Keep it up!
@ Cherry
Another welcome! Look forward to seeing your check ins and progress!
@ bjune
Great solidarity! It's fun watching your rotation, starting to get some ideas for my own routine shake ups.0 -
@ kcaffee1: Wow! You've had a great day!
Ok this last week has not been great so I'm starting again.
Round 1, Day 1:
Elliptical training and a circuit class. I also set an alarm on my computer to remind me to get up from my desk every 30 mins. It feels great to get back into moving0 -
Round 2 day 20 -- did a 46 min walk at 3.0 mph. Was going to try getting back to C25K, but it just wasn't happening. I think I need to get up and try running in the morning when my legs are fresh. Seem my morning runs go much better than the evening ones.0
-
Day 14(6/18) Step Class. Another great class. 3 more friends joined us for the first time and loved it. After it was over of course.LOL
Everything is sore from my waist down. But it was a terrific burn.
Yep, as several have noticed, i like variety in my workouts. And I've been doing mostly classes.
Keep it going everyone!0 -
day 10 (woo whoo, double digits!) 6/19 - nike trainer & running (2.5 hilly outdoor trail)0

Round 3, day 17
Yesterday was cut short - got some more weed eating done. But, while I was weeding the flower bed again, found a big wasp nest. Red wasps and I don't get along, and before I could get the wasp spray on them, one found me.
30 mins weed eating
60 mins (approximate) weeding
@ tazmac
Nice days 2 and 3! Keep it going!
@ Jezzy
Great job! You're half way there, and doing great! Does this make the first or second weekend you've stayed active despite the old habits? Keep it going, you're doing great!
@ bjune
Classes count! They keep you moving, and give you a little extra push. Keep it up!
@ etaylor
Great walk! I wouldn't dream of trying to run at any time. But, that's me. Not coordinated enough - which is why I swim. ::Grins:: You are doing great!
@ Lilloise
Great day 1 restart. You'll make it!0 -
day 11 (over half way!) 9/20 = NIke trainer (got up at 5am to do this!) If I get cut from 2nd work I am going to try to squeeze in an evening run too!
Hope y'all have a fun, festive & active weekend!! :drinker:0 -
Round 2 day 21 -- 2nd round over. did 20 min circuit training and then 35 on the bike. Came home and my neighbors were cutting down the bushes in front of their house. So I grabbed my clippers and a saw and spent the next 45 mins helping them. So tired.0

I love your swimming, mostly because I am jealous. Would love to be able to swim. I know I could do it, but my fear of drowning and not being able to swim well stops me (and I let it) Need to conquer my demons.0 -
Day 15(6/19): 1/2 mile jog & Get Results Class - High intensity cardio. Combines step, kickboxing, and whatever else my crazy instructor thinks of. I think I burned a good 800 calories. Gota get that HRM. My Birthday is next week, so perhaps I'll treat myself.
Same instructor as step the previous day. Can't believe I did his class back-to-back. I was joining a friend who said she would go if I went. Well she didn't get a ride, but I did it anyway.0 -
@ Jezy
Wonderful day! I've seen several posts where people say that morning is the only time (or most likely time to guarantee) their workouts. You are doing wonderful! Keep up the excellent work!
@ etaylor
What a wonderfully strong end to your second round! Look forward to seeing you back for round 3.
@ bjune
Sounds like a fun class. If you want, I can post a site that has a good reputation for calorie burns for running. I found it because my HRM is a watch only, no strap, and it kept getting screwy readings when I tried to do any zumba activities. I was looking for something that would give a close-to-accurate burn, and this site was the one most commonly referred to. It has calculators for running and swimming as well, which is where I think you may find it useful. (I've had the swimming side verified, and it's close, but not as accurate as the zumba.)
Round 3, day 18
Weights today - about 45 minutes of picking up the heavy stuff and putting it back down. the other 10 minutes or so were accessory calisthenics. Found a set of muscles I haven't been working as hard as I should have - tummy is a bit sore right now.
The HRM pedometer reports a 29 minute walk over a mile distance. (Mostly walking between class/gym/car/movie theater, so I wasn't pushing hard on that.)
And a little light cleaning tossed in. Wasn't planning on that, but when I went to clean up a small mess, wound up cleaning the whole room once I'd started. ::Grins:: Talk about a change - it used to be I'd have just cleaned up the mess, and left the rest for "tomorrow". But, that "tomorrow" wouldn't get here unless mom screamed at me to clean my room. So, the habit of moving has definitely sunk it's roots in nice and deep! Now to keep it growing!0 -
Round 1 Day 2 (yesterday): 45 mins personal training session and 45 general gym work (10 mins on treadmill + strength training)
Round 1 Day 3: 2 x yoga classes. Sooo out of practice!!0 -
Hopefully this weekend goes as follows!?!?
Day 12, 9/21 = Walky walky walky...plan is to get a few miles in this evening
Day 13, 9/22 = Morning run or bike ride & nike trainer on the xbox
Day 14, 9/23 = have to work :frown: but going to attemp to get at least 3 miles on the elliptical in first!
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!! :drinker: Stay active & enjoy!0 -
Round 3 day 1 -- legs still saying "no" to running. So, I walked for an hour and did 3.45 miles. Went to bed early.0
-
@ Lilloise
How are you liking your yoga classes? I've heard that is a great complement to lifting, but I haven't gotten the nerve up to actually venture into any of the free classes at school. Still on the fence about the yoga, and gathering other's opinions about it first.
@jezy
Looks like you've got a great weekend planned! Looks like it's going/was a fun weekend for you.
@ etaylor
Great start to your new round! Since I don't run, all I can think of about your walking/running is that it may be as beneficial as lifting/resting days. One day on, one day off?
Keep it moving ladies!
Round 3, day 19
Flat out rest day. I don't really remember waking up until much to late to think of doing anything, and reveling in the luxury of not going any where.
Round 3, day 20
Weeding - finally finished the 10 (15) food flower bed I've been working on for the last 3 weeks. Only problem is now I get to start over at the beginning to catch the stragglers that have started growing up since I worked the other areas before I can start planting the new stuff.0 -
Great work on your challenges everyone!! Thanks for sharing/posting!
@kcaffee - thanks for keeping up the "cheerleading" ... I know I appreciate it!

Round 4 - Day 4 - 21 June 2013
Treadmill (TM) today of 45 min. 3.7 pace with incline for 35 minutes out of 45.
Add approx. 30 min for walking later in the day.

Tough week for me this past week with health issues.... and therefore I did not add to my fitness challenge over the weekend.... I needed the break.
Hopefully I'll be back in the saddle tomorrow!

Moving is part of your life, but anyone can burn out on a challenge. ::Grins:: Just being told I HAVE to do something is usually enough to get my back up and I'll not - just from spite. Baaaaad habit of mine, so I have figured out how to work around it. Usually by taking a step or two back before re-entering the fray. You are doing great, so keep those feet moving!
Round 3 completed with a whopper of a day!
1 hour weed eating with the electric weed eater
1 hour immediately followed of weed eating with the GAS weed eater (Yes, we got the beast started, and I worked with it until I ran the string down enough it got slung out, and I had to thread in a new string.... then it wouldn't restart for me. Typical beast!)
1 hour of swimming my medley sets - 400 m each back stroke, breast stroke, free style, but only got in 325 m of butterfly - the arms gave out on me.
1 hour of endurance work - ANOTHER 400 m of breast stroke and free style, but only 200 m back stroke - had some kids get in with some type of lotion on, and it started to lock down my lungs, so I fled for my life. (Literally. I'm scent sensitive, and I get kind of grouchy when I can't breathe. While blue is a usually a GOOD color for me, that blue is one I'd rather not wear.)
I think I kind of over did it. My arms are already yelling, and I'm starting on the Rx strength Alieve already. Oops!0 -
Round 3 day 2 -- walked to the Civic Auditorium to watch "The Music Man". Then walked home. Did 2.6 miles.
Round 3 day 3 -- mowed and edged the lawn. Finally planted my tomatoe and pepper in their pots.
Round 3 day 4 -- was lazy today. Did a short 1.6 mile walk. I was lazy and ate like crap this weekend. Next week will be better.0 -
@kcaffee1: Loving the yoga!! It's great for flexibility and strength. Does your gym offer general yoga or is it a specific type of yoga? If you're after something to stretch you out or for relaxation check out Hatha yoga. Personally, my favourite is power vinyasa yoga: it potentially burns more calories than a run and you feel soooo refreshed afterwards. It's sometimes done in a heated room so you definitely sweat a lot. Absolutely love it though. You leave feeling sooo energised!
And on that note...
Round1 Day 5: 60 mins power vinyasa yoga!!
(Day 4 was a rest day after 3 days of doing 2 workouts/day)0 -
And Round 1 Day 6: 60 mins Power yoga0
-
day 15, 6/24 = nike trainer on xbox & after work bike ride!!0

@ etaylor
You are doing great! Even your "rest" days you keep it moving. Wow! I bow to your dedication! Keep it up!
@ Lilloise
Great days 4, 5, and 6. Rest days are important, because they give you a chance to recuperate from the other days. Keep rocking this, because you look like you are having a blast! That's the best way to make it part of your life - have fun!
@ jezy
I love the xbox "games" too. Especially when I am too lazy to get out of the house. Let me do SOMETHING, and not actually have to get dressed, or drive into town. Also, wish I had my trike - just not in the budget right now. So, hearing abut your bike rides helps to whet my hunger, so that I stay on track in school so I can afford it once I'm through, and into the actual work force. Keep it going!
@ tazmac
Quite welcome. You've been handling this the longest, and deserve to slip out of the lime-light now and again. Keep it moving, and take a breather if you need it. You are still moving, which is why you set this "challenge" up in the first place. Doing great, so keep it up!
Round 4, day 1
A slight "over done" it day:
15 minutes on the elliptical - slow speed for warm up, because I knew what was coming
60 mins lifting weights - new routine, and MAN am I feeling it right now! Loved it though, because now I really DO have to hit the weights 3 times a week if I want to hit the entire body.
45 mins in the pool - 400 m each of back stroke, breast stroke, free style. (To day was arms on the weights, so I chickened out of the butterfly - shoulders and arms were already complaining. Been struggling recently with the rhythm of the stroke, and didn't want to try to drown myself AGAIN in front of the entire hosted swim team. ::Grins::)
HRM pedometer reported 35 mins of walking (car/class/misc buildings on campus/gym/car/shopping) for a total of 1.24 miles.0 -
@ kcaffee - CONGRATULATIONS on completion of Round 3!! - and what a banger of a day you put in to do so!!
@ etaylor - Great moving on your Days 2, 3 and 4 in your 3rd Round!!
@ Jessie - Great day 15! I bought a bike this summer ... yet to get on it! should do that this week!
@ Lilloise - Power yoga and vinyasa yoga - great work on your Days 5 & 6
Great recording Ladies!!
